Two-parameter bifurcations in a network of two neurons with multiple delays   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1
We consider a network of two coupled neurons with delayed feedback. We show that the connection topology of the network plays a fundamental role in classifying the rich dynamics and bifurcation phenomena. Regarding eigenvalues of the connection matrix as bifurcation parameters, we obtain codimension 1 bifurcations (including a fold bifurcation and a Hopf bifurcation) and codimension 2 bifurcations (including fold-Hopf bifurcations and Hopf-Hopf bifurcations). We also give concrete formulae for the normal form coefficients derived via the center manifold reduction that give detailed information about the bifurcation and stability of various bifurcated solutions. In particular, we obtain stable or unstable equilibria, periodic solutions, quasi-periodic solutions, and sphere-like surfaces of solutions. We also show how to evaluate critical normal form coefficients from the original system of delay-differential equations without computing the corresponding center manifolds.  相似文献

We investigate the behaviour of a neural network model consisting of two coupled oscillators with delays and inhibitory-to-inhibitory connections. We consider the absolute synchronization and show that the connection topology of the network plays a fundamental role in classifying the rich dynamics and bifurcation phenomena. Regarding eigenvalues of the connection matrix as bifurcation parameters, we obtain codimension one bifurcations (including fold bifurcation and Hopf bifurcation) and codimension two bifurcation (including fold-Hopf bifurcations and Hopf–Hopf bifurcations). Based on the normal form theory and center manifold reduction, we obtain detailed information about the bifurcation direction and stability of various bifurcated equilibria as well as periodic solutions with some kinds of spatio-temporal patterns. Numerical simulation is also given to support the obtained results.  相似文献

We consider the so-called delayed loss of stability phenomenon for singularly perturbed systems of differential equations in case that the associated autonomous system with a scalar parameter undergoes the Hopf bifurcation at the zero equilibrium point. It is assumed that the linearization of the associated system is independent of the parameter and the next terms in the expansion of the right-hand parts at zero are positive homogeneous of order α>1. Simple formulas are presented to estimate the asymptotic delay for the delayed loss of stability phenomenon. More precisely, we suggest sufficient conditions which ensure that zeros of a simple function ψ defined by the positive homogeneous nonlinear terms are the Hopf bifurcation points of the associated system, the sign of ψ at other points determines stability of the zero equilibrium, and the asymptotic delay equals the distance between the bifurcation point and a zero of some primitive of ψ.  相似文献

The response of an array of unidirectional coupled cells to local external noise is investigated. The cells are all tuned near the Hopf bifurcation point for calcium oscillation. It is found that when the first cell of the chain is perturbed by noise, stochastic calcium oscillation can be induced and propagates along the chain with considerable enhancement and a rather regular signal output is obtained at the end of the chain. It indicates that noise can result in the internal order, which is likely to show the rhythm of life in life systems. It is demonstrated that the occurrence of such a phenomenon depends on the coexistence of three factors: being close to the Hopf bifurcation point, unidirectional coupling and optimal coupling strength. It is important to note that this phenomenon is quite different from the noise enhanced signal propagation, where a larger coupling strength is always more favorable. Our result may find important applications in calcium signaling processes in vivo.  相似文献

In this paper we study the versal unfolding of a predator-prey system with ratio-dependent functional response near a degenerate equilibrium in order to obtain all possible phase portraits for its perturbations. We first construct the unfolding and prove its versality and degeneracy of codimension 2. Then we discuss all its possible bifurcations, including transcritical bifurcation, Hopf bifurcation, and heteroclinic bifurcation, give conditions of parameters for the appearance of closed orbits and heteroclinic loops, and describe the bifurcation curves. Phase portraits for all possible cases are presented.  相似文献

We investigate linear and weakly nonlinear properties of rotating convection in a sparsely packed Porous medium. We obtain the values of Takens–Bogdanov bifurcation points and co-dimension two bifurcation points by plotting graphs of neutral curves corresponding to stationary and oscillatory convection for different values of physical parameters relevant to rotating convection in a sparsely packed porous medium near a supercritical pitchfork bifurcation. We derive a nonlinear two-dimensional Landau–Ginzburg equation with real coefficients by using Newell–Whitehead method [16]. We investigate the effect of parameter values on the stability mode and show the occurrence of secondary instabilities viz., Eckhaus and Zigzag Instabilities. We study Nusselt number contribution at the onset of stationary convection. We derive two nonlinear one-dimensional coupled Landau–Ginzburg type equations with complex coefficients near the onset of oscillatory convection at a supercritical Hopf bifurcation and discuss the stability regions of standing and travelling waves.  相似文献

A stability formula is given for the singular Hopf bifurcation arising in singularly perturbed systems of the form , in this paper. The derivation of the formula is based on a reduction technique and on an existing stability formula for Hopf bifurcation.  相似文献

Resonance in Hopf bifurcation causes complicated bifurcation behaviors. To design with certain desired Hopf bifurcation characteristics in the resonance cases of discrete-time systems, a feedback control method is developed. The controller is designed with the aid of discrete-time washout filters. The control law is constructed according to the criticality and stability conditions of Hopf bifurcations as well as resonance constraints. The control gains associated with linear control terms insure the creation of a Hopf bifurcation in resonance cases and the control gains associated with nonlinear control terms determine the type and stability of bifurcated solutions. To derive the former, we propose the implicit criteria of eigenvalue assignment and transversality condition for creating the bifurcation in a desired parameter location. To derive the latter, the technique of the center manifold reduction, Iooss’s Hopf bifurcation theory and Wan’s Hopf bifurcation theory for resonance cases are employed. In numerical experiments, we show the Hopf circles and fixed points from the created Hopf bifurcations in the strong and weak resonance cases for a four-dimensional control system.  相似文献

As we know, for non-smooth planar systems there are foci of three different types, called focus-focus (FF), focus-parabolic (FP) and parabolic-parabolic (PP) type respectively. The Poincaré map with its analytical property and the problem of Hopf bifurcation have been studied in Coll et al. (2001) [3] and Filippov (1988) [6] for general systems and in Zou et al. (2006) [13] for piecewise linear systems. In this paper we also study the problem of Hopf bifurcation for non-smooth planar systems, obtaining new results. More precisely, we prove that one or two limit cycles can be produced from an elementary focus of the least order (order 1 for foci of FF or FP type and order 2 for foci of PP type) (Theorem 2.3), different from the case of smooth systems. For piecewise linear systems we prove that 2 limit cycles can appear near a focus of either FF, FP or PP type (Theorem 3.3).  相似文献

An SMIB model in the power systems, especially that concering the effects of hard limits onbifurcations, chaos and stability is studied.Parameter conditions for bifurcations and chaos in the absence ofhard limits are compared with those in the presence of hard limits. It has been proved that hard limits can affectsystem stability. We find that (1) hard limits can change unstable equilibrium into stable one;(2) hard limits canchange stability of limit cycles induced by Hopf bifurcation;(3) persistence of hard limits can stabilize divergenttrajectory to a stable equilibrium or limit cycle;(4) Hopf bifurcation occurs before SN bifurcation,so the systemcollapse can be controlled before Hopf bifurcation occurs. We also find that suitable limiting values of hard limitscan enlarge the feasibility region. These results are based on theoretical analysis and numerical simulations, such as condition for SNB and Hopf bifurcation, bifurcation diagram, trajectories,Lyapunov exponent,Floquetmultipliers, dimension of attractor and so on.  相似文献

A predator-prey system with disease in the prey is considered. Assume that the incidence rate is nonlinear, we analyse the boundedness of solutions and local stability of equilibria, by using bifurcation methods and techniques, we study Bogdanov-Takens bifurcation near a boundary equilibrium, and obtain a saddle-node bifurcation curve, a Hopf bifurcation curve and a homoclinic bifurcation curve. The Hopf bifurcation and generalized Hopf bifurcation near the positive equilibrium is analyzed, one or two limit cycles is also discussed.  相似文献

In this paper, a simplified congestion control model is considered to study the quasiperiodic motion induced by heterogenous time delays. Analysis for the stability of the equilibrium shows that the Hopf bifurcation curves with diverse frequencies may intersect at the so-called non-resonant double Hopf bifurcation point. Choosing the delays as the bifurcation parameters and employing the method of multiple scales, the amplitude–frequency equations or normal form equations are obtained theoretically. Based on these equations, the dynamics near the bifurcation point is classified. The values of the delays for which the quasiperiodic motion exists can be predicted with an acceptable accuracy. This result provides a reference in designing and optimizing the network systems.  相似文献

We consider the system of delay differential equations (DDE) representing the models containing two cells with time-delayed connections. We investigate global, local stability and the bifurcations of the trivial solution under some generic conditions on the Taylor coefficients of the DDE. Regarding eigenvalues of the connection matrix as bifurcation parameters, we obtain codimension one bifurcations (including pitchfork, transcritical and Hopf bifurcation) and Takens-Bogdanov bifurcation as a codimension two bifurcation. For application purposes, this is important since one can now identify the possible asymptotic dynamics of the DDE near the bifurcation points by computing quantities which depend explicitly on the Taylor coefficients of the original DDE. Finally, we show that the analytical results agree with numerical simulations.  相似文献

In this paper, Hopf bifurcation for a class of three-dimensional nonlinear dynamic systems is studied, a new algorithm of the formal series for the flow on center manifold is discussed, from this, a recursion formula for computation of the singular point quantities is obtained for the corresponding bifurcation equation, which is linear and then avoids complex integrating operations, therefore the calculation can be readily done with using computer symbol operation system such as Mathematica, and more the algebraic equivalence of the singular point quantities and corresponding focal values is proved, thus Hopf bifurcation can be considered easily. Finally an example is studied, by computing the singular point quantities and constructing a bifurcation function, the existence of 5 limit cycles bifurcated from the origin for the flow on center manifold is proved.  相似文献

In this paper, we improve and extend the approach of Wang and Xia for stability analysis of biological systems by making use of Gr?bner bases, (CAD-based) quantifier elimination, and discriminant varieties, as well as the stability criterion of Liénard and Chipart, and showing how to analyze the stability of Hopf bifurcation points. The stability and bifurcations for a class of self-assembling micelle systems with chemical sinks are analyzed in detail. We provide experimental results with comparisons for 15 biological models taken from the literature.   相似文献

We consider a reaction-diffusion system with general time-delayed growth rate and kernel functions. The existence and stability of the positive spatially nonhomogeneous steady-state solution are obtained. Moreover, taking minimal time delay τ as the bifurcation parameter, Hopf bifurcation near the steady-state solution is proved to occur at a critical value τ=τ0. Especially, the Hopf bifurcation is forward and the bifurcated periodic solutions are stable on the center manifold. The general results are applied to competitive and cooperative systems with weak or strong kernel function respectively.  相似文献

In this paper, we consider a ring of identical neurons with self-feedback and delays. Based on the normal form approach and the center manifold theory, we derive some formula to determine the direction of Hopf bifurcation and stability of the Hopf bifurcated synchronous periodic orbits, phase-locked oscillatory waves, standing waves, mirror-reflecting waves, and so on. In addition, under general conditions, such a network has a slowly oscillatory synchronous periodic solution which is completely characterized by a scalar delay differential equation. Despite the fact that the slowly oscillatory synchronous periodic solution of the scalar equation is stable, we show that the corresponding synchronized periodic solution is unstable if the number of the neurons is large or arbitrary even.  相似文献

In this paper, we investigate a reaction–diffusion–advection model with time delay effect. The stability/instability of the spatially nonhomogeneous positive steady state and the associated Hopf bifurcation are investigated when the given parameter of the model is near the principle eigenvalue of an elliptic operator. Our results imply that time delay can make the spatially nonhomogeneous positive steady state unstable for a reaction–diffusion–advection model, and the model can exhibit oscillatory pattern through Hopf bifurcation. The effect of advection on Hopf bifurcation values is also considered, and our results suggest that Hopf bifurcation is more likely to occur when the advection rate increases.  相似文献

For nonlinear dynamic systems near bifurcation, the basins of attraction of fixed points as well as the steady-state responses can change considerably with a small variation of the bifurcating parameter. This paper studies the effect of bifurcation on the semi-active optimal control problem with fixed final state by using the cell mapping method. A system parameter is taken as the control. The admissible control values considered encompass a bifurcation point of the system. Global changes in the optimal control solution for different targets are studied. Saddle node, supercritical pitchfork and subcritical Hopf bifurcations are considered in the examples. It has been found that the global topology of the optimal control solution is strongly dependent on the state of the target.  相似文献
