Differential inequalities and equations in Banach spaces with a cone

A class of second-order abstract dissipative evolution differential operators D$D$ with 0∈kerD$0\in kerD$ is shown for which the fact that a non-zero t?u(t)$t?u\left(t\right)$ belongs to a cone and −Du$-Du$ to a dual cone may hold only on time intervals whose length is less than or equal to a defined number. Then oscillatory functions are dealt with in the framework of Banach spaces with a cone and conditions for the existence of a uniform oscillatory time for solutions of the equation Du=0$Du=0$ are given.     

Periodic solutions of second order differential equations in Banach spaces

We use operator-valued Fourier multiplier theorems to study second order differential equations in Banach spaces. We establish maximal regularity results in L^p and C^s for strong solutions of a complete second order equation. In the second part, we study mild solutions for the second order problem. Two types of mild solutions are considered. When the operator A involved is the generator of a strongly continuous cosine function, we give characterizations in terms of Fourier multipliers and spectral properties of the cosine function. The results obtained are applied to elliptic partial differential operators. On the continuity of the spectrum in certain Banach algebras

In this paper we describe some classes of linear operatorsTL(H) (mainly Toeplitz, Wiener-Hopf and singular integral) on a Hilbert spacesH such that the spectrum (T, L(H)) is continuous at the pointsT from these classes. We also describe some subalgebras of the algebras for which the spectrum (x,) becomes continuous at the pointsx when (x,) is restricted to the subalgebra . In particular, we show that the spectrum (x,) is continuous in Banach algebras with polynomial identities. Approximating solutions of Hammerstein type equations in Banach spaces

Abstract

Let X be a real Banach space and X^? be its dual. Let F: X → X^? and K: X^? → X be Lipschitz monotone mappings. In this paper an explicit iterative scheme is constructed for approximating solutions of the Hammerstein type equation, 0 = u + KF u, when they exist. Strong convergence of the scheme is obtained under appropriate conditions. Our results improve and unify many of the results in the literature.     

Stochastic partial differential equations in M-type 2 Banach spaces

We study abstract stochastic evolution equations in M-type 2 Banach spaces. Applications to stochastic partial differential equations inL ^p spaces withp2 are given. For example, solutions of such equations are Hölder continuous in the space variables.The author is an Alexander von Humboldt Stiftung fellow     

Nonlinear mean ergodic theorems for nonexpansive semigroups in Banach spaces

We prove two nonlinear ergodic theorems for noncommutative semigroups of nonexpansive mappings in Banach spaces. Using these results, we obtain some nonlinear ergodic theorems for discrete and one-parameter semigroups of nonexpansive mappings. Dedicated to Professors Albrecht Dold and Ed Fadell     

Expansion of the boundaries of the solutions of the linear Volterra integral equations with convolution kernel

We solve a certain differential equation and system of integral equations. As applications, we characterize holomorphic symbols of commuting Toeplitz operators on the pluriharmonic Bergman space. In addition, pluriharmonic symbols of normal Toeplitz operators are characterized. Also, zero semi-commutators for certain classes of Toeplitz operators are characterized.This research is partially supported by KOSEF(98-0701-03-01-5).     

Differential equations with non-absolutely integrable functions in ordered Banach spaces

In this paper we derive existence and comparison results for initial value problems in ordered Banach spaces. The considered problems can be implicit, singular, functional, discontinuous and nonlocal. The main tools are fixed point results in ordered spaces and theory of HL integrable vector-valued functions. Concrete examples are presented and solved.     

Delay difference equations in Banach spaces

We derive explicit stability conditions for semilinear delay difference equations in a Banach space. It is assumed that the nonlinearities of the considered equations satisfy the local Lipschitz condition. By virtue of the new estimates for the norm of functions of quasi-Hermitian operators, explicit stability and boundedness conditions are given. Applications to infinite dimensional delay difference systems are discussed.     

On perturbations of linear m-accretive operators on reflexive Banach spaces

In this note we prove some results on the m-accretivity of sums and products of linear operators. In particular we obtain the following theorem: LetA, B be two m-accretive operators on a reflexive Banach space. IfA is invertible and (A)^–1 B is accretive thenBA ^–1 andA+B are m-accretive.     

Oscillation criteria for boundary value problems of high-order partial functional differential equations

In this paper, a class of boundary value problems associated with high-order partial functional differential equations with distributed deviating arguments is investigated. Some oscillation criteria of solutions to the problem are developed. Our approach is to reduce the multi-dimensional oscillation problem to a one-dimensional oscillation one by employing some integral means of solutions and introducing some parameter functions. One illustrative example is considered.     

Classification of linear time-varying difference equations under kinematic similarity

This paper concerns the problem to classify linear time-varying finite dimensional systems of difference equations under kinematic similarity, i.e., under a uniformly bounded time-varying change of variables of which the inverse is also uniformly bounded. Also the problem of reducing difference equations by using such similarity transformations is studied. Both problems are solved for a number of subclasses, including equations with scalar coefficients, time-invariant equations, finitely supported equations, and equations with one jump. For the general case an open problem is formulated.The research has been carried out during the third author's Ph.-D. period at the Faculteit der Wiskunde en Informatica, Vrije Universiteit, Amsterdam, The Netherlands     

Symmetric relations and module spaces

We study module spaces for linear relations (multi-valued operators) in a Hilbert space. The defect spaces are not required to be finite-dimensional. In particular we pay attention to module spaces for symmetric relations.     

Fredholm theory in ordered Banach algebras

This paper illustrates some initial steps taken in the e?ort of unifying the theory of positivity in ordered Banach algebas (OBAs) with the general Fredholm theory in Banach algebras. We introduce here upper Weyl and upper Browder elements in an OBA relative to an arbitrary Banach algebra homomorphism and investigate the spectra corresponding to the sets of upper Weyl and upper Browder elements, which we shall refer to as the upper Weyl and upper Browder spectra, respectively.     

Toeplitz operators on Dirichlet spaces

In this paper we consider Toeplitz operators on Dirichlet spaces of the unit disk in whose symbols are nonnegative measures. We obtain necessry and sufficient conditions on the symbols for the operator to be bounded and compact. If the symbols are supported in a cone we also get necessary and sufficient conditions for the operators to belong to the Schatten p-class. The Banach envelopes of Besov and Triebel-Lizorkin spaces and applications to partial differential equations

With “hat” denoting the Banach envelope (of a quasi-Banach space) we prove that if 0<p<1, 0<q<1, ℝ, while if 0<p<1, 1≤q<+∞, ∝, and if 1≤p<+∞, 0<q<1, ℝ. Applications to questions regarding the global interior regularity of solutions to Poisson type problems for the three-dimensional Lamé system in Lipschitz domains are presented.     

On the spectral radius of positive operators on Banach sequence spaces

Let K₁,…,K_n be (infinite) non-negative matrices that define operators on a Banach sequence space. Given a function f:[0,∞)×…×[0,∞)→[0,∞) of n variables, we define a non-negative matrix and consider the inequality

     

Self-adjoint extensions for second-order symmetric linear difference equations

In this paper, self-adjoint extensions for second-order symmetric linear difference equations with real coefficients are studied. By applying the Glazman-Krein-Naimark theory for Hermitian subspaces, both self-adjoint subspace extensions and self-adjoint operator extensions of the corresponding minimal subspaces are completely characterized in terms of boundary conditions, where the two endpoints may be regular or singular.     

Compact linear operators on functional spaces with two norms

Some principles of the operator theory in a linear space with two norms are established in this paper. The well-known Hilbert-Schmidt theorem on the eigenfunction expansion of sourcewise represented functions, Mercer's theorem and other results can be consider as special cases of the statements presented. The general approach proposed is used to construct the theory of symmetrizable operators and to investigate the asymptotic behaviour of eigenvalues of compact operators.This paper was translated by M.
