Inspired by recent activities on Whittaker modules over various (Lie) algebras, we describe a general framework for the study of Lie algebra modules locally finite over a subalgebra. As a special case, we obtain a very general set-up for the study of Whittaker modules, which includes, in particular, Lie algebras with triangular decomposition and simple Lie algebras of Cartan type. We describe some basic properties of Whittaker modules, including a block decomposition of the category of Whittaker modules and certain properties of simple Whittaker modules under some rather mild assumptions. We establish a connection between our general set-up and the general set-up of Harish-Chandra subalgebras in the sense of Drozd, Futorny and Ovsienko. For Lie algebras with triangular decomposition, we construct a family of simple Whittaker modules (roughly depending on the choice of a pair of weights in the dual of the Cartan subalgebra), describe their annihilators, and formulate several classification conjectures. In particular, we construct some new simple Whittaker modules for the Virasoro algebra. Finally, we construct a series of simple Whittaker modules for the Lie algebra of derivations of the polynomial algebra, and consider several finite-dimensional examples, where we study the category of Whittaker modules over solvable Lie algebras and their relation to Koszul algebras.  相似文献

Invariant Lie Algebras and Lie Algebras with a Small Centroid   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1
A subalgebra of a Lie algebra is said to be invariant if it is invariant under the action of some Cartan subalgebra of that algebra. A known theorem of Melville says that a nilpotent invariant subalgebra of a finite-dimensional semisimple complex Lie algebra has a small centroid. The notion of a Lie algebra with small centroid extends to a class of all finite-dimensional algebras. For finite-dimensional algebras of zero characteristic with semisimple derivations in a sufficiently broad class, their centroid is proved small. As a consequence, it turns out that every invariant subalgebra of a finite-dimensional reductive Lie algebra over an arbitrary definition field of zero characteristic has a small centroid.  相似文献

The Lie algebra of Cartan type K which occurs as a subalgebra of the Lie algebra of derivations of the polynomial algebra F[x0, x1,…, xn,xn?1,…,x?n], where F is a field of characteristic 0, was generalized by the first author to a class which included a subalgebra of the derivations of the Laurent polynomials F[x0,x1,…, xn,x?1,…,x?n,X0 ?1x1 -1,…,xn ?1,…,x?1 ?1…,x?n ?1]A further generalization of these algebras is the main topic of this paper. We show when these algebras are simple, determine all possible  相似文献

Every semisimple Lie algebra defines a root system on the dual space of a Cartan subalgebra and a Cartan matrix, which expresses the dual of the Killing form on a root base. Serre’s Theorem [J.-P. Serre, Complex Semisimple Lie Algebras (G.A. Jones, Trans.), Springer-Verlag, New York, 1987] gives then a representation of the given Lie algebra in generators and relations in terms of the Cartan matrix. In this work, we generalize Serre’s Theorem to give an explicit representation in generators and relations for any simply laced semisimple Lie algebra in terms of a positive quasi-Cartan matrix. Such a quasi-Cartan matrix expresses the dual of the Killing form for a Z-base of roots. Here, by a Z-base of roots, we mean a set of linearly independent roots which generate all roots as linear combinations with integral coefficients.  相似文献

We study irreducible representations for the Lie algebra of vector fields on a 2-dimensional torus constructed using the generalized Verma modules. We show that for a certain choice of parameters these representations remain irreducible when restricted to a loop subalgebra in the Lie algebra of vector fields. We prove this result by studying vertex algebras associated with the Lie algebra of vector fields on a torus and solving non-commutative differential equations that we derive using the vertex algebra technique.  相似文献

In this paper we discuss the “Factorization phenomenon” which occurs when a representation of a Lie algebra is restricted to a subalgebra, and the result factors into a tensor product of smaller representations of the subalgebra. We analyze this phenomenon for symmetrizable Kac-Moody algebras (including finite-dimensional, semi-simple Lie algebras). We present a few factorization results for a general embedding of a symmetrizable Kac-Moody algebra into another and provide an algebraic explanation for such a phenomenon using Spin construction. We also give some application of these results for semi-simple, finite-dimensional Lie algebras. We extend the notion of Spin functor from finite-dimensional to symmetrizable Kac-Moody algebras, which requires a very delicate treatment. We introduce a certain category of orthogonal g-representations for which, surprisingly, the Spin functor gives a g-representation in Bernstein-Gelfand-Gelfand category O. Also, for an integrable representation, Spin produces an integrable representation. We give the formula for the character of Spin representation for the above category and work out the factorization results for an embedding of a finite-dimensional, semi-simple Lie algebra into its untwisted affine Lie algebra. Finally, we discuss the classification of those representations for which Spin is irreducible.  相似文献

A class of the associative and Lie algebras A[D] = A F[D] of Weyl type are studied, where A is a commutative associative algebra with an identity element over a field F of characteristic zero, and F[D] is the polynomial algebra of a finite dimensional commutative subalgebra of locally finite derivations of A such that A is D-simple. The derivations of these associative and Lie algebras are precisely determined.  相似文献

Let K be an algebraically closed field of characteristic zero, $\frak {g}$ be a countably dimensional locally finite Lie algebra over K, and $\frak {h} \subset \frak {g}$ be a (a priori non-abelian) locally nilpotent subalgebra of $\frak {g}$ which coincides with its zero Fitting component. We classify all such pairs $(\frak {g}, \frak {h})$ under the assumptions that the locally solvable radical of $\frak {g}$ equals zero and that $\frak {g}$ admits a root decomposition with respect to $\frak {h}$. More precisely, we prove that $\frak {g}$ is the union of reductive subalgebras $\frak {g}_n$ such that the intersections $\frak {g}_n \cap \frak {h}$ are nested Cartan subalgebras of $\frak {g}_n$ with compatible root decompositions. This implies that $\frak {g}$ is root-reductive and that $\frak {h}$ is abelian. Root-reductive locally finite Lie algebras are classified in [6]. The result of the present note is a more general version of the main classification theorem in [9] and is at the same time a new criterion for a locally finite Lie algebra to be root-reductive. Finally we give an explicit example of an abelian selfnormalizing subalgebra $\frak {h}$ of $\frak {g} = \frak {sl}(\infty)$ with respect to which $\frak {g}$ does not admit a root decomposition.Work Supported in Part by the University of Hamburg and the Max Planck Institute for Mathematics, Bonn  相似文献

We define a class of infinite-dimensional Lie algebras that generalize the universal enveloping algebra of the algebra sl(2, ℂ) regarded as a Lie algebra. These algebras are a special case of ℤ-graded Lie algebras with a continuous root system, namely, their Cartan subalgebra is the algebra of polynomials in one variable. The continuous limit of these algebras defines new Poisson brackets on algebraic surfaces. In memory of M. V. If U is a subnormal subalgebra of a finite-dimensional Leibniz algebra L and M is a finite-dimensional irreducible L-bimodule, then all U-bimodule composition factors of M are isomorphic. If U is a subnormal subalgebra of a finite-dimensional Leibniz algebra L, then the nilpotent residual of U is an ideal of L. Engel subalgebras of finite-dimensional Leibniz algebras are shown to have similar properties to those of Lie algebras. A subalgebra is shown to be a Cartan subalgebra if and only if it is minimal Engel, provided that the field has sufficiently many elements.  相似文献

Abstract

The main purpose of this paper is to study Lie algebras L such that if a subalgebra U of L has a maximal subalgebra of dimension one then every maximal subalgebra of U has dimension one. Such an L is called lm(0)-algebra. This class of Lie algebras emerges when it is imposed on the lattice of subalgebras of a Lie algebra the condition that every atom is lower modular. We see that the effect of that condition is highly sensitive to the ground field F. If F is algebraically closed, then every Lie algebra is lm(0). By contrast, for every algebraically non-closed field there exist simple Lie algebras which are not lm(0). For the real field, the semisimple lm(0)-algebras are just the Lie algebras whose Killing form is negative-definite. Also, we study when the simple Lie algebras having a maximal subalgebra of codimension one are lm(0), provided that char(F) ≠ 2. Moreover, lm(0)-algebras lead us to consider certain other classes of Lie algebras and the largest ideal of an arbitrary Lie algebra L on which the action of every element of L is split, which might have some interest by themselves.  相似文献

One of the most profound results in the theory of Lie algebras states that any two Cartan subalgebras of a finite-dimensional Lie algebra over an algebraically closed field of characteristic 0 are conjugate relative to the group of special automorphisms generated by the exponents of nilpotent inner derivations. Using some new ideas, we prove an analog of this statement for n-ary n-Lie algebras. Other interesting properties of Cartan algebras, which are known to be shared by Lie algebras, are carried over to n-Lie algebras.Translated fromAlgebra i Logika, Vol. 34, No. 4, pp. 405–419, July-August, 1995.  相似文献

For each pair (??,??) consisting of a real Lie algebra ?? and a subalgebra a of some Cartan subalgebra ?? of ?? such that [??, ??]∪ [??, ??] we define a Weyl group W(??, ??) and show that it is finite. In particular, W(??, ??,) is finite for any Cartan subalgebra h. The proof involves the embedding of 0 into the Lie algebra of a complex algebraic linear Lie group to which the structure theory of Lie algebras and algebraic groups is applied. If G is a real connected Lie group with Lie algebra ??, the normalizer N(??, G) acts on the finite set Λ of roots of the complexification ??c with respect to hc, giving a representation π : N(??, G)→ S(Λ) into the symmetric group on the set Λ. We call the kernel of this map the Cartan subgroup C(??) of G with respect to h; the image is isomorphic to W(??, ??), and C(??)= {g G : Ad(g)(h)— h ε [h,h] for all h ε h }. All concepts introduced and discussed reduce in special situations to the familiar ones. The information on the finiteness of the Weyl groups is applied to show that under very general circumstance, for b ∪ ?? the set ??? ?(b) remains finite as ? ranges through the full group of inner automorphisms of ??.  相似文献

Lie algebras of Cartan type over fields of prime characteristic were introduced by [15. and 16.] [15]. More general definitions were later given in [12, 13, 16, 23]. In this paper we give a further generalization of the definition of Lie algebra of Cartan type and a structural characterization of the simple finite dimensional Lie algebras of generalized Cartan type over algebraically closed fields.  相似文献

The paper shows how to associate a motivic zeta function with a large class of infinite dimensional Lie algebras. These include loop algebras, affine Kac-Moody algebras, the Virasoro algebra and Lie algebras of Cartan type. The concept of a motivic zeta functions provides a good language to talk about the uniformity in p of local p-adic zeta functions of finite dimensional Lie algebras. The theory of motivic integration is employed to prove the rationality of motivic zeta functions associated to certain classes of infinite dimensional Lie algebras.  相似文献
