The contribution of the QCD high-twist subprocess γq→πq′ to the inclusive cross section for e+ e? → e+ e? + π± + X is calculated both in the PETRA/PEP and the LEP energy range, in the equivalent-photon approximation. Superposed on the Born cross section and its O(αs) correction, it gives agreement with the data at relatively low transverse momenta. It is suggested that this high-twist contribution may be further isolated experimentally by triggering simultaneously on both a fast hadron and the opposite-side jet.  相似文献

We give the spectrum in momentum and angle of directly produced γ's in e+e?γ + hadrons, and show that in QCD if p2 of the recoil hadron jet relative to the photon is large, the leading logarithmic corrections to the lowest order result are absent. This process is therefore of great value in learning whether QCD actually governs quark dynamics.  相似文献

The reaction γp →ωp(ω → π+π?π0 and π0 → γ γ) has been studied in ep interactions using the ZEUS detector at photon-proton centre-of-mass energies between 70 and 90GeV and ∣t∣ < 0.6GeV2, where t is the squared four momentum transferred at the proton vertex. The elastic ω photoproduction cross section has been measured to be σγp → ωp = 1.21 ±0.12 ±0.23 μb. The differential cross section dσγp→ωp/d¦t¦ has an exponential shape e?b∣t∣ with a slope b =10.0 ± 1.2 ± 1.3 GeV?2. The angular distributions of the decay pions are consistent with s-channel helicity conservation. When compared to low energy data, the features of ω photoproduction as measured at HERA energies are in agreement with those of a soft diffractive process. Previous measurements of the ρ0 and ? photoproduction cross sections at HERA show a similar behaviour.  相似文献

The cross section of the process e + e ? → π+π? was measured in the spherical neutral detector experiment at the VEPP-2M collider in the energy region $400 < \sqrt s < 1000 MeV$ . This measurement was based on about 12.4 × 106 selected collinear events, which include 7.4 × 106 e + e ?e + e ?, 4.5 × 106 e + e ? → π+π?, and 0.5 × 106 e + e ? → μ+μ? selected events. The systematic uncertainty of cross section determination is 1.3%. The ρ-meson parameters were determined as m ρ = 774.9±0.4±0.5 MeV, Γ ρ = 146.5±0.8±1.5 MeV, and σ(ρ → π+π?) = 1220 ± 7 ± 16 nb and the parameters of the G-parity suppressed decay ω → π+π? as σ(ω → π+π?) = 29.9 ± 1.4 ± 1.0 nb and φρω = 113.5±1.3±1.7°.  相似文献

Evidence for the intermediate bosons in high energy pp and p?p collisions as signal in the cross section of large pT charged lepton pp, ppW±+X, W±?±ν? is considered for CM energy range s=100?800GeV. Besides the usual Drell-Yan term which gives a very sharp peak in the lepton pT distribution, the first order QCD contribution is included thus producing the intermediate boson with transverse momentum and smearing the lepton distribution. Scaling violation of the structure functions is incorporated and compared with the case when it is absent.  相似文献

QCD O(αs2) corrections to large-pT real and virtual photon production from scattering in the quark-gluon channel are studied in the soft gluon limit. In this limit we carefully preserve the analytic structure of amplitudes in the small-momenta integration regions. The result is a rather large correction to the Born term which significantly improves the agreement with data on p + p → γ + X. The application of the approach to other processes is discussed and the dominant terms of the O(αs2) correction to e+e? → three jets are reproduced.  相似文献

As a possible explanation of the SLAC anomalous eμ events, we computed the cross section for e+ + e? → V+ + V?μ± + e± + neutrinos, taking into account the spin correlations of V±. If one assumes that the vector meson has an anomalous magnetic moment (κ ≈ 1), the spin effects are considerable. The V± production hypothesis seems to be a viable alternative to that of the heavy lepton production.  相似文献

We have measured the absolute cross section for dimuon production in hadron collisions at 200 GeV/c in the continuum region M = 4–8.5 GeV. In all the channels studied (pN, pN, π±N and π?H2) the experimental cross section is significantly larger by a factor of 2.3 ± 0.5 than expected from the Drell-Yan model. Furthermore, our proton-nucleon data allow a determination of the nucleon valence structure function which agrees with the deep inelastic lepton scattering data.  相似文献

Published data on lepton pair and quark pair final states ine + e ? annihilation have been analysed in a self consistent way to yield values for the lepton and quark weak vector and axial vector couplings. Generation universality has been tested for the leptons and under the assumption of the standard model of the weak interaction, the parameter sin2θ w has been determined separately for the lepton and quark sector. In the renormalisation scheme α,G μ and sin2θ w , the result for the lepton final states is sin2θ w = 0.212±0.014 and for the hadron final states, sin2θ w = 0.236±0.015. The combined result for this single parameter in the model is sin2θ w = 0.223±0.011±0.007, corresponding tom Z =93.0 ?1.8 +2.0 GeV.  相似文献

An event of the form e+e?μ+μ? + (2 jets) recently observed at √s = 43.45 GeV is interpreted as production of a pair of neutral heavy leptons N, each with mass 20.5 ± 1.0 Gev/c2. Two possibilities are explored: (i) the lepton is a wak isodoublet neutrino, produced in pairs by virtual Z0 decay. In this case, one expects B(Z0NN) ≈ 5%; (ii) the lepton is a “right-handed neutrino”, produced in pairs via a new vector boson Zχ. In this case, in one model, the Zχ must lie between about 50 and 67 GeV/c2. More generally, it must be very weakly coupled to ordinary quarks and leptons in order not to conflict with low-q2 neutral-current data. Suggestions are made for further observation of NN pairs and other effects of Zχ in forthcoming e+e? and pp collisions.  相似文献

We estimate the gluon vacuum condensate α s F 2〉 from thee +e?→I=1 hadron cross-section known below 2 GeV using moment sum rules ratios. We obtain α s F 2〉= (3.9±1.0)10?2GeV4. We also re-evaluate the contribution of the dimension-six vacuum condensates to the above sum rule and test the factorization hypothesis of the four-quark operator. Useful rules for the evaluation of the dimension-six vacuum condensates contributions are given.  相似文献

Direct photon production in p-p, π-p and p-p collisions at large transverse momenta (pT) is studied in QCD and compared with existing data. Apart from the quark-gluon and quark-antiquark contributions, corrections due to bremsstrahlung of photons (q+q→q+q+γ) and to partons' intrinsic transverse momenta are taken into account. It is shown that p+p→γ+X provides one of the best determinations of the gluon distribution in the proton. Hadron production with an opposite-side large-pT photon trigger is also studied. It is shown that the difference between the momentum sharing (xe) distributions of π?+p→γ+π±+X and π++p →γ+π±+X (or of p+p→γ+π±+X and p+p→γ+π±+X) provides a good determinati on of the gluon fragmentation to a pion.  相似文献

The e + e ? → ω, ρ → π0 e + e ? processes have been investigated in the experiments with Spherical Neutral Detector at the VEPP-2M e + e ? collider. The measurements provide the probability ?(ω → π0 e + e ?) = (0.761 ± 0.053 ± 0.064) × 10?3 of the ω → π0 e + e g- conversion decay and the upper limit ?(ρ → π0 e + e ?) < 1.2 × 10?5 (at 90% CL) for the ρ → π0 e + e ? decay. We report on the results of the study of e+e? collisions at the highest PETRA energy of √s = 31.57 GeV, using the 4π sr, electromagnetic and calorimetric detector Mark J. Based on 88 hadron events, and an integrated luminosity of 243 nb?1 we obtain R = σ(e+e? → hadrons)/σ(e+e?μ+μ?) = 4.0 ± 0.5 (statistical) ± 6 (systematic). The R value, the measured thrust distribution and average spherocity show no evidence for the production of new quark flavors.  相似文献

The radiative decayJ/ψ → γ π+ π? has been studied using the 8.6 millionJ/ψ produced in the DM2 experiment at the DCIe +e? storage rings at Orsay. The π+ π? mass spectrum shows a cleanf 2 (1270) signal, and the possible presence of two other states at thef 2 (1720) andf 4 (2030) masses. For thef 2 (1270), the branching ratio BR(J/ψ →γf)xBR(f→π+ π?) is measured to be (7.50±0.30±1.12)×10?4, and the spin analysis prefers theJ=2 assignment, with helicity parametersx=0.83±0.06 andy=0.01±0.06. The differences among recent calculations of the O(αs2) QCD corrections to shape variable distributions for e+e? annihilation are shown to arise from different underlying definitions of jets and jet observables. In particular, the Caltech (large corrections) and DESY (small corrections) results are not obviously contradictory. We raise questions on the validity of all such calculations for the precise empirical determination of αs from data for e+e?→ hadrons.  相似文献
