Reproducible and controllable growth of nanostructures with well‐defined physical and chemical properties is a longstanding problem in nanoscience. A key step to address this issue is to understand their underlying growth mechanism, which is often entangled in the complexity of growth environments and obscured by rapid reaction speeds. Herein, we demonstrate that the evolution of size, surface morphology, and the optical properties of gold plasmonic nanostructures could be quantitatively intercepted by dynamic and stoichiometric control of the DNA‐mediated growth. By combining synchrotron‐based small‐angle X‐ray scattering (SAXS) with transmission electron microscopy (TEM), we reliably obtained quantitative structural parameters for these fine nanostructures that correlate well with their optical properties as identified by UV/Vis absorption and dark‐field scattering spectroscopy. Through this comprehensive study, we report a growth mechanism for gold plasmonic nanostructures, and the first semiquantitative revelation of the remarkable interplay between their morphology and unique plasmonic properties.  相似文献

The multiparametric nature of nanoparticle self‐assembly makes it challenging to circumvent the instabilities that lead to aggregation and achieve crystallization under extreme conditions. By using non‐base‐pairing DNA as a model ligand instead of the typical base‐pairing design for programmability, long‐range 2D DNA–gold nanoparticle crystals can be obtained at extremely high salt concentrations and in a divalent salt environment. The interparticle spacings in these 2D nanoparticle crystals can be engineered and further tuned based on an empirical model incorporating the parameters of ligand length and ionic strength.  相似文献

The properties of many functional materials depend critically on the spatial distribution of an active phase within a support. In the case of solid catalysts, controlling the spatial distribution of metal (oxide) nanoparticles at the mesoscopic scale offers new strategies to tune their performance and enhance their lifetimes. However, such advanced control requires suitable characterization methods, which are currently scarce. Here, we show how the background in small‐angle X‐ray scattering patterns can be analyzed to quantitatively access the mesoscale distribution of nanoparticles within supports displaying hierarchical porosity. This is illustrated for copper catalysts supported on meso‐ and microporous silica displaying distinctly different metal distributions. Results derived from X‐ray scattering are in excellent agreement with electron tomography. Our strategy opens unprecedented prospects for understanding the properties and to guide the synthesis of a wide array of functional nanomaterials.  相似文献

This study is concerned with fiber structure of new high‐modulus type PBO fiber. Crystal modulus and molecular orientation change with stress was surveyed. Standard‐modulus type PBO (AS) fiber has hysteresis effect to applied stress while high‐modulus type PBO (HM) fiber shows reversible change. In order to raise actual PBO fiber modulus higher, nonaqueous coagulation process was adopted with conventional heat treatment. The fiber (HM+) so made gives 360 GPa in the Young's modulus and an absence of small‐angle X‐ray scattering pattern that is characteristic for aqueous‐coagulated PBO fiber with heat treatment (Zylon™ HM). The crystal structure form and crystal size for the HM+ fiber are the same as those of the HM fiber. © 2000 John Wiley & Sons, Inc. J Polym Sci B: Polym Phys 38: 1605–1611, 2000  相似文献

Poly(ethylene terephthalate) films with oriented lamellar structure were deformed in tensile experiments and investigated in situ using small angle X‐ray scattering. The tensile direction was set parallel, normal and in an angle of 45° relative to the surface normal of the lamellae. Data were interpreted in terms of two‐dimensional autocorrelation functions. The deformation of lattice spacing and lamellar orientation can largely be explained by affine transformations. The sample, where the lamellar surface normal was normal to tensile direction, developed a chequerboard type arrangement of crystalline parts. © 2017 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J. Polym. Segment‐segment interaction of poly(methylmethacrylate) in t‐butyl alcohol‐water mixtures in poor solvent regime was studied. From the small‐angle X‐ray scattering measurements of semidilute solution range, the binary and ternary cluster integrals of polymer segments were determined from concentration dependence of the correlation length at various temperatures just above the upper critical solution temperature. We have calculated the contributions of the segment–segment interaction to the entropy and enthalpy from the measured temperature dependence of these interaction parameters and found that both quantities are negative and decrease with decreasing t‐butyl alcohol content. FT‐IR absorption peak of carbonyl group of poly(methylmethacrylate) shifts to the lower frequency with increasing water content. The implications of these findings are discussed. © 1999 John Wiley & Sons, Inc. J Polym Sci B: Polym Phys 37: 2195–2199, 1999  相似文献

Lipidic cubic phases (LCPs) are used in areas ranging from membrane biology to biodevices. Because some membrane proteins are notoriously unstable at room temperature, and available LCPs undergo transformation to lamellar phases at low temperatures, development of stable low‐temperature LCPs for biophysical studies of membrane proteins is called for. Monodihydrosterculin (MDS) is a designer lipid based on monoolein (MO) with a configurationally restricted cyclopropyl ring replacing the olefin. Small‐angle X‐ray scattering (SAXS) analyses revealed a phase diagram for MDS lacking the high‐temperature, highly curved reverse hexagonal phase typical for MO, and extending the cubic phase boundary to lower temperature, thereby establishing the relationship between lipid molecular structure and mesophase behavior. The use of MDS as a new material for LCP‐based membrane protein crystallization at low temperature was demonstrated by crystallizing bacteriorhodopsin at 20 °C as well as 4 °C.  相似文献

We examine the crystallization and chain conformation behavior of semicrystalline poly(ethylene oxide) (PEO) and amorphous poly(vinyl acetate) (PVAc) mixtures with wide‐angle X‐ray diffraction (WAXD), small‐angle X‐ray scattering (SAXS), and small‐angle neutron scattering (SANS) experiments. For blends with PEO weight fractions (wtPEO) greater than or equal to 0.3, below the melting point of PEO, the WAXD patterns reveal that crystalline PEO belongs to the monoclinic system. The unit‐cell parameters are independent of wtPEO. However, the bulk crystallinity determined from WAXD decreases as wtPEO decreases. The scattered intensities from SAXS experiments show that the systems form an ordered crystalline/amorphous lamellar structure. In a combination of WAXD and SAXS analysis, the related morphological parameters are assigned correctly. With the addition of amorphous PVAc, both the average amorphous layer thickness and long spacing increase, whereas the average crystalline layer thickness decreases. We find that a two‐phase analysis of the correlation function from SAXS, in which the scattering invariant is linearly proportional to the volume fraction of lamellar stacks, describes quantitatively the crystallization behavior of PEO in the presence of PVAc. When wtPEO is close to 1, the samples are fully spaced‐filled with lamellar stacks. As wtPEO decreases from 1.0 to 0.3, more PVAc chains are excluded from the interlamellar region into the interfibrillar region. The fraction outside the lamellar stacks, which is completely occupied with PVAc chains, increases from 0 to 58%. Because the radius of gyration of PVAc with a random‐coil configuration determined from SANS is smaller than the average amorphous layer thickness from SAXS, we believe that the amorphous PVAc chains still persist with a random‐coil configuration even when the blends form an ordered structure. © 2001 John Wiley & Sons, Inc. Three stages of elastic behavior were observed during cyclic deformations for poly(ether‐b‐amide) (PEBA) segmented copolymers based on crystalline hard segments of polyamide 12 (PA12) and amorphous soft segments of poly(tetramethylene oxide) (PTMO). The underlying microstructural evolution was characterized by a combination of in situ Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), wide‐angle X‐ray diffraction (WAXD), and small‐angle X‐ray scattering (SAXS) technologies. The γ–α″ phase transition of crystalline PA12 occurred upon stretching, and the orientation of the α″ phase was less reversible under larger strains. PTMO chain orientation cannot be restored to the initial state, contributing to plastic deformation. Driven by the entropy effect, the strain‐induced crystallization of PTMO can fuse during sample retarding, exerting little influence on the residual strain. For PEBA with a shore D hardness of 35 D, the long period (L) can be restored to the initial L after the sample was unloaded until system fibrillation. The tie molecules between adjacent oriented lamellae can be by drawn out high stress in a PEBA material with a shore D hardness of 40 D, and the relaxation led to a second long period. © 2018 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Despite over a century of modern surfactant science, the kinetic pathways of morphological transitions in micellar systems are still not well understood. This is mainly as a result of the lack of sufficiently fast methods that can capture the structural changes of such transitions. Herein, a simple surfactant system consisting of sodium dodecyl sulfate (SDS) in aqueous NaCl solutions is investigated. Combining synchrotron radiation small‐angle X‐ray scattering (SAXS) with fast stopped‐flow mixing schemes allows monitoring the process where polymer‐like micelles are formed from globular micelles when the salt concentration is suddenly increased. The results show that “worm‐like” micelles are formed by fusion of globular micelles and short cylinders in a fashion that bears similarities to a step‐like polymerization process.  相似文献

Temperature dependency of crystalline lamellar thickness during crystallization and subsequent melting in isotactic polypropylene crystallized from both quiescent molten state and stress‐induced localized melt was investigated using small angle X‐ray scattering technique. Both cases yield well‐defined crystallization lines where inverse lamellar thickness is linearly dependent on crystallization temperature with the stretching‐induced crystallization line shifted slightly to smaller thickness direction than the isothermal crystallization one indicating both crystallization processes being mediated a mesomorphic phase. However, crystallites obtained via different routes (quiescent melt or stress‐induced localized melt) show different melting behaviors. The one from isothermal crystallization melted directly without significant changing in lamellar thickness yielding well‐defined melting line whereas stress‐induced crystallites followed a recrystallization line. Such results can be associated with the different extent of stabilization of crystallites obtained through different crystallization routes. © 2017 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J. Polym. Supercritical growth: The formation and evolution of ceria nanoparticles during hydrothermal synthesis was investigated by in?situ total scattering and powder diffraction. The nucleation of pristine crystalline ceria nanoparticles originated from previously unknown cerium dimer complexes. The nanoparticle growth was highly accelerated under supercritical conditions.  相似文献

The morphology and distribution of zirconium oxide and zirconium phosphates in a matrix of sulfonated poly(ether ether ketone) (SPEEK) were investigated with anomalous small‐angle X‐ray scattering (ASAXS) and electron microscopy. ASAXS revealed that ZrO2 was distributed in the SPEEK matrix in the form of nanoparticles smaller than 13 Å. A decrease in the conductivity suggested that the sulfonic groups were bound to the zirconium oxo species at the particle surface. Furthermore, two kinds of membranes containing zirconium phosphate were investigated. In one case, the phosphate was directly dispersed in the polymer solution for the casting of the membrane. In the other case, the phosphate was previously treated with n‐propyl ammonium and polybenzimidazole. From ASAXS data, the fractal dimension could be estimated. Mass‐fractal behavior was confirmed for the SPEEK membrane containing previously exfoliated zirconium phosphate, with aggregates of 6.3–165 Å. Surface‐fractal behavior was detected for membranes with untreated phosphates, with aggregates of 6.4–185 Å. The untreated phosphates caused an increase in the permeability, without changing the proton conductivity much. © 2003 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Determination of the factors that affect the d‐band center of catalysts is required to explain their catalytic properties. Resonant inelastic X‐ray scattering (RIXS) enables direct imaging of electronic transitions in the d‐band of Pt catalysts in real time and in realistic environmental conditions. Through a combination of in situ, temperature‐resolved RIXS measurements and theoretical simulations we isolated and quantified the effects of bond‐length disorder and adsorbate coverage (CO and H2) on the d‐band center of 1.25 nm size Pt catalysts supported on carbon. We found that the decrease in adsorbate coverage at elevated temperatures is responsible for the d band shifts towards higher energies relative to the Fermi level, whereas the effect of the increase in bond‐length disorder on the d‐band center is negligible. Although these results were obtained for a specific case of non‐interacting support and weak temperature dependence of the metal–metal bond length in a model catalyst, this work can be extended to a broad range of real catalysts.  相似文献

Gram‐scale crystalline, pure phase, superparamagnetic magnetite nanoparticles were synthesized without surfactants in supercritical water in less than one hour using a laboratory‐scale continuous‐flow reactor.
