Lipid analogue amphiphilic molecules containing polymerizable units were investigated in monolayers at the air/water interface by using film balance measurements, fluorescence microscopy, and photobleaching techniques. The polymerizable groups (diene-, diyne-, and methacrylate units) were introduced into the hydrophobic alkyl chains or into the polar head of the amphiphilic molecules.In the case of the diene- and diyne-containing compounds the polymerizable units are incorporated into the hydrophobic alkyl chains, enabling them to form a two-dimensional network. Due to the free chain flexibility of the monomers the lateral mobility was comparable to that of saturated lipid analogues and decreases upon polymerization proportionally to the dose of UV irradiation. In addition, fluid/solid phase transitions of compounds with polymerizable groups in the hydrophobic part tend to vanish during the formation of the polymers. However, the direct observation of the growth of polymeric crystalline domains can be followed by using diacetylene lipid analogues.In the case of the methacrylate derivatives the polymerizable unit was coupled to the polar part via a flexible spacer. For these systems the characteristics of the monomeric phase transition are retained after polymerization. However, it shows a significant, strong decrease of the in-plane mobility already in the fluid-expanded phase of the polymer. The quantitative measurements of the lateral diffusion in the monolayers can be correlated with fluorescence microscopic images of their structure.  相似文献

The interaction between the anionic and cationic surfactants with Melittin spread monolayers at the air-water interface was investigated. The addition of anionic Cl, under the films of Melittin gives rise to a change in both surface pressure and surface potential. These interactions are different when surfactants are present, due to specific interactions between Melittin and the ionic-surfactants.  相似文献

A methacrylic lipid was polymerized to form an amphiphilic homopolymer and random copolymers with various levels of acrylic acid comonomers. The behavior of these polymeric lipids was investigated in monolayers at the air-water interface and in Langmuir-Blodgett multilayers on polymer foil supports. The acrylic acid acts as a hydrophilic spacer along the polymer backbone, and improves the ability of the polymer to self-organize into highly ordered monolayers and ultimately LB multilayers. It is shown that the quality and stability of the multilayers increase substantially with the increase in comonomer content.  相似文献

Monolayers of poly-methacrylates containing either aromatic or linear side groups were studied at the air-water interface. The aim of the work is to define the role of the aromatic group in determining the interfacial distribution and orientation of these polymers. Surface pressure measurements show that all the polymers give stable expanded monomolecular films between 288 K and 308 K temperature range.Surface potential and ellipsometric measurements show that both aromatic and aliphatic polymers are in an almost horizontal conformation at the liquid-air interface. From a comparison of the experimental isotherms with Huggins' theory, it was deduced that no preferential interactions exist between benzene rings in the film. In contrast, preferential attractive energies are observed for n-alkylmethacrylates.Further information on the state of the collapsed film was obtained from electron scanning micrographs.  相似文献

A series of trialkoxysilane compounds tipped with primary amine groups were used to functionalize the surfaces of glass and colloidal silica. Streaming potential and microelectrophoretic mobility measurements were used to monitor the stability of the functionalized surfaces.Hydrolytic breakdown of the surface-to-silane coupling was induced by either successively increasing and decreasing the pH of the solution in contact with the surface, or by aging the derivatised surfaces in aqueous solution over prolonged periods of time. The chemistry of the spacer units between the trialkoxysilane group and the primary amine tip had a major influence on the subsequent hydrolytic stability. Large hydrophobic spacer groups showed small changes in the electrokinetic properties on storage, but large changes when successively titrated with acid and base through the pH range. The behavior observed with small hydrophobic spacer groups was that large changes in electrokinetic properties were obtained on storage and with pH titration.  相似文献

The interfacial properties of mixtures of polymethacrylic polymers containing either aromatic or aliphatic side groups were studied at water-air interface in order to define the role of geometrical orientation on surface compatibility and the effect of aromatic interactions on ordered bidimensional systems. Two binary systems were studied: polyphenylmethacrylate/ polyhexylmethacrylate and polyphenylmethacrylate/polybenzylmethacrylate.Surface pressure and surface potential measurements were performed in the 288–303 K temperature range on the mixtures at different polymer concentrations. Further information was obtained from ellipsometric measurements and scanning electron microscopy of the collapsed material. The experimental results allow for the conclusion that both polymers containing aromatic groups are almost ideally miscible whereas mixtures of aliphatic and aromatic polymers are completely immiscible.  相似文献

Novel polymerizable surface-active monomers were synthesized by successive treatment of polyoxyethylene 4-nonyl-2-prpylene-phenyl ether ammonium sulfate with maleic anhydride in the presence of hydroquinone at temperature of 180°C. The molecular structures of the polymerizable surfactants were confirmed by 1H and 13C NMR spectroscopy. The surface tension isotherms on the air-water solution interface were obtained. The critical micelle concentrations (cmc) as well as the surface tension at the cmc were determined for these substances. The micellization and adsorption of the prepared anionic surfactants have been investigated by surface tension, and cloud point measurements. Surface parameters such as surface excess concentration (Γ max), the area per molecule at interface (A min) and the effectiveness of surface tension reduction (πCMC) were determined from the adsorption isotherms of the prepared surfactants.   相似文献

Interactions of the mixed surfactant solution of dodecylamido propyl dimethyl aminoacetate and sodium dodecyl sulfate with the liposomal membrane were studied. Lytic activities of the surfactants were measured as a function of the concentrations of surfactant and phospholipid and the composition of mixed surfactants. The solubilization limits of phospholipid by surfactants were determined from the change of their aggregation behavior in suspensions at equilibrium by means of quasi-elastic light scattering. The mixed surfactant solutions showed lower lytic activity than single component surfactant solution in spite of the strong adsorption onto the liposome surface. This was attributed to low solubilization power of binary mixture for phospholipid.  相似文献

The boundary region separating a latex particle from the surrounding medium has a great influence on the properties of latex dispersions. Four types of polystyrene and polystyrene/comonomer latices differing greatly in the structure of the boundary region were prepared. The first part of a series of papers reports on the preparation of the various latex dispersions. Mean particle sizes were obtained from simple turbidity measurements, quasi-elastic light scattering, and electron micrographs. The behavior of the particles in the centrifugal force field is a simple tool for detecting aggregation tendencies that are not directly related to salt stability. The BET-surface area agrees with the area calculated from the mean particle size when a sharp boundary and smooth surface is developed between the particle and the surrounding medium. In the case of particles with extended boundary regions (core/shell particles or particles with hairy envelopes), film formation reduces the specific surface area. Removal of soluble oligomers and polymers from the boundary region during subsequent treatments (purification and centrifugation before freeze-drying) can increase the surface area considerably.  相似文献

The physicochemical properties of the, - type (bolaform) surfactant, eicosane-1, 20-bis(triethylammonium bromide) (C20Et6), in aqueous solution have been investigated by means of surface tension, electrical conductivity, dye solubilization, and time-resolved fluorescence quenching (determination of average micelle aggregation number). Using electrical conductivity, the critical micelle concentration of C20Et6 was found to be 6.0×10–3 mol dm–3 and the ionization degree of C20Et6 micelle was found to be 0.42. From surface tension measurments, the molecular area of C20Et6 at the air-water interface was about twice that of normal type surfactants such as dodecyltrimethylammonium bromide (DTAB). The solubilizing power of micellar solution of C20Et6 toward Orange OT was 1.0×10–2 mole of dye per mole of surfactant, i. e., slightly smaller than that of DTAB. The micelle aggregation number,N, was found to be 17±2 by time-resolved fluorescence quenching. C20Et6 showed a very small temperature dependence ofN, much less than for normal surfactants.  相似文献

The solubilization behavior of oleyl alcohol by pure and mixtures of surfactants systems have been studied in terms of the maximum additive concentration (MAC), the solubilizing power, and the particle sizes of micelles with or without oleyl alcohol. The surfactants used are amphoteric (N,N-dimethyl-N-lauroyl lysine, DMLL; N,N,N-trimethyl-N-lauroyl lysine, TMLL; N,N-dimethyl-N-(carboxymethyl)-lauryl ammonium, DMCL), anionic (sodium dodecyl sulfate, SDS) and nonionic (alkyl polyoxyethylene ethers).The maximum additive concentration of oleyl alcohol by pure surfactants is larger by nonionic surfactants than by others.For a nonionic surfactant system mixed with DMLL, the mixing effect of surfactant on the increase in the MAC is not recognized. While, for DMLL mixed with SDS, the MAC becomes larger than that by pure surfactants. This may be attributed to the fact that the large micellar size will result in increasing the maximum additive concentration.  相似文献

Monolayers of two glycerol esters, 1-monooleoylglycerol and 1-monostearoylglycerol, were studied at the air-water interface in the 15–30C temperature range.From the experimental isotherms (surface pressure vs area and surface potential vs area) the surface phases of the esters were inferred.The miscibility between the two esters was discussed in relationship to the interfacial orientations and distributions and to the surface phases of the esters.The results obtained supported and strengthened the empirical rule on miscibility previously found [1–7], i.e., for non-ionic compounds the same interfacial orientation of the hydrophobic chains is required in order to have bidimensional miscibility between the components.  相似文献

A process, similar to conventional emulsion polymerisation, is described by which sterically stabilised polymer dispersions are made in water alone. Ionic initiators and surfactants are replaced by non-ionic species, and a copolymerisable stabilising macromonomer is also used. The dispersions have good stability to solvent addition, high shear rates and freeze-thaw cycling; however, the effectiveness of stabilisation depends on the nature of both the monomers and the macromonomers.  相似文献

Measurements of counterion binding in mixtures of surfactant aqueous solutions have been performed to study the structure of the anionic/cationic mixed micelle/solution interface. The mixtures studied were SDS/DDAC and STS/TDPC. The binding of chloride and sodium ions to mixed anionic/cationic micelles was measured using ion-specific electrodes. Counterion binding was found to be strongly dependent on the molar ratio of surfactants present. The mixed micelle/solution interface includes the headgroups of both surfactants and counterions of surfactant in excess. The addition of oppositely charged surfactant caused an increasing dissociation of counterions.  相似文献

A series of homologous gemini surfactants possessing identical hydrophobic chains but different ionic head groups (cationic, anionic, zwitterionic) were synthesized, and their aqueous solution properties were examined. The results showed that the surface activities of gemini surfactants are superior to those of corresponding conventional monomeric surfactants, and molecular arrangements of gemini surfactants at the air-water interface are tighter than those of corresponding conventional surfactants. It was also found that zwitterionic gemini surfactant possesses the highest surface activity among the three surfactants. The behavior at the air-water interface is closely related to the molecular structural features of surfactants, which provide an indication for synthesizing highly-efficient surfactants.   相似文献

Abstract  Polymerizable amphiphilic organophosphorous compounds were synthesized and their self-aggregation behavior was investigated. The studied molecules contain a hydrophilic phosphorus end group, an alkyl chain spacer with a variable length from 3 to 11 CH2 groups and a polymerizable methacrylic group at the other chain end. Thus, the molecules represent a class of polymerizable surfactants. Two different reaction methods were used; either unsaturated alcohols or bromine-containing alcohols were applied as starting compounds for the preparation of the organophosphorous surfactants. The self-aggregation and micelle formation of the prepared compounds were investigated in aqueous solution by dynamic light scattering measurements. The critical micelle concentration of the P-containing amphiphiles was in all cases smaller than 0.040 mol/l and strongly dependent on the polarity of the phorphorous head group and the chain length of the spacer. Broadband dielectric spectroscopy is employed for the first time to study the molecular dynamics in discotic liquid crystalline polymers. One dielectric relaxation process is found which is strongly broadened and asymmetric. It is assigned a local hindered rotation of the ester groups attaching the spacer to the discotic mesogen. Two optically active cationic surfactants, (2S)-N-hexadecyl-N, N-dimethyl-(1-hydroxy-3-phenylpropyl)-2-ammonium chloride 1 and (2S)-N-hexadecyl-N,N-dimethyl-(1-hydroxy-4-methylpentyl)-2-ammonium chloride 2, have been selected and synthesized for use as enantioselective micellar catalysts in aqueous media. Their surface and aggregation behavior has been investigated at 298 K using surface tension and light scattering studies, which revealed that both molecules associate at low concentrations to produce micellar aggregates. Interestingly, although the area per molecule occupied by the surfactants at the air-water interface (43.6 ?(2) for 1 and 54.6 ?(2) for 2) is similar to that of related cationic surfactants, their aggregation number (23 for 1 and 19 for 2) is much smaller, perhaps reflecting the influence of the size or homochiral nature of the head group in the packing of the micelle. It is now well known that enthalpy relaxation measurements can be used to establish polymer-polymer blend phase behavior when the glass transition temperatures of the two polymers are virtually coincident. In the most simple cases, the aging kinetics of an immiscible blend will be representative of the pure polymers superimposed upon each other. However, in many cases the situation is more complicated because of the presence of interface material. In this paper the relation between enthalpy recovery peak separation, domain size and interface thickness is considered. The discussion is based on relaxation experiments involving di-block copolymers of styrene and 2-vinyl pyridine, blends of polystyrene and poly(2-vinyl pyridine) and blends of poly(vinyl chloride) and poly(isopropyl methacrylate). If the amount of material in the interface is too large due to either a small average domain size or a thick interface no peak separation will occur. The first situation is found for the microphase separated block copolymer system whereas the second possibility occurs for blends of polymers which are on the verge of miscibility like poly(vinyl chloride) and poly(isopropyl methacrylate).Presented in part at the Sixth International Seminar on Polymer Physics Relaxation in Polymers, Gomadingen, October 3–8, 1988, F.R.G.  相似文献

The structure of the adsorption layer at the solid/gas interface is characterized, as a function of conditioning concentration, by the measurement of preceding contact angles. The contact angles were determined tensiometrically (plate method) and cinema tographically (capillary rise method) in the system glass or mercury/n-dodecyl ammonium chloride solution/air, respectively. In the dependence of contact angle on concentration, four regions are provable. These regions correlate with the surfactants, which are bound to adsorption in a heteropolar mode or by van der Waals forces of interaction, with the formation of layer-like coverage and with bilayers. Special attention was given to the fact that loosely bound surfactants are transferred from the solid/gas interface to the liquid/gas interface and cause a reduction of the preceding contact angle.Publication No. 1077 from the Research Institut of Mineral Processing, Academy of Sciences of the GDR, Freiberg, G.D.R.  相似文献
