It is known that an arbitrary function in the open unit disk can have at most countable set of ambiguous points. Point ζ on the unit circle is an ambiguous point of a function if there exist two Jordan arcs, lying in the unit ball, except the endpoint ζ, such that cluster sets of function along these arcs are disjoint. We investigate whether it is possible to modify the notion of ambiguous point to keep the analogous result true for functions defined in the n-dimensional Euclidean unit ball.  相似文献

An abstract formulation of generalized multiresolution analyses is presented, and those GMRAs that come from multiwavelets are characterized. Let χ(S r n?1 )) be the minimum number of colours needed to colour the points of a sphere S r n?1 of radius $r \geqslant \tfrac{1} {2}$ in ? n so that any two points at the distance 1 apart receive different colours. In 1981 P. Erd?s conjectured that χ(S r n?1 )→∞ for all $r \geqslant \tfrac{1} {2}$ . This conjecture was proved in 1983 by L. Lovász who showed in [11] that χ(S r n?1 ) ≥ n. In the same paper, Lovász claimed that if $r < \sqrt {\frac{n} {{2n + 2}}}$ , then χ(S r n?1 ) ≤ n+1, and he conjectured that χ(S r n?1 ) grows exponentially, provided $r \geqslant \sqrt {\frac{n} {{2n + 2}}}$ . In this paper, we show that Lovász’ claim is wrong and his conjecture is true: actually we prove that the quantity χ(S r n?1 ) grows exponentially for any $r > \tfrac{1} {2}$ .  相似文献

The notion of structural dimension of -convex sets is introduced. The spiral connectedness of sections and projections of these sets, as well as of the complements of these sections and projections is established. Examples refining L. A. We use ergodic theoretic tools to solve a classical problem in geometric Ramsey theory. LetE be a measurable subset of ℝ m , with . LetV = {0,v 1,...,v k} ⊂ ℝm. We show that fort large enough, we can find an isometric copy oftV arbitrarily close toE. We derive a three-term asymptotic expansion for the expected lifetime of Brownian motion and for the torsional rigidity on thin domains in ? n , and a two-term expansion for the maximum (and corresponding maximizer) of the expected lifetime. The approach is similar to that which we used previously to study the eigenvalues of the Dirichlet Laplacian and consists of scaling the domain in one direction and deriving the corresponding asymptotic expansions as the scaling parameter goes to zero. Apart from being dominated by the one-dimensional Brownian motion along the direction of the scaling, we also see that the symmetry of the perturbation plays a role in the expansion. As in the case of eigenvalues, these expansions may also be used to approximate the exit time for domains where the scaling parameter is not necessarily close to zero.  相似文献

This paper studies a natural n-dimensional generalization of the classical nonholonomic Chaplygin sphere problem. We prove that for a specific choice of the inertia operator, the restriction of the generalized problem onto a zero value of the SO(n−1)-momentum mapping becomes an integrable Hamiltonian system after an appropriate time reparametrization.  相似文献

We use a new approach that we call unification to prove that standard weighted double bubbles in n-dimensional Euclidean space minimize immiscible fluid surface energy, that is, surface area weighted by constants. The result is new for weighted area, and also gives the simplest known proof to date of the (unit weight) double bubble theorem (Hass et al., Electron. Res. Announc. Am. Math. Soc., 1(3):98–102, 1995; Hutchings et al., Ann. Math., 155(2):459–489, 2002; Reichardt, J. Geom. Anal., 18(1):172–191, 2008). As part of the proof, we introduce a striking new symmetry argument for showing that a minimizer must be a surface of revolution.  相似文献

As it is well-known, the generalization of the classical Cauchy-Riemann system to higher dimensions leads to the so-called Riesz and Moisil-Teodorescu systems. Rewriting these systems in quaternionic language and taking advantage of the underlying algebra, we construct complete sets of polynomials solutions of both systems that are orthonormal with respect to a certain inner product. The restrictions of those polynomials to the unit sphere can be viewed as analogues to the complex case of the Fourier exponential functions $\{e^{i n \theta}\}_{n\geq 0}$ on the unit circle and constitute a refinement of the well-known spherical harmonics.  相似文献

The characteristics of cookie-cutter sets in ℝd are investigated. A Bowen's formula for the Hausdorff dimension of a cookie-cutter set in terms of the pressure function is derived. The existence of self-similar measures, conformal measures and Gibbs measures on cookie-cutter sets is proved. The dimension spectrum of each of these measures is analyzed. In addition, the locally uniformly α-dimensional condition and the fractal Plancherel Theorem for these measures are shown. Finally, the existence of order-two density for the Hausdorff measure of a cookie-cutter set is proved. This project is supported by the National Natural Science Foundation of China.  相似文献

Biharmonic functions are defined on Euclidean spaces, Riemannian manifolds, infinite trees, and more generally on abstract harmonic spaces. In this note, we consider biharmonic functions b defined on annular sets Ω \ K and obtain Laurent-type decompositions for b in the Euclidean spaces and in infinite trees. We define the Polish space R of non-degenerate rank-1 systems. Each non-degenerate rank-1 system can be viewed as a measure-preserving transformation of an atomless, σ-finite measure space and as a homeomorphism of a Cantor space. We completely characterize when two non-degenerate rank-1 systems are topologically isomorphic. We also analyze the complexity of the topological isomorphism relation on R, showing that it is \({F_\sigma }\) as a subset of R× R and bi-reducible to E0. We also explicitly describe when a non-degenerate rank-1 system is topologically isomorphic to its inverse.  相似文献

A complex Radon measure μ on ℝ n is said to be of at most exponential-quadratic growth if there exist positive constants C and α such that . Let Xexp denote the space of all complex Radon measure on ℝ n of at most exponential-quadratic growth. Using elementary methods, we obtain injectivity sets for spherical means for Xexp. In this article, we compute the first space of cohomology of Vect (? n|n ), the Lie superalgebra of vector fields on the supermanifold ? n|n with coefficients in 𝒻 (? n|n ), the space of smooth functions on ? n|n .
