Summary Most accretion disk models do assume Keplerian rotation as the ?natural? one. This is not so obvious and is somewhat aprioristic, as shown by some attempts to follow different approaches. In the present work we suggest a new approach to the problem, pointing out that the disk structure is deeply related to the balance between the magnetic energy produced by dynamo action and the rotational energy associated with the accreting flow. This balance, together with the conservation laws, allows us to derive analytically the angular-velocity field, the radial velocity field and the magnetic-energy distribution inside the disk. As far as the disk X-ray emission is concerned, we adopt the point of view that the buoyancy and emergence at the disk surface of the azimuthal magnetic field generated by differential rotation gives rise to looplike structures in a hot magnetically confined corona, which is not merely overimposed, as in other models, but ?naturally? fits to the disk structure. The magnetic-energy dissipation into the coronal medium, which sustains the X-ray luminosity, is due to twisting of the magnetic loops. we give an exact analytical expression for the integrated luminosityL x in terms of the mass of the compact object, the accretion rate, the disk size and rotational velocity, and show that in the limitr ir e (wherer i andr e are the inner and the outer radius of the accretion disk, respectively) it agrees fairly well with the characteristic observed values of both galactic and extragalactic strong compact sources, within the reasonable range commonly accepted for the relevant parameters. Deconfinement phase transition and condensation of Goldstone bosons in neutron star matter are investigated in a chiral hadronic model (also referred as to the FST model) for the hadronic phase (HP) and in the color-flavor-locked (CFL) quark model for the deconfined quark phase. It is shown that the hadronic-CFL mixed phase (MP) exists in the center of neutron stars with a small bag constant, while the CFL quark matter cannot appear in neutron stars when a large bag constant is taken. Color superconductivity softens the equation of state (EOS) and decreases the maximum mass of neutron stars compared with the unpaired quark matter. The K0 condensation in the CFL phase has no remarkable contribution to the EOS and properties of neutron star matter. The EOS and the properties of neutron star matter are sensitive to the bag constant B, the strange quark mass ms and the color superconducting gap Δ. Increasing B and ms or decreasing Δ can stiffen the EOS which results in the larger maximum masses of neutron stars.  相似文献

The nucleus of 208Pb, a system 18 orders of magnitude smaller and 55 orders of magnitude lighter than a neutron star, may be used as a miniature surrogate to establish important correlations between its neutron skin and several neutron-star properties. Indeed, models with a thicker neutron skin in 208Pb generate larger neutron stars that have a lower liquid-to-solid transition density. Further, we illustrate how the correlation between the neutron skin in 208Pb and the radius of a 1.4 solar-mass neutron star may be used to place important constraints on the equation of state of neutron-rich matter and how it may help elucidate the existence of a phase transition at the core of the star.  相似文献

The Keplerian velocity as well as those frequencies at which instability against gravitational radiation-reaction sets in are calculated for rotating neutron star models of gravitational mass 1.5M . The investigation is based on four different, realistic neutron star matter equations of state. Our results indicate that the gravitational radiation instability sets in wellbelow (i.e., 63–71% of) the Keplerian frequency, and thatyoung neutron stars are limited to rotational periods greater than about 1 ms. In young and therefore hot (T1010 K) neutron stars them=5(±1) modes and in old stars after being spun up and reheated by mass accretion, them=4 and/orm=3 modes may set the limit on stable rotation.Dedicated to Prof. Dr. H.J. We present the first Chandra X-ray observations of the H2O megamaser galaxy Mrk1210 (UGC4203), a Seyfert 2 galaxy at an approximate distance of D ~ 57.6 Mpc. The Chandra X-ray image, with by far the highest angular resolution (~1″), displays an unresolved compact core toward the nuclear region of Mrk1210. Comparisons with the previous X-ray observations in the nuclear emission and the spectral shape indicate a fairly stable phase between 2001 (BeppoSAX and XMM-Newton) and 2004 (Chandra) after a dramatic variation since 1995 (ASCA). The best-fit model of Chandra X-ray spectrum consists of two components. The soft scattered component can be best fitted by a moderately absorbed power-law model adding a spectral line at ~0.9 keV (possibly a Ne-Kα fluorescent line), while the hard nuclear component can be well reproduced by a heavily absorbed power-law model (N H ~ 2×1023 cm?2) with an additional line at ~6.19 keV (close to the Fe-Kα fluorescent line). The derived absorption-corrected X-ray luminosity implies that the dramatic variation of spectral properties is caused by significant changes of the absorbing column density along the line-of-sight, while the intrinsic nuclear X-ray luminosity remains stable. In this case, the absorbers should be anisotropic and its size can be constrained to be less than 0.0013 pc. In addition, we also estimate the mass of central engine, the disk radius and the accretion rate of the accretion disk to be 107.12±0.31 M , ~1 pc and 0.006, respectively.

The equation of state of hot neutrino opaque interior matter of the neutron star and some of its properties such as the free energy, effective mass, adiabatic index, and temperature are calculated along both isothermal and isentropic paths with the AV 18 and AV 14 potentials using the lowest order constrained variational method. We have shown that the calculated equation of state with the AV 18 potential is harder than with the AV 14 potential. It is found that there is no phase transition in the hot neutrino opaque interior matter of the neutron star. We have shown that for all values of density and entropy, the adiabatic index of neutron star matter is greater than . It is shown that our calculated equations of state obey the causality condition.  相似文献

Summary By using a fully relativistic model for the spectral line produced by a Keplerian disk orbiting a Schwarzschild black hole, we study the temporal behaviour of the line intensity in response to a continuum variation at an extended central source. We compare our results with the observed properties of the Seyfert galaxy NGC 6814, whose X-ray flux has been observed to decrease by a factor of two in ≈ 50 s, while the iron line intensity variations lag continuum variations by 250 s, at the most. Taking the stationary values of the iron line centroid energy and width, and assuming that the line comes from high-ionisation stages of iron (as several indications suggest) we derive that the inner radius of the line-emitting region is between 6 and 30r g (r g =GM/c 2), the inclination is ≤40°, while the mass of the central object is constrained to 8·104 L 43<M<3.9·106 M (L 43 is the accretion luminosity in units of 1043 erg s−1). We consider the possible evolution of the rotation period and magnetic field of the X-ray source RX J0720.4-3125, assuming that this source is an isolated neutron star accreting from the interstellar medium. The magnetic field of the source is estimated to be 106–109 G (the most probable value is about 2·108 G), and it is difficult to explain the observed rotational period 8.38 s without invoking the hypothesis of magnetic field decay. For calculations we used the model of ohmic dissipation of the field in the core of the neutron star. Estimates for the accretion rate (10?14–10?16 M/yr), velocity of the source through the interstellar medium (10–50 km/s), and neutron star age (2·109–1010 yrs) are obtained.  相似文献

The interaction of ultrashort laser pulses with solid state targets is studied concerning the production of short X-ray pulses with photon energies up to about 10 keV. The influence of various parameters such as pulse energy, repetition rate of the laser system, focusing conditions, the application of prepulses, and the chirp of the laser pulses on the efficiency of this highly nonlinear process is examined. In order to increase the X-ray flux, the laser pulse energy is increased by a 2nd multipass amplifier from 750 μJ to 5 mJ. By applying up to 4 mJ of the pulse energy a X-ray flux of 4×1010 Fe K α photons/s or 2.75×1010 Cu K α photons/s are generated. The energy conversion efficiency is therefore calculated to η Fe≈1.4×10−5 and η Cu≈1.0×10−5. The X-ray source size is determined to 15×25 μm2. By focusing the produced X-rays using a toroidally bent crystal a quasi-monochromatic X-ray point source with a diameter of 56 μm×70μm is produced containing ≈104 Fe K α1 photons/s which permits the investigation of lattice dynamics on a picosecond or even sub-picosecond time scale. The lattice movement of a GaAs(111) crystal is shown as a typical application.  相似文献

Summary In the framework of an experiment of search for fast pulsars inside the error boxes of the COS-B gamma-ray sources, a special effort has been done to observe with the best possible sensitivity the X-ray source 1E0630+178 believed to be a neutron star on the basis of the high ratioL x /L o between X-ray and optical luminosity. The object, which is located inside the error box of the gamma-ray source 2CG195+04 (Geminga) was observed at 318, 430, 1387 and 1414 MHz with long integration times and low sampling rate. The most sensible observation is that at 430 MHz for which a limiting flux threshold of 0.6 mJy has been reached for periods down to 2 ms. The power spectrum does not indicate the presence of any pulsation effect and so is, at slightly higher limiting flux thresholds, for all other frequencies. Using observations in the past four years with the All Sky Monitor (ASM) onboard the Rossi X-ray Timing Explorer (RXTE) and the Burst Alert Telescope (BAT) onboard the Swift, we demonstrate that the hard state and the soft state are the primary spectral states in galactic black hole and neutron star X-ray binaries. In addition, we show quantitatively the preference of the two spectral states for each of the 22 bright persistent sources.

In this work we study the effect of the symmetry energy on several properties of neutron stars. First, we discuss its effect on the density, proton fraction and pressure of the neutron star crust-core transition. We show that whereas the first two quantities present a clear correlation with the slope parameter L of the symmetry energy, no satisfactory correlation is seen between the transition pressure and L . However, a linear combination of the slope and curvature parameters at ρ = 0.1 fm?3 is well correlated with the transition pressure. In the second part we analyze the effect of the symmetry energy on the pasta phase. It is shown that the size of the pasta clusters, number of nucleons and the cluster proton fraction depend on the density dependence of the symmetry energy: a small L gives rise to larger clusters. The influence of the equation of state at subsaturation densities on the extension of the inner crust of the neutron star is also discussed. Finally, the effect of the density dependence of the symmetry energy on the strangeness content of neutron stars is studied in the last part of the work. It is found that charged (neutral) hyperons appear at smaller (larger) densities for smaller values of the slope parameter L. A linear correlation between the radius and the strangeness content of a star with a fixed mass is also found.  相似文献

We study the accretion process in the thin disk around a squashed Kaluza-Klein black hole and probe the effects of the extra dimensional scale ρ0 on the physical properties of the disk. Our results show that with the increase of the parameter ρ0, the energy flux, the conversion efficiency, the radiation temperature, the spectra luminosity and the spectra cut-off frequency of the thin accretion disk decrease, but the inner border of the disk increases. This implies that the extra dimension scale imprints in the mass accretion process in the disk.  相似文献

The magnetic susceptibility of neutron matter was calculated by means of Owen's LOCV method. The results showed that a transition to a ferromagnetic state can exist for HJ, IY and M-S potentials, but there is no transition for Reid soft-core potential .By analyses, we concluded that the ferromagnetic state is a possible origin of strong magnetic field within the neutron star. We also considered an influence of the ferromagnetic state on the mass, radius and moment of inertia of the neutron star. Finally we discussed the effect of magnetization on physical state in the neutron star.  相似文献

A method is proposed to deduce the shell correction energy corresponding to the fission transition state shape of nuclei in the mass region around 200, from an analysis of the first chance fission values of the ratio of fission to neutron widths, (Γ f n )1. The method is applied to the typical case of the fissioning nucleus212Po, formed by alpha bombardment of208Pb. For the calculation of the neutron width, the level densities of the daughter nucleus after neutron emission were obtained from a numerical calculation starting from shell model single particle energy level scheme. It is shown that with the use of standard Fermi gas expression for the level densities of the fission transition state nucleus in the calculation of the fission width, an apparent energy dependence of the fission barrier height is required to fit the experimental data. This energy dependence, which arises from the excitation energy dependence of shell effects on level densities, can be used to deduce the shell correction energy at the fission transition state point. It is found that in the case of212Po, the energy of the actual transition state point is higher than the energy of the liquid drop model (LDM) saddle point by (3 ± 1) MeV, implying significant positive shell correction energy at the fission transition state. Further, the liquid drop model value of level density parametera is found to be a few per cent smaller for the saddle point shape as compared to its spherical shape.  相似文献

The nuclear symmetry energy is intimately connected with nuclear astrophysics. This contribution focuses on the estimation of the symmetry energy from experiment and how it is related to the structure of neutron stars. The most important connection is between the radii of neutron stars and the pressure of neutron star matter in the vicinity of the nuclear saturation density ns. This pressure is essentially controlled by the nuclear symmetry energy parameters Sv and L , the first two coefficients of a Taylor expansion of the symmetry energy around ns. We discuss constraints on these parameters that can be found from nuclear experiments. We demonstrate that these constraints are largely model-independent by deriving them qualitatively from a simple nuclear model. We also summarize how recent theoretical studies of pure neutron matter can reinforce these constraints. To date, several different astrophysical measurements of neutron star radii have been attempted. Attention is focused on photospheric radius expansion bursts and on thermal emissions from quiescent low-mass X-ray binaries. While none of these observations can, at the present time, determine individual neutron star radii to better than 20% accuracy, the body of observations can be used with Bayesian techniques to effectively constrain them to higher precision. These techniques invert the structure equations and obtain estimates of the pressure-density relation of neutron star matter, not only near ns, but up to the highest densities found in neutron star interiors. The estimates we derive for neutron star radii are in concordance with predictions from nuclear experiment and theory.  相似文献

An analytical method of estimating the mass of a stellar iron core, just prior to core collapse, is described in this paper. The method employed depends, in part, upon an estimate of the true relativistic mass increase experienced by electrons within a highly compressed iron core, just prior to core collapse, and is significantly different from a more typical Chandrasekhar mass limit approach. This technique produced a maximum stellar iron core mass value of 269 × 1030 kg (1.35 solar masses). This mass value is very near to the typical mass values found for neutron stars in a recent survey of actual neutron star masses. Although slightly lower and higher neutron star masses may also be found, lower mass neutron stars are believed to be formed as a result of enhanced iron core compression due to the weight of non-ferrous matter overlying the iron cores within large stars. And, higher mass neutron stars are likely to be formed as a result of fallback or accretion of additional matter after an initial collapse event involving an iron core having a mass no greater than 2.69 × 1030 kg

A powder X-ray diffraction study, combined with magnetic susceptibility and electric transport measurements, was performed on a series of LnCoO3 perovskites (Ln = Y, Dy, Gd, Sm, Nd, Pr and La) over a temperature range 100–1000 K. A non-standard temperature dependence of the observed thermal expansion was modelled as a sum of three contributions: (1) weighted sum of lattice expansions of the cobaltite in the diamagnetic low spin state and in the intermediate (IS) or high (HS) spin state. (2) An anomalous expansion due to the increasing population of excited (IS or HS) states of Co3+ ions over the course of the diamagnetic-paramagnetic transition. (3) An anomalous expansion due to excitations of Co3+ ions to another paramagnetic state accompanied by an insulator-metal transition. The anomalous expansion is governed by parameters that are found to vary linearly with the Ln ionic radius. In the case of the first magnetic transition it is the energy splitting E between the ground low spin state and the excited state, presumably the intermediate spin state. The energy splitting E, determined by a fit to magnetic susceptibility, decreases with temperature. The values of E determined for LaCoO3 and YCoO3 at T=0 K are 164 K and 2875 K respectively, which fall to zero at T=230 K for LaCoO3 and 860 K for YCoO3. The second anomalous expansion connected with a simultaneous magnetic and insulator-metal transition is characterized by its center at T=535 K for LaCoO3 and 800 K for YCoO3. The change of the unit cell volume during each transition is independent of the Ln cation and is about 1% in both cases.  相似文献
