The inclusive cross sections for production of prompt photons and π0 s by 280 GeV/c protons incident on a liquid hydrogen target, have been measured forp T in the range 4.0 to 6.5 GeV/c and for |x F |<0.45. A quantitative comparison of the prompt photon cross section with next-to-leading order QCD predictions using Duke and Owens structure functions is performed. Phenomenological fits to the π0 and prompt photon cross sections are given. 相似文献

The structure of events associated with the production of direct photons in π? p, π+ p andpp reactions of 280 GeV/c has been studied using data from the WA 70 experiment at the CERN SPS. Results are presented on the distributions of the fractional momenta of the colliding partons and on the fragmentation of the recoil jet and a comparison is made with predictions using the structure functions of Duke and Owens in the Lund Monte Carlo with string fragmentation. 相似文献

We report results on event-by-event fluctuations of transverse momentum, Phi(p(t)), in pi(+)p and K(+)p collisions at 250 GeV/c. For the first time, their dependence on rapidity region, transverse momentum acceptance, multiplicity, mean transverse momentum per event, and on the correlation between transverse momentum and multiplicity are systematically presented. The results are compared with those from the PYTHIA Monte Carlo generator. The fluctuations under the same acceptance cuts as used in current heavy-ion experiments are also presented. 相似文献

Results on high transverse momentum charged particle emission with respect to the reaction plane are presented for Au + Au collisions at square root s(NN)=200 GeV. Two- and four-particle correlations results are presented as well as a comparison of azimuthal correlations in Au + Au collisions to those in p + p at the same energy. The elliptic anisotropy v(2) is found to reach its maximum at p(t) approximately 3 GeV/c, then decrease slowly and remain significant up to p(t) approximately 7-10 GeV/c. Stronger suppression is found in the back-to-back high-p(t) particle correlations for particles emitted out of plane compared to those emitted in plane. The centrality dependence of v(2) at intermediate p(t) is compared to simple models based on jet quenching. 相似文献

We present the results of the study of interaction of the relativistic 6Li nucleus with the momentum 4.5 GeV/c per nucleon with the photoemulsion. Yields of the 1H (3He) and 2H (4He) isotopes due to the fragmentation of 6Li are found to be almost equal. Cross sections for the charge exchange and pickup reactions are found to be σexch=9±2 mb. The distributions of the fragment transverse momenta projected onto the emulsion plane are used to obtain the nucleon
Fermi momentum of 6Li, PF, this value being equal to 129±8 MeV/c. The high momentum component in the transverse momentum distributions of 3He and 4He isotopes is observed.

A systematic study of neutral meson production in heavy-ion reactions at 2 GeV/u was started with a12C+12C experiment using the photon spectrometer TAPS. Special emphasis is put on the possible observation of the-meson in a heavy-ion reaction exploiting the decay channel 0.Presented at the International School-Workshop Relativistic Heavy-Ion Physics, Prague (Czech Republic), 19–23 September 1994. 相似文献

Using data from the Fermilab fixed target experiment E665, general properties of forward produced charged hadrons in μp interactions at a primary muon energy of 470 GeV are investigated. The normalized inclusive singleparticle distributions for Feynman-x D(xF ) and for the transverse momentum D(p 2 t , xF ) are measured as a function of W and Q 2. The dependence of the average transverse momentum squared 〈p 2 t〉 on xF , W and Q 2 is studied. The increasing contribution from diffractive production as Q 2 decreases leads to a reduction of the average charged hadron multiplicities at low (positive) xF and an enhancement at large xF , for Q 2 ? 10 GeV2. It also reduces 〈p 2 t〉 for Q2 ? 5 GeV2 and 0.4 ? xF < 1.0. 相似文献

The photoproduction of large transverse momentum mesons is examined in a leading particle model using the techniques of the covariant parton model. In the leading particle model the large-pT meson is produced in a high-energy, wide-angle scattering: γ + q → M + q. Numerical results such as inclusive cross sectioons, angular distributions and particle ratios are presented for the pseudoscalar mesons. The Landshoff-Polking-horne quark-fusion model is then applied to the production of large transverse momentum photons and leptons in proton-proton collisions. In the lepton case this model differs from the usual Drell-Yan mechanism in that the lepton pair has a small invariant mass but comes from a large-pT virtual photon. 相似文献

Transverse momentum spectra of pi+/-, p, and p up to 12 GeV/c at midrapidity in centrality selected Au + Au collisions at square root sNN=200 GeV are presented. In central Au + Au collisions, both pi +/- and p(p) show significant suppression with respect to binary scaling at pT approximately >4 GeV/c. Protons and antiprotons are less suppressed than pi+/-, in the range 1.5 approximately < pT approximately < 6 GeV/c. The pi-/pi+ and p/p ratios show at most a weak pT dependence and no significant centrality dependence. The p/pi ratios in central Au + Au collisions approach the values in p + p and d + Au collisions at pT approximately >5 GeV/c. The results at high pT indicate that the partonic sources of pi+/-, p, and p have similar energy loss when traversing the nuclear medium. 相似文献
