This analysis extends the development and testing of a probabilistic model of noise annoyance proposed in an earlier paper [1]. In the model, noise, measured as the level and number of specific events, leads to annoyance through its interference with activities. Testing of the model is based on noise and survey data collected at 56 sites around Toronto International Airport. Logit analysis is used to estimate equations to predict the probabilities of activity interference and annoyance due to road traffic noise and aircraft noise at each site. From these equations, probabilities of high annoyance are predicted and are compared with the proportion of respondents at each site reporting being highly annoyed. For this comparison, the sites are grouped on the basis of having the same 24 hour Leq. Both predicted and reported annoyance values are consistently higher for aircraft noise than for road traffic noise at the same 24 hour Leq. The results support the underlying argument of the model that previously reported source differences in dose-response relationships can be explained by using a model based on single event rather than daily average noise measures.  相似文献

Path analysis was applied to data obtained in social surveys in Kumamoto and Sapporo, Japan, and Gothenburg, Sweden, to cross-culturally compare the causal models that describe the multiple stratum relationships between road traffic noise annoyance and endogenous and exogenous variables. Path models can estimate not only the direct effect of a variable on annoyance but also the indirect effect of the variable via other variables. The exogenous variables were selected from housing, personal and environmental factors, and the endogenous variables were selected from various activity disturbances and related effects, based on the results of correlation coefficients between variables and discrimination by factor analysis. An a priori path model was constructed at the start of the analysis and the structure equations for the endogenous variables were formulated. The standardized partial regression coefficients are called path coefficients and show the strength of the linkage between variables. A revised path model was constructed by deleting insignificant paths. The characteristics of annoyance responses were as follows: (1) annoyance caused by exhaust has the strongest relation to noise annoyance and (2) structures of noise annoyance were different between Japan and Sweden and between housing types, probably owing to differences in lifestyle.  相似文献

Installed global wind power increased by 26% during 2003, with U.S and Europe accounting for 90% of the cumulative capacity. Little is known about wind turbines' impact on people living in their vicinity. The aims of this study were to evaluate the prevalence of annoyance due to wind turbine noise and to study dose-response relationships. Interrelationships between noise annoyance and sound characteristics, as well as the influence of subjective variables such as attitude and noise sensitivity, were also assessed. A cross-sectional study was performed in Sweden in 2000. Responses were obtained through questionnaires (n = 351; response rate 68.4%), and doses were calculated as A-weighted sound pressure levels for each respondent. A statistically significant dose-response relationship was found, showing higher proportion of people reporting perception and annoyance than expected from the present dose-response relationships for transportation noise. The unexpected high proportion of annoyance could be due to visual interference, influencing noise annoyance, as well as the presence of intrusive sound characteristics. The respondents' attitude to the visual impact of wind turbines on the landscape scenery was found to influence noise annoyance.  相似文献

本文以烦恼度为主观反应指标,采用三种5级程度衡量尺度,对西安市内三条主要干道和两类典型交叉口附近区域内的道路交通噪声进行了烦恼度问卷调查。此次调查针对人口统计学因素(性别、年龄、文化程度、身体健康状况)上的个体差异与等级描述词不同的程度尺度可能对道路交通噪声烦恼度调查结果的影响,以及特定路况条件下的噪声烦恼度与不同机动车辆的行驶噪声烦恼度展开了研究。通过对调查数据的分析处理,发现并初步总结出:与选取不同的烦恼度尺度相比,人口统计学因素对调查结果的影响更加显著;人口统计学因素与特定路况条件下的噪声烦恼度及不同机动车辆的行驶噪声烦恼度无明显相关;但不同机动车辆的行驶噪声烦恼度不同,实际研究中需对摩托车噪声加以重视并区别对待。  相似文献

A laboratory study has been carried out to examine the relationships between annoyance and the level of road noise made up of background noise with emergent noisy truck passages. The annoyance caused to test persons was examined in experimental situations for periods of 30 minutes. There were two independent variables: the number of truck passages varied from three to 30, and the categories of overall noise level (Leq for road noise) were 50, 55 and 60 dB(A). Generally, the results showed that for a constant Leq level, annoyance increases with the number of truck passages as far as a certain threshold, where it tends to stabilize; for a constant number of truck passages, the annoyance increases with the Leq level. It is found that although the index Leq is a better criterion of annoyance than the number of truck passages a composite index with the general form αLeq + β log N nevertheless appears to be more reliable in predictions.  相似文献

The acute annoyance reaction to different noise sources (lorries, aircraft, mopeds and trains) was investigated in a laboratory experiment. Students were exposed to different noise climates at noise levels 70 and 80 dB(A) for 25 minutes, and their reactions were subsequently assessed by using a questionnaire. Their general sensitivity to noise was also evaluated. The results demonstrated that Leq gave the best correlation with annoyance. However, lorry noise was found to be less disturbing than aircraft noise at the same Leq value. This was more pronounced if the different noises were compared at equal peak dB(A) levels. The results suggest that other factors such as the irregularity of the noise or the individual experience of the noise are of importance for the annoyance reaction. A relationship was found between the general annoyance score and annoyance reactions in the laboratory. Questionnaires could thus be a suitable tool for identifying noise sensitive persons.  相似文献

While considering auditory-brain model for subjective responses, effects of spatial factors extracted from the interaural cross-correlation function (IACF) on annoyance of noise stimuli are examined. The previously developed indices to measure sound pressure levels (SPL) and frequency characteristics cannot fully explain the psychological effects of noise. In the first experiment, subjects judged their annoyance by changing fluctuations in the magnitude of interaural cross-correlation function (IACC) and the SPL. In the second, they judged their annoyance by changing fluctuations in the interaural time delay (τIACC) and the SPL. Results show that: (1) annoyance increased by increasing the fluctuations of IACC as well as the SPL, (2) annoyance increased by increasing the fluctuations of τIACC as well as the SPL.  相似文献

The results of a study on the relative annoyance by rail or road traffic noise in urban and rural areas are reported. Fourteen areas with rail and road traffic noise with differing levels of loudness (Leq) were investigated. The annoyance was assessed by means of a questionnaire. The analysis of the relationship between annoyance and Leq—performed separately for rail and road traffic noise—shows that the same amount of annoyance is reached for railway traffic noise at Leq levels 4–5 dB(A) higher than for road traffic noise (railway/traffic noise “bonus”). The estimation for the difference values vary for the different variables of annoyance. Furthermore, the difference levels tend to be higher in urban than in rural areas.  相似文献

Sound environment in a compartment of high-speed trains (Shinkansen) was examined in relation to speech communication and annoyance. Three experiments were conducted. In Experiment 1, the annoyance caused by the compartment noise was judged. In Experiment 2, both the compartment noise and the conversation were presented together and the annoyance of the combined sounds was judged. In Experiment 3, both sounds were presented and only the disturbance of conversation was judged. The results showed that: The annoyance of compartment noise showed good correlation with LAeq. The annoyance of the combination of the compartment noise (N) and the conversation (C) increased as C/N decreased. There was, however, a tendency that annoyance increased as C/N increased in some conditions. This suggests that there exists an optimum level of compartment noise at 50-60 dBA taking the level of conversation into consideration. The disturbance of the conversation increased as C/N increased. However, when the level of conversation became high, it was judged as being disturbing regardless of the level of compartment noise.  相似文献

The effects of railway noise on residents have been measured with a combined social survey (1453 respondents) and noise measurement survey (over 2000 noise measurements) at 403 locations in 75 study areas in Great Britain. In the analysis of the data methods have been used which take into account many typical noise survey problems including noise measurement errors, unique locality effects and the weakness of the noise annoyance relationship. Railway noise bothers 2% of the nation's population. Approximately 170 000 people live where railway noise levels are above 65 dB(A) 24 hour Leq. Annoyance increases steadily with noise level; thus there is no particular “acceptable” noise level. Railway noise is less annoying than aircraft or road traffic noise of equivalent noise level, at least above 50 to 65Leq. Noise is rated as the most serious environmental nuisance caused by railways. Maintenance noise is rated as a bigger problem than passing train noise. Vibration is the most important non-noise problem. Reactions to vibrations are related to distance from route, train speed and number of trains. The railway survey's highly stratified, probability sample design with many study areas makes it possible to evaluate the effects of area characteristics on reactions. The 24 h Leq dB(A) noise index is more closely related to annoyance than are other accepted noise indices examined. There is no support for ambient noise level or night-time corrections. Thirteen railway operation characteristics were examined. One, the type of traction, has a strong effect on reactions after controlling for Leq (overhead electrified routes are the equivalent of about 10 dB less annoying at high noise levels). Three indicators of railway ancillary noises and non-noise environmental nuisances affect annoyance but most operational characteristics have no effect. The effects of over 35 demographic, attitudinal and neighbourhood characteristics on annoyance are examined. Though most objective characteristics of neighbourhoods and respondents are not correlated with annoyance, three do decrease annoyance (older dwellings, older respondents, and life-time residence). The attitudes which affect annoyance with railway noise are not general ones about railways as transportation sources, but rather ones which are specific to the neighbourhood setting or to railways as environmental intrusions in the neighbourhood. Such attitudes often have less effect on annoyance at low noise levels. In such cases it is the reactions of the more annoyed types of people which are most closely related to noise level.  相似文献

Debate continues over differences in the dose-response functions used to predict the annoyance at different sources of transportation noise. This debate reflects the lack of an accepted model of noise annoyance in residential communities. In this paper a model is proposed which is focussed on activity interference as a central component mediating the relationship between noise exposure and annoyance. This model represents a departure from earlier models in two important respects. First, single event noise levels (e.g., maximum levels, sound exposure level) constitute the noise exposure variables in place of long-term energy equivalent measures (e.g., 24-hour Leq or Ldn). Second, the relationships within the model are expressed as probabilistic rather than deterministic equations. The model has been tested by using acoustical and social survey data collected at 57 sites in the Toronto region exposed to aircraft, road traffic or train noise. Logit analysis was used to estimate two sets of equations. The first predicts the probability of activity interference as a function of event noise level. Four types of interference are included: indoor speech, outdoor speech, difficulty getting to sleep and awakening. The second set predicts the probability of annoyance as a function of the combination of activity interferences. From the first set of equations, it was possible to estimate a function for indoor speech interference only. In this case, the maximum event level was the strongest predictor. The lack of significant results for the other types of interference is explained by the limitations of the data. The same function predicts indoor speech interference for all three sources—road, rail and aircraft noise. The results for the second set of equations show strong relationships between activity interference and the probability of annoyance. Again, the parameters of the logit equations are similar for the three sources. A trial application of the model predicts a higher probability of annoyance for aircraft than for road traffic situations with the same 24-hour Leq. This result suggests that the model may account for previously reported source differences in annoyance.  相似文献

This paper describes the development and testing of a path model of aircraft noise annoyance by using noise and social survey data collected in the vicinity of Toronto International Airport. Path analysis is used to estimate the direct and indirect effects of seventeen independent variables on individual annoyance. The results show that the strongest direct effects are for speech interference, attitudes toward aircraft operations, sleep interruption and personal sensitivity to noise. The strongest indirect effects are for aircraft Leq(24) and sensitivity. Overall the model explains 41% of the variation in the annoyance reported by the 673 survey respondents. The findings both support and extend existing statements in the literature on the antecedents of annoyance.  相似文献

A laboratory study was undertaken to investigate the relation between traffic noise and annoyance with special reference to the number of noisy events. Students were exposed to different noise conditions for 45 and 120 minutes whereafter their reactions were assessed using a questionnaire. The extent of annoyance was found to increase with augmenting LAq levels but only when the number of noisy events remained equal. At equal LAq levels an increased extent of annoyance was found when the number of noisy events increased from 1 to 15 per hour. The results point to certain limitations in the validity of the equal energy concept and to the usefulness of laboratory studies to investigate reactions to environmental noise.  相似文献

This paper summarizes the results from the 1975 British railway noise study. Noise from railways does cause annoyance and interfere with activities. People in Great Britain appear to find high levels of railway noise to be somewhat less annoying than high levels from other sources. Leq is as closely related to annoyance as any other index examined. Since annoyance increases steadily with noise level there is no particular “acceptable” railway noise level. Overhead electrified routes appear to be less annoying than diesel routes at the same noise levels. Through train noise, maintenance noise and vibration are the most widely noticed problems associated with railways in residential areas.  相似文献

A method is described of calculating the sound pressure level received from single, representative light and heavy vehicles after propagation over terrain composed of various combinations of hard ground and grass-land. These results are then used to derive correction contours for the attenuation with distance of the Leq level received from streams of each class of vehicle. The results apply to conditions where the boundary between the soft and hard areas is parallel to the traffic stream and the soft ground is on the receiver side. Various positions of the boundary are considered. A simple prediction method for Leq is developed, incorporating the distance corrections. Similar calculations are carried out for the attenuation with distance of the L10 noise index for a representative stream of vehicles. Based on these results simple prediction equations for the excess attenuation are proposed in terms of the receiver position and the proportion of soft ground below the propagation path.  相似文献

Annoyance due to low frequency noise is more qidespread than was at one time believed and case histories indicate that the annoyance is not predicted accurately by a dB(A) measurement. In this study the psychophysical magnitude estimation technique was used to determine if a predictor of low frequency noise annoyance, superior to the dB(A), could be found. Ten noise measures were considered and it was concluded tentatively that the dB(B) noise measure could be used to predict the annoyance due to levels of low frequency noise in the range 90–105 dB overall SPL.  相似文献

Studies of community annoyance caused by civil aircraft noise exposure were carried out in 18 areas around Gimpo and Gimhae international airports in order to accumulate social survey data and assess the relationship between aircraft noise levels and annoyance responses in Korea. WECPNL, adopted as the aircraft noise index in Korea, and the percentage of respondents who felt highly annoyed (%HA) have been used to assess the dose-response of aircraft noise. Aircraft noise levels were measured automatically by airport noise monitoring system, B&K type 3597. Social surveys were carried out to people living within 100 m of noise measurement points. The Questionnaire used in the survey contained demographic factors, noise annoyance, interference with daily activities and health-related symptoms. The question relating to the aircraft noise annoyance was answered on an 11-point numerical scale. The randomly selected respondents who were aged between 18 and 70 years completed the questionnaire by themselves. In total, 705 respondents participated in the questionnaire. The results show that WECPNL, noise metric considering characteristics of event and intrusive noise, is more reasonable than Ldn, noise metric considering total sound, to assess the effects of aircraft noise on health. It is also shown that the annoyance responses caused by aircraft noise in Korea seems higher than those reported in other countries.  相似文献

Surveys have shown that noise from wind turbines is perceived as annoying by a proportion of residents living in their vicinity, apparently at much lower noise levels than those inducing annoyance due to other environmental sources. The aim of the present study was to derive the exposure-response relationship between wind turbine noise exposure in L(den) and the expected percentage annoyed residents and to compare it to previously established relationships for industrial noise and transportation noise. In addition, the influence of several individual and situational factors was assessed. On the basis of available data from two surveys in Sweden (N=341, N=754) and one survey in the Netherlands (N=725), a relationship was derived for annoyance indoors and for annoyance outdoors at the dwelling. In comparison to other sources of environmental noise, annoyance due to wind turbine noise was found at relatively low noise exposure levels. Furthermore, annoyance was lower among residents who received economical benefit from wind turbines and higher among residents for whom the wind turbine was visible from the dwelling. Age and noise sensitivity had similar effects on annoyance to those found in research on annoyance by other sources.  相似文献

The development of the Shinkansen railway network in Japan has continued since 1964; however, associated noise and vibration have seriously affected communities located beside the lines. The Kyushu Shinkansen Line (KSL) was opened in 2011 and a second temporary conventional railway line (STL) was operated in 2012. The purpose of this study was to compare community responses to railway noise and vibration before and after the opening of these two lines. Socio-acoustic surveys were performed in Kumamoto from 2009 to 2012, where the conventional and Shinkansen lines are adjacent. The noise and vibration exposures were increased slightly after the opening of the KSL but decreased slightly after the opening of the STL. When multiple logistic regression analysis was applied using highly annoyed/annoyed as the dependent variable and using day–evening–night sound level (Lden) and a dummy variable of before or after the opening of the KSL as independent variables, high annoyance was not changed significantly but moderate annoyance decreased significantly following the opening. There was no significant difference in either high or moderate annoyance between the periods before and after the opening of the STL.  相似文献
