The frequency and temperature dependence of the complex shear modulus G* and tan δ of epoxide compositions with various fillers have been studied. Relaxation-time spectra of filled polymers with various fillers have been plotted by the Ninomi-Ferry method. The principles governing changes in the shape of the spectrum curves with increase in filler concentration have been observed, enabling conclusions to be drawn on the effect of the filler on the change in properties of a polymer matrix and the deformation conditions of the polymer layers between the filler particles.  相似文献

The effect of various finely dispersed filler particles differing in size, structure, and the chemical nature of the surface, on the hardness of one crystalline (polycaproamide) and two amorphous (polystyrene and polymethylmethacrylate) polymers has been experimentally investigated. The observed changes in hardness are related with a change in the structural order of the polymer under the influence of the filler and with the formation of structures of different strength by the fillers in the polymer.Kiev Shevchenko State University. A previous investigation [4] of the tear strength of filled systems based on SKS-85 butadiene-styrene copolymer over a broad temperature interval revealed a reversal of the reinforcing effect of fillers with a coefficient of thermal expansion different from that of the filled polymer. At Tg the strength of mixtures containing polymer fillers [Kapron (polycaprolactam) and cellophane powder] exceeds that of mixtures containing chalk and carbon black. The temperature reversal effect is attributed to the severe weakening of the adhesion of the polymer to the surface of the filler particles as a result of the concentration of shrinkage stresses in the polymer-filler contact zone. The presence of shrinkage stresses around the filler particles at Tg is qualitatively demonstrated on model systems using a photoelastic technique. Moreover, it is shown that the unbalance, and hence the residual stresses, in filled systems at temperatures below the glass transition temperature of the filled polymer is determined by the difference in the coefficients of thermal expansion.Moscow Technological Institute of the Meat and Dairy Industry. Composites consisting of polyethylene and porous fillers with various pore sizes (from 22 to 115 Å) and surface types have been investigated. It is shown that the polymer filling the pores takes part in the deformation processes. The modulus of elasticity of the filled polymers is directly proportional to the filler surface per gram polymer. It is proposed to characterize the activity of the fillers by reference to the slope of the straight lines E-S with the hydrodynamic effect excluded.Institute of Polymer Mechanics, Academy of Sciences of the Latvian SSR, Riga. An investigation has been made into the applicability of the reduced concentration principle to composites based on a partially crystalline polymer — low-density polyethylene — with 13 mineral fillers of different chemical composition, particle size, and porosity. It is shown that over the entire accessible interval of filler load factors the composites investigated obey the law of corresponding states. It is suggested that the deviation of the generalized dependence of the modulus of elasticity from the analogous dependence obtained for amorphous network polymers is associated with a decrease in the crystallinity of the polymer matrix with increase in filler concentration.  相似文献

Possible fracture mechanisms in filled rubbers are examined in the light of the adhesion theory of elastomer reinforcement. The cases of rubbers containing inactive fillers, when the crack grows along the elastomer-filler boundary, and rubbers containing active fillers, when the crack propagates through the polymer, are considered. The effect of the presence of chains of filler particles on the fracture mechanism is examined.Lomonosov Moscow Institute of Fine Chemical Technology. A study has been made of the temperature dependence of the service behavior, deformation, and tear rate of filled systems based on SKS-85. It is established that the introduction of fillers which enhance the strength of systems in the high-elastic state effect a loss of strength in the vitreous state. The observed reversal of the strengthening effect from positive to negative is explained by weakening of the adhesive strength of the bond between polymer and filler particles caused by the increase and concentration of shrinkage stresses during cooling of the specimens. This effect is called temperature inversion of the reinforcing action of fillers.Mekhanika Polimerov, Vol. 1, No. 6, pp. 98–102, 1965  相似文献

A numerical method for predicting the deformational and strength characteristics of a calcite-quartzitic polymer concrete from the known properties of its components is developed based on the finite-element method. Components of the material are assumed elastic and isotropic, and the filler particles are modeled by round inclusions perfectly bonded to the polymer matrix. The size distribution of the inclusions correspond to that of actual fillers. The destruction process of the components is simulated by sequentially excluding the particles in which the maximum principal stress has achieved the ultimate value for this component. A comparison of calculated and experimental characteristics of the polymer concrete showed errors of 2–4% for the elastic modulus and about 10% for the ultimate strength if the finite-element cell included not less than 20–30 average-size particles and 2–5 large ones. __________ Translated from Mekhanika Kompozitnykh Materialov, Vol. 42, No. 6, pp. 817–824, November–December, 2006  相似文献

The author describes various effects which he has detected involving the reversal of the reinforcing action of fillers in polymers in different subregions of the glassy state. It is suggested that these effects can be explained in terms of, among other things, the flexibility of the macromolecules. The concept of an optimal flexibility at which the maximum value of a given mechanical property can be realized is introduced. It is shown that it is possible, in principle, to reinforce a polymer in any subregion of the glassy state and even below Tb, as well as to obtain equal-strength, equal-modulus, equally reinforced, etc., composites containing different (large and small) amounts of fillers and plasticizers.  相似文献

The effect of a filler on the mechanical and thermophysical properties of polymer coatings has been investigated. It is shown that quartz sand particles are centers of structure formation in alkyd and epoxy coatings. It has been found that a denser, oriented, and stressed polymer structure, much exceeding the size of the individual macromolecules, is formed around the filler particles. The size of the spheres around the filler particles depends on the nature of the film-former, on the filler surface, and on the filler content. It is postulated that secondary supermolecular structures, and not individual polymer macromolecules, are adsorbed on the surface of the filler particles.Mekhanika Polimerov, Vol. 3, No. 3, pp. 507–510, 1967  相似文献

Thermal dependence of the electric conductivity of thermoplastic composites based on both amorphous (hiPS) and crystallized (PP) polymers is investigated in this study. Two types of carbon black fillers with different values of BET surface area were used as charge conductors. Composites based on crystallized polymer matrices indicate the sharp growth of electric resistivity just before the melting range. This maximum is followed by substantial decrease of resistance at T > Tmelt. With the decrease of carbon black concentration both relative growth of resistance at the T Tmelt and further dropping resistance at T > Tmelt increase. Composites filled with particles of higher surface area are characterized by less pronounced matrix influence on thermal dependence of electric conductivity than composites filled with particles of lower surface area; this can be caused by more pronounced matrix/filler interaction in the first case. The range of temperatures at which the resistance increase occurs does not depend on the type of carbon filler and its concentration. Composites with amorphous matrices are characterized by distinct increase of resistance above glass transition. Thermal treatment of the sample significantly affects the initial values and intensity of the temperature dependence of the resistance. To be presented at the Ninth International Conference on the Mechanics of Composite Materials, Riga, October, 1995.Published in Mekhanika Kompozitnykh Materialov, Vol. 31, No. 4, pp. 526–532, July–August, 1995.  相似文献

The strength and deformability of reinforced polymers in tension across the fibers is investigated. It is assumed that the polymer deforms as an ideal elastoplastic body. Relations are obtained for the nature of the deformation of the polymer between the fibers and the strength and deformability of the composite with allowance for the structural distribution of the components. Theoretical stress-strain diagrams are presented for composites with different reinforcement densities and resin elasticities. The theoretical values of the strength and deformation of reinforced polymers with the load applied across the fibers are compared with the results of experiments on model specimens of epoxy-Thiokol polymers.Leningrad Mechanical Institute. The effect of polymer molecular weight (using polyethylene and polyisobutylene) on the formation of polymer contact with the surface of porous and nonporous fillers has been studied. It has been shown that the extent of coating of a nonporous surface by polymer does not depend on polymer molecular weight, but the extent of coating of a porous surface is larger, the lower the molecular weight of the polymer; this is explained by a selective adsorption of macromolecules of lower molecular weight on the porous filler from the polymer melt.  相似文献

The filler-concentration dependence of the modulus of elasticity of composites based on polyester resin filled with various kinds of dispersed fillers has been investigated. The applicability of the reduced concentration principle to this class of materials is demonstrated. The question of the existence of a universal dependence of the modulus of elasticity of composites on the filler content, invariant with respect to the nature of the polymer and the filler, is examined.  相似文献

Conclusion Based on the results of dynamic experimental studies, it was shown that addition of mineral fillers to polyethylenes does not result in a significant change in the relaxation properties of the polymer matrix of CM. It was found that aggregation of the particles of the granular filler causes a significant increase in the real part of the modulus and a decrease in the mechanical loss tangent of the CM. The possibility of using a modified elastic solution for predicting the effective characteristics of the dynamic viscoelasticity of composites was demonstrated.Translated from Mekhanika Kompozitnykh Materialov, No. 4. pp. 579–586, July–August, 1989.  相似文献

The authors have investigated the effect of introducing fiberglas into polystyrene and polymethyl methacrylate films on the transition temperatures and on the intervening glassy-state temperature intervals within which the polymers possess different physicomechanical properties. The variation in a number of the mechanical characteristics of these polymers has been studied as a function of filler concentration within all the subregions of the glassy state bounded by the transition temperatures obtained. Temperature inversion of the reinforcing action of the fibrous filler within the glassy state has been detected. Attention is drawn to the existence at a given temperature of a large number of filled polymer systems with the same reinforcing effect and the same strength at different contents of the same filler in the same polymer.Mekhanika Polimerov, Vol. 3, No. 3, pp. 517–523, 1967  相似文献

An investigation of low-density polyethylenes filled with up to 30% by volume dispersed particles, has shown that for both the matrix and the composites the apparent viscous flow activation energy does not depend on the shear stresses and increases starting from a certain filler concentration at which the conformation range in the matrix is depleted. The dependence of the relative viscosity of the compositions on the volume filler content is satisfactorily described by an equation that contains the reduced filler concentration, defined as the ratio of the nominal filler concentration to the limiting concentration at which the adsorption layers on the particles extend throughout the matrix. The thickness of the polymer layer adsorbed on the particles must be determined from the specific exterior particle surface, with allowance for the volume of the polymer in the sorption space of the porous filler.Institute of Polymer Mechanics, Academy of Sciences of the Latvian SSR, Riga. Studies are made of the mechanical and friction engineering properties of a copolymer of trioxane-1,3,5 with dioxolan-1,3 reinforced with dressed carbon fibers based on hydrated cellulose. Polyalkyloxysilanes are used as the finishes. The optimum concentrations of the finishes on the fibrous filler are determined. Relations are obtained to describe the dependence of the mechanical properties of carbon-fiber-reinforced plastics on the type of finish and its effect on the condition of the phase boundary between filler and the polymer matrix. The effect of adhesion of the polymer to the fibrous filler on the properties of a randomly reinforced thermoplastic composite is also determined. The dependences of the friction engineering properties of polyacetal-based carbon-plastics on the loading parameters of the friction-loading unit are examined. The material that is developed has high values of strength, elastic modulus, and notch toughness and low values of the friction coefficient and shrinkage. The material can be used as structural and anti-friction elements in rocketry, aviation, and the automobile industry.Ukrainian State Chemical Engineering University, Dnepropetrovsk. Uniaxial experiments clarify that the mechanical behaviour of PTFE compounds depends strongly on the amount of filler particles. In order to describe these dependencies, a finite endochronic viscoplastic material model based on material isomorphisms has been applied to various glass fibre filled PTFE compounds. The model allows to characterize viscoplastic material behaviour with equilibrium hysteresis using a rate‐independent endochronic elastoplastic model in parallel connection with a nonlinear Maxwell model.
