On Complete Convergence for Arrays of Random Elements and Variables

Abstract

We obtain complete convergence results for arrays of row-wise independent Banach space valued random elements. The main result deals with two cases that usually are considered separately: when no assumptions are made concerning the geometry of the underlying Banach space and when the Banach space is of Rademacher type p.

On Complete Convergence for Arrays of Random Elements

Abstract

A complete convergence theorem for arrays of rowwise independent random variables was obtained by Kruglov, Volodin, and Hu (Statistics and Probability Letters 2006, 76:1631–1640). In this article, we extend the result to a Banach space without any additional conditions. No assumptions are made concerning the geometry of the underlying Banach space.

Strong convergence theorems for two countable families of weak relatively nonexpansive mappings and applications

The purpose of this article is to prove strong convergence theorems for common fixed points of two countable families of weak relatively nonexpansive mappings in Banach spaces. In order to get the strong convergence theorems, the monotone hybrid algorithms are presented and are used to approximate the common fixed points. Using this result, we also discuss the problem of strong convergence concerning the maximal monotone operators in a Banach space. The results of this article modify and improve the results of Matsushita and Takahashi [S. Matsushita, W. Takahashi, A strong convergence theorem for relatively nonexpansive mappings in a Banach space, J. Approx. Theory 134 (2005) 257-266] and the results of Plubtieng and Ungchittrakool [S. Plubtieng, K. Ungchittrakool, Strong convergence theorems for a common fixed point of two relatively nonexpansive mappings in a Banach space, J. Approx. Theory 149 (2007) 103-115] and the results of Su et al. [Y. Su, Z. Wang and H. Xu, Strong convergence theorems for a common fixed point of two hemi-relatively nonexpansive mappings, Nonlinear Anal. 71 (2009) 5616-5628], and many others.

Improving the order and rates of convergence for the Super-Halley method in Banach spaces

In this study we are concerned with the problem of approximating a locally unique solution of an equation on a Banach space. A semilocal convergence theorem is given for the Super-Halley method in Banach spaces. Earlier results have shown that the order of convergence is four for a certain class of operators [4], [5], [8]. These results were not given in affine invariant form, and made use of a real quadratic majorizing polynomial. Here, we provide our results in affine invariant form showing that the order of convergence is at least four. In cases that it is exactly four the rate of convergence is improved. We achieve these results by using a cubic majorizing polynomial. Some numerical examples are given to show that our error bounds are better than earlier ones.

In this paper, we obtain theorems of complete convergence and strong laws of large numbers for weighted sums of sequences of independent random elements in a Banach space of type p （1 ≤ p ≤ 2）. The results improve and extend the corresponding results on real random variables obtained by [1] and [2].     

Weak convergence theorems for a countable family of Lipschitzian mappings

This paper is concerned with convergence of an approximating common fixed point sequence of countable Lipschitzian mappings in a uniformly convex Banach space. We also establish weak convergence theorems for finding a common element of the set of fixed points, the set of solutions of an equilibrium problem, and the set of solutions of a variational inequality. With an appropriate setting, we obtain and improve the corresponding results recently proved by Moudafi [A. Moudafi, Weak convergence theorems for nonexpansive mappings and equilibrium problems. J. Nonlinear Convex Anal. 9 (2008) 37–43], Tada–Takahashi [A. Tada and W. Takahashi, Weak and strong convergence theorems for a nonexpansive mapping and an equilibrium problem. J. Optim. Theory Appl. 133 (2007) 359–370], and Plubtieng–Kumam [S. Plubtieng and P. Kumam, Weak convergence theorem for monotone mappings and a countable family of nonexpansive mappings. J. Comput. Appl. Math. (2008) doi:10.1016/j.cam.2008.05.045]. Some of our results are established with weaker assumptions.     

Modified block iterative algorithm for Quasi-?-asymptotically nonexpansive mappings and equilibrium problem in banach spaces

The purpose of this paper is to propose a modified block iterative algorithm for find a common element of the set of common fixed points of an infinite family of quasi-?-asymptotically nonexpansive mappings and the set of an equilibrium problem. Under suitable conditions, some strong convergence theorems are established in a uniformly smooth and strictly convex Banach space with the Kadec-Klee property. As an application, at the end of the paper a numerical example is given. The results presented in the paper improve and extend the corresponding results in Qin et al. [Convergence theorems of common elements for equilibrium problems and fixed point problem in Banach spaces, J. Comput. Appl. Math., 225, 2009, 20-30], Zhou et al. Strong convergence theorems for a common fixed point of two relatively nonexpansive mappings in a Banach space

In this paper, we establish strong convergence theorems for a common fixed point of two relatively nonexpansive mappings in a Banach space by using the hybrid method in mathematical programming. Our results extend and improve the recent ones announced by Matsushita and Takahashi [A strong convergence theorem for relatively nonexpansive mappings in a Banach space, J. Approx. Theory 134 (2005) 257-266], Matinez-yanes and Xu [Strong convergence of the CQ method for fixed point iteration processes, Nonlinear Anal. 64 (2006) 2400-2411], and many others.     

A Note on Complete Convergence for Arrays of Rowwise Independent Banach Space Valued Random Elements

We obtain complete convergence results for arrays of rowwise independent Banach space valued random elements. Compared with similar results presented in the probabilistic literature our conditions are weaker.     

Rates of convergence for the laws of large numbers for independent Banach-valued random variables

In this paper, results of Lai, Heyde, and Rohatgi concerning the convergence rates for the laws of large numbers are extended for the case of independent random variables taking values in a separable Banach space.

Strong convergence theorems by a new hybrid projection algorithm for fixed point problems and equilibrium problems of two relatively quasi-nonexpansive mappings

The purpose of this paper is to introduce a new hybrid projection algorithm for finding a common element of the set of common fixed points of two relatively quasi-nonexpansive mappings and the set of solutions of an equilibrium problem in the framework of Banach spaces. Our results improve and extend the corresponding results announced by Takahashi and Zembayashi [W. Takahashi, K. Strong convergence of weighted sums of random elements through the equivalence of sequences of distributions

The equivalence of sequences of probability measures jointly with the extension of Skorohod's representation theorem due to Blackwell and Dubins is used to obtain strong convergence of weighted sums of random elements in a separable Banach space. Our results include most of the known work on this topic without geometric restrictions on the space. The simple technique developed gives a unified method to extend results on this topic for real random variables to Banach-valued random elements. This technique is also applied to the proof of strong convergence of some statistical functionals.

Concerning the radius of convergence of Newton’s method and applications

We present local and semilocal convergence results for Newton’s method in a Banach space setting. In particular, using Lipschitz-type assumptions on the second Fréchet-derivative we find results concerning the radius of convergence of Newton’s method. Such results are useful in the context of predictor-corrector continuation procedures. Finally, we provide numerical examples to show that our results can apply where earlier ones using Lipschitz assumption on the first Fréchet-derivative fail.
