Rational design of efficient, stable, and inexpensive bifunctional electrocatalysts for oxygen evolution reactions (OER) and hydrogen evolution reactions (HER) is a key challenge to realize green hydrogen production via electrolytic water splitting. Herein, Ru nanoparticles and FeNi alloy heterojunction catalyst (Ru−FeNi@NLC) encapsulated via lignin-derived carbon was prepared by self-assembly precipitation and in situ pyrolysis. The designed catalyst displays excellent performance at 10 mA cm−2 with low overpotentials of 36 mV for HER and 198 mV for OER, and only needs 1.48 V for overall water splitting. Results and DFT calculations show the unique N-doped lignin-derived carbon layer and Ru−FeNi heterojunction contribute to optimized electronic structure for enhancing electron transfer, balanced free energy of reactants and intermediates in the sorption/desorption process, and significantly reduced reaction energy barrier for the HER and OER rate-determining steps, thus improved reaction kinetics. This work provides a new in situ pyrolysis doping strategy based on renewable biomass for the construction of highly active, stable and cost-effective catalysts.  相似文献

Photocatalytic water splitting for hydrogen production using sustainable sunlight is a promising alternative to industrial hydrogen production. However, the scarcity of highly active, recyclable, inexpensive photocatalysts impedes the development of photocatalytic hydrogen evolution reaction (HER) schemes. Herein, a metal–organic framework (MOF)‐template strategy was developed to prepare non‐noble metal co‐catalyst/solid solution heterojunction NiS/ZnxCd1−xS with superior photocatalytic HER activity. By adjusting the doping metal concentration in MOFs, the chemical compositions and band gaps of the heterojunctions can be fine‐tuned, and the light absorption capacity and photocatalytic activity were further optimized. NiS/Zn0.5Cd0.5S exhibits an optimal HER rate of 16.78 mmol g−1 h−1 and high stability and recyclability under visible‐light irradiation (λ>420 nm). Detailed characterizations and in‐depth DFT calculations reveal the relationship between the heterojunction and photocatalytic activity and confirm the importance of NiS in accelerating the water dissociation kinetics, which is a crucial factor for photocatalytic HER.  相似文献

Electrocatalytic water splitting powered by renewable energy is a sustainable approach for hydrogen production. However, conventional water electrolysis may suffer from gas mixing, and the different kinetics between hydrogen evolution reaction (HER) and oxygen evolution reaction (OER) will limit the direct use of unstable renewable energies, leading to increased cost of H2 production. Herein, a novel phenazine-based compound is synthesized to develop the solid-state redox mediator associated water splititng process, and thus decoupling the H2 and O2 production in acid solution without the use of membrane. Excitingly, this organic redox mediator exhibits high specific capacity (290 mAh g−1 at 0.5 A g−1), excellent rate performance (186 mAh g−1 at 30 A g−1) and long cycle life (3000 cycles) due to its π-conjugated aromatic structure and the fast kinetics of H+ storage/release process. Furthermore, a membrane-free decoupled water electrolysis architecture driven by solar energy is achieved, demonstrating high-purity H2 production at different times.  相似文献

Hydrogen evolution reaction/Oxygen evolution reaction (HER/OER) synergy would be the most important issue for overall water splitting. The Pt-free 1T/2H-MoS2/CdS/MnOx hollow core–shell nanocomposites are fabricated via a continuous hydrothermal–chemical method; therefore, the OER co-catalysts MnOx and CdS shell are deposited on the surface of SiO2 nanosphere templates continuously via hydrothermal–chemical method. Subsequently, the SiO2 templates are etched via chemical method and the 2H-MoS2/CdS hollow core–shell heterojunction and 1T-MoS2 HER co-catalyst are introduced via one-step hydrothermal method. Evaluated by photocatalytic performance, the 1T/2H-MoS2/CdS/MnOx exhibits an enhanced HER performance of about ~50 folds than that of single CdS hollow nanosphere, and achieves a decent overall water splitting performance of about ~1668.00(H2)/824.61(O2) μmol/g?h, which can be mainly ascribed to the well HER/OER synergy and formation of hollow core–shell structure. Therefore, the 1T-MoS2 with quick electron transport and decent solid/liquid interface can promote the photogenerated electron diffusing, the MnOx with mixed Mn3+/Mn4+ ions can activate the hole-related species for OH? oxidation and promote H2O2 decomposition, the 2H–MoS2/CdS heterojunction can separate the charge carrier and meet the potential to achieve overall water splitting. Additionally, the 1T/2H-MoS2 with decent lattice matching can improve the charge carrier transport, the 1T-MoS2 with sufficient specific surface areas can increase active sites and the hollow core–shell structure can increase solar efficiency which is also beneficial for enhancing the overall water splitting performance and stability.  相似文献

Designing cost-effective and efficient electrocatalysts plays a pivotal role in advancing the development of electrochemical water splitting for hydrogen generation. Herein, multifunctional active-center-transferable heterostructured electrocatalysts, platinum/lithium cobalt oxide (Pt/LiCoO2) composites with Pt nanoparticles (Pt NPs) anchored on LiCoO2 nanosheets, are designed towards highly efficient water splitting. In this electrocatalyst system, the active center can be alternatively switched between Pt species and LiCoO2 for hydrogen evolution reaction (HER) and oxygen evolution reaction (OER), respectively. Specifically, Pt species are the active centers and LiCoO2 acts as the co-catalyst for HER, whereas the active center transfers to LiCoO2 and Pt turns into the co-catalyst for OER. The unique architecture of Pt/LiCoO2 heterostructure provides abundant interfaces with favorable electronic structure and coordination environment towards optimal adsorption behavior of reaction intermediates. The 30 % Pt/LiCoO2 heterostructured electrocatalyst delivers low overpotentials of 61 and 285 mV to achieve 10 mA cm−2 for HER and OER in alkaline medium, respectively.  相似文献

Bifunctional electrocatalysts for the oxygen evolution reaction (OER) and hydrogen evolution reaction (HER) in alkaline electrolyte may improve the efficiency of overall water splitting. Nickel cobaltite (NiCo2O4) has been considered a promising electrode material for the OER. However, NiCo2O4 that can be used as an electrocatalyst in HER has not been studied yet. Herein, we report self‐assembled hierarchical NiCo2O4 hollow microcuboids for overall water splitting including both the HER and OER reactions. The NiCo2O4 electrode shows excellent activity toward overall water splitting, with 10 mA cm?2 water‐splitting current reached by applying just 1.65 V and 20 mA cm?2 by applying just 1.74 V across the two electrodes. The synthesis of NiCo2O4 microflowers confirms the importance of structural features for high‐performance overall water splitting.  相似文献

Based on hybrid density functional theory (DFT) calculations, we propose a new two-dimensional (2D) B-C-N material, graphitic- (g- ), with the promising prospect of metal-free photocatalysis. We find it to be a near ultraviolet (UV) absorbing direct band gap (3.69 eV) semiconductor with robust dynamical and mechanical stability. Estimating the band positions with respect to water oxidation and hydrogen reduction potential levels along with a detailed analysis of reaction mechanism of hydrogen evolution reaction (HER) and oxygen evolution reaction (OER), we observe that g- monolayer can be efficiently used for hydrogen fuel generation over entire pH range as well as for spontaneous water splitting at basic pH range. Upon biaxial strain application, band positions get realigned along with the free energy change that is involved in HER and OER. Consequently, operational range of pH for OER gets broadened and the proposed material exhibits the ability to perform spontaneous and simultaneous oxidation and reduction even in neutral pH. The combination of pH variation and applied strain can be used as a key to control the reducing and/or oxidizing abilities precisely for diverse photocatalytic reactions to attain environmental sustainability.  相似文献

The electricity-driven water splitting acts as a promising pathway for renewable energy conversion and storage, yet anodic oxygen evolution reaction (OER) largely hinders its efficiency. Seeking the alternatives to OER exhibits the competitive advance to address this predicament. In this work, we show a more thermodynamically and kinetically favorable reaction, electrochemical oxidative dehydrogenation (EODH) of benzylamine to replace the conventional OER, catalyzed by a cobalt cyclotetraphosphate (Co2P4O12) nanorods catalyst grown on nickel foam. This anodic reaction lowers the electricity input of 317 mV toward the desired current density of 100 mA/cm2, together with a highly selective benzonitrile product of more than 97%. More specifically, when coupling it with cathodic hydrogen evolution reaction (HER), the proposed HER||benzylamine-EODH configuration only requires a cell voltage of 1.47 V@100 mA/cm2, exhibiting an energy-saving up to 17% relative to conventional water splitting, as well as the near unit selectivity toward cathodic H2 and anodic benzonitrile products.  相似文献

Combining the self-sacrifice of a highly crystalline substance to design a multistep chain reaction towards ultrathin active-layer construction for high-performance water splitting with atmospheric-temperature conditions and an environmentally benign aqueous environment is extremely intriguing and full of challenges. Here, taking cobalt carbonate hydroxides (CCHs) as the initial crystalline material, we choose the Lewis acid metal salt of Fe(NO3)3 to induce an aqueous-phase chain reaction generating free CO32− ions with subsequent instant FeCO3 hydrolysis. The resultant ultrathin (∼5 nm) amorphous Fe-based hydroxide layer on CCH results in considerable activity in catalyzing the oxygen evolution reaction (OER) and hydrogen evolution reaction (HER), yielding 10/50 mA ⋅ cm−2 at overpotentials of 230/266.5 mV for OER and 72.5/197.5 mV for HER. The catalysts can operate constantly in 1.0 M KOH over 48 and 45 h for the OER and HER, respectively. For bifunctional catalysis for alkaline electrolyzer assembly, a cell voltage as low as 1.53 V was necessary to yield 10 mA cm−2 (1.7 V at 50 mA cm−2). This work rationally builds high-efficiency electrochemical bifunctional water-splitting catalysts and offers a trial in establishing a controllable nanolevel ultrathin lattice disorder layer through an atmospheric-temperature chemical route.  相似文献

Earth-abundant transition metal-based catalysts have been extensively investigated for their applicability in water electrolysers to enable overall water splitting to produce clean hydrogen and oxygen. In this study a Fe−Co based catalyst is electrodeposited in 30 seconds under vigorous hydrogen evolution conditions to produce a high surface area material that is active for both the oxygen evolution reaction (OER) and the hydrogen evolution reaction (HER). This catalyst can achieve high current densities of 600 mAcm−2 at an applied potential of 1.6 V (vs RHE) in 1 M NaOH with a Tafel slope value of 48 mV dec−1 for the OER. In addition, the HER can be facilitated at current densities as high as 400 mA cm−2 due to the large surface area of the material. The materials were found to be predominantly amorphous but did contain crystalline regions of CoFe2O4 which became more evident after the OER indicating interesting compositional and structural changes that occur to the catalyst after an electrocatalytic reaction. This rapid method of creating a bimetallic oxide electrode for both the HER and OER could possibly be adopted to other bimetallic oxide systems suitable for electrochemical water splitting.  相似文献

An Ru-doping strategy is reported to substantially improve both hydrogen evolution reaction (HER) and oxygen evolution reaction (OER) electrocatalytic activity of Ni/Fe-based metal–organic framework (MOF) for overall water splitting. As-synthesized Ru-doped Ni/Fe MIL-53 MOF nanosheets grown on nickel foam (MIL-53(Ru-NiFe)@NF) afford HER and OER current density of 50 mA cm−2 at an overpotential of 62 and 210 mV, respectively, in alkaline solution with a nominal Ru loading of ≈110 μg cm−2. When using as both anodic and cathodic (pre-)catalyst, MIL-53(Ru-NiFe)@NF enables overall water splitting at a current density of 50 mA cm−2 for a cell voltage of 1.6 V without iR compensation, which is much superior to state-of-the-art RuO2-Pt/C-based electrolyzer. It is discovered that the Ru-doping considerably modulates the growth of MOF to form thin nanosheets, and enhances the intrinsic HER electrocatalytic activity by accelerating the sluggish Volmer step and improving the intermediate oxygen adsorption for increased OER catalytic activity.  相似文献

The development of efficient and cost-effective electrocatalysts toward anodic oxygen evolution reaction (OER) is crucial for the commercial application of electrochemical water splitting. As the most promising electrocatalysts, the OER performances of nickel-iron-based materials can be further improved by introducing metalloid elements to modify their electron structures. Herein, we developed an efficient hybrid electrocatalyst with nickel-iron boride (NiFeB) as core and amorphous nickel-iron borate (NiFeBi) as shell (NiFeB@NiFeBi) via a simple aqueous reduction. The obtained NiFeB@NiFeBi exhibits a small overpotential of 237 mV at 10 mA/cm2 and Tafel slope of 57.65 mV/dec in 1.0 mol/L KOH, outperforming most of the documented precious-metal-free based electrocatalysts. Benefiting from the in situ formed amorphous NiFeBi layer, it shows excellent stability toward the oxygen evolution reaction (OER). These findings might provide a new way to design advanced precious-metal-free electrocatalysts for OER and the application of electrochemical water splitting.  相似文献

For electrocatalytic water splitting, the sluggish anodic oxygen evolution reaction (OER) restricts the cathodic hydrogen evolution reaction (HER). Therefore, developing an alternative anodic reaction with accelerating kinetics to produce value‐added chemicals, especially coupled with HER, is of great importance. Now, a thermodynamically more favorable primary amine (?CH2?NH2) electrooxidation catalyzed by NiSe nanorod arrays in water is reported to replace OER for enhancing HER. The increased H2 production can be obtained at cathode; meanwhile, a variety of aromatic and aliphatic primary amines are selectively electrooxidized to nitriles with good yields at the anode. Mechanistic investigations suggest that NiII/NiIII may serve as the redox active species for the primary amines transformation. Hydrophobic nitrile products can readily escape from aqueous electrolyte/electrode interface, avoiding the deactivation of the catalyst and thus contributing to continuous gram‐scale synthesis.  相似文献

Both the hydrogen evolution reaction (HER) and the oxygen evolution reaction (OER) are crucial to water splitting, but require alternative active sites. Now, a general π‐electron‐assisted strategy to anchor single‐atom sites (M=Ir, Pt, Ru, Pd, Fe, Ni) on a heterogeneous support is reported. The M atoms can simultaneously anchor on two distinct domains of the hybrid support, four‐fold N/C atoms (M@NC), and centers of Co octahedra (M@Co), which are expected to serve as bifunctional electrocatalysts towards the HER and the OER. The Ir catalyst exhibits the best water‐splitting performance, showing a low applied potential of 1.603 V to achieve 10 mA cm?2 in 1.0 m KOH solution with cycling over 5 h. DFT calculations indicate that the Ir@Co (Ir) sites can accelerate the OER, while the Ir@NC3 sites are responsible for the enhanced HER, clarifying the unprecedented performance of this bifunctional catalyst towards full water splitting.  相似文献

Uniform Ni3C nanodots dispersed in ultrathin N‐doped carbon nanosheets were successfully prepared by carburization of the two dimensional (2D) nickel cyanide coordination polymer precursors. The Ni3C based nanosheets have lateral length of about 200 nm and thickness of 10 nm. When doped with Fe, the Ni3C based nanosheets exhibited outstanding electrocatalytic properties for both the hydrogen evolution reaction (HER) and oxygen evolution reaction (OER). For example, 2 at % Fe (atomic percent) doped Ni3C nanosheets depict a low overpotential (292 mV) and a small Tafel slope (41.3 mV dec−1) for HER in KOH solution. An outstanding OER catalytic property is also achieved with a low overpotential of 275 mV and a small Tafel slope of 62 mV dec−1 in KOH solution. Such nanodot‐incorporated 2D hybrid structures can serve as an efficient bifunctional electrocatalyst for overall water splitting.  相似文献

Electrochemical water splitting can provide a promising avenue for sustainable hydrogen production. Highly efficient electrocatalysts toward the hydrogen evolution reaction (HER) and oxygen evolution reaction (OER) are extremely important for the practical application of water splitting technology. Herein, a one-step annealing strategy is reported for the fabrication of a metal–organic framework-derived bifunctional self-supported electrocatalyst, which is composed of two-dimensional N-doped carbon-wrapped Ir-doped Ni nanoparticle composites supported on Ni foam (NiIr@N-C/NF). The resultant NiIr@N-C/NF displays excellent electrocatalytic performance in 1.0 m KOH, with low overpotentials of 32 mV at 10 mA cm−2 for the HER and 329 mV at 50 mA cm−2 for the OER. Particularly, the HER-OER bifunctional NiIr@N-C/NF needs only 1.50 V to yield 10 mA cm−2 for overall water splitting.  相似文献

The development of high-efficiency bifunctional electrocatalysts toward the hydrogen evolution reaction (HER) and oxygen evolution reaction (OER) in alkaline surroundings is essential and challenging for the large-scale generation of clean hydrogen. Herein, a novel self-assembled two-dimensional (2 D) NiO/CeO2 heterostructure (HS) consisting of NiO and CeO2 nanocrystals is prepared through a facile two-step approach, and utilized as an enhanced bifunctional electrocatalyst for the HER and OER under alkaline conditions. It is concluded that this 2 D NiO/CeO2 HS, rich in oxygen vacancies, demonstrates attractive electrocatalytic properties for both the HER and OER in 1 m KOH, including low onset overpotential (η1), η10 and Tafel slope, excellent durability, as well as large active surface area. Therefore, the self-assembled 2 D NiO/CeO2 HS is believed to be an efficient bifunctional electrocatalyst toward the HER and OER.  相似文献
