ABSTRACT

We study the coupled Navier-Stokes Ginzburg-Landau model of nematic liquid crystals introduced by F.H. Lin, which is a simplified version ofthe Ericksen-Leslie system. We generalize the model to compact n-dimensional Riemannian manifolds, deriving the system from a variational principle, and provide a very simple proof of local well-posedness for this coupled system using a contraction mapping argument. We then prove that this system is globally well-posed and has compact global attractors when the dimension of the manifold M is two. A small data result in n dimensions follows easily. Finally, we introduce the Lagrangian averaged liquid crystal equations, which arise from averaging the Navier-Stokes fluid motion over small spatial scales in the variational principle. We show that this averaged system is globally well-posed and has compact global attractors even when M is three-dimensional.  相似文献

We show that degenerate complex Monge-Ampère equations in a big cohomology class of a compact Kähler manifold can be solved using a variational method, without relying on Yau’s theorem. Our formulation yields in particular a natural pluricomplex analogue of the classical logarithmic energy of a measure. We also investigate Kähler-Einstein equations on Fano manifolds. Using continuous geodesics in the closure of the space of Kähler metrics and Berndtsson’s positivity of direct images, we extend Ding-Tian’s variational characterization and Bando-Mabuchi’s uniqueness result to singular Kähler-Einstein metrics. Finally, using our variational characterization we prove the existence, uniqueness and convergence as k→∞ of k-balanced metrics in the sense of Donaldson both in the (anti)canonical case and with respect to a measure of finite pluricomplex energy.  相似文献

In this paper we describe some nonlinear equilibrium problems under uncertainty arising from economics and operations research. In particular we treat Wardrop equilibria in traffic networks. We show how the theory of monotone random variational inequalities, where random variables occur both in the operator and the constraint set, can be applied to model these problems. Therefore in this contribution we introduce the topic of random variational inequalities and present some of our recent results in this field. In particular, we treat the more structured case where a finite Karhunen-Loève expansion leads to a separation of the random and the deterministic variables. Here we describe a norm convergent approximation procedure based on averaging and truncation. We illustrate this procedure by means of some small sized numerical examples.  相似文献

We use the formalism of bilinear- and quadratic differential forms in order to study Hamiltonian and variational linear distributed systems. It was shown in [1] that a system described by ordinary linear constant-coefficient differential equations is Hamiltonian if and only if it is variational. In this paper we extend this result to systems described by linear, constant-coefficient partial differential equations. It is shown that any variational system is Hamiltonian, and that any scalar Hamiltonian system is contained (in general, properly) in a particular variational system.  相似文献

We consider a mathematical model which describes the bilateral quasistatic contact of a viscoelastic body with a rigid obstacle. The contact is modelled with a modified version of Coulomb's law of dry friction and, moreover, the coefficient of friction is assumed to depend either on the total slip or on the current slip. In the first case, the problem depends upon contact history. We present the classical formulations of the problems, the variational formulations and establish the existence and uniqueness of a weak solution to each of them, when the coefficient of friction is sufficiently small. The proofs are based on classical results for elliptic variational inequalities and fixed point arguments. We also study the dependence of the solutions on the perturbations of the friction coefficient and obtain a uniform convergence result. Copyright © 1999 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.  相似文献

In this paper, we consider variational inequalities with pseudomonotone maps which depend on a parameter and study the behavior of their solutions. The main result gives sufficient conditions for the stability of the initial variational inequality problem under small perturbations of the parameter. As an application, we obtain a stability result for a class of parametric optimization problems.  相似文献

Solution differentiability for variational inequalities   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1
In this paper we study solution differentiability properties for variational inequalities. We characterize Fréchet differentiability of perturbed solutions to parametric variational inequality problems defined on polyhedral sets. Our result extends the recent result of Pang and it directly specializes to nonlinear complementarity problems, variational inequality problems defined on perturbed sets and to nonlinear programming problems.  相似文献

In this paper, we consider a system of vector variational inequalities and a system of nonsmooth variational inequalities defined by means of Clarke directional derivative. We also consider the Nash equilibrium problem with vector pay-offs and its scalarized form. We present some relations among these systems and problems. The existence results for a solution of system of nonsmooth variational inequalities are given. As a consequence, we derive an existence result for a solution of Nash equilibrium problem with vector pay-offs.  相似文献

The aim of this Note is to study a system of partial differential equations arising in semiconductors. We prove an existence of variational solution using Schauder's fixed point theorem. If the domain is narrow in one direction, we also prove a uniqueness result.

Summary We study the problem of the dependence from the data of the solutions of quasilinear elliptic variational inequalities. We also consider the case of the strong solutions of parabolic variational inequalities, whose existence has been proved as a consequence of the previous results.

In this paper, we introduce and study a class of differential vector variational inequalities in finite dimensional Euclidean spaces. We establish a relationship between differential vector variational inequalities and differential scalar variational inequalities. Under various conditions, we obtain the existence and linear growth of solutions to the scalar variational inequalities. In particular we prove existence theorems for Carathéodory weak solutions of the differential vector variational inequalities. Furthermore, we give a convergence result on Euler time-dependent procedure for solving the initial-value differential vector variational inequalities.  相似文献

We study an abstract hyperbolic variational inequality with a (small) parameter and with time-dependent subdifferentials in a real Hilbert space. We prove that its solution converges to a solution of a parabolic variational inequality as the parameter tends to zero. We also explain how to apply the abstract theory to concrete unilateral problems.  相似文献

We study the asymptotic behavior at infinity of the solutions of a nonlinear elliptic system posed in a cylinder of infinite length. The problem is written in a variational formulation, where we ask the derivative of the solutions to be in Lp. We show that an exponential decay at infinity for the second member implies exponential decay for the derivative of the solutions. We also give an application of this result to the study of boundary layers problems.  相似文献

We introduce and study Choquet-Monge-Ampère classes on compact Kähler manifolds. They consist of quasi-plurisubharmonic functions whose sublevel sets have small enough asymptotic Monge-Ampère capacity. We compare them with finite energy classes, which have recently played an important role in Kähler Geometry.  相似文献

In this paper, we justify the averaging method for a multifrequency resonance system on a semiaxis under the assumption that the normal fundamental matrix of a variational system of averaged equations for slow variables exponentially tends to zero. We also study the quantitative dependence of the estimates on the magnitude of a small parameter.  相似文献

We propose and study a system of evolution equations. This is an abstract formulation of problems arising in non-isothermal phase transitions. We consider time-dependent constraints on the unknown functions. Thus the problem yields a system of parabolic variational inequalities. We prove the existence of a solution in a general framework, and then apply the abstract result to some models of phase transitions.  相似文献

We study the integrability of Hamiltonian systems with two degrees of freedom. We investigate the normal variational equations and obtain a necessary condition for integrability of these systems. As an application we study the integrability of the Hénon–Heiles system, whose normal variational equation is of Lamé type.  相似文献

ABSTRACT

We study the inverse problem of identifying a variable parameter in variational and quasi-variational inequalities. We consider a quasi-variational inequality involving a multi-valued monotone map and give a new existence result. We then formulate the inverse problem as an optimization problem and prove its solvability. We also conduct a thorough study of the inverse problem of parameter identification in noncoercive variational inequalities which appear commonly in applied models. We study the inverse problem by posing optimization problems using the output least-squares and the modified output least-squares. Using regularization, penalization, and smoothing, we obtain a single-valued parameter-to-selection map and study its differentiability. We consider optimization problems using the output least-squares and the modified output least-squares for the regularized, penalized and smoothened variational inequality. We give existence results, convergence analysis, and optimality conditions. We provide applications and numerical examples to justify the proposed framework.  相似文献

We consider a class of stationary subdifferential inclusions in a reflexive Banach space. We reformulate the problem in terms of a variational inequality with multivalued term and prove an existence result using the Kakutani-Fan-Glicksberg fixed point theorem. This approach allows to consider, in a natural way, a dual variational formulation of the problem. Next, we study the link between the primal and dual formulations and provide an equivalence result. Then, we consider a new mathematical model which describes the contact of an elastic body with a foundation. We apply the abstract formalism to derive the primal and the dual variational formulations of the problem, in terms of displacement and stress, respectively. Finally, we present existence and equivalence results in the study of this contact model.  相似文献

The existence result in linear elasticity obtained for the quasistatic problem of unilateral contact with regularized Coulomb friction is extented to a local friction problem. After discretizing the implicit variational inequality with respect to time, we have to solve a sequence of variational inequalities similar to the one of the static problem. If the friction coefficient is small enough, we show the existence of the incremental solution. We construct a suitable sequence of functions converging towards a quasistatic solution of the problem.  相似文献
