A new method is developed for converting various classes of Fredholm integral equations into equivalent initial value problems. In contrast with previous methods, which accomplished this by imbedding the equation, with respect to some parameter, in a family of similar ones, our approach is parameter free. To effect the conversion the integral equation is first shown to be equivalent to a two point boundary value problem. The application of various invariant imbedding algorithms completes the task. An extensive examination of linear equations is made, and it is shown that our procedure leads to a substantial reduction of dimensionality over previous methods. New techniques for solving critical length and continuation problems are another important consequence of our approach.  相似文献

This article is concerned with the scattering of acoustic and electromagnetic time harmonic plane waves by an inhomogeneous medium. These problems can be translated into volume integral equations of the second kind – the most prominent example is the Lippmann–Schwinger integral equation. In this work, we study a particular class of scattering problems where the integral operator in the corresponding operator equation of Lippmann–Schwinger type fails to be compact. Such integral equations typically arise if the modelling of the inhomogeneous medium necessitates space-dependent coefficients in the highest order terms of the underlying partial differential equation. The two examples treated here are acoustic scattering from a medium with a space-dependent material density and electromagnetic medium scattering where both the electric permittivity and the magnetic permeability vary. In these cases, Riesz theory is not applicable for the solution of the arising integral equations of Lippmann–Schwinger type. Therefore, we show that positivity assumptions on the relative material parameters allow to prove positivity of the arising volume potentials in tailor-made weighted spaces of square integrable functions. This result merely holds for imaginary wavenumber and we exploit a compactness argument to conclude that the arising integral equations are of Fredholm type, even if the integral operators themselves are not compact. Finally, we explain how the solution of the integral equations in L 2 affects the notion of a solution of the scattering problem and illustrate why the order of convergence of a Galerkin scheme set up in L 2 does not suffer from our L 2 setting, compared to schemes in higher order Sobolev spaces.  相似文献

In this article, a variational formulation for the transmission problem of the fluid–bone interaction is formulated. The formulation is based on a modified Biot system of equations for the cancellous bone together with a boundary integral equation formulation of the pressure in the water. Existence and uniqueness for the weak solution of the interaction problem are established in appropriate Sobolev spaces.  相似文献

In this paper we consider two boundary-value problems in a band for higher-order degenerate elliptic equations. These equations degenerate on one boundary of the band to a third-order equation with respect to one variable. We study problems in weight spaces similar to Sobolev ones whose norms are constructed with the help of a certain integral transform. We obtain a priori estimates in these weight spaces for solutions to boundary-value problems in the band for higher-order elliptic equations that degenerate on one boundary of the band to a third-order equation with respect to one variable.  相似文献

In the present paper, we study integrodifferential equations with unbounded operator coefficients in Hilbert spaces. The principal part of the equation is an abstract hyperbolic equation perturbed by summands with Volterra integral operators. These equations represent an abstract form of the Gurtin–Pipkin integrodifferential equation describing the process of heat conduction in media with memory and the process of sound conduction in viscoelastic media and arise in averaging problems in perforated media (the Darcy law). The correct solvability of initial-boundary problems for the specified equations is established in weighted Sobolev spaces on a positive semiaxis. Spectral problems for operator-functions are analyzed. Such functions are symbols of these equations. The spectrum of the abstract integrodifferential Gurtin–Pipkin equation is investigated.  相似文献

We prove coerciveness with a defect and Fredholmness of nonlocal irregular boundary value problems for second order elliptic differential-operator equations in UMD Banach spaces. Then, we prove coerciveness with a defect in both the space variable and the spectral parameter of the problem with a linear parameter in the equation. The results do not imply maximal L p -regularity in contrast to previously considered regular case. In fact, a counterexample shows that there is no maximal L p -regularity in the irregular case. When studying Fredholmness, the boundary conditions may also contain unbounded operators in perturbation terms. Finally, application to nonlocal irregular boundary value problems for elliptic equations of the second order in cylindrical domains are presented. Equations and boundary conditions may contain differential-integral parts. The spaces of solvability are Sobolev type spaces ${W_{p,q}^{2,2}}$ .  相似文献

For problems of transmission for higher-order equations with inhomogeneous conjugation conditions, we construct and investigate the corresponding operators in Hilbert spaces. We prove the self-adjointness of these operators for a spectral problem with a parameter in conjugation conditions.  相似文献

The treatment of certain electro- and magnetostatic boundary and transmission problems by boundary integral equations leads to parameter-dependent integral equations of the second kind. The integral operators involved have the property that the dimension of their nullspaces changes between two nonzero values (depending on the geometry of the problem) as the parameter tends to zero. We investigate the continuous dependence of solutions to these equations on the parameter. To this end, we treat the problem of continuous dependence of solutions to parameter-dependent linear operator equations of the second kind in a Banach space in the framework of generalized inverses.  相似文献

In this paper, we study a nonlinear first-order singularly perturbed Volterra integro-differential equation with delay. This equation is discretized by the backward Euler for differential part and the composite numerical quadrature formula for integral part for which both an a priori and an a posteriori error analysis in the maximum norm are derived. Based on the a priori error bound and mesh equidistribution principle, we prove that there exists a mesh gives optimal first order convergence which is robust with respect to the perturbation parameter. The a posteriori error bound is used to choose a suitable monitor function and design a corresponding adaptive grid generation algorithm. Furthermore, we extend our presented adaptive grid algorithm to a class of second-order nonlinear singularly perturbed delay differential equations. Numerical results are provided to demonstrate the effectiveness of our presented monitor function. Meanwhile, it is shown that the standard arc-length monitor function is unsuitable for this type of singularly perturbed delay differential equations with a turning point.  相似文献

We propose a new integral equation formulation to characterize and compute transmission eigenvalues for constant refractive index that play an important role in inverse scattering problems for penetrable media. As opposed to the recently developed approach by Cossonnière and Haddar [1,2] which relies on a two by two system of boundary integral equations our analysis is based on only one integral equation in terms of Dirichlet-to-Neumann or Robin-to-Dirichlet operators which results in a noticeable reduction of computational costs. We establish Fredholm properties of the integral operators and their analytic dependence on the wave number. Further we employ the numerical algorithm for analytic non-linear eigenvalue problems that was recently proposed by Beyn [3] for the numerical computation of transmission eigenvalues via this new integral equation.  相似文献

We consider a class of infinite delay equations in Banach spaces that models arising in the theory of viscoelasticity, for instance. The equation involves a completely monotone convolution kernel with a singularity at t = 0 and a sectorial linear spatial operator. Our main goal here is the construction of a semigroup formulation for the integral equation; in the last part of the paper, we illustrate the potentiality of the approach by considering a stochastic perturbation of the problem. Existence and uniqueness of a weak solution is established. The corresponding evolutionary solution process is Markovian, and the tools of linear analytic semigroup theory can be utilized.  相似文献

In this paper, we consider the problem of solving initial value problems and boundary value problems through the point of view of its continuous form. It is well known that in most cases these types of problems are solved numerically by performing a discretization and applying the finite difference technique to approximate the derivatives, transforming the equation into a finite-dimensional nonlinear system of equations. However, we would like to focus on the continuous problem, and therefore, we try to set the domain of existence and uniqueness for its analytic solution. For this purpose, we study the semilocal convergence of a Newton-type method with frozen first derivative in Banach spaces. We impose only the assumption that the Fréchet derivative satisfies the Lipschitz continuity condition and that it is bounded in the whole domain in order to obtain appropriate recurrence relations so that we may determine the domains of convergence and uniqueness for the solution. Our final aim is to apply these theoretical results to solve applied problems that come from integral equations, ordinary differential equations, and boundary value problems.  相似文献

We consider model three-dimensional wave nonlinear equations of Sobolev type with cubic sources, and foremost, model three-dimensional equations of Benjamin-Bona-Mahony and Rosenau types with model cubic sources. An essentially three-dimensional nonlinear equation of spin waves with cubic source is also studied. For these equations, we investigate the first initial boundary-value problem in a bounded domain with smooth boundary. We prove local solvability in the strong generalized sense and, for an equation of Benjamin-Bona-Mahony type with source, we prove the unique solvability of a “weakened” solution. We obtain sufficient conditions for the “destruction” of the solutions of the problems under consideration. These conditions have the sense of a “large” value of the initial perturbation in the norms of certain Banach spaces. Finally, for an equation of Benjamin-Bona-Mahony type, we prove the “failure” of a “weakened” solution in finite time.  相似文献

In this paper we propose and analyse numerical methods for the approximation of the solution of Helmholtz transmission problems in the half plane. The problems we deal with arise from the study of some models in photothermal science. The solutions to the problem are represented as single layer potentials and an equivalent system of boundary integral equations is derived. We then give abstract necessary and sufficient conditions for convergence of Petrov–Galerkin discretizations of the boundary integral system and show for three different cases that these conditions are satisfied. We extend the results to other situations not related to thermal science and to non-smooth interfaces. Finally, we propose a simple full discretization of a Petrov–Galerkin scheme with periodic spline spaces and show some numerical experiments.  相似文献

This article investigates backward stochastic Volterra integral equations in Hilbert spaces. The existence and uniqueness of their adapted solutions is reviewed. We establish the regularity of the adapted solutions to such equations by means of Malliavin calculus. For an application, we study an optimal control problem for a stochastic Volterra integral equation driven by a Hilbert space-valued fractional Brownian motion. A Pontryagin-type maximum principle is formulated for the problem and an example is presented.  相似文献

A common way to handle the Tikhonov regularization method for the first kind Fredholm integral equations, is first to discretize and then to work with the final linear system. This unavoidably inflicts discretization errors which may lead to disastrous results, especially when a quadrature rule is used. We propose to regularize directly the integral equation resulting in a continuous Tikhonov problem. The Tikhonov problem is reduced to a simple least squares problem by applying the Golub-Kahan bidiagonalization (GKB) directly to the integral operator. The regularization parameter and the iteration index are determined by the discrepancy principle approach. Moreover, we study the discrete version of the proposed method resulted from numerical evaluating the needed integrals. Focusing on the nodal values of the solution results in a weighted version of GKB-Tikhonov method for linear systems arisen from the Nyström discretization. Finally, we use numerical experiments on a few test problems to illustrate the performance of our algorithms.  相似文献

We propose a new integral equation formulation to characterize and compute transmission eigenvalues in electromagnetic scattering. As opposed to the approach that was recently developed by Cakoni, Haddar and Meng (2015) which relies on a two‐by‐two system of boundary integral equations, our analysis is based on only one integral equation in terms of the electric‐to‐magnetic boundary trace operator that results in a simplification of the theory and in a considerable reduction of computational costs. We establish Fredholm properties of the integral operators and their analytic dependence on the wave number. Further, we use the numerical algorithm for analytic nonlinear eigenvalue problems that was recently proposed by Beyn (2012) for the numerical computation of the transmission eigenvalues via this new integral equation.  相似文献

We consider coerciveness and Fredholmness of nonlocal boundary value problems for complete second order elliptic differential-operator equations in UMD Banach spaces. In some special cases, the main coefficients of the boundary conditions may be bounded operators and not only complex numbers. Then, we prove an isomorphism, in particular, maximal L p -regularity, of the problem with a linear parameter in the equation. In both cases, the boundary conditions may also contain unbounded operators in perturbation terms. Finally, application to regular nonlocal boundary value problems for elliptic equations of the second order in non-smooth domains are presented. Equations and boundary conditions may contain differential-integral parts. The spaces of solvability are Sobolev type spaces W p,q 2,2. This paper presents a volume integral equation method for an electromagnetic scattering problem for three-dimensional Maxwell's equations in the presence of a biperiodic, anisotropic, and possibly discontinuous dielectric scatterer. Such scattering problem can be reformulated as a strongly singular volume integral equation (i.e., integral operators that fail to be weakly singular). In this paper, we firstly prove that the strongly singular volume integral equation satisfies a Gårding-type estimate in standard Sobolev spaces. Secondly, we rigorously analyze a spectral Galerkin method for solving the scattering problem. This method relies on the periodization technique of Gennadi Vainikko that allows us to efficiently evaluate the periodized integral operators on trigonometric polynomials using the fast Fourier transform (FFT). The main advantage of the method is its simple implementation that avoids for instance the need to compute quasiperiodic Green's functions. We prove that the numerical solution of the spectral Galerkin method applied to the periodized integral equation converges quasioptimally to the solution of the scattering problem. Some numerical examples are provided for examining the performance of the method.  相似文献
