Modified synthesis of methyl (1R,2R,3E,5R)-3-(hydroxyimino)-5-methyl-2-(1-methylethyl)-cyclohexanecarboxylate from (R)-4-menthen-3-one

A modified stereospecific synthesis of potentially biologically and pharmacologically active methyl (1R,2R,3E,5R)-3-(hydroxyimino)-5-methyl-2-(1-methylethyl)cyclohexanecarboxylate from (R)-4-menthen-3-one was developed using sequential 1,4-conjugate addition of Norman reagent catalyzed by CuI?CBF₃?Et₂O?CCuCl₂ and ozonolysis?Creduction of the intermediate (R,R,R)-vinylmenthone by hydroxylamine hydrochloridein MeOH.

Novel dihydroiridium(III) complexes containing mono- and bi-dentate sulfur ligands have been isolated. The cationic complexes [Ir(COD)L₂]ClO₄ (COD = 1,5-cyclooctadiene, L = tetrahydrothiophene (tht) or trimethylene sulfide (tms); L₂ = (CH₃S)₂(CH₂)₃ (dth)), [Ir(COD)(L-L)]₂(ClO₄)₂ (L-L = 1,4-dithiacyclohexane (dt) or (t-BuS)₂(CH₂)₂ (tmdto)) and [Ir(CO)₂(tmdto)]₂-(ClO₄)₂ react with H₂ to give the corresponding iridium(III) dihydrides: [IrH₂COD)L₂]ClO₄ (Ia: L = tht, Ib: L = tms, Ic: L₂ = dth), [IrH₂(COD)-(L-L)]₂(ClO₄)₂ (IIa: L-L = tmdto, IIb: L-L = dt) and [IrH₂(CO)₂(tmdto)]₂-(ClO₄)₂ (III). The ¹H NMR chemical shifts and ν(IrH) data are discussed.     

Stereoselective synthesis of new (+)-1-{(1R,3R,6S)-4,7,7-trimethylbicyclo[4.1.0]hept-4-en-3-yl}ethan-1-one derivatives

A procedure was developed for the stereoselective synthesis of aminated derivatives of (+)-1-{(1R,3R,6S)-4,7,7-trimethylbicyclo[4.1.0]hept-4-en-3-yl}ethan-1-one. The configuration of the side-chain chiral center in (+)-1-{(1R,3R,6S)-4,7,7-trimethylbicyclo[4.1.0]hept-4-en-3-yl}ethan-1-ol was determined by X-ray analysis. Diketene and Meldrum’s acid were proposed as initial compounds for the synthesis of, respectively, 3-oxobutanoic and malonic acid esters having a 1-ethyl-4,7,7-trimethylbicyclo[4.1.0]hept-4-ene fragment.
