In the present work, we study the propagation of non-linear waves in an initially stressed thin elastic tube filled with an inviscid fluid. Considering the physiological conditions of the arteries, in the analysis, the tube is assumed to be subjected to a uniform inner pressure P0 and an axial stretch ratio λz. It is assumed that due to blood flow, a finite dynamical displacement field is superimposed on this static field and, then, the non-linear governing equations of the elastic tube are obtained. Using the reductive perturbation technique, the propagation of weakly non-linear waves in the longwave approximation is investigated. It is shown that the governing equations reduce to the Korteweg-deVries equation which admits a solitary wave solution. It is observed that the present model equations give two solitary wave solutions. The results are also discussed for some elastic materials existing in the literature.  相似文献

In this study, the effects of magnetic field and nanoparticle on the Jeffery-Hamel flow are studied using a powerful analytical method called the Adomian decomposition method (ADM). The traditional Navier-Stokes equation of fluid mechanics and Maxwell’s electromagnetism governing equations are reduced to nonlinear ordinary differential equations to model the problem. The obtained results are well agreed with that of the Runge-Kutta method. The present plots confirm that the method has high accuracy for different α, Ha, and Re numbers. The flow field inside the divergent channel is studied for various values of Hartmann number and angle of channel. The effect of nanoparticle volume fraction in the absence of magnetic field is investigated.  相似文献

A problem of regular (symmetric and asymmetric) interaction of plane shock waves in a steady-state dusty-gas flow is considered. The possibility of the formation of wave structures is revealed, in which either all or some of the incident or reflected waves degenerate into fully dispersed waves, i.e. zones in which the parameters of both phases vary continuously. Using the Rankine-Hugoniot relations for a one-velocity “effective-gas” model, the ranges of nondimensional governing parameters (the Mach number, the angles between the incident waves and the free stream, the phase specific-heat ratio, and the particle mass concentration) are found, which correspond to different wave configurations. In the framework of a two-fluid dusty-gas model, the flow structure in the region of symmetric interaction of the shocks is calculated numerically for typical configurations containing fully dispersed waves. The flow in the region of a normal fully dispersed wave is also calculated. Good agreement between the calculated wave structure and the data known in the literature is obtained. A range of governing parameters in which the carrier-phase temperature has a local maximum inside the wave structure is found.  相似文献

In the present work, the propagation of weakly non-linear waves in a prestressed thin viscoelastic tube filled with an incompressible inviscid fluid is studied. Considering that the arteries are initially subjected to a large static transmural pressure P0 and an axial stretch λz and, in the course of blood flow, a finite time-dependent displacement is added to this initial field, the governing non-linear equation of motion in the radial direction is obtained. Using the reductive perturbation technique, the propagation of weakly non-linear, dispersive and dissipative waves is examined and the evolution equations are obtained. Utilizing the same set of governing equations the amplitude modulation of weakly non-linear and dissipative but strongly dispersive waves is examined. The localized travelling wave solution to these field equations are also given.  相似文献

In the present article, we have studied the effects of inclined magnetic field on the peristaltic flow of Jeffrey fluid through the gap between two coaxial inclined tubes. The inner tube is rigid, whereas the outer tube has sinusoidal wave traveling down its wall. The governing equations are simplified using long wave length and low Reynolds number approximations. Exact and numerical solutions have been derived for velocity profile. The expressions for pressure rise and friction force are calculated using numerical integration. Graphical results and trapping phenomenon is presented at the end of the article to see the physical behavior of different parameters. Copyright © 2010 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.  相似文献

A refined membrane-like theory is used to describe bending of a semi-infinite pre-stressed incompressible elastic plate subjected to an instantaneous impulse loading at the edge. A far-field solution for the quasi-front is obtained by using the method of matched asymptotic expansions. A leading-order hyperbolic membrane equation is used for an outer problem, whereas a refined (singularly perturbed) membrane equation of an inner problem describes a boundary layer, which smoothes a discontinuity predicted by the outer problem at the wave front. The inner problem is then reduced to one-dimensional by an appropriate choice of inner coordinates, motivated by the wave front geometry. Using the inherent symmetry of the outer problem, a solution for the quasi-front is derived that is valid in a vicinity of the tip of the wave front. Pre-stress is shown to affect geometry and type of the generated quasi-front; in addition to a classical receding quasi-front the pre-stressed plate can support propagation of an advancing quasi-front. Possible responses may even feature both types of quasi-front at the same time, which is illustrated by numerical examples. The case of a so-called narrow quasi-front, associated with a possible degeneration of contribution of singular perturbation terms to the governing equation, is studied qualitatively.  相似文献

This study addresses the Brinkman-extended Darcy model (Brinkman flow) of a laminar free-convective flow in an annular porous region. Closed form expressions for Velocity field, Temperature field, Skin-friction and Mass flow rate are given, under a thermal boundary condition of mixed kind at the outer surface of the inner cylinder while the inner surface of the outer cylinder is isothermal. The governing independent parameters are identified to be Darcy number (Da) and ratio of outer to inner radii (R). It is hoped that the study of such flows gives limiting conditions for developing flows and provides an analytical check on numerical solutions for more complex problems dealing with non-Darcian free-convection flow in an annular region.  相似文献

Waves that occur at the surface of a falling film of thin power-law fluid on a vertical plane are investigated. Using the method of integral relations an evolution equation is derived for two types of waves equation which are possible under long wave approximation. This equation reveals the presence of both kinematic and dynamic wave processes which may either act together or singularly dominate the wave field depending on the order of different parameters. It is shown that, at a small flow rate, kinematic waves dominate the flow field and the energy is acquired from the mean flow during the interaction of the waves, while, for high flow rate, inertial waves dominate and the energy comes from the kinematic waves. It is also found that this exchange of energy between kinematic and inertial waves strongly depends on the power-law index n. Linear stability analysis predicts the contribution of different terms in the wave mechanism. Further, it is found that the surface tension plays a double role: for a kinematic wave process, it exerts dissipative effects so that a finite amplitude case may be established, but for a dynamic wave process it yields dispersion. Further, it is shown that the non-Newtonian character n plays a vital role in controlling the role of the term that contains surface tension in the above processes.  相似文献

A two‐phase flow model, which solves the flow in the air and water simultaneously, is presented for modelling breaking waves in deep and shallow water, including wave pre‐breaking, overturning and post‐breaking processes. The model is based on the Reynolds‐averaged Navier–Stokes equations with the k ?ε turbulence model. The governing equations are solved by the finite volume method in a Cartesian staggered grid and the partial cell treatment is implemented to deal with complex geometries. The SIMPLE algorithm is utilised for the pressure‐velocity coupling and the air‐water interface is modelled by the interface capturing method via a high resolution volume of fluid scheme. The numerical model is validated by simulating overturning waves on a sloping beach and over a reef, and deep‐water breaking waves in a periodic domain, in which good agreement between numerical results and available experimental measurements for the water surface profiles during wave overturning is obtained. The overturning jet, air entrainment and splash‐up during wave breaking have been captured by the two‐phase flow model, which demonstrates the capability of the model to simulate free surface flow and wave breaking problems.Copyright © 2011 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.  相似文献

Modulations of an internal gravity wave packet in a stratified shear flow are discussed in the weakly nonlinear and weakly dispersive context. It is shown that the modulations are described by a variable coefficient nonlinear Schrödinger equation when the modulations are confined to the direction of wave propagation. Transverse modulations couple the nonlinear Schrödinger equation to the mean flow equations. For long waves, it is shown that the modulation equations may be somewhat simplified. An Appendix describes the equations governing long wave resonance.  相似文献

Internal solitary waves moving over uneven bottoms are analyzed based on the reductive perturbation method, in which the amplitude, slope and horizontal lengthscale of a topography on the bottom are of the orders of , 5/2 and −3/2, respectively, where the small parameter is also a measure of the wave amplitude. A free surface condition is adopted at the top of the fluid layer. That condition contains two parameters, δ and Δ, the first of which concerns the discontinuity of the basic density between the outer layer and the inner one; the second concerns the discontinuity of the mean density between them. An amplitude equation for the disturbance of order decomposes into a Korteweg-de Vries (KdV) equation and a system of algebraic equations for a stationary disturbance around a topography on the bottom. Solitary waves moving over a localized hill are studied in a simple case where both the basic flow speed and the Brunt-Vaisalla frequency are constant over the fluid layer. For this case, the expression for the amplitude of the stationary disturbance contains singular points with respect to basic flow speed. These singularities correspond to the resonant conditions modified by the free surface condition. The advancing speeds of solitary waves are changed by the influence of bottom topography, in a case where the long internal waves propagate in the direction opposite to the basic flow, but their waveforms remain almost unchanged.  相似文献

We investigate theoretically inertial waves inside a liquid confined between two co-rotating coaxial cylinders of finite length. We consider the case of small viscosity and high angular velocity (i.e., small Ekman numbers), a parameter range of interest for many geophysical applications. In this case, inertial waves propagating in the container show multiple reflections at the walls before the waves can be damped by weak diffusion. We allow for the inner cylinder wall to be parallel or inclined with respect to the annulus’ vector of rotation (truncated cone). For the limit of zero viscosity, the wave propagation is governed by a boundary value problem that is composed of a linear second-order hyperbolic partial differential equation and the impermeability boundary conditions. For the special case of vertical cylinder walls (no inclination of the inner cylinder), this boundary value problem is separable, the corresponding eigenmodes can analytically be found and they are regular. However, when the inner cylinder wall is inclined, the hyperbolicity of the governing equation leads to internal shear layers (corresponding to singularities for the inviscid case). The geometrical structure of the shear layers can be explained by inertial waves, trapped on limit cycles denoted as wave attractors. The shape of the limit cycles depends on the wave frequency. In fact, the spectrum of regular modes, existing for the case of vertical cylinder walls, vanishes almost completely when the inner wall is inclined. Instead of a spectrum of discrete frequencies and regular eigenmodes, a spectrum of wave attractor frequency bands and singular eigenmodes exist. The question addressed here is whether the spectrum of wave attractor intervals collapses to the discrete frequency spectrum when the inclination angle of the inner cylinder goes to zero. To answer this question, the attractor frequency intervals are evaluated numerically for a series of decreasing cylinder inclination angles and are compared with the analytically found eigenspectrum for the case of zero inclination. Goal is to better understand the asymptotic behavior of the problem for decreasing inclination angles. This understanding helps to interpret results from laboratory experiments with geometries that differ from the perfect annulus with parallel cylinder walls.  相似文献

Abstract. This paper reports on the characteristics of a compact vertical diaphragmless shock tube, which was constructed and tested in the Shock Wave Research Center to study experimentally the behavior of toroidal shock waves. It is 1.15 m in height and has a self-sustained co-axial vertical structure consisting of a 100 mm i.d. outer tube and an 80 mm o.d. inner tube. To create a ring shaped shock wave between the inner and outer tubes, a rubber sheet is inserted to separate a high pressure driver gas from a test gas, which is bulged with auxiliary high pressure helium from the behind. When the rubber membrane is contracted by the sudden release of the auxiliary gas so as to break the seal, shock waves are formed. Special design features of the shock tube are described and their role in producing repeatable shock waves is discussed. Its special opening characteristics make possible the production of annular shaped shock waves that are unlikely met with a conventional tube that uses rupturing diaphragms. Performance of the shock tube is evaluated in terms of the shock wave Mach numbers and the measured flow properties. It eventually showed a higher degree of repeatability and the scatter in the shock wave Mach numbers Ms was found to be 0.2% for Ms ranging from 1.1 to 1.8. The shock wave Mach number so far measured agreed very well with the simple shock tube theory. Received 3 February 1999 / Accepted 6 April 2000  相似文献

The Darcy Model with the Boussinesq approximation is used to study natural convection in a horizontal annular porous layer filled with a binary fluid, under the influence of a centrifugal force field. Neumann boundary conditions for temperature and concentration are applied on the inner and outer boundary of the enclosure. The governing parameters for the problem are the Rayleigh number, Ra, the Lewis number, Le, the buoyancy ratio, j{\varphi } , the radius ratio of the cavity, R, the normalized porosity, e{\varepsilon } , and parameter a defining double-diffusive convection (a = 0) or Soret induced convection (a = 1). For convection in a thin annular layer (R → 1), analytical solutions for the stream function, temperature and concentration fields are obtained using a concentric flow approximation and an integral form of the energy equation. The critical Rayleigh number for the onset of supercritical convection is predicted explicitly by the present model. Also, results are obtained from the analytical model for finite amplitude convection for which the flow and heat and mass transfer are presented in terms of the governing parameters of the problem. Numerical solutions of the full governing equations are obtained for a wide range of the governing parameters. A good agreement is observed between the analytical model and the numerical simulations.  相似文献

In this paper, we investigate the propagation characteristics of elastic guided waves in FGM spherical shells with exponentially graded material in the radial direction. A new separation of variables technique to displacements is proposed to convert the governing equations of the wave motion to the second-order ordinary differential equations with variable coefficients. By further a variables transform technique, these equations are transformed to the Whittaker equations so that analytic solutions can be obtained. For the spherical shell case, by satisfying the traction-free boundary conditions on both the inner and outer surfaces of the shell, we obtain the dispersion equations, which show that both the SH and Lamb-type wave modes are generated in the structure. The calculated dispersion curves in the functionally graded shell demonstrate a clear influence of the gradient coefficient as compared to those of the homogeneous shell, with the Lamb-type waves more sensitive to the gradient coefficient. The mode shapes and the distributions of stresses in the shells for various gradient coefficients are also presented to illustrate their dependence on the gradient coefficient.  相似文献

Transient analysis has been investigated numerically to determine heat transfer by natural convection between concentric and vertically eccentric spheres with constant heat flux on the inner wall and a specified isothermal temperature on the outer wall. The governing equations, in terms of vorticity, stream function and temperature are expressed in a spherical polar coordinate system. The alternating direction implicit method and the successive over-relaxation techniques are applied to solve the finite difference form of governing equations. A physical model is introduced which accounts for the effects of fluid buoyancy as well as eccentricity of the outer sphere. Transient solutions of the entire flow field are obtained for a range of modified Rayleigh number (103<Ra?<5×105), for a Prandtl number of 0.7 and a radius ratio of 2.0, with the outer sphere near the top and bottom of the inner sphere (ε=±0.625). Results of the parametric study conducted further reveal that the heat and flow fields are primarily dependent on the modified Rayleigh number and the eccentricity of the spherical annulus. The results of average Nusselt numbers are also compared with the results obtained for flow between two isothermal spheres.  相似文献

We construct exact solutions to an unusual nonlinear advection–diffusion equation arising in the study of Taylor–Aris (also known as shear) dispersion due to electroosmotic flow during electromigration in a capillary. An exact reduction to a Darboux equation is found under a traveling-wave ansatz. The equilibria of this ordinary differential equation are analyzed, showing that their stability is determined solely by the (dimensionless) wave speed without regard to any (dimensionless) physical parameters. Integral curves, connecting the appropriate equilibria of the Darboux equation that governs traveling waves, are constructed, which in turn are shown to be asymmetric kink solutions (i.e., non-Taylor shocks). Furthermore, it is shown that the governing Darboux equation exhibits bistability, which leads to two coexisting non-negative kink solutions for (dimensionless) wave speeds greater than unity. Finally, we give some remarks on other types of traveling-wave solutions and a discussion of some approximations of the governing partial differential equation of electromigration dispersion.  相似文献

Marangoni-Bénard convection is the process by which oscillatory waves are generated on an interface due to a change in surface tension. This process, which can be mass or temperature driven is described by a perturbed Korteweg-de Vries (KdV) equation. The evolution and interaction of solitary waves generated by Marangoni-Bénard convection is examined. The solitary wave with steady-state amplitude, which occurs when the excitation and friction terms of the perturbed KdV equation are in balance is found to second-order in the perturbation parameter. This solitary wave has a fixed amplitude, which depends on the coefficients of the perturbation terms in the governing equation. The evolution of a solitary wave of arbitrary amplitude to the steady-state amplitude is also found, to first-order in the perturbation parameter. In addition, by using a perturbation method based on inverse scattering, it is shown that the interaction of two solitary waves is not elastic with the change in wave amplitude determined. Numerical solutions of the perturbed KdV equation are presented and compared to the asymptotic solutions.  相似文献

The present study addresses experimental results for investigating the details of the near field flow characteristics produced in an under-expanded, dual, coaxial, swirling jet. The under-expanded swirling jet is discharged from a sonic inner nozzle. An outer annular nozzle produces co- and counter-swirling streams relative to the inner primary swirling jet. The interaction between both the outer annular swirling stream and inner under-expanded swirling jet is quantified by impact and static pressure measurements, and visualized by using the shadowgraph method. Experiments are performed for several different pressure ratios. The results show that the outer secondary co-swirling jet significantly changes the structure of the inner under-expanded swirling jet, such as the shock structures and the recirculation region generated at the jet axis. The effect of the outer secondary stream on the major structures of the inner primary swirling jet is strongly dependent on the pressure ratio of the inner swirling jet, regardless of the swirl direction of the outer stream.Received: 17 May 2004, Accepted: 27 September 2004, Published online: 26 November 2004[/PUBLISHED]H.D.
