We prove a uniqueness theorem for solutions of two-point boundary value problems, which says that when the nonlinearity is sublinear and Lipschitzian, and one of the boundary values is fixed, then for sufficiently large values of the other boundary value there is a unique solution of the problem. The proof is based on the Banach's fixed-point theorem, and the argument used to show that the relevant operator is a contraction makes use of a generalization of the Riemann-Lebesgue lemma  相似文献

In this paper, we consider the nonlinear boundary value problem (BVP) for the electrohydrodynamic flow of a fluid in an ion drag configuration in a circular cylindrical conduit. We present analytical solutions based on the homotopy analysis method (HAM) for various values of the relevant parameters and discuss the convergence of these solutions. We also compare our results with numerical solutions. The results provide another example of a highly nonlinear problem in which HAM is the only known analytical method that yields convergent solutions for all values of the relevant parameters.  相似文献

In this paper, we consider a mixed boundary value problem to a class of nonlinear operators containing $p(\cdot )$-Laplacian. More precisely, we are concerned with the problem with the Dirichlet condition on a part of the boundary and the Steklov boundary condition on an another part of the boundary. We show the existence of at least three weak solutions under some hypotheses on given functions and the values of parameters.  相似文献

A nonlinear loaded differential equation with a parameter on a finite interval is studied. The interval is partitioned by the load points, at which the values of the solution to the equation are set as additional parameters. A nonlinear boundary value problem for the considered equation is reduced to a nonlinear multipoint boundary value problem for the system of nonlinear ordinary differential equations with parameters. For fixed parameters, we obtain the Cauchy problems for ordinary differential equations on the subintervals. Substituting the values of the solutions to these problems into the boundary condition and continuity conditions at the partition points, we compose a system of nonlinear algebraic equations in parameters. A method of solving the boundary value problem with a parameter is proposed. The method is based on finding the solution to the system of nonlinear algebraic equations composed.  相似文献

We write formulas for soliton solutions of the discrete Toda chain and pose the integrable boundary value problem for this chain. We find conditions for the parameters (discrete spectrum points, transmission coefficients, and the corresponding factors) whereby solutions of the integrable boundary value problem are selected from all soliton solutions. In this article, we reconsider the mixed boundary value problem on the unit circle for a pair of metaanalytic and analytic functions as in Du and Wang (2008) [9]. By adopting appropriate transformations, we convert the problem into two independent boundary value problems for analytic functions. We then obtain expressions of solution and condition of solvability for the mixed boundary value problem. The forms of the solutions and the condition of solvability here are rather dissimilar to those in Du and Wang (2008) [9]. But the equivalence is established at the end of this article.  相似文献

A rigorous mathematical analysis is given for a magnetohydrodynamics boundary layer problem, which arises in the two-dimensional steady laminar boundary layer flow for an incompressible electrically conducting power-law fluid along a stretching flat sheet in the presence of an exterior magnetic field orthogonal to the flow. In the self-similar case, the problem is transformed into a third-order nonlinear ordinary differential equation with certain boundary conditions, which is proved to be equivalent to a singular initial value problem for an integro-differential equation of first order. With the aid of the singular initial value problem, the uniqueness and existence results for (generalized) normal solutions are established and some properties of these solutions are explored.  相似文献

We study two-dimensional stationary and nonstationary boundary value problems of fluid filtration in an anisotropic inhomogeneous porous layer whose conductivity is modeled by a not necessarily symmetric tensor. For the velocity field, we introduce generalized singular Cauchy and Cauchy type integrals whose kernels are expressed via the leading solutions of the main equations and have a hydrodynamic interpretation. We obtain the limit values of a Cauchy type generalized integral (Sokhotskii-Plemelj generalized formulas). This permits one to develop a method for solving boundary value problems for the filtration velocity field. The idea of the method and its efficiency are illustrated for the boundary value problem of filtration in adjacent layers of distinct conductivities and the problem of the evolution of liquid interface.  相似文献

The value of a European option satisfies the Black-Scholes equation with appropriately specified final and boundary conditions.We transform the problem to an initial boundary value problem in dimensionless form.There are two parameters in the coefficients of the resulting linear parabolic partial differential equation.For a range of values of these parameters,the solution of the problem has a boundary or an initial layer.The initial function has a discontinuity in the first-order derivative,which leads to the appearance of an interior layer.We construct analytically the asymptotic solution of the equation in a finite domain.Based on the asymptotic solution we can determine the size of the artificial boundary such that the required solution in a finite domain in x and at the final time is not affected by the boundary.Also,we study computationally the behaviour in the maximum norm of the errors in numerical solutions in cases such that one of the parameters varies from finite (or pretty large) to small values,while the other parameter is fixed and takes either finite (or pretty large) or small values. Crank-Nicolson explicit and implicit schemes using centered or upwind approximations to the derivative are studied.We present numerical computations,which determine experimentally the parameter-uniform rates of convergence.We note that this rate is rather weak,due probably to mixed sources of error such as initial and boundary layers and the discontinuity in the derivative of the solution.  相似文献

The existence of stationary radial solutions to a partial differential equation arising in the theory of epitaxial growth is studied. It turns out that the existence or not of such solutions depends on the size of a parameter that plays the role of the velocity at which mass is introduced into the system. For small values of this parameter, we prove the existence of solutions to this boundary value problem. For large values of the same parameter, we prove the nonexistence of solutions. We also provide rigorous bounds for the values of this parameter, which separate existence from nonexistence. The proofs come as a combination of several differential inequalities and the method of upper and lower functions applied to an associated two‐point boundary value problem. We consider a convective flow in a porous medium of an incompressible viscous conducting fluid impinging on a permeable stretching surface with suction, and internal heat generation/absorption. Using a similarity transformation the governing equations of the problem are reduced to a coupled third-order nonlinear ordinary differential equations. We first examine a number of special cases for which we may obtain exact solutions. We then obtain analytical solutions (by the Homotopy Analysis Method) and numerical solutions (by a boundary value problem solver), in order to further study the behavior of the nonlinear differential equations, for various values of the physical parameters. Our numerical solutions are shown to agree with the available results in the literature. We then employ the numerical results to bring out the effects of the suction parameter, heat source/sink parameter, stretching parameter, porosity parameter, the Prandtl number and the free convection parameter on the flow and heat transfer characteristics. In the absence of suction and free convection, our findings are in agreement with the corresponding numerical results of Attia [H.A. Attia, On the effectiveness of porosity on stagnation point flow towards a stretching surface with heat generation, Comput. Mater. Sci. 38 (2007) 741-745].  相似文献
