On some properties of functions of generalized variation

We show that the spaceV ^* generated by a -variation (or -variation of Riesz, or -variation of Waterman) forms a commutative Banach algebra with respect to the pointwise multiplication under the appropriate choice of norms.     

Certain geometric properties of the Mittag-Leffler functions

In the present investigation, the Mittag-Leffler functions with their normalization are considered. Several sufficient conditions are obtained so that the Mittag-Leffler functions have certain geometric properties including univalency, starlikeness, convexity and close-to-convexity in the open unit disk. Partial sums of Mittag-Leffler functions are also studied. The results obtained are new and their usefulness is depicted by deducing several interesting corollaries and examples.     

On some properties of digamma and polygamma functions

In this note we present some new and structural inequalities for digamma, polygamma and inverse polygamma functions. We also extend, generalize and refine some known inequalities for these important functions.     

On some geometric and topological properties of generalized Orlicz–Lorentz sequence spaces

Generalized Orlicz–Lorentz sequence spaces λ_φ generated by Musielak‐Orlicz functions φ satisfying some growth and regularity conditions (see [28] and [33]) are investigated. A regularity condition δ^λ ₂ for φ is defined in such a way that it guarantees many positive topological and geometric properties of λ_φ. The problems of the Fatou property, the order continuity and the Kadec–Klee property with respect to the uniform convergence of the space λ_φ are considered. Moreover, some embeddings between λ_φ and their two subspaces are established and strict monotonicity as well as lower and upper local uniform monotonicities are characterized. Finally, necessary and sufficient conditions for rotundity of λ_φ, their subspaces of order continuous elements and finite dimensional subspaces are presented. On the classification of geometric codes by polynomial functions

It is shown how to represent algebraically all functions that have a zero sum on all -dimensional subspaces ofPG(n,q) or ofAG(n,q). In this way one can calculate the dimensions of related codes, or one can represent interesting sets of points by functions.     

Localization properties of highly singular generalized functions

We study the localization properties of generalized functions defined on a broad class of spaces of entire analytic test functions. This class, which includes all Gelfand-Shilov spaces S _α ^β (R ^k ) with β < 1, provides a convenient language for describing quantum fields with a highly singular infrared behavior. We show that the carrier cone notion, which replaces the support notion, can be correctly defined for the considered analytic functionals. On the topology of isoparametric hypersurfaces with four distinct principal curvatures

Let be the pair of multiplicities of an isoparametric hypersurface in the unit sphere with four distinct principal curvatures -w.r.g., we assume that . In the present paper we prove that, in the case 4B2 of U. Abresch (Math. Ann. 264 (1983), 283-302) (i.e., where ), must be either 2 or 4. As a by-product, we prove that the focal manifold of an isoparametric hypersurface is homeomorphic to a bundle over if one of the following conditions holds: (1) and or ; (2) and . This generalizes partial results of Wang (1988) about the topology of Clifford type examples. Consequently, the hypersurface is homeomorphic to an iterated sphere bundle under the above condition.

     

On some properties of the Gamma function

Anderson and Qiu (1997) conjectured that the function is concave for 1$">. In this paper we prove this conjecture. We also study the monotonicity of some functions connected with the psi-function and derive inequalities for and .

     

Mapping properties of the zero-balanced hypergeometric functions

In this paper, the order of convexity of $z_2{F}_1(a,b;c;z)$ is given under certain conditions on the positive real parameters a, b and c. We show also that the image domains of the unit disc $\mathbb{D}$ under some shifted zero-balanced hypergeometric functions $z_2{F}_1(a,b;a+b;z)$ are convex and bounded by two horizontal lines. This solves a problem raised by Ponnusamy and Vuorinen in [10].     

On some properties of the gamma function

In this paper we prove a complete monotonicity theorem and establish some upper and lower bounds for the gamma function in terms of digamma and polygamma functions.     

New class of generating functions associated with generalized hypergeometric polynomials

In this paper authors prove a general theorem on generating relations for a certain sequence of functions. Many formulas involving the families of generating functions for generalized hypergeometric polynomials are shown here to be special cases of a general class of generating functions involving generalized hypergeometric polynomials and multiple hypergeometric series of several variables. It is then shown how the main result can be applied to derive a large number of generating functions involving hypergeometric functions of Kampé de Fériet, Srivastava, Srivastava-Daoust, Chaundy, Fasenmyer, Cohen, Pasternack, Khandekar, Rainville and other multiple Gaussian hypergeometric polynomials scattered in the literature of special functions.     

Lipschitz properties of nonsmooth functions and set-valued mappings via generalized differentiation

In this paper, we revisit the Mordukhovich subdifferential criterion for Lipschitz continuity of nonsmooth functions and the coderivative criterion for the Aubin/Lipschitz-like property of set-valued mappings in finite dimensions. The criteria are useful and beautiful results in modern variational analysis showing the state of the art of the field. As an application, we establish necessary and sufficient conditions for Lipschitz continuity of the minimal time function and the scalarization function, which play an important role in many aspects of nonsmooth analysis and optimization.     

On a covariance structure of some subset of self-similar Gaussian processes

We introduce a class of self-similar Gaussian processes and provide sufficient and necessary conditions for a member of the class to admit a unique small scale limit in the Skorokhod space. The class includes several well known processes. An example of application to the problem of estimation is given.     

On the integral characterization of some generalized quasiregular mappings and the significance of the conditions of divergence of integrals in the geometric theory of functions

The paper deals with the theory of space mappings. For a generalization of quasiregular mappings important for the investigation of the Sobolev and other known classes of mappings, we propose a simple condition satisfied by all mappings of this kind and only by these mappings. On the basis of conditions of divergence of the integrals, we establish sufficient conditions for the normality of the families of the analyzed classes of mappings and solve the problem of removing isolated singularities. Some applications of the obtained results to mappings from the Sobolev class are discussed.     

On the stability of some functional equations for generalized hyperbolic functions and for the generalized cosine equation

Two stability results concerning a system of functional equations for generalized hyperbolic and trigonometric functions on the one hand, and a generalized cosine equation on the other hand are presented.
