On the basis of the theory of coupled waves the amplitudes of the first-order diffracted waves and the diffraction efficiency is calculated for sequentially superposed phase gratings stored in dielectric reflection holograms. The investigations are restricted to the case of a fixed reference wave during recording and Bragg-angle incidence.By analogy to the transmission volume grating the coupling effects which appear between incident beams and diffracted waves give the possibility of building up beam-couplers and -splitters with certain coupling parameters determined by the recording process. Moreover, reflection gratings allow a favourable combination between coupling and reflecting properties and avoid the diffraction efficiency oscillations that are characteristic of transmission gratings. The performance of the reconstruction process with several waves simultaneously allows the tuning of the intensities of diffracted waves with dependence on amplitude or phase differences between incident beams.  相似文献

The problems related to noise that arise during recording and reconstruction of holograms used in optical data storage or in massive optical interconnection systems are quite similar and can be analyzed in order to improve the quality of the images that these optical systems provide. In this paper, we will analyze noise in cases in which several coherent object waves are simultaneously stored in a phase recording material in a way that allows us to obtain information about the relationship that exists between the recording material and the number of waves that are being stored. The material used in this study is Agfa Gevaert 8E75 HD holographic film processed with a rehalogenating—type bleach bath without a fixation step. Additionally, we show experimentally that it is possible to holographically store more than 400 waves at the same time (in a coherent fashion) using the same storage geometry, with a signal-to-noise ratio larger than 20 and an average diffraction efficiency of 15%.  相似文献

In contrast to previous models diffraction efficiencies of evanescent-wave holograms are calculated within the framework of a slab model that takes into account the finite thickness of the recording medium. This modification leads to characteristic diffraction efficiency oscillations with respect to reconstruction angle and medium thickness as well. One obtains higher diffraction efficiency maxima and pseudo-optical tunnelling. The analysis covers TE-polarized fields.  相似文献

The diffraction efficiency of M holograms superimposed in the volume of the recording medium is proportional to 1/M(2). We present a method, based on nondestructive localized holograms in a doubly doped LiNbO(3) crystal, that allows us to also record M holograms in the same volume without an exposure schedule or a diffraction efficiency that has 1/M dependence. We compare experimentally the final diffraction efficiency obtained with the localized and distributed recording methods.  相似文献

Coupled wave equations that consider two-dimensional distribution and phases of gratings are derived by using weak grating and slow varying approximation. The result of angular selectivity on rand binary data page shows that each minimum is nonzero and each maximum that is not the middle maximum is a little bit smaller than that on plane wave volume hologram. Angular multiplexing is also modeled using the same method, and the middle page is read out in two different angular spacings. The relationship about PSNR versus angular spacing at different multiplexing pages is analyzed to reflect crosstalk between pages. All simulative results show this method is effective for volume holograms simulation.  相似文献

Computer-generated binary holograms are written on a polished copper surface using single 800-nm, 120-fs pulses from a 1-kHz-repetition-rate laser system. The hologram efficiency (i.e. the power in the holographic reconstructed image relative to the incoming laser power) is investigated for different laser-structuring parameters. Theoretical diffraction grating efficiencies for a binary amplitude grating show good agreement with the experimental measurements for diameters of the laser-formed holes below the pitch. Modelling based on straightforward geometrical arguments is used to find the optimal hole size. For a coverage (i.e. relative laser-structured area) of ~43 %, the efficiency reaches ~10 %, which corresponds to a relative power transferred to one reconstructed image of ~20 %. The efficiency as a function of pitch (for fixed coverage) is fairly constant from 2 to 6 μm.  相似文献

We inv estigate the problem in which a volume hologram is produced by two waves of arbitrary amplitude and phase distribution (the only restriction being that they must obey the rules of geometrical optics), and the developed hologram is illuminated by one of the waves having the same phase distribution but not necessarily the same amplitude distribution. Coupled partial differential equations are derived and solved in the form of an infinite series valid for both transmission and reflection holograms. For transmission holograms a simple approximate solution is given for the amplitude of the reconstructed wave in the immediate vicinity of the input surface.  相似文献

Signal distortion noise in volume phase holograms is analysed for the case in which the object beam consists of two plane waves. It is shown that, for a given (on-Bragg) signal diffraction efficiency, the magnitude of the signal distortion noise is inversely proportional to the square of crystal thickness. Furthermore, as a function of the angular position of the reconstruction beam, the signal distortion noise has two peaks: one at the Bragg angle and the other at a deviation 0 from the Bragg angle, where 0 is a function of relative angles between the components of the object beam and the reference beam. The on-Bragg peak of the signal distortion noise is experimentally located for volume phase holograms recorded in Fe-doped LiNbO3. The measured angular position is found to be in accord with the calculated value.  相似文献

Diffraction efficiencies of 70% have been reported for planar gratings in silver halide emulsion. The main obstacle in increasing the efficiency is the granular structure of the recording material which causes scattering of the input light both at recording and at reconstruction. This study concentrates on the effect of noise gratings recorded when the incident beam interferes with its own scattered radiation. The experimental evaluation is divided into two parts. Firstly, one single beam is used for recording a holographic plate, and the transmitted intensity of the reconstructing beam illuminating the developed hologram is measured as a function of incident angle and wavelength. Dips in the measured intensity are associated with the reconstruction of a strong scattered beam. Secondly, a main grating is recorded by two incident beams, which also interfere with the field scattered by the grains and give rise to noise gratings. When a beam is incident upon the developed hologram at the same angle and wavelength as one of the recording beams then besides the desired beam the scattered radiation is also reconstructed. This may reduce the otherwise available efficiency by several percent.  相似文献

We define computer-generated volume holograms (CGVHs) as arbitrary 3D refractive index modulations designed to perform optical functions based on diffraction, scattering, and interference phenomena. CGVHs can differ dramatically from classical volume holograms in terms of coding possibilities, and from thin computer-generated holograms in terms of efficiency and selectivity. We propose an encoding technique for designing such holograms and demonstrate the concept by scanning focused femtosecond laser pulses to produce localized refractive index modifications in glass. These CGVHs show a significant increase in efficiency with thickness. Consequently, they are attractive for photonic integration with free-space and guided-wave devices, as well as for encoding spatial and temporal information.  相似文献

Shifts in the thickness and the refractive-index of holographic recording materials occur naturally, degrading the performance of volume holograms, and reflection-type holograms in particular. In this study, pre-compensated design formulae are derived to correct these effects in fabricating volume reflection holograms. The experimental results are highly consistent with the theory. This method is also applicable to other phase media when the associated film shrinkage and refractive-index shift data are experimentally determined.  相似文献

Polarization volume holograms are recorded in the polymethylmethacrylate layers that contain phenanthrenequinone at a molar content of 2.5–3%. The effect of the polarization of recording beams on the kinetics of diffraction efficiency and properties of holograms is analyzed. Polarization hologram recording in the polymethylmethacrylate layers with phenanthrenequinone and a relatively high optical stability of the holograms are demonstrated.  相似文献
