An existence result for semilinear elliptic problems whose associated functionals do not satisfy a Palais-Smale condition is proved. The nonlinearity of our problem fits none of the conditions in Ambrosetti and Rabinowitz (J. Funct. Anal. 14 (1973) 349), de Figueiredo et al. (J. Math. Pures Appl. 61 (1982) 41) and Gidas and Spruck (Comm. Part. Diff. Eq. 6 (1981) 883). Some truncation happens to be essential, and in the argument some new results on Liouville-type theorems are established.  相似文献

Starting from Macdonald's summation formula of Hall-Littlewood polynomials over bounded partitions and its even partition analogue, Stembridge (Trans. Amer. Math. Soc., 319(2), (1990) 469–498) derived sixteen multiple q-identities of Rogers–Ramanujan type. Inspired by our recent results on Schur functions (Adv. Appl. Math., 27, (2001) 493–509) and based on computer experiments we obtain two further such summation formulae of Hall-Littlewood polynomials over bounded partitions and derive six new multiple q-identities of Rogers–Ramanujan type. 2000 Mathematics Subject Classification: Primary–05A19; Secondary–05A17, 05A30  相似文献

In this short note, we consider attenuant cycles of population models. This study concerns the second conjecture of Cushing and Henson [A periodically forced Beverton-Holt equation, J. Diff. Eq. Appl., 8 (2002), pp. 1119–1120], which was recently resolved affirmatively by Elaydi and Sacker [Global stability of periodic orbits of nonautonomous difference equations in population biology and the Cushing-Henson conjectures, Proc. 8th Inter. Conf. Diff. Eq., Brno, (in press)]. They showed that the periodic fluctuations in the carrying capacity always reduce the average of population densities in the Beverton-Holt equation. We extend this result and give a class of population models in which the periodic fluctuations in the carrying capacity always reduce the average of population densities.  相似文献

We establish sharp L 2-Sobolev estimates for classes of pseudodifferential operators with singular symbols [Guillemin and Uhlmann (Duke Math J 48:251–267, 1981), Melrose and Uhlmann (Commun Pure Appl Math 32:483–519, 1979)] whose non-pseudodifferential (Fourier integral operator) parts exhibit two-sided fold singularities. The operators considered include both singular integral operators along curves in \mathbb R2{\mathbb R^2} with simple inflection points and normal operators arising in linearized seismic imaging in the presence of fold caustics [Felea (Comm PDE 30:1717–1740, 2005), Felea and Greenleaf (Comm PDE 33:45–77, 2008), Nolan (SIAM J Appl Math 61:659–672, 2000)].  相似文献

The purpose of this paper is to study the weak convergence problems of the irnplicity iteration process for Lipschitzian pseudocontraction semigroups in general Banach spaces. The results presented in this paper extend and improve the corresponding results of Zhou [Nonlinear Anal., 68, 2977-2983 (2008)], Chen, et ah [J. Math. Anal. We derive a two-dimensional model for elastic plates as a Γ-limit of three-dimensional nonlinear elasticity with the constraint of incompressibility. The resulting model describes plate bending, and is determined from the isochoric elastic moduli of the three-dimensional problem. Without the constraint of incompressibility, a plate theory was first derived by Friesecke et al. (Comm Pure Appl Math 55:1461–1506, 2002). We extend their result to the case of p growth at infinity with p ϵ [1, 2), and to the case of incompressible materials. The main difficulty is the construction of a recovery sequence which satisfies the nonlinear constraint pointwise. One main ingredient is the density of smooth isometries in W 2,2 isometries, which was obtained by Pakzad (J Differ Geom 66:47–69, 2004) for convex domains and by Hornung (Comptes Rendus Mathematique 346:189–192, 2008) for piecewise C 1 domains.  相似文献

In this paper we find estimates for the optimal constant in the critical Sobolev trace inequality that are independent of Ω. This estimates generalized those of Adimurthi and Yadava (Comm Partial Diff Equ 16(11):1733–1760, 1991) for general p. Here p * : =  p(N  −  1)/(N  −  p) is the critical exponent for the immersion and N is the space dimension. Then we apply our results first to prove existence of positive solutions to a nonlinear elliptic problem with a nonlinear boundary condition with critical growth on the boundary, generalizing the results of Fernández Bonder and Rossi (Bull Lond Math Soc 37:119–125, 2005). We show the blow-up of smooth solutions to a non-isothermal model of capillary compressible fluids in arbitrary space dimensions with initial density of compact support. This is an extension of Xin’s result [Xin, Z.: Blow-up of smooth solutions to the compressible Navier-Stokes equations with compact density. Comm. Pure Appl. Math., 51, 229–240 (1998)] to the capillary case but we do not need the condition that the entropy is bounded below. Moreover, from the proof of Theorem 1.2, we also obtain the exact relationship between the size of support of the initial density and the life span of the solutions. We also present a sufficient condition on the blow-up of smooth solutions to the compressible fluid models of Korteweg type when the initial density is positive but has a decay at infinity.  相似文献

This paper devotes to analyzing deconvolution algorithms based on wavelet frame approaches, which has already appeared in Chan et al. (SIAM J. Sci. Comput. 24(4), 1408–1432, 2003; Appl. Comput. Hormon. Anal. 17, 91–115, 2004a; Int. J. Imaging Syst. Technol. 14, 91–104, 2004b) as wavelet frame based high resolution image reconstruction methods. We first give a complete formulation of deconvolution in terms of multiresolution analysis and its approximation, which completes the formulation given in Chan et al. (SIAM J. Sci. Comput. 24(4), 1408–1432, 2003; Appl. Comput. Hormon. Anal. 17, 91–115, 2004a; Int. J. Imaging Syst. Technol. 14, 91–104, 2004b). This formulation converts deconvolution to a problem of filling the missing coefficients of wavelet frames which satisfy certain minimization properties. These missing coefficients are recovered iteratively together with a built-in denoising scheme that removes noise in the data set such that noise in the data will not blow up while iterating. This approach has already been proven to be efficient in solving various problems in high resolution image reconstructions as shown by the simulation results given in Chan et al. (SIAM J. Sci. Comput. 24(4), 1408–1432, 2003; Appl. Comput. Hormon. Anal. 17, 91–115, 2004a; Int. J. Imaging Syst. Technol. 14, 91–104, 2004b). However, an analysis of convergence as well as the stability of algorithms and the minimization properties of solutions were absent in those papers. This paper is to establish the theoretical foundation of this wavelet frame approach. In particular, a proof of convergence, an analysis of the stability of algorithms and a study of the minimization property of solutions are given.  相似文献

We show the close connection between apparently different Galois theories for comodules introduced recently in [J. Gomez-Torrecillas and J. Vercruysse, Comatrix corings and Galois Comodules over firm rings, Algebr. Represent. Theory, 10 (2007), 271 306] and [Wisbauer, On Galois comodules, Comm. Algebra 34 (2006), 2683-2711]. Furthermore we study equivalences between categories of comodules over a coring and modules over a firm ring. We show that these equivalences are related to Galois theory for comodules.  相似文献

We prove that every Ariki–Koike algebra is Morita equivalent to a direct sum of tensor products of smaller Ariki–Koike algebras which have q–connected parameter sets. A similar result is proved for the cyclotomic q–Schur algebras. Combining our results with work of Ariki and Uglov, the decomposition numbers for the Ariki–Koike algebras defined over fields of characteristic zero are now known in principle. We continue to study the asymptotic behavior of least energy solutions to the following fourth order elliptic problem (E p ): as p gets large, where Ω is a smooth bounded domain in R 4 . In our earlier paper (Takahashi in Osaka J. Math., 2006), we have shown that the least energy solutions remain bounded uniformly in p and they have one or two “peaks” away form the boundary. In this note, following the arguments in Adimurthi and Grossi (Proc. AMS 132(4):1013–1019, 2003) and Lin and Wei (Comm. Pure Appl. Math. 56:784–809, 2003), we will obtain more sharper estimates of the upper bound of the least energy solutions and prove that the least energy solutions must develop single-point spiky pattern, under the assumption that the domain is convex.  相似文献

In this note, we prove that the convergence results for vector optimization problems with equilibrium constraints presented in Wu and Cheng (J. Optim. Theory Appl. 125, 453–472, 2005) are not correct. Actually, we show that results of this type cannot be established at all. This is due to the possible lack, even under nice assumptions, of lower convergence of the solution map for equilibrium problems, already deeply investigated in Loridan and Morgan (Optimization 20, 819–836, 1989) and Lignola and Morgan (J. Optim. Theory Appl. 93, 575–596, 1997).  相似文献

In this paper, we introduce two iterative schemes (one implicit and one explicit) for finding a common element of the set of solutions of the generalized equilibrium problems and the set of all common fixed points of a nonexpansive semigroup in the framework of a real Hilbert space. We prove that both approaches converge strongly to a common element of such two sets. Such common element is the unique solution of a variational inequality, which is the optimality condition for a minimization problem. Furthermore, we utilize the main results to obtain two mean ergodic theorems for nonexpansive mappings in a Hilbert space. The results of this paper extend and improve the results of Li et al. (J Nonlinear Anal 70:3065–3071, 2009), Cianciaruso et al. (J Optim Theory Appl 146:491–509, 2010) and many others.  相似文献

This paper establishes a generalized comparison theorem for one-dimensional backward stochastic differential equations (BSDEs) whose generators are uniformly continuous in z and satisfy a kind of weakly monotonic condition in y. As applications, two new existence and uniqueness theorems for solutions of BSDEs are obtained. In the one-dimensional setting, these results generalize some corresponding results in Pardoux and Peng (Syst. Control Lett. 14:55–61, 1990), Mao (Stoch. Process. Their Appl. 58:281–292, 1995), El Karoui et al. (Math. In this article we prove that some of the sufficient and necessary optimality conditions obtained by Ginchev, Guerraggio, Luc [Appl. Math., 51, 5-36 (2006)] generalize (strictly) those presented by Guerraggio, Luc [J. Optim. Theory Appl., 109, 615-629 (2001)]. While the former paper shows examples for which the conditions given there are effective but the ones from the latter paper fail, it does not prove that generally the conditions it proposes are stronger. This paper deals with the Cahn–Hilliard equation subject to the boundary conditions and the initial condition ψ(0,x) = ψ0(x) where J = (0,∞), and Ω ⊂ ℝ n is a bounded domain with smooth boundary Γ = ∂ G, n≤ 3, and Γ s s ,g s > 0, h are constants. This problem has already been considered in the recent paper of R. Racke and S. Zheng (The Cahn–Hilliard equation with dynamic boundary conditions. Adv. Diff. Eq. 8, 83–110, 2003), where global existence and uniqueness were obtained. In this paper we first obtain results on the maximal L p -regularity of the solution.
