Headspace solvent microextraction (HSME) was shown to be an efficient preconcentration method for extraction of some polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) from aqueous sample solutions. A microdrop of 1-butanol (as extracting solvent) containing biphenyl (as internal standard) was used in this investigation. Extraction occurred by suspending a 3 μl drop of 1-butanol from the tip of a microsyringe fixed above the surface of solution in a sealed vial. After extraction for a preset time, the microdrop was retracted back into the syringe and injected directly into a GC injection port. The effects of nature of extracting solvent, microdrop and sample temperatures, stirring rate, microdrop and sample volumes, ionic strength and extraction time on HSME efficiency were investigated and optimized. Finally, the enrichment factor, dynamic linear range (DLR), limit of detection (LOD) and precision of the method were evaluated by water samples spiked with PAHs. The optimized procedure was successfully applied to the extraction and determination of PAHs in different water samples.  相似文献

Summary Due to the carcinogenity and ubiquity of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons in the environment they are of ongoing interest to analytical chemistry. In this study, a comparison of the classic Soxhlet extraction and, fluidized-bed extraction, has been conducted. The extraction of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons by this technique has been optimized considering as experimental variables the variation of the number of extraction cycles and the holding time after reaching the heating temperature by means of a surface response design. The significance of the operational parameters of the fluidized-bed extraction on the performance characteristics has been investigated. For the determination of the analytes a selective clean-up of the extracts followed by a fast gas chromatography method with mass spectrometric detection was used, resulting in low limits of detection (0.2 pg μL−1). The accuracy of the complete analytical method was established by extraction and analysis of reference materials.  相似文献

For the first time, Vacuum Assisted Headspace Solid Phase Microextraction (Vac-HSSPME) is used for the recovery of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) from solid matrices. The procedure was investigated both theoretically and experimentally. According to the theory, reducing the total pressure increases the vapor flux of chemicals at the soil surface, and hence improves HSSPME extraction kinetics. Vac-HSSPME sampling could be further enhanced by adding water as a modifier and creating a slurry mixture. For these soil-water mixtures, reduced pressure conditions may increase the volatilization rates of compounds with a low KH present in the aqueous phase of the slurry mixture and result in a faster HSSPME extraction process. Nevertheless, analyte desorption from soil to water may become a rate-limiting step when significant depletion of the aqueous analyte concentration takes place during Vac-HSSPME. Sand samples spiked with PAHs were used as simple solid matrices and the effect of different experimental parameters was investigated (extraction temperature, modifiers and extraction time). Vac-HSSPME sampling of dry spiked sand samples provided the first experimental evidence of the positive combined effect of reduced pressure and temperature on HSSPME. Although adding 2 mL of water as a modifier improved Vac-HSSPME, humidity decreased the amount of naphthalene extracted at equilibrium as well as impaired extraction of all analytes at elevated sampling temperatures. Within short HSSPME sampling times and under mild sampling temperatures, Vac-HSSPME yielded linear calibration curves in the range of 1–400 ng g−1 and, with the exception of fluorene, regression coefficients were found higher than 0.99. The limits of detection for spiked sand samples ranged from 0.003 to 0.233 ng g−1 and repeatability from 4.3 to 10 %. Finally, the amount of PAHs extracted from spiked soil samples was smaller compared to spiked sand samples, confirming that soil could bind target analytes more strongly and thus decrease the readily available fraction of target analytes.  相似文献

This paper describes a headspace solid-phase microextraction (HS-SPME) procedure coupled to gas chromatography with mass spectrometric detection (GC–MS) for the determination of eight PAHs in aquatic species. The influence of various parameters on the PAH extraction efficiency was carefully examined. At 75 °C and for an extraction time of 60 min, a polydimethylsiloxane–divinylbenzene (PDMS/DVB) fiber coating was found to be most suitable. Under the optimized conditions, detection limits ranged from 8 to 450 pg g−1, depending on the compound and the sample matrix. The repeatability varied between 7 and 15% (RSD). Accuracy was tested using the NIST SRM 1974b reference material. The method was successfully applied to different samples, and the studied PAHs were detected in several of the samples. A simple, low-cost, and effective cooling/heating-assisted headspace solid-phase microextraction (CHA–HS–SPME) device, capable of direct cooling the fiber to low temperatures and simultaneous heating the sample matrix to high temperatures, was fabricated and evaluated. It was able to cool down the commercial and handmade fibers for the effective tapping of volatile and semi-volatile species in the headspace of complex solid matrices, with minimal manipulation compared with conventional SPME. The CHA–HS–SPME system can create large temperature gaps (up to 200 °C) between the fiber and the sample matrix, because the cooling process is directly applied onto the fiber.  相似文献

A method for the determination of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) in soil samples using ultrasonic‐assisted extraction with internal surrogates combined with solid‐phase microextraction and GC‐MS has been developed. Five kinds of commercial solid‐phase microextraction fibers, 100 μm PDMS, 30 μm PDMS, 65 μm PDMS/DVB, 50 μm DVB/CAR/PDMS and 85 μm PA, were compared to choose the optimal SPME fiber for extraction of PAHs. One hundred micrometers of PDMS fiber was found to be more suitable for the determination of PAHs due to its wider linear range, better repeatability, lower detection and more satisfactory efficacy than the other fibers. Under the recommended conditions, 100 μm PDMS fiber could provide low nanogram level detection limits with correlation coefficient greater than 0.98. The method was also applied to determine PAHs in a spiked soil sample, obtaining recoveries higher than 79.3%. A field study with naturally contaminated samples from local contaminated sites was carried out. The proposed method was found to be a reliable, inexpensive and simple preparation method for quantitative determination of 16 PAHs in soil samples.  相似文献

A novel silver-coated solid-phase microextraction fiber was prepared based on electroless plating technique. Good extraction performance of the fiber for model compounds including phthalate esters (dibutyl phthalate, dioctyl phthalate, dicyclohexyl phthalate and diallyl phthalate) and polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (naphthalene, fluorene, phenanthrene, fluoranthene) in aqueous solution was obtained. Under the optimized conditions (extraction temperature, extraction time, ionic strength and desorption temperature), the proposed SPME-GC method showed wide linear ranges with correlation coefficients (R2) ranging from 0.9745 to 0.9984. The limits of detection were at the range of 0.02 to 0.1 μg L−1. Single fiber repeatability and fiber-to-fiber reproducibility as well as stability to acid, alkali and high temperature were studied and the results were all satisfactory. The method was applied successfully to the aqueous extracts of disposable paper cup and instant noodle barrel. Several kinds of analytes were detected and quantified.  相似文献

A novel partitioning collection device comprising a glass cartridge packed with poly(dimethylsiloxane)‐coated macroporous silica particles was developed for the precise quantification of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons in air. The analyte collection and elution performances achieved using different amounts of poly(dimethylsiloxane) coating were quantitatively evaluated. The sample retention power increased with increasing the coating, and more than 250 L of air could be collected without analyte breakthrough at a sampling temperature of 35°C. During the air collection, the moisture in the air was not retained on the particles due to the hydrophobic surface of the sorbent. A complete and rapid elution of the collected analytes from the device was accomplished by the passage of only 10 mL of acetone with ultrasonication for 1 min. The proposed method was successfully applied for the determination of airborne polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons in tunnel air.  相似文献

Gas purge-microsyringe extraction (GP-MSE) is a rapid and exhaustive microextraction technique for volatile and semivolatile compounds. In this study, a theoretical system of GP-MSE was established by directly extracting and analyzing 16 kinds of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) from plant samples. On the basis of theoretical consideration, a full factorial experimental design was first used to evaluate the main effects and interactions of the experimental parameters affecting the extraction efficiency. Further experiments were carried out to determine the extraction kinetics and desorption temperature-dependent. The results indicated that three factors, namely desorption temperature (temperature of sample phase) Td, extraction time t, and gas flow rate u, had a significantly positive effect on the extraction efficiency of GP-MSE for PAHs. Extraction processes of PAHs in plant samples followed by first-order kinetics (relative coefficient R2 of simulation curves were 0.731–1.000, with an average of 0.958 and 4.06% relative standard deviation), and obviously depended on the desorption temperature. Furthermore, the effect of the matrix was determined from the difference in Eapp,d. Finally, satisfactory recoveries of 16 PAHs were obtained using optimal parameters. The study demonstrated that GP-MSE could provide a rapid and exhaustive means of direct extraction of PAHs from plant samples. The extraction kinetics were similar that of the inverse process of the desorption kinetics of the sample phase.  相似文献

A method for the determination of 16 polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) in milk and related products based on direct immersion-solid phase microextraction (DI-SPME) followed by gas chromatography-mass spectrometry detection (GC-MS) has been developed. The influence of various parameters on PAH extraction efficiency was carefully monitored. Good performance (recovery, precision and quantitation limits) was attained when a PDMS/DVB fiber was immersed in the sample for 60 min at 55 °C. Detection limits ranged from 0.003 to 1.5 μg L−1 at a signal-to-noise ratio of 3, depending on the compound and the sample. The proposed method was successfully applied to infant formulas, milk and related products and the presence of both fluoranthene and pyrene in two samples was confirmed.  相似文献

A new, single-step extraction and purification method based on matrix solid-phase dispersion (MSPD) was developed to determine 17 polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) in sewage sludge samples. The MSPD method consists of sample homogenisation, exhaustive extraction and clean-up by a single process. The different operational parameters of the method, such as the type of dispersant, type and amount of additives, clean-up co-sorbent and extractive solvent were evaluated. Reversed-phase (C18) and polymeric (Oasis HLB and Oasis MAX) materials, as well as normal phase sorbents (Florisil, silica, neutral alumina) and an inert support (sand) were tested to assess the sorbents effect on the yield and selectivity of the MSPD process. Analysis of extracts was performed by high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) coupled with fluorescence detection.Quantification limits obtained for all of these considered compounds (between 0.0001 and 0.005 μg g−1 dry mass) were well below of the limits recommended in the EU. The extraction yields for the different compounds obtained by MSPD ranged from 76.3% to 103.6%. On the other hand, the extraction efficiency of the optimised method is compared with that achieved by microwave-assisted extraction and the method was applied to the analysis of real sewage sludge samples. A certified reference material (sewage sludge (BCR 088)) and a reference material (sewage sludge (RTC-CNS312-04)) were used to validate the proposed method.  相似文献

1,2‐Benzenedicarboxylic acid esters, commonly referred to as phthalate esters, form a group of compounds that are mainly used as plasticizers in polymers. Because phthalate esters are not chemically bound to the plastics, they can be released easily from products and migrate into the food or water that comes into direct contact. Due to their widespread use, they are considered as ubiquitous environmental pollutants. Phthalate esters are regarded as endocrine disrupting compounds by means of their carcinogenic effect. Phthalate esters can be analyzed by gas chromatography or high‐performance liquid chromatography, however, their sensitivity and selectivity limit their direct use for determination of phthalates at very low level of concentrations exist in environmental samples with complex matrices. Therefore a sample pretreatment prior to their analysis is necessary. In this review, the historical development and overview of sample preparation methodologies have briefly been discussed and a comprehensive application of these methods in combination with different analytical techniques for preconcentration and determination of phthalate esters in various matrices have been summarized. Finally, a critical comparison of the different approaches in terms of enrichment factors achieved, extraction efficiency, precision, selectivity and simplicity of operation is provided.  相似文献

The hydrophobic octadecyl (C18) functionalized Fe3O4 magnetic nanoparticles (Fe3O4@C18) were caged into hydrophilic barium alginate (Ba2+-ALG) polymers to obtain a novel type of solid-phase extraction (SPE) sorbents, and the sorbents were applied to the pre-concentration of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) and phthalate esters (PAEs) pollutants from environmental water samples. The hydrophilicity of the Ba2+-ALG cage enhances the dispersibility of sorbents in water samples, and the superparamagnetism of the Fe3O4 core facilitates magnetic separation. With the magnetic SPE technique based on the Fe3O4@C18@Ba2+-ALG sorbents, it requires only 30 min to extract trace levels of analytes from 500 mL water samples. After the eluate is condensed to 0.5 mL, concentration factors for both phenanthrene and di-n-propyl-phthalate are over 500, while for other analytes are about 1000. The recoveries of target compounds are independent of salinity and solution pH under testing conditions. Under optimized conditions, the detection limits for phenanthrene, pyrene, benzo[a]anthracene, and benzo[a]pyrene are 5, 5, 3, and 2 ng L−1, and for di-n-propyl-phthalate, di-n-butyl-phthalate, di-cyclohexyl-phthalate, and di-n-octyl-phthalate are 36, 59, 19, and 36 ng L−1, respectively. The spiked recoveries of several real water samples for PAHs and PAEs are in the range of 72-108% with relative standard deviations varying from 1% to 9%, showing good accuracy of the method. The advantages of the new SPE method include high extraction efficiency, short analysis time and convenient extraction procedure. To the best of our knowledge, it is unprecedented that hydrophilic Ba2+-ALG polymer caged Fe3O4@C18 magnetic nanomaterial is used to extract organic pollutants from large volumes of water samples.  相似文献

An automated, simple and sensitive method based on selective pressurized liquid extraction (SPLE) was developed for the analysis of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons in sewage sludge samples. The new sample preparation procedure consists of on-line clean-up by inclusion of sorbents in the extraction cell, and combines elevated temperatures and pressures with liquid solvents to achieve fast and efficient removal of target analytes from complex sewage sludge matrices. The effects of various operational parameters (e.g. sample pretreatment, extraction solvent, temperature, pressure, static time, etc.) on the performance of SPLE procedure were carefully investigated, obtaining the best results when SPLE conditions were fixed at 140 °C, 1500 psi, static time of 5 min and n-hexane as extraction solvent. A new programmed temperature vaporization–gas chromatography–tandem mass spectrometry method based on large volume injection (PTV–LVI–GC–MS/MS) was also developed and analytical determinations were performed by high performance liquid chromatography coupled with fluorescence detection and GC–MS/MS. The extraction yields for the different compounds obtained by SPLE ranged from 84.8% to 106.6%. Quantification limits obtained for all of these studied compounds (between 0.0001 and 0.005 μg g−1, dry mass) were well below the regulatory limits for all compounds considered. To test the accuracy of the SPLE technique, the optimized methodology was applied to the analysis of a certified reference material (sewage sludge (BCR088)) and a reference material (sewage sludge (RTC-CNS312-04)), with excellent results.  相似文献

In this study, the potential for carbonaceous nanomaterials to be used as adsorbents for the mixed matrix membrane (MMM) microextraction and preconcentration of organic pollutants was demonstrated. For this method, multiwall carbon nanotubes (MWCNT) and single layer graphene (SLG) nanoparticles were individually incorporated through dispersion in a cellulose triacetate (CTA) polymer matrix to form a MWCNT-MMM and SLG-MMM, respectively. The prepared membranes were evaluated for the extraction of selected polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) present in sewage pond water samples. The extraction was performed by dipping a small piece of membrane (7 mm × 7 mm) in a stirred 7.5 mL sample solution to initiate the analyte adsorption. This step was followed by an analyte desorption into 60 μL of methanol prior to high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) analysis. When the optimum SLG-MMM microextraction technique was applied to spiked sewage pond water samples, the detection limit of the method for the PAHs were in the range of 0.02–0.09 ng/mL, with relative standard deviations of between 1.4% and 7.8%. Enrichment factors of 54–100 were achieved with relative recoveries of 99%–101%. A comparison was also made between the proposed approach and standard solid phase extraction using polymeric bonded octadecyl (C18) cartridges.  相似文献

A methacrylate-based monolithic capillary column has been evaluated for the preconcentration of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) from environmental water samples. For this purpose, the monolyte was in situ synthesized in a 6cm×0.32mm id fused-silica capillary. The microextraction unit was fitted to a micro-HPLC pump to pass 10mL of sample. The isolated pollutants were eluted by means of 10μL of methanol, the organic phase being directly collected in a specific interface that can be fitted to the injection port of the gas chromatograph without modification. The interface allows the on-line thermal desorption of the PAHs, avoiding the dilution and providing enough sensitivity to reach the legal limits established for these pollutants in the matrices selected. The limits of detection achieved for 10mL of water ranged between 2.8ng/L (indeno(1,2,3-cd)pyrene) and 11.5ng/L (acenaphthene) with acceptable precision (between 4.5 and 18.2% RSD). The method was applied to the determination of the selected PAHs in tap, river waters and sewage, being fluoranthene and pyrene detected in all of them at concentrations lower than the legal limits established for these compounds in the matrices assayed.  相似文献

Periodic mesoporous organosilica based on alkylimidazolium ionic liquid (PMO-IL) was prepared and used as a highly porous fiber coating material for solid-phase microextraction (SPME). The prepared nanomaterial was immobilized onto a stainless steel wire for fabrication of the SPME fiber. The fiber was evaluated for the extraction of some polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) from aqueous sample solutions in combination with gas chromatography–mass spectrometry (GC–MS). A one at-the-time optimization strategy was applied for optimizing the important extraction parameters such as extraction temperature, extraction time, ionic strength, stirring rate, and desorption temperature and time. In optimum conditions, the repeatability for one fiber (n = 3), expressed as relative standard deviation (R.S.D.%), was between 4.3% and 9.7% for the test compounds. The detection limits for the studied compounds were between 4 and 9 pg mL−1. The developed method offers the advantage of being simple to use, with shorter analysis time, lower cost of equipment, thermal stability of fiber and high relative recovery in comparison to conventional methods of analysis.  相似文献

This paper describes a new, efficient and versatile method for the sampling and preconcentration of PAH in environmental water matrices using special hybrid magnetic carbon nanotubes. These N-doped amphiphilic CNT can be easily dispersed in any aqueous matrix due to the N containing hydrophilic part and at the same time show high efficiency for the adsorption of different PAH contaminants due to the very hydrophobic surface. After adsorption, the CNT can be easily removed from the medium by a simple magnetic separation. GC/MS analyses showed that the CNT method is more efficient than the use of polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS) with much lower solvent consumption, technical simplicity and time, showing good linearity (range 0.18–80.00 μg L−1) and determination coefficient (R2 > 0.9810). The limit of detection ranged from 0.05 to 0.42 μg L−1 with limit of quantification from 0.18 to 1.40 μg L−1. Recovery (n = 9) ranged from 80.50 ± 10 to 105.40 ± 12%. Intraday precision (RSD, n = 9) ranged from 1.91 to 9.01%, whereas inter day precision (RSD, n = 9) ranged from 7.02 to 17.94%. The method was applied to the analyses of PAH in four lake water samples collected in Belo Horizonte City, Brazil.  相似文献

A novel chemically bonded graphene oxide/fused-silica fiber was prepared and applied in solid-phase microextraction of six polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons from water samples coupled with gas chromatography. It exhibited high extraction efficiency and excellent stability. Effects of extraction time, extraction temperature, ionic strength, stirring rate and desorption conditions were investigated and optimized in our work. Detection limits to the six polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons were less than 0.08 μg/L, and their calibration curves were all linear (R(2)≥0.9954) in the range from 0.05 to 200 μg/L. Single fiber repeatability and fiber-to-fiber reproducibility were less than 6.13 and 15.87%, respectively. This novel fiber was then utilized to analyze two real water samples from the Yellow River and local waterworks, and the recoveries of samples spiked at 1 and 10 μg/L ranged from 84.48 to 118.24%. Compared with other coating materials, this graphene oxide-coated fiber showed many advantages: wide linear range, low detection limit, and good stability in acid, alkali, organic solutions and at high temperature.  相似文献

A gas chromatograph/mass-selective detection (GC/MS) method has been developed and validated for the quantitation of 16 polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons found in mainstream tobacco smoke condensate. The utilization of two types of solid-phase extraction media combined with capillary column technology removed matrix interferences, afforded a significant reduction in analysis run time, and increased accuracy. Also, the addition of a chilled impinger was used to trap semi-volatile polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons and to provide more accurate data. This was done without sacrificing the repeatability, reproducibility, and precision obtained in previously published methods. The development and validation studies discussed in this paper resulted in an improved, robust analytical method capable of increasing laboratory capacity and reducing sample reporting time.  相似文献
