Experiments have been carried at magnetic-field strengths of 9.4, 14.1, and 17.6 T to explore the evolution of intermolecular multiple quantum coherences in the nonlinear regime where the system evolves for times that are much greater than the characteristic time of action of the long-range dipolar field, tau(d). The results show the expected Bessel function form of the recorded signal as a function of time of evolution, with evident zeros and sign changes. As expected, the rate of signal evolution increases at higher-field strengths as a result of the increased equilibrium magnetization. A numerical method for calculating the evolution of magnetization under the action of the distant dipolar field, relaxation, and diffusion that is based on Fourier analysis of the magnetization distribution has been applied to the correlated two-dimensional spectroscopy revamped by asymmetric z-gradient echo detection sequence in the nonlinear regime and shown to produce results that are in good agreement with experimental data acquired at different magnetic fields and rates of spatial modulation. Experiments and simulations have also been used to explore the evolution of magnetization in a mixture of two interacting spin species in the nonlinear regime.  相似文献

A new family of tetranuclear Mn complexes [Mn4X4L4] (H2L = salicylidene-2-ethanolamine; X = Cl (1) or Br (2)) and [Mn4Cl4(L')4] (H2L' = 4-tert-butyl-salicylidene-2-ethanolamine, (3)) has been synthesized and studied. Complexes 1-3 possess a square-shaped core with ferromagnetic exchange interactions between the four Mn(III) centers resulting in an S = 8 spin ground state. Magnetochemical studies and high-frequency EPR spectroscopy reveal an axial magnetoanisotropy with D values in the range -0.10 to -0.20 cm(-1) for complexes 2 and 3 and for differently solvated forms of 1. As a result, these species possess an anisotropy-induced energy barrier to magnetization reversal and display slow relaxation of the magnetization, which is observed as hysteresis for 1 and 3 and frequency-dependent peaks in out-of-phase AC susceptibility measurements for 3. The effective energy barrier was determined to be 7.7 and 7.9 K for 1 and 3, respectively, and evidence for quantum tunneling of the magnetization was observed. Detailed magnetochemical studies, including measurements at ultralow temperatures, have revealed that complexes 1 and 2 possess solvation-dependent antiferromagnetic intermolecular interactions. Complex 3 displays ferromagnetic intermolecular interactions and approaches a ferromagnetic phase transition with a critical temperature of approximately 1 K, which is coincident with the onset of slow relaxation of the magnetization due to the molecular anisotropy barrier to magnetization reversal. It was found that the intermolecular interactions have a significant effect on the manifestation of slow relaxation of the magnetization, and thereby, these complexes represent a new family of "exchange-biased single-molecule magnets", where the exchange bias is controlled by chemical and structural modifications.  相似文献

Biomolecules participate in various physiological and pathological processes through intermolecular interactions generally driven by non-covalent forces. In the present review, the force-induced remnant magnetization spectroscopy (FIRMS) is described and illustrated as a novel method to measure non-covalent forces. During the FIRMS measurement, the molecular magnetic probes are magnetized to produce an overall magnetization signal. The dissociation under the interference of external force yields a decrease in the magnetic signal, which is recorded and collected by atomic magnetometer in a spectrum to study the biological interactions. Furthermore, the recent FIRMS development with various external mechanical forces and magnetic probes is summarized.  相似文献

The syntheses, structures, and magnetic properties of two new Mn7 complexes containing phenylseleninate ligands are reported. [Mn7O8(O2SePh)8(O2CMe)(H2O)] (1) and [Mn7O8(O2SePh)9(H2O)] (2) were both prepared by the reaction of 18 equiv of benzeneseleninic acid (PhSeO2H) with [Mn12O12(O2CMe)16(H2O)4] in MeCN. Complex 1 x 6MeCN crystallizes in the triclinic space group P, and complex 2 x 2CH2Cl2 crystallizes in the monoclinic space group P2(1)/m. Both compounds possess an unprecedented [Mn7O8]9+ core comprising a central [MnIII3(micro3-O)4]+ unit attached to [MnIV2(micro-O)2]4+ and [MnIV2(micro-O)(micro3-O)]4+ units on either side. In each cluster, the PhSeO2- groups function as bridging ligands between adjacent Mn centers. The structure reveals strong Se.O intermolecular contacts between Mn7 units to give a one-dimensional chain structure, with weak interchain interactions. Solid-state DC magnetic susceptibility measurements of complexes 1 and 2 reveal that they have very similar properties, and detailed studies on 1 by AC susceptibility measurements confirm an S = 2 ground-state spin value. In addition, out-of-phase AC signals are observed, suggesting slow magnetization relaxation. Magnetization versus DC field sweeps down to 0.04 K reveals hysteresis loops, but the temperature dependence of the coercivity is not what is expected of a single-molecule magnet. Instead, the behavior is due to single-chain magnetism, albeit with weak antiferromagnetic interactions between the chains, with the barrier to relaxation arising from a combination of molecular anisotropy and ferromagnetic intermolecular exchange interactions mediated by the Se...O contacts. An Arrhenius plot was constructed from the magnetization versus time decay data. The thermally activated region at > 0.5 K gave an effective relaxation barrier (Ueff) of 14.2 K. Below approximately 0.1 K, the relaxation is independent of temperature, which is characteristic of magnetization quantum tunneling through the anisotropy barrier. These Mn7 compounds are thus the first single-chain magnets to comprise polynuclear metal clusters and also the first for which the temperature-independent relaxation characteristic of tunneling has been identified. The work also emphasizes that out-of-phase AC signals for ostensibly molecular compounds are not sufficient proof by themselves of a single-molecule magnet.  相似文献

Effects of magnetization on the complex modulus of kappa-carrageenan magnetic gels have been investigated. The magnetic gel was made of a natural polymer, kappa-carrageenan, and a ferrimagnetic particle, barium ferrite. The complex modulus was measured before and after magnetization of the gel by dynamic viscoelastic measurements with a compressional strain. The gels showed a giant reduction in the storage modulus of approximately 10(7) Pa and also in the loss modulus of approximately 10(6) Pa due to magnetization. The reduction increased with increasing volume fraction of ferrite, and it was nearly independent of the frequency. It was also found that the change in the modulus was nearly independent of the magnetization direction and irradiation time of the magnetic fields to the gel. The magnetic gels demonstrating the giant reduction in the dynamic modulus showed a large nonlinear viscoelastic response. It was observed that the magnetic gel was deformed slightly due to magnetization. The observed giant complex modulus reduction could be attributed to the nonlinear viscoelasticity and deformation caused by magnetization. Magnetism, nonlinear viscoelasticity, and effects of magnetization on the morphological and shape changes were discussed.  相似文献

Mismatched Hartmann-Hahn conditions between the protons and dilute spins (such as 15N) are found to cause intermolecular magnetization transfer between the low-gamma nuclei over long distances. This transfer is purely proton mediated and occurs even in the absence of direct 15N-15N couplings. This has been demonstrated experimentally using a static single crystal of n-acetyl Leucine with intermolecular distances between the 15N nuclei exceeding 6.5 A. A quantum-mechanical explanation of this phenomenon is given based on the average-Hamiltonian theory which was confirmed by detailed numerical many-spin simulations. The theory and experiment presented in the present paper may help in the development of solid-state NMR methods for studying interhelical contacts in membrane proteins, as well as for their spectral assignment.  相似文献

Nonlinear spectroscopic signals in liquid solution were calculated without treating the field-matter interaction in a perturbative manner. The calculation is based on the assumption that the intermolecular degrees of freedom can be treated classically, while the time evolution of the electronic state is treated quantum mechanically. The calculated overall electronic polarization is then resolved into its directional components via the method of Seidner et al. [J. Chem. Phys. 103, 3998 (1995)]. It is shown that the time dependence of the directional components is independent of laser intensity in the impulsive pulse regime, which allows for flexibility in choosing the procedure for calculating optical response functions. The utility and robustness of the nonperturbative procedure is demonstrated in the case of a two-state chromophore solvated in a monoatomic liquid, by calculating nonlinear time-domain signals in the strong-field, weak-field, impulsive, and nonimpulsive regimes.  相似文献

The combined use of the anion of phenyl(2-pyridyl)ketone oxime (ppko(-)) and azides (N(3)(-)) in nickel(II) carboxylate chemistry has afforded two new Ni(II)(5) clusters, [Ni(5)(O(2)CR')(2)(N(3))(4)(ppko)(4)(MeOH)(4)] [R' = H (1), Me (2)]. The structurally unprecedented {Ni(5)(μ-N(3))(2)(μ(3)-N(3))(2)}(6+) cores of the two clusters are almost identical and contain the five Ni(II) atoms in a bowtie topology. Two N(3)(-) ions are end-on doubly bridging and the other two ions end-on triply bridging. The end-on μ(3)-N(3)(-) groups link the central Ni(II) atoms with the two peripheral metal ions on either side of the molecule, while the Ni···Ni bases of the triangles are each bridged by one end-on μ-N(3)(-) group. Variable-temperature, solid-state direct- (dc) and alternating-current (ac) magnetic susceptibility, and magnetization studies at 2.0 K were carried out on both complexes. The data indicate an overall ferromagnetic behavior and an S = 5 ground state for both compounds. The ac susceptibility studies on 1 reveal nonzero, frequency-dependent out-of-phase (χ(M)") signals at temperatures below ~3.5 K; complex 2 reveals no χ(M)" signals. However, single-crystal magnetization versus dc field scans at variable temperatures and variable sweep rates down to 0.04 K on 1 reveal no noticeable hysteresis loops, except very minor ones at 0.04 K assignable to weak intermolecular interactions propagated by nonclassical hydrogen bonds.  相似文献

Fourier transform infrared and Raman spectra of the nonlinear optical crystal, L-arginine trifluoroacetate (L-arginine.CF3COOH, abbreviated as LATF) have been calculated by the first-principles calculation and investigated in experiment. The calculated results are slightly different from those experimental values because of the distinction resulted from the intermolecular hydrogen bonds. The role of this type of intermolecular interaction on the crystal vibrational spectra and nonlinear optical properties has been discussed. The absorption-edge on the IR side has been estimated by the theoretical approach on basis of the calculated infrared spectrum, which will be meaningful for further research on NLO crystal.  相似文献

We present a novel saturation transfer difference (STD) experiment where group selective (GS) saturation of amide protons in (15)N labeled hosts is achieved. It is demonstrated that a train of BIRD(d) pulses that inverts only protons attached to (15)N indeed results in saturation of the amide protons, while the background proton magnetization is much less affected. The undesired effect of partial saturation of the unlabeled protons can be completely cancelled out in difference spectra by switching the (15)N carrier between the on- and the off-resonance frequencies. As a result, clean and artifact-free STD spectra are obtained without the need of time-consuming optimization of experimental parameters and acquiring control spectra in the absence of the host. The use of the (15)N-GS STD experiment is demonstrated for the case of a glycopeptide antibiotic (dimeric eremomycin)-cell-wall analogue peptide (N-Ac-D-Ala) model system where the host and guest (1)H signals overlap. The application seems feasible for ligand screening against proteins without the prerequisite of a clean on-resonance frequency or defined ligand library. The new experiment can be used as the basis for studying intermolecular interactions where the standard STD experiment is difficult to optimize.  相似文献

Water-protein interactions play a major role in protein folding, structure, and function, and solid-state NMR has recently been shown to be a powerful tool for the site-resolved observation of these interactions in solid proteins. In this article we report investigations on possible water-protein dipolar transfer mechanisms in the microcrystalline deuterated protein Crh by a set of solid-state NMR techniques. Double-quantum (DQ) filtered and edited heteronuclear correlation experiments are used to follow direct dipolar water-protein magnetization transfers. Experimental data reveal no evidence for "solid-like" water molecules, indicating that residence times of solvent molecules are shorter than required for DQ creation, typically a few hundred microseconds. An alternative magnetization pathway, intermolecular cross-relaxation via heteronuclear nuclear Overhauser effects (NOEs), is probed by saturation transfer experiments. The significant additional enhancements observed when irradiating at the water frequency can possibly be attributed to direct heteronuclear water-protein NOEs; however, a contribution from relayed magnetization transfer via chemical exchange or proton-proton dipolar mechanisms cannot be excluded.  相似文献

We discuss the hybrid 2D-Raman-THz spectroscopy of liquid water. This two-dimensional spectroscopy is designed to directly work in the low-frequency range of the intermolecular degrees of freedom. The information content of 2D-Raman-THz spectroscopy is similar to 2D-Raman or 2D-THz spectroscopy, but its experimental implementation should be easier. That is, 2D-Raman-THz spectroscopy is a 3rd-order nonlinear spectroscopy and as such completely avoids cascading of consecutive 3rd-order signals, which turned out to be a major difficulty in 5th-order 2D-Raman spectroscopy. On the other hand, it does not require any intense THz pump-pulse, the lack of which limits 2D-THz spectroscopy to the study of semiconductor quantum wells as the currently available pulse energies are too low for molecular systems. In close analogy to 2D-Raman spectroscopy, the 2D-Raman-THz response of liquid water is simulated from an all-atom molecular dynamics simulation, and the expected spectral features are discussed.  相似文献

Transient nutations are observed in nuclear magnetic resonance during continuous generation of magnetization at and near resonance in reactions leading to chemically induced dynamic nuclear polarization. Modulation of the reaction with the nutation frequency leads to stationary nutations. The phase-sensitive detection of the nutation signals is used to discriminate effects of chemically induced polarization from steady state resonance signals. For single line spectra the effects are quantitatively explained by Bloch-type equations containing magnetization production terms. Experimental results obtained during photochemical reactions of di-tert-butyl ketone demonstrate general applications of the method.  相似文献

High-spin intermediates with S = 2 generated by γ-radiolysis of triazidopyridines at 77 K were studied using the ESR method in the X range. Their thermal stability at 77–240 K with the transition to the one-electron states (S = 1/2) due to intermolecular reactions at 100–200 K was shown. The study of saturation processes elucidated an effect of a sharp nonlinear increase in the intensity of the ESR signals from quintet dinitrenes with an increase in the microwave field power higher than 10 mW. This effect can be applied as a method of identification of high-spin molecules obtained together with other paramagnetic products of low multiplicity and in the search for systems with molecular magnetism. A set of principles was developed for making compact undulators based on static molecular magnetic structures using dynamic effects upon the interaction of an electron beam with a laser pulse counter.  相似文献

We present an analytical expression for the linear and nonlinear infrared spectra of interacting molecular vibrational motions. Each of the molecular modes is explicitly represented by a classical damped oscillator on an anharmonic multidimensional potential-energy surface. The two essential interactions, the dipole-dipole (DD) and the dipole-induced-dipole (DID) interactions, are taken into account, and each dipole moment and polarizability are expanded to nonlinear order with respect to the nuclear vibrational coordinate. Our analytical treatment leads to expressions for the contributions of anharmonicity, DD and DID interactions, and the nonlinearity of dipole moments and polarizability elements to the one-, two-, and three-dimensional spectra as separated terms, which allows us to discuss the relative importance of these respective contributions. We can calculate multidimensional signals for various configurations of molecules interacting through DD and DID interactions for different material parameters over the whole range of frequencies. We demonstrate that contributions from the DD and DID interactions and anharmonicity are separately detectable through the third-order three-dimensional IR spectroscopy, whereas they cannot be distinguished from each other in either the linear or the second-order IR spectroscopies. The possibility of obtaining the intra- or intermolecular structural information from multidimensional spectra is also discussed.  相似文献

A full molecular dynamics (MD) simulation approach to calculate multidimensional third-order infrared (IR) signals of molecular vibrational modes is proposed. Third-order IR spectroscopy involves three-time intervals between three excitation and one probe pulses. The nonequilibrium MD (NEMD) simulation allows us to calculate molecular dipoles from nonequilibrium MD trajectories for different pulse configurations and sequences. While the conventional NEMD approach utilizes MD trajectories started from the initial equilibrium state, our approach does from the intermediate state of the third-order optical process, which leads to the doorway-window decomposition of nonlinear response functions. The decomposition is made before the second pump excitation for a two-dimensional case of IR photon echo measurement, while it is made after the second pump excitation for a three-dimensional case of three-pulse IR photon echo measurement. We show that the three-dimensional IR signals are efficiently calculated by using the MD trajectories backward and forward in time for the doorway and window functions, respectively. We examined the capability of the present approach by evaluating the signals of two- and three-dimensional IR vibrational spectroscopies for liquid hydrogen fluoride. The calculated signals might be explained by anharmonic Brownian model with the linear-linear and square-linear system-bath couplings which was used to discuss the inhomogeneous broadening and dephasing mechanism of vibrational motions. The predicted intermolecular librational spectra clearly reveal the unusually narrow inhomogeneous linewidth due to the one-dimensional character of HF molecule and the strong hydrogen bond network.  相似文献

A long-wave nonlinear analysis of dewetting of thin (<100 nm) liquid bilayers on solid substrates is presented. The short and the long time dynamics, interfacial morphologies, and the pathways of rupture and dewetting are studied to assess the roles of interfacial energies, film thicknesses, and viscosities. The twin interfaces (liquid-liquid and liquid-air) of bilayers under the influence of attractive van der Waals forces show a variety of dewetting pathways which, depending on the interfacial energies and film thicknesses, initially start with one of the two basic modes of instability--in-phase bending and out-of-phase squeezing. These short time modes of evolution and the extent of relative deformations at the interfaces are predicted from the linear stability analysis and verified by the nonlinear simulations. Simulations also show that in the later nonlinear regime, the intermolecular and viscous forces can profoundly modify the initial mode of instability and its growth rate leading to different pathways of dewetting and late stage morphologies. The complex late time patterns such as embedded droplets, inversion of top and bottom phases, and encapsulation of one fluid into the other are also engendered by tuning the intermolecular forces.  相似文献

When NMR lines overlap and at least one of them is affected by radiation damping, the resonance line shapes of all lines are no longer Lorentzian. We report the appearance of narrow signal distortions, which resemble hole‐burnt spectra. This new experimental phenomenon facilitates the detection of tiny signals hidden below the main resonance. Theoretical analysis based on modified Maxwell–Bloch equations shows that the presence of strong transverse magnetization creates a feedback through the coil, which influences the magnetization of all spins with overlapping resonance lines. In the time domain this leads to cross‐precession terms between magnetization densities, which ultimately cause non‐linear behavior. Numerical simulations corroborate this interpretation.  相似文献
