We study measures on ℝ

which are induced by a class of infinite and recursive iterations in symbolic dynamics. Beginning with a finite set of data,
we analyze prescribed recursive iteration systems, each involving subdivisions. The construction includes measures arising
from affine and contractive iterated function systems with and without overlap (IFSs), i.e., limit measures μ induced by a finite family of affine mappings in ℝ
d
(the focus of our paper), as well as equilibrium measures in complex dynamics.
By a systematic analysis of the Fourier transform of the measure μ at hand (frequency domain), we identify asymptotic laws, spectral types, dichotomy, and chaos laws. In particular we show
that the cases when μ is singular carry a gradation, ranging from Cantor-like fractal measures to measures exhibiting chaos, i.e., a situation
when small changes in the initial data produce large fluctuations in the outcome, or rather, the iteration limit (in this
case the measures). Our method depends on asymptotic estimates on the Fourier transform of μ for paths at infinity in ℝ
d
. We show how properties of μ depend on perturbations of the initial data, e.g., variations in a prescribed finite set of affine mappings in ℝ
d
, in parameters of a rational function in one complex variable (Julia sets and equilibrium measures), or in the entries of
a given infinite positive definite matrix.

ABSTRACT A collisionless plasma is modelled by the Vlasov-Poisson system in three space dimensions. A fixed background of positive charge—dependant upon only velocity—is assumed. The situation in which mobile negative ions balance the positive charge as | x | → ∞ is considered. Thus, the total positive charge and the total negative charge are both infinite. Smooth solutions with appropriate asymptotic behavior for large | x |, which were previously shown to exist locally in time, are continued globally. This is done by showing that the charge density decays at least as fast as | x |?6. This article also establishes decay estimates for the electrostatic field and its derivatives. 相似文献

In this paper, we study the uniform asymptotics of the Meixner‐Pollaczek polynomials with varying parameter as , where A > 0 is a constant. Two asymptotic expansions are obtained, which hold uniformly for z in two overlapping regions which together cover the whole complex plane. One involves parabolic cylinder functions, and the other is in terms of elementary functions only. Our approach is based on the steepest descent method for oscillatory Riemann‐Hilbert problems first introduced by Deift and Zhou [1]. 相似文献

In this paper, we study the asymptotics of the Krawtchouk polynomials KnN(z;p,q) as the degree n becomes large. Asymptotic expansions are obtained when the ratio of the parameters n/N tends to a limit c ∈ (0, 1) as n →∞. The results are globally valid in one or two regions in the complex z-plane depending on the values of c and p;in particular, they are valid in regions containing the interval on which these polynomials are orthogonal. In the usual frequentist formulation of testing and interval estimation there is a strong relationship between -level tests and 1 - confidence intervals. Such strong relationships do not always persist for post-data, or Bayesian, measures of accuracy of these procedures. We explore the relationship between post-data measures of accuracy of both tests and interval estimates, measures that are derived under a decision-theoretic structure. We find that, in general, there are strong post-data relationships in the one-sided case, and some relationships in the two-sided case. 相似文献

In this paper,the authors consider the asymptotic behavior of the monic polynomials orthogonal with respect to the weight function w(x) = |x|~(2α)e~(-(x~4+tx~2)),x ∈ R,where α is a constant larger than -1/2 and t is any real number. They consider this problem in three separate cases:(i) c -2,(ii) c =-2,and(iii) c -2,where c := t N~(-1/2) is a constant,N = n + α and n is the degree of the polynomial. In the first two cases,the support of the associated equilibrium measure μ_t is a single interval,whereas in the third case the support of μ_t consists of two intervals. In each case,globally uniform asymptotic expansions are obtained in several regions. These regions together cover the whole complex plane. We consider the initial-boundary value problem for quasi-linear symmetric hyperbolic systems with dissipation and characteristic boundary of constant multiplicity. Commutator properties are established for periodic splines with distinct uniformly spaced knots (on uniform meshes) operated on by certain pseudo-differential operators. The commutation involves the operations of multiplication by a smooth function and application of a discrete version of orthogonal projection obtained by using a quadrature rule (which need integrate only constants exactly) to approximate the inner product. In the field of orthogonal polynomials theory, the classical Markov theorem shows that for determinate moment problems the
spectral measure is under control of the polynomials asymptotics.
The situation is completely different for indeterminate moment problems, in which case the interesting spectral measures are
to be constructed using Nevanlinna parametrization. Nevertheless it is interesting to observe that some spectral measures
can still be obtained from weaker forms of the Markov theorem.
The exposition will be illustrated by orthogonal polynomials related to elliptic functions: in the determinate case by examples

We study the limiting behavior of uniform measures on finite-dimensional simplices as the dimension tends to infinity and a discrete analog of this problem, the limiting behavior of uniform measures on compositions. It is shown that the coordinate distribution of a typical point in a simplex, as well as the distribution of summands in a typical composition with given number of summands, is exponential. We apply these assertions to obtain a more transparent proof of our result on the limit shape of partitions with given number of summands, refine the estimate on the number of summands in partitions related to a theorem by Erds and Lehner about the asymptotic absence of repeated summands, and outline the proof of the sharpness of this estimate. 相似文献

This paper deals withL2(R)-norm and Sobolev-norm stability of polynomial splines with multiple knots, and with regularized versions thereof. An essential ingredient is a result on Hölder continuity of the shift operator operating on a B-spline series. The stability estimates can be reformulated in terms of a Riesz basis property for the underlying spline spaces. These can also be employed to derive a result on stable Hermite interpolation on the real line. We point to the connection with the problem of symmetric preconditioning of bi-infinite interpolation matrices. 相似文献

Generalized hill climbing algorithms provide a framework for modeling several local search algorithms for hard discrete optimization problems. This paper introduces and analyzes generalized hill climbing algorithm performance measures that reflect how effectively an algorithm has performed to date in visiting a global optimum and how effectively an algorithm may pes]rform in the future in visiting such a solution. These measures are also used to obtain a necessary asymptotic convergence (in probability) condition to a global optimum, which is then used to show that a common formulation of threshold accepting does not converge. These measures assume particularly simple forms when applied to specific search strategies such as Monte Carlo search and threshold accepting. 相似文献
