Let be a tower of rings of characteristic . Suppose that is a finitely presented -module. We give necessary and sufficient conditions for the existence of -bases of over . Next, let be a polynomial ring where is a perfect field of characteristic , and let be a regular noetherian subring of containing such that . Suppose that is a free -module. Then, applying the above result to a tower of rings, we shall show that a polynomial of minimal degree in is a -basis of over .

An algorithm is given for computing the Hausdorff dimension of the set(s) of real numbers with representations , where each , a finite set of ``digits', and is a Pisot number. Anoussis and Katsoulis have obtained a criterion for the space to have a closed complement in , where is a completely distributive commutative subspace lattice. They show that, for a given , the set of for which this complement exists forms an interval whose endpoints are harmonic conjugates. Also, they establish the existence of a lattice for which has no complement for any . However, they give no specific example. In this note an elementary demonstration of a simple example of this phenomenon is given. From this it follows that for a wide range of lattices , fails to have a complement for any .

In this paper we analyze the localization of , the fiber of the double suspension map , with respect to . If four cells at the bottom of , the th extended power spectrum of the Moore spectrum, are collapsed to a point, then one obtains a spectrum . Let be the James-Hopf map followed by the collapse map. Then we show that the secondary suspension map has a lifting to the fiber of and this lifting is shown to be a -periodic equivalence, hence an -equivalence.

A mapping between Banach spaces is said to be polynomially continuous if its restriction to any bounded set is uniformly continuous for the weak polynomial topology. A Banach space has property (RP) if given two bounded sequences , we have that for every polynomial on whenever for every polynomial on ; i.e., the restriction of every polynomial on to each bounded set is uniformly sequentially continuous for the weak polynomial topology. We show that property (RP) does not imply that every scalar valued polynomial on must be polynomially continuous.

Let denote Euler's totient function, i.e., the number of positive integers and prime to . We study pairs of positive integers with such that for some integer . We call these numbers -amicable pairs with multiplier , analogously to Carmichael's multiply amicable pairs for the -function (which sums all the divisors of ).

We have computed all the -amicable pairs with larger member and found pairs for which the greatest common divisor is squarefree. With any such pair infinitely many other -amicable pairs can be associated. Among these pairs there are so-called primitive -amicable pairs. We present a table of the primitive -amicable pairs for which the larger member does not exceed . Next, -amicable pairs with a given prime structure are studied. It is proved that a relatively prime -amicable pair has at least twelve distinct prime factors and that, with the exception of the pair , if one member of a -amicable pair has two distinct prime factors, then the other has at least four distinct prime factors. Finally, analogies with construction methods for the classical amicable numbers are shown; application of these methods yields another 79 primitive -amicable pairs with larger member , the largest pair consisting of two 46-digit numbers.

Let be a compact connected semi-simple Lie group, let , and let be an Iwasawa decomposition. To a given -invariant Kaehler structure on , there corresponds a pre-quantum line bundle on . Following a suggestion of A.S. Schwarz, in a joint paper with V. Guillemin, we studied its holomorphic sections as a -representation space. We defined a -invariant -structure on , and let denote the space of square-integrable holomorphic sections. Then is a unitary -representation space, but not all unitary irreducible -representations occur as subrepresentations of . This paper serves as a continuation of that work, by generalizing the space considered. Let be a Borel subgroup containing , with commutator subgroup . Instead of working with , we consider , for all parabolic subgroups containing . We carry out a similar construction, and recover in the unitary irreducible -representations previously missing. As a result, we use these holomorphic sections to construct a model for : a unitary -representation in which every irreducible -representation occurs with multiplicity one.
