Orientation ordering and the transition to the orientational glass state in fullerite C<Subscript>60</Subscript>

We propose a model for describing the low-temperature transition to the orientational glass state in solid molecular C₆₀ in the framework of a theory similar to spin glass theory. We find a replica symmetric solution and also break the replica symmetry. The obtained results agree with experimental data on the partial retention of the orientational long-range order in the glass phase and on the presence of a broad maximum on the curve corresponding to the temperature dependence of the orientational part of the heat capacity. __________ Translated from Teoreticheskaya i Matematicheskaya Fizika, Vol. 155, No. 2, pp. 356–368, May, 2008.     

A Note on Polynomially Growing C<Subscript>0</Subscript>-Semigroups

We characterize polynomial growth of a C₀-semigroup in terms of the first power of the resolvent of its generator. We do this for a class of semigroups which includes C₀-semigroups on Hilbert spaces and analytic semigroups on Banach spaces. Furthermore, we characterize polynomial growth for discrete semigroups.     

The Cayley Transform of the Generator of a Bounded C<Subscript>0</Subscript>-Semigroup

Let A be the generator of a uniformly bounded C₀-semigroup on the Banach space X. We present sufficient conditions on the resolvent , under which the Cayley transform is a power-bounded operator, i.e., .     

New results on <Emphasis Type="Italic">C</Emphasis><Subscript>11</Subscript> and <Emphasis Type="Italic">C</Emphasis><Subscript>12</Subscript> lattices with applications to Grothendieck categories and torsion theories

In this paper, which is a continuation of our previous paper [T. Albu, M. Iosif, A. Tercan, The conditions (C _i ) in modular lattices, and applications, J. Algebra Appl. 15 (2016), http: dx.doi.org/10.1142/S0219498816500018], we investigate the latticial counterparts of some results about modules satisfying the conditions (C ₁₁) or (C ₁₂). Applications are given to Grothendieck categories and module categories equipped with hereditary torsion theories.     

Uniquely <Emphasis Type="Italic">C</Emphasis><Subscript>4</Subscript>-Saturated Graphs

For a fixed graph H, a graph G is uniquely H-saturated if G does not contain H, but the addition of any edge from [`(G)]{\overline{G}} to G completes exactly one copy of H. Using a combination of algebraic methods and counting arguments, we determine all the uniquely C ₄-saturated graphs; there are only ten of them.     

Free <Emphasis Type="Bold">C</Emphasis><Subscript>+</Subscript>-actions on <Emphasis Type="Bold">C</Emphasis><Superscript>3</Superscript> are translations

Let X be a smooth contractible three-dimensional affine algebraic variety with a free algebraic C₊-action on it such that S=X//C₊ is smooth. We prove that X is isomorphic to S×C and the action is induced by a translation on the second factor. As a consequence we show that any free algebraic C₊-action on C³ is a translation in a suitable coordinate system.     

The spectrum of the Dirac operator on SU<Subscript>2</Subscript>/Q<Subscript>8</Subscript>

We compute the fundamental Dirac operator for the three-parameter-family of homogeneous Riemannian metrics and the four different spin structures on SU₂/Q₈, where Q₈ denotes the group of quaternions. We deduce its spectrum for the Berger metrics and show the sharpness of Christian Bär’s upper bound for the smallest Dirac eigenvalue in the particular case where SU₂/Q₈ is a homogeneous minimal hypersurface of S ⁴.     

Similarity Results for Operators of Class <Emphasis Type="Italic">C</Emphasis><Subscript>0</Subscript>

If T is a multiplicity-free contraction of class C ₀ with minimal function m _T , then it is quasisimilar to the Jordan block S(m _T ). In case m _T is a Blaschke product with simple roots forming a Carleson sequence, we show that the relation between T and S(m _T ) can be strengthened to similarity. Under the additional assumption that u(T) has closed range for every inner divisor \({u\in H^\infty}\) of m _T , the result also holds in the more general setting where the roots have bounded multiplicities.     

Obstructions to the uniform stability of a <Emphasis Type="Italic">C</Emphasis><Subscript>0</Subscript>-semigroup

Let T _t : X → X be a C ₀-semigroup with generator A. We prove that if the abscissa of uniform boundedness of the resolvent s ₀(A) is greater than zero then for each nondecreasing function h(s): ?₊ → R ₊ there are x′ ∈ X′ and x ∈ X satisfying ∫ ₀ ^∞ h(|〈x′, T _x x〉|)dt = ∞. If i? ∩ Sp(A) ≠ Ø then such x may be taken in D(A ^∞).     

Consistency Analysis of Operator Splitting Methods for C<Subscript>0</Subscript>-Semigroups Expression

The consistency of different splitting schemes has mostly been studied for bounded operators by means of the traditional Taylor series expansion. In this paper second order of consistency is proved for the symmetrically weighted sequential (SWS) splitting and the Marchuk-Strang (MS) splitting for unbounded generators of strongly continuous semigroups.     

On the inverse of the generator of a bounded <Emphasis Type="Italic">C</Emphasis><Subscript>0</Subscript>-semigroup

Let A be the generator of a uniformly bounded C ₀-semigroup in a Banach space B, and let A have a densely defined inverse A ^-1 . The -conjecture and equivariant <Emphasis Type="Italic">e</Emphasis><Subscript><Emphasis Type="Italic">C</Emphasis></Subscript>-invariants

Let X be a smooth closed oriented non-spin 4-manifold with even intersection form kE₈nH (n1). The -conjecture states that n is greater than or equal to |k|. In this paper we give a proof of the -conjecture. The strategy of this paper is to use the finite dimensional approximation of the map induced from the Seiberg-Witten equations and equivariant e_C-invariants as in the paper of M. Furuta and Y. Interpolation of operators of weak type (ϕ<Subscript>0</Subscript>, ψ<Subscript>0</Subscript>, ϕ<Subscript>1</Subscript>, ψ<Subscript>1</Subscript>) in Lorentz spaces

We prove theorems on interpolation of quasilinear operators of weak type (ϕ₀, ψ₀, ϕ₀, ψ₁) in Lorentz spaces. On scalar-type spectral operators and Carleman ultradifferentiable <Emphasis Type="Italic">C</Emphasis><Subscript>0</Subscript>-semigroups

Necessary and sufficient conditions for a scalar-type spectral operator in a Banach space to be a generator of a Carleman ultradifferentiable C ₀-semigroup are found. Cayley transform of the generator of a uniformly bounded <Emphasis Type="Italic">C</Emphasis><Subscript>0</Subscript>-semigroup of operators

We consider the problem of estimates for the powers of the Cayley transform V = (A + I)(A - I)^–1 of the generator of a uniformly bounded C ₀-semigroup of operators e ^tA , t 0, that acts in a Hilbert space H. In particular, we establish the estimate .
