For the miniaturization of optical devices, surface plasmon polaritons (SPPs) have been widely utilized due to their outstanding confinement and field‐enhancement characteristics. Analyzing a spectrum of optical signals and splitting certain regions of the spectrum range within a submicrometer‐scale structure are demanded for optical integrated systems. In this paper, a novel type of dichroic surface plasmon launcher that can switch the launching direction according to incident polarization states is demonstrated. Compared to the previously reported plasmonic dichroic splitters, the proposed schemes do not use any asymmetric geometry for directional launching. Hence, the direction of guided SPPs can be interchanged according to the polarization state. Such characteristics will be helpful to design switchable plasmonic devices that can be applied to active plasmonic integrated circuits.  相似文献

According to the resonance transition between propagating surface plasmon and localized surface plasmon, we demonstrate a design of beam splitter that can split terahertz wave beams in a relatively broad frequency range. The transmission properties of the beam splitter are analyzed utilizing the finite element method. The resonance transition between two kinds of plasmons can be explained by a model of coherent electron cloud displacement.  相似文献

Using a lithium niobate(LN) material, we propose a broadband polarization beam splitter(PBS) with high efficiency by employing a negative refractive photonic crystal(PhC) wedge slab with an angle of 60°. It can split the incident light into two parts at about 90° with TE and TM polarizations. The transmissions of polarized light for an LN-based PBS are more than 80% with a broad angle and wavelength bandwidth of 8° and 70 nm at1.55 ^rni, while with a Si-based PhC, no PBS with high efficiency can be realized for the relatively lower transmission of TM output light.  相似文献

An embedded metal-wire nanograting is designed and fabricated for the first time to our knowledge. This artificial material could be used as a broadband polarizing beam splitter to reflect s-polarized light and transmit p-polarized light. An upper-cladding layer of the same material as the gratings is deposited on the ridge of the gratings, whereas the metal wire is deposited in the grating trenches. This embedded structure makes the grating more firm in its applications. High polarization efficiency and low insertion loss with a broad wavelength range (900-1700 nm) and a wide angular tolerance are obtained by optimization of the designed structure.  相似文献

We present theoretical and experimental results of a polarization splitter device that consists of a photonic crystal (PhC) slab, which exhibits a large reflection coefficient for TE and a high transmission coefficient for TM polarization. The slab is embedded in a PhC tile operating in the self-collimation mode. Embedding the polarization-discriminating slab in a PhC with identical lattice symmetry suppresses the in-plane diffraction losses at the PhC-non-PhC interface. The optimization of the PhC-non-PhC interface is thereby decoupled from the optimization of the polarizing function. Transmissions as high as 35% for TM- and 30% for TE-polarized light are reported.  相似文献

Design and fabrication of a 2×2 two-mode interference (TMI) coupler based on-chip polarization splitter is presented. By changing the angle between the access waveguides, one can tune the effective TMI length for the mode with less optical confinement (transverse magnetic, TM) to coincide with the target TMI length for a desired transmission of the mode with higher optical confinement (transverse electric, TE). The fabricated 0.94?μm long 2×2 TMI splits the input power into TM (bar) and TE (cross) outputs with splitting ratio over 15?dB over 50?nm bandwidth. Fabrication tolerance analysis shows that the device is tolerant to fabrication errors as large as 60?nm.  相似文献

We propose an ultracompact polarization beam splitter based on an asymmetric directional coupler, which comprises of a horizontally slotted waveguide and a hybrid plasmonic waveguide. The splitter is designed such that there is a large difference between the effective indices of the TE-polarized modes for the two waveguides, while the effective index difference between the TM-polarized modes are quite small in a wide wavelength range. Numerical results demonstrate that the proposed splitter with a short device length of 5 μm shows extinction ratios as low as ?20 dB with bandwidths as great as 100 nm.  相似文献

研究及分析了光波在分束结构中的传播行为和特性,发现当增大波导邻近两侧空气孔半径时,能形成完全光子禁带范围内某一频率光波单一偏振态的传播,基于此原理提出了一种全新结构的偏振光分束器,计算与模拟结构表明,该结构可以实现TE模与TM模高效大角度分离. 器件尺寸不超过17.6 μm×9.8 μm,在集成光回路中无疑有着很大的应用潜力. 关键词: 光子晶体 偏振光分束器 时域有限差分法 平面波展开法  相似文献

We proposed a compact and simple polarization phase-shifting lateral shearing interferometer using two polarization beam splitter plates (PBSP). This interferometer is composed of two PBSP, a quarter-wave plate, an analyzer and a CCD camera. With the two PBSP positioned in appropriate spatial positions, optical path difference compensation is achieved, which allows for the implement of aplanatic and common-path shearing interferometer. Therefore, the system possesses significant advantages of simple structure, compact and strong anti-interference ability. The effectiveness of the interferometer is demonstrated by simulations and experiments.  相似文献

A tunable multi-function broadband splitter consisted of a silver film, Kerr medium and a silver grating sandwiched between linear dielectrics waveguides is proposed and numerically investigated. This splitter can realize the functions of the beam splitter, the polarization splitter and wavelength beam splitter. This surface plasmon based device provides a unique approach for polarization sensitive manipulation of light in an integrated circuit and will be essential for future classical and quantum information processes.  相似文献

The authors design an ultra-compact all-PC-integrated polarization beam splitter which is only composed of three waveguides: one input waveguide and two output waveguides. The input waveguide can support both TM and TE modes, but one of the two output waveguides can only support TM modes while the other can only support TE modes. So an incident beam will be separated into two different polarization beams which emerge from different output waveguides. By the simulation of finite-difference time-domain method, we know that the polarization beam splitter really works the way as we predict.  相似文献

在金属-电介质结构的基础上提出了一种基于金属狭缝阵列的各向异性偏振分束器,并采用有限元法研究了横磁(TM)和横电(TE)偏振光入射后结构所表现出的负反射和镜面反射等特性.计算结果表明,当偏振光的入射角设定在20?—70?时,入射的TM光发生强烈的负反射,而TE光的负反射很弱,并随着波长的增加而急剧下降.分析可得偏振分束光栅的理想负反射点和反射面的完美对称响应效果.通过仿真得到了理想负反射点的取值范围.结合严格耦合波法软件,计算不同偏振光入射时负反射和镜面反射条件下的反射率,其消光比高达10~6.  相似文献

We present a digital holography microscopy technique based on a parallel-quadrature phase-shifting method. Two π/2 phase-shifted holograms are recorded simultaneously using polarization phase-shifting principle, slightly off-axis recording geometry, and two identical CCD sensors. The parallel phase-shifting is realized by combining circularly polarized object beam with a 45° degree polarized reference beam through a polarizing beam splitter. DC term is eliminated by subtracting the two holograms from each other and the object information is reconstructed after selecting the frequency spectrum of the real image. Both amplitude and phase object reconstruction results are presented. Simultaneous recording eliminates phase errors caused by mechanical vibrations and air turbulences. The slightly off-axis recording geometry with phase-shifting allows a much larger dimension of the spatial filter for reconstruction of the object information. This leads to better reconstruction capability than traditional off-axis holography.  相似文献

A broadband non-polarizing beam splitter (NPBS) operating in the telecommunication C+L band is designed by using the guided mode resonance effect of periodic silicon-on-insulator (SOI) elements. It is shown that this double layer SOI structure can provide ~50/50 beam ratio with the maximum divergences between reflection and transmission being less than 8% over the spectrum of 1.4 μm~1.7 μm and 1% in the telecommunication band for both TE and TM polarizations. The physical basis of this broadband non-polarizing property is on the simultaneous excitation of the TE and TM strong modulation waveguide modes near the designed spectrum band. Meanwhile, the electric field distributions for both TE and TM polarizations verify the resonant origin of spectrum in the periodic SOI structure. Furthermore, it is demonstrated with our calculations that the beam splitter proposed here is tolerant to the deviations of incident angle and structure parameters, which make it very easy to be fabricated with current IC technology.  相似文献

Owing to a geometric phase effect, an isosceles triangular aperture etched into thin metal film leads to constructive or destructive interference of surface plasmons excited at the two equal sides under linearly polarized illumination. Through appropriate spatial arrangement of an array of triangles, a highly confined focal spot beyond the diffraction limit can be achieved at the geometric center under azimuthally polarized excitation with field enhancement comparable to a bull's eye plasmonic lens under radially polarized illumination. Through simply rotating the orientation of each triangle aperture by 90°, the plasmonic structure defocuses the same azimuthal polarization illumination due to destructive interference caused by a geometric π-phase difference between the two sides of the triangle and between the adjacent triangles.  相似文献
