The influence arising from overall energy conservation kinematics modification on the impulse approximation is discussed. It is found that this kinematics modification plays an important role in both deep inelastic lepton nucleon scattering and deep inelastic lepton nucleus scattering. This can give explanations of the Bjorken scaling violation and the EMC effect.  相似文献

In this note we explore the consequences of the pion cloud model for semi-inclusive deep inelastic lepton scattering. We argue that by scattering on a few-nucleon target, the detection of the recoiling target would provide a valuable test of the meson cloud model. We estimate the semi-inclusive cross section for deep inelastic lepton scattering on a3He target, as function of Bjorkenx and target recoil momentum.  相似文献

A systematic review and theoretical analysis of the experimental data on multi GeV lepton, photon, hadron, deuteron (nucleus) reactions from nuclei forbidden in the case of scattering from free nucleons is presented. It is shown that all these data can be quantitatively described as a manifestation of short-range few nucleon correlations. Calculations for elastic and (deep)inelastic electromagnetic and weak form factors of the deuteron and other nuclei, are given. The inclusive production of leading particles in the nucleus fragmentation region in high-energy lepton, hadron or nucleus-induced collisions is analyzed. The straightforward correspondence between the Weinberg equation for the light-cone wave functions of the deuteron and the non-relativistic Schrödinger equation is found. It is shown that the predictions of quantum chromodynamics for short-distance phenomena in nuclei are in agreement both with experimental data and theoretical expectations due to short range correlations in nuclei. Several feasible experiments are considered which could establish the existence of relativistic nuclear physics.  相似文献

We investigate the attenuation of hadrons in deep inelastic lepton–nucleus scattering in the kinematical regime of the HERMES and Jefferson Lab experiments. The calculation is carried out in the framework of a BUU transport model. Our results indicate a strong influence of (pre)hadronic final state interactions on the observed multiplicity ratios.  相似文献

The deep inelastic scattering of electrons (muons) and neutrinos on the nuclei and the process of lepton pair production in hadron-nucleus collisions are considered. The expressions for the corresponding differential cross-sections are derived provided the final lepton and the spectator fragment of the initial nucleus are detected in coincidence. The structure functions of the processes under consideration are analysed by the principle of automodelity. Some scale-invariant regularities are established for them. In the framework of “light front” formalism for many-body systems the relations of these structure functions to the usual structure functions of the deep inelastic lepton hadron interaction are obtained. A hypothesis is put forward on the scale invariance of structure functions with respect to the ξ-variable which is some complicated dimensionless combination of kinematic invariants.  相似文献

We reexamine deep inelastic scattering from nuclei under assumptions commonly employed in the literature: that quarks remain confined in hadronic constituents of nuclei, that the nuclear cross section is the average of the free-space cross section of hadron i weighted by the probability of finding i in the nucleus, and that there are no final state interactions between the debris of hadron i and the rest of the nucleus. We develop a cluster expansion for the cross section of deep inelastic lepton scattering and the Drell-Yan process on nuclei. Using the “instant” from of dynamics, we find that large contributions to these processes arise from nuclear interactions and correlations. However, our theory differs in detail from other approaches, and we find that binding alone is unlikely to explain the EMC effect. Also, in contrast to many recent papers on the subject, we conclude that the contribution of pions (and other nonnucleonic consistuents of the nucleus) is strongly suppressed.  相似文献

We suggest that in hard scattering processes the nuclear medium can be viewed as a background parton sea where the bound nucleons are "soaked". The quark and gluon distributions in nuclei are investigated under this assumption. The comparisons of this model with the experimental data of the structure function ratio from charged lepton deep inelastic scattering, the gluon momentum distribution ratio from inelastic J/Ψ production, and the dimuon yield ratio from Drell-Yan dimuon production are present.  相似文献

The present situation in deep inelastic lepton-nucleon scattering is reviewed from an experimenter's point of view. After describing, in some detail, the quark-parton model (QPM) predictions the basic ideas of Quantum Chromodynamics (QCD) are illustrated. The perturbative QCD predictions for deep inelastic scattering are summarised discussing also their theoretical uncertainties of today. Past and present experiments on deep inelastic electron and muon scattering are compared regarding their ability to test these predictions. It is shown that all data is in very good agreement with the QPM and fully consistent with perturbative QCD. New results on lepton scattering off nuclei are discussed and confronted to recently invented phenomenological models.  相似文献

Effective field theory methods are used to study factorization of the deep inelastic scattering cross-section. The cross-section is shown to factor in QCD, even though it does not factor in perturbation theory for some choices of the infrared regulator. Messenger modes are not required in soft-collinear effective theory for deep inelastic scattering as x→1x1.  相似文献

We study the relation between the parton model and light cone analyses for highly inelastic leptonic processes. Results are displayed which follow from scaling laws in general, independently of specific parton model predictions. We conclude that the assumptions of the light cone analysis of inelastic electron scattering are supported by the parton model. However, the parton model matrix element for massive muon pair production is not light-cone dominated, nor does it have the same light cone singularity as inelastic electron scattering.  相似文献

We analyze polarized deep inelastic electron and neutrino scattering in asymptotically free gauge theories of the strong interactions. We compute the logarithmic deviations from Bjorken scaling in the moment sum rules for the structure functions due to the leading twist-2 and -3 operators that control the light-cone expansion. We also consider continuations to the elastic limit and to the Regge region.  相似文献

Different asymmetries in polarized lepton scattering are shown to be remarkably dependent on the valence quark and lepton multiplet structure in currently discussed gauge theories. Therefore deep inelastic muon experiments at SPS energies can contribute significantly to the investigation of neutral currents.

A parton model incorporating quark confinement is discussed which (a) reproduces conventional parton model cross sections for deep inelastic lepton scattering and for large-pT hadronic phenomena, (b) leads to final state jets and (c) accounts for the similar multiplicities observed in hadronic and lepton induced final states at low pT.  相似文献

We discuss polarized lepton-proton scattering with special emphasis on the difference between target polarization defined relative to the lepton beam or to the virtual photon direction. In particular, this difference influences azimuthal distributions in the final state. We provide a general framework of analysis and apply it to the specific cases of semi-inclusive deep inelastic scattering, of exclusive meson production, and of deeply virtual Compton scattering.Received: 7 March 2005, Published online: 24 May 2005  相似文献

We calculate the corrections to the production of a hard and isolated photon accompanied by one or two jets in deep inelastic lepton nucleon scattering at HERA. Numerical results are presented and the potential of this process for studies of parton distribution functions is discussed. Received: 18 December 1997 / Published online: 10 March 1998  相似文献

The covariant parton model is used to investigate the approach to scalling in deep inelastic lepton scattering and in lepton pair production by hadron beams. The subasymptotic effects in these two reactions are controlled by rather different features. Of particular importance for lepton pair production is how far the partons are off shell before they annihilate, while for deep inelastic scattering what matters is rather the mass of the parton after it has absorbed the virtual photon. There are uncertainties because of problems with gauge invariance, but it seems that subasymptotic effects in lepton pair production may be large even at SPS/Fermilab energies.Transverse momentum and x distributions of partons in hadrons are discussed in a very simple model. In particular it is found that, while the model is constructed such that F2(x) ~ (1 ? x)3 as x → 1, for values of x up to 0.85 F2(x) is better approximated by (1 ? x)4.  相似文献
