Experimental investigations have been devoted to the study of scaling law of coarse-grained dissipation rate structure function for velocity and temperature fluctuation of non-isotropic and inhomogeneous turbulent flows at moderate Reynolds number. Much attention has been paid to the case of turbulent boundary layer, which is typically the non-istropic and inhomogeneous trubulence because of the dynamically important existence of organized coherent structure burst process in the near wall region . Longitudinal velocity and temperature have been measured at different vertical positions in turbulent boundary layer over a heated and unheated flat plate in a wind tunnel using hot wire anemometer. The influence of non-isotropy and inhomogeneity and heating the wall on the scaling law of the dissipation rate structure function is studied because of the existence of organized coherent structure burst process in the near wall region . The scaling law of coarse-grained dissipation rate structure function is foun  相似文献

The velocity, temperature and velocity fluctuation distributions within falling spindle oil films in an inclined rectangular channel were measured using hot-wire techniques and thin thermocouples. The interfacial shear was caused by cocurrent air flow. The results indicate that the liquid films are as a whole much more laminar-like than turbulent in a range of Reynolds numbers (4γ/μ) up to the experimental limit of 6000. Mixing motion occurs in the vicinity of the interface; however, the flow near the wall surface exhibits no sign of such eddy motions, as predicted by the wall law for single phase turbulent flow. Although velocity fluctuation is observed within films with interfacial shear, mean velocity profiles are approximately the same as those obtained by the laminar film prediction.  相似文献

Temperature changes have a significant influence on the measurements of Reynolds stresses in turbulent boundary layers. As compared to the spanwise velocity fluctuations the streamwise turbulence intensity is especially sensitive to temperature deviations. Although this is a general statement its importance is clearly elucidated in a shear-free turbulence near a solid wall, since the mixing due to turbulence production is minimized in this flow. A consequence of temperature influence on hot-wire measurements is that frictional heating from the wall has produced contradictory results in different experiments on shear-free turbulence. In the current paper, measurements of streamwise and spanwise turbulence intensities have been conducted at different wall temperatures, thereby simulating the contradictory results mentioned above. A simple model has been developed showing that the turbulence intensities are affected by both the rms. value of the temperature fluctuations and the correlation between fluctuating temperature and velocity. These correlations are measured and the developed model is used to explain deviations in earlier measurements on shear-free turbulence. Moreover, the individual magnitudes of the two correlations in the temperature correction are estimated and their individual importance is discussed. Thermally stratified shear turbulent channel flow with temperature oscillation on the bottom wall of the channel is calculated to investigate the behavior of turbulent flow and heat transfer by use of large eddy simulation (LES) approach coupled with dynamic subgrid-scale (SGS) models. The objective of this study is to deal with the effect of the temperature oscillation on turbulent behavior of thermally stratified turbulent channel flow and to examine the effectiveness of the LES technique for predicting statistically unsteady turbulent flow driven by time-varying buoyancy force. To validate the present calculation, thermally stratified shear turbulent channel flow is computed and compared with available data obtained by direct numerical simulation (DNS), which confirm that the present approach can be used to predict thermally stratified turbulent channel flow satisfactorily. Further, to illustrate the effect of the temperature oscillation with different Richardson numbers and periods of the oscillation on turbulence characteristics, the phase-averaged mean value and fluctuation of the resolved velocities and temperature, and instantaneous velocity fluctuation structures are analyzed.  相似文献

Velocity statistics along the stagnation line of an axi-symmetric wall stagnating turbulent flow are studied experimentally. A low turbulence, uniform air flow from a nozzle type air supply with an exit diameter of 50 mm stagnates at a wall located 50 mm downstream. A flow velocity is set to 3 m/s, 10 mm downstream from the exit of the air supply. Instantaneous values of streamwise and radial velocities are measured by laser-Doppler velocimetry. The turbulence level in the air flow is changed by use of turbulence generator. When the turbulence generator is not installed in the air supply, the mean velocity profile in the streamwise direction fits well with that of a laminar viscous flow with the rms value of velocity fluctuations low near the wall. With the turbulence generator installed, a significant turbulence structure appears near the wall. When the wall is approached, the rms value of velocity fluctuations in the streamwise direction decreases monotonically while the profile of the rms value in the radial direction reaches a maximum near the wall. The increase in the rms value of velocity fluctuations in the radial direction near the wall is attributed to the bi-modal histogram of the fluctuating velocity in the radial direction. Near the wall, the instantaneous stagnation streamline fluctuates and the probability of the mean location of the stagnation point reaches a maximum not at the stagnation line but on a circle around the stagnation line, resulting in the bi-modal histogram. Turbulence statistics, the rms value of velocity fluctuation and the turbulent kinetic energy, can be normalized successfully by similarity parameters based on the strain rate and the reference turbulent kinetic energy introduced by Champion and Libby. The paper presents a study of heat transfer between the turbulent airflow and the inner wall surface of an axial diffuser rotating around its longitudinal axis. Heat transfer was assessed through the measurement of a time-dependent temperature field of the diffuser inner wall surface. Measurements of the instantaneous flow velocity components were performed by a laser–Doppler anemometry system, which delivered information on mean velocity components as well as on the turbulence intensity. A significant increase of all three mean velocity components was observed near the rotating diffuser wall in comparison with a non-rotating diffuser. Temperature field measurements were carried out by means of infrared thermography. The experiment showed a significant dependence of the temperature field on the turbulent flowfield induced by diffuser rotation. A strong influence of the flow separation and reattachment on the temperature distribution was observed, while rotation was found to suppress the occurrence of flow separation from the diffuser wall. Properties of the velocity field such as turbulent kinetic energy were directly coupled with the temperature distribution in order to gain the information on how to enhance or reduce heat transfer by changing the integral parameters of the diffuser (e.g. rotation frequency or amount of flow).  相似文献

Large-eddy simulation (LES) on a spatially developing natural convection boundary layer along a vertical heated plate was conducted. The heat transfer rate, friction velocity, mean velocity and temperature, and second-order turbulent properties both in the wall-normal and the stream-wise direction showed reasonable agreement with the findings of past experiments. The spectrum of velocity and temperature fluctuation showed a -2/3-power decay slope and -2-power decay slope respectively. Quadrant analysis revealed the inclination on Q1 and Q3 in the Reynolds stress and turbulent heat flux, changing their contribution along the distance from the plate surface. Following the convention, we defined the threshold region where the stream-wise mean velocity takes local maximum, the inner layer which is closer to the plate than the threshold region, the outer layer which is farther to the plate than the threshold region. The space correlation of stream-wise velocity tilted the head toward the wall in the propagating direction in the outer layer; on the other hand, the correlated motion had little inclination in the threshold region. The time history of the second invariant of gradient tensor Q revealed that the vortex strength oscillates both in the inner and the outer layers in between the laminar and the transition region. In the turbulent region, the vortex was often dominant in the outer layer. Instantaneous three-dimensional visualization of Q revealed the existence of high-speed fluid parcels associated with arch-shape vortices. These results were considered as an intrinsic structure in the outer layer, which is symmetrical to the structure of canonical smooth/rough wall bounded layer flow in forced convection.  相似文献

Measurements of mean velocity components, mean flow direction, turbulent intensities and Reynolds shear stress were made with a split film probe of hot wire anemometer to investigate the flow field generated by two identical jets of air issuing from plane parallel nozzles in a common end wall and mixing with the ambient room air. Due to the sensitivity of the split film probe to the flow direction, the reverse flow in the converging region was detected by the split film probe and observed by flow visualization. The mean velocity approaches self-preservation in both the converging and the combined regions, while the turbulent intensities and Reynolds shear stress approach self-preservation in the combined region only. The trajectory of the maximum velocity is almost unchanged by variance of nozzle spacing in the converging region. The distance of the merging point from the nozzle exit increases linearly with nozzle spacing. The spread of the converging jet increases more rapidly than that of the combined jet.  相似文献

The present experimental work is devoted to in- vestigate a new space-time correlation model for the turbulent boundary layer over a flat and a wavy walls. A turbulent boundary layer flow at Reo = 2460 is measured by tomographic time-resolved particle image velocimetry (Tomo-TRPIV). The space-time correlations of instantaneous streamwise fluctuation velocity are calculated at 3 different wall-normal locations in logarithmic layer. It is found that the scales of coherent structure increase with moving far away from the wall. The growth of scales is a manifestation of the growth of prevalent coherent structures in the turbulent boundary layer like hairpin vortex or hairpin packets when they lift up. The resulting contours of the space-time correlation exhibit elliptic-like shapes rather than straight lines. It is suggested that, instead of Taylor hypothesis, the elliptic model of the space-time correlation is valid for the wallbounded turbulent flow over either a flat wall or a wavy wall. The elliptic iso-correlation curves have a uniform preferred orientation whose slope is determined by the convection velocity. The convection velocity derived from the space-time correlation represents the velocity at which the large-scale eddies carry small-scale eddies. The sweep velocity rep- resents the distortions of the small-scale eddies and is intimately associated with the fluctuation velocity in the logarithmic layer of turbulent boundary layers. The nondimensionalized correlation curves confirm that the elliptic model is more proper for approximating the space-time correlation than Taylor hypothesis, because the latter can not embody the small-scale motions which have non-negligible distortions. A second flow over a wavy wall is also recorded using TRPIV. Due to the combined effect of shear layers and the adverse pressure gradient, the space-time correlation does not show an elliptic-like shape at some specific heights over the wavy wall, but in the outer region of the wavy wallbounded flow, the elliptic model remai  相似文献

The calculation of the mass flux/velocity gradient transfer function at a wall in the direction parallel to the wall and perpendicular to the mean flow direction, has been performed in linear conditions. This transfer function is relevant to the difference of the mass fluxes between two semicircular surfaces separated by an infinitely thin gap aligned with the flow direction.Electrochemical measurements in turbulent flow were performed with segmented electrodes having this geometry and devised by a photolithographic technique. The spectra of the velocity gradient fluctuations in the longitudinal and transverse directions were calculated and hence the turbulence intensities.  相似文献

An experimental study was conducted to investigate the effect of bottom wall heating on the flow structure inside a horizontal square channel at low Reynolds numbers (Re) and high Grashof numbers (Gr). The flow field was found to be complex and three-dimensional due to the interactions of buoyancy-induced rising plumes of warm fluid, falling parcels of cold fluid and the shear flow. The mean streamwise velocity profiles were altered by bottom wall heating; and back flow was induced in the upper half of the channel when Gr/Re2 > 55. The bottom wall temperatures were found to have more significant influence on the turbulent velocity magnitudes than the flow rate. The Reynolds stress became negative in the channel core region indicating the momentum transfer from the turbulent velocity field to the buoyancy field. The POD analysis revealed the presence of convective cells primarily in the lower half of the channel.  相似文献

Measurements have been made of the distributions of mean velocity, turbulence intensities and turbulence shear-stress in a turbulent boundary-layer downstream of a hemi-spherical cap attached onto the plane rigid wall. The eddy-viscosity, when computed in the classical way according to Boussinesq's concept from the lateral gradient of the mean velocity and the turbulence shear-stress, showed a very strong non-uniform lateral distribution, also across the outer region of the boundary-layer. Moreover, the non-dimensional values of the eddy-viscosity, using the wall-friction velocity and the boundary-layer thickness as the velocity scale and length scale respectively, were higher than those for the boundary-layer when not disturbed by the wake of the spherical cap. However, when account is taken of an axial memory effect of the stream-wise variation of the lateral gradient of the mean-velocity, the values of the non-dimensional eddy viscosity are close to those for the undisturbed boundary-layer.  相似文献

This structure of turbulent flow in an annulus with strong inner cylinder wall heating has been studied in terms of velocity and temperature with wall temperatures up to 707 °C and a Reynolds number of 48,000. With increase in wall heating, the turbulence very close to the wall was suppressed due to an increase in the kinematic viscosity. In the inner region, the intermittent mixing became intensive and the turbulent intensity increased whereas, in the outer region, the turbulence was suppressed since intermittent mixing was no longer effective. The results show that the thermal structure can be considered in terms of a passive scalar for wall temperatures less then around 200 °C, except in the leading region of the heated area. Development behavior of the fluctuating velocity of surfactant solution in a duct has been studied experimentally. The concentration of surfactants was kept constant at 1,000 ppm, mean velocity at 0.78 m/s and fluid temperature at 15 °C. Using laser Doppler velocimetry, the fluctuating streamwise velocity distributions at six cross sections, which ranged from 14 to 112 times of hydraulic diameter of the duct, were measured. From the results, the fluctuating structures of surfactant solution flow are observed to have structures different from that of turbulent water flow in the developing field. The wavelet analysis reveals that the high-level fluctuation of surfactant solution flow is characterized by periodicity rather than irregularity around the position where the fluctuation intensity takes a peak value and that the period and the scale of periodic flow structures are related to the relaxation times of the fluid. This indicates that the high-level fluctuation is deeply related to the elastic instability and has a different generation mechanism from that of turbulence observed in a Newtonian turbulent flow.  相似文献

In the present work we describe how turbulent skin-friction drag reduction obtained through near-wall turbulence manipulation modifies the spectral content of turbulent fluctuations and Reynolds shear stress with focus on the largest scales. Direct Numerical Simulations (DNS) of turbulent channels up to Re τ = 1000 are performed in which drag reduction is achieved either via artificially removing wall-normal turbulent fluctuations in the vicinity of the wall or via streamwise-travelling waves of spanwise wall velocity. This near-wall turbulence manipulation is shown to modify turbulent spectra in a broad range of scales throughout the whole channel. Above the buffer layer, the observed changes can be predicted, exploiting the vertical shift of the logarithmic portion of the mean streamwise velocity profile, which is a classic performance measure for wall roughness or drag-reducing riblets. A simple model is developed for predicting the large-scale contribution to turbulent fluctuation and Reynolds shear stress spectra in drag-reduced turbulent channels in which a flow control acts at the wall. Any drag-reducing control that successfully interacts with large scales should deviate from the predictions of the present model, making it a useful benchmark for assessing the capability of a control to affect large scales directly.  相似文献

The natural dissimilarity or decorrelation of stream-wise velocity and temperature fluctuations in fully developed turbulent channel and plane Couette flows was studied using direct numerical simulation (DNS). For both of the flow configurations, a Reynolds number of about 150 was used based on the friction velocity and half the distance between walls. Buoyancy effects were neglected, and only results with a molecular Prandtl number, Pr, equal to 1 are presented. The boundary conditions for the thermal field were a uniform source of energy in the domain and isothermal wall temperature for the channel and Couette flow, respectively. The importance of those events responsible for wall-normal turbulent fluxes in the generation of axial velocity and temperature dissimilarity was examined using conditional probability. It was found that the dissimilarity in the whole domain was higher in Couette than in channel flow. It was also found that for wall-normal turbulent fluxes (momentum and heat), the averaged dissimilarity in the whole domain was slightly more correlated with those events in the second or fourth quadrant, according to the quadrant analysis technique. For channel flow, the importance of both kinds of events was similar, while for Couette flow there was a predominance in the generation of dissimilarity by those events in the fourth quadrant. Also, for both flow configurations and throughout the wall-normal direction, it was found that in the buffer region there was a predominance of events in the fourth quadrant associated with dissimilarity for both wall-normal turbulent fluxes. In the frequency domain, the distribution of energy showed that there was a high-frequency shift experienced from the wall towards the centerline by the temperature spectrum with regards to the axial velocity spectrum, for which the action of the fluctuations of the wall-normal velocity was the main cause. In the central region of the flow, on the other hand, there was a global convergence of all spectra towards the pressure spectrum, with this convergence lower for Couette flow. Finally, it is shown that the dissimilarity in developed conditions is caused by the greater correlation existing for the temperature fluctuation with the instantaneous axial pressure gradient than for the velocity fluctuation with the instantaneous axial pressure gradient.  相似文献

An approach to derive turbulent scaling laws based on symmetry analysis is presented. It unifies a large set of scaling laws for the mean velocity of stationary parallel turbulent shear flows. The approach is derived from the Reynolds averaged Navier–Stokes equations, the fluctuation equations, and the velocity product equations, which are the dyad product of the velocity fluctuations with the equations for the velocity fluctuations. For the plane case the results include the logarithmic law of the wall, an algebraic law, the viscous sublayer, the linear region in the centre of a Couette flow and in the centre of a rotating channel flow, and a new exponential mean velocity profile that is found in the mid-wake region of high Reynolds number flat-plate boundary layers. The algebraic scaling law is confirmed in both the centre and the near wall regions in both experimental and DNS data of turbulent channel flows. For a non-rotating and a moderately rotating pipe about its axis an algebraic law was found for the axial and the azimuthal velocity near the pipe-axis with both laws having equal scaling exponents. In case of a rapidly rotating pipe, a new logarithmic scaling law for the axial velocity is developed. The key elements of the entire analysis are two scaling symmetries and Galilean invariance. Combining the scaling symmetries leads to the variety of different scaling laws. Galilean invariance is crucial for all of them. It has been demonstrated that two-equation models such as the k– model are not consistent with most of the new turbulent scaling laws.  相似文献

Velocity-temperature correlation in strongly heated channel flow   总被引:2,自引:0,他引:2
Velocity-temperature correlations in a strongly heated channel flow were investigated experimentally by a LDV and a resistance thermometer. The wall heat flux is varied up to 50,000 W/m2 with reference mean-velocity of 15 m/s, and then, the wall temperature reaches up to 1,000 K. The results show that the ejection fluid motion is intensified by the strong heating near the wall increasing the turbulent heat flux from the wall. The intensification of ejection motion balances the destruction of turbulent heat flux. Then, the overall turbulent heat transfer does not change clearly.
