An analysis is performed to study the effects of the chemical reaction and heat generation or absorption on a steady mixed convection boundary layer flow over a vertical stretching sheet with nonuniform slot mass transfer. The governing boundary layer equations with boundary conditions are transformed into the dimensionless form by a group of nonsimilar transformations. Nonsimilar solutions are obtained numerically by solving the coupled nonlinear partial differential equations using the quasi-linearization technique combined with an implicit finite difference scheme. The numerical computations are carried out for different values of dimensionless parameters to display the distributions of the velocity, temperature, concentration, local skin friction coefficient, local Nusselt number, and local Sherwood number. The results obtained indicate that the local Nusselt and Sherwood numbers increase with nonuniform slot suction, but nonuniform slot injection produces the opposite effect. The local Nusselt number decreases with heat generation and increases with heat absorption.  相似文献

Magnetohydrodynamic (MHD) bioconvection of an incompressible electrically conducting nanofluid near a vertical wavy surface saturated porous medium containing both nanoparticle and gyrotactic microorganisms is investigated. The nanofluid is represented by a model that includes both Brownian motion and thermophoresis effects. A suitable set of non-dimensional variables are used to transform the governing boundary layer equations into a dimensionless form. The resulting nonlinear system is mapped to the vertical flat plate domain, and a non-similar solution is used to the obtained equations. The obtained non-similar system is then solved numerically using the fourth-order Runge-Kutta method. The influence of various physical parameters on the local Nusselt number, the local Sherwood number, the local density number of the motile microorganisms, the dimensionless velocity, the dimensionless temperature, and the rescaled density of motile microorganisms is studied. It is found that the local Nusselt number, the local Sherwood number, and the local density number of the motile microorganisms decrease by increasing either the Grashof number or the magnetic field parameter.  相似文献

The effects of non-uniform heat generation/absorption and viscous dissipation on heat transfer of a non-Newtonian power-law fluid on a non-linearly stretching surface have been examined. The governing nonlinear partial differential equations describing the problem are transformed to a system of non-linear ordinary differential equations by using suitable similarity transformation. The transformed system of ordinary differential equations is solved numerically using fourth order Runge-Kutta method with the shooting technique. Graphical solutions for the dimensionless temperature are presented and discussed for various values of the power-law index parameter, the Prandtl number, the heat generation/absorption parameter and the Eckert number. The results show that the local Nusselt number is reduced with increasing the Eckert number or the heat generation parameter, whereas the heat absorption parameter has the effect of enhancing the local Nusselt number.  相似文献

The problem of double-diffusive convection in inclined finned triangular porous enclosures for various thermal and concentration boundary conditions and in the presence of heat source or sink was studied. The finite difference method was employed to solve the dimensionless governing equations of the problem. The effects of the governing parameters, namely the dimensionless time parameter, the inclination angle, Darcy number, heat generation/absorption parameter, the buoyancy parameter and the Rayleigh number on the streamlines, temperature and concentration contours as well as selected velocity component in the x-direction, local and average Nusselt numbers and local and average Sherwood number at the heated and concentrated wall for various values of the aspect ratio and the position of the fin were considered. The present results are validated by favorable comparisons with previously published results. All the results of the problem were presented in graphical and tabular forms and discussed.  相似文献

A numerical study of the steady conjugate free convection over a vertical slender, hollow circular cylinder with the inner surface at a constant temperature and embedded in a porous medium is reported. The governing boundary layer equations for the fluid-saturated porous medium over the cylinder along with the one-dimensional heat conduction equation for the cylinder are cast into dimensionless form, by using a non-similarity transformation. The resulting non-similarity equations with their corresponding boundary conditions are solved by using the Keller box method. Emphasis is placed on the effects caused by the wall conduction parameter, p, and calculations have covered a wide range of this parameter. Heat transfer results including the temperature profiles, the interface temperature profiles and the local Nusselt number are presented. Received on 17 November 1997  相似文献

The non-Newtonian effect in the boundary layer flow over a horizontal elliptical cylinder is investigated numerically. A modified power-law viscosity model is used to correlate the non-Newtonian characteristics of the fluid flow. For natural convectionflows, the surface of the cylinder is maintained by the uniform surface temperature(UST)or the uniform heat flux(UHF) condition. The governing equations corresponding to theflow are first transformed into a dimensionless non-similar form using suit...  相似文献

The heat and mass transfer characteristics of natural convection about a vertical surface embedded in a saturated porous medium subjected to a chemical reaction is numerically analyzed, by taking into account the diffusion-thermo (Dufour) and thermal-diffusion (Soret) effects. The transformed governing equations are solved by a very efficient numerical method, namely, a modified version of the Keller-box method for ordinary differential equations. The parameters of the problem are Lewis, Dufour and Soret numbers, sustentation parameter, the order of the chemical reaction n and the chemical reaction parameter γ. Local Nusselt number and local Sherwood number variations and dimensionless concentration profiles in the boundary layer are presented graphically and in tables for various values of problem parameters and it is concluded that γ and n play a crucial role in the solution.  相似文献

A numerical study is performed to examine the heat transfer characteristics of natural convection past a vertical cone under the combined effects of magnetic field and thermal radiation. The surface of the cone is subjected to a variable surface heat flux. The fluid considered is a gray,absorbing-emitting radiation but a non-scattering medium. With approximate transformations, the boundary layer equations governing the flow are reduced to non-dimensional equations valid in the free convection regime. The dimensionless governing equations are solved by an implicit finite difference method of Crank-Nicolson type which is fast convergent, accurate, and unconditionally stable.Numerical results are obtained and presented for velocity, temperature, local and average wall shear stress, and local and average Nusselt number in air and water. The present results are compared with the previous published work and are found to be in excellent agreement.  相似文献

This paper examined the hydromagnetic mixed convection stagnation point flow towards a vertical plate embedded in a highly porous medium with radiation and internal heat generation. The governing boundary layer equations are formulated and transformed into a set of ordinary differential equations using a local similarity approach and then solved numerically by shooting iteration technique together with Runge-Kutta sixth-order integration scheme. A representative set of numerical results are displayed graphically and discussed quantitatively to show some interesting aspects of the pertinent parameters on the dimensionless axial velocity, temperature and the concentration profiles, local skin friction, local Nusselt number and local Sherwood number, the rate of heat and mass transfer. Good agreement is found between the numerical results of the present paper with the earlier published works under some special cases.  相似文献

A boundary layer analysis is presented to investigate numerically the effects of radiation, thermophoresis and the dimensionless heat generation or absorption on hydromagnetic flow with heat and mass transfer over a flat surface in a porous medium. The boundary layer equations are transformed to non-linear ordinary differential equations using scaling group of transformations and they are solved numerically by using the fourth order Runge-Kutta method with shooting technique for some values of physical parameters.Comparisons with previously published work are performed and the results are found to be in very good agreement. Many results are obtained and a representative set is displayed graphically to illustrate the influence of the various parameters on the dimensionless velocity, temperature and concentration profiles as well as the local skin-friction coefficient, wall heat transfer, particle deposition rate and wall thermophoretic deposition velocity. The results show that the magnetic field induces acceleration of the flow, rather than deceleration(as in classical magnetohydrodynamics(MHD) boundary layer flow) but to reduce temperature and increase concentration of particles in boundary layer. Also, there is a strong dependency of the concentration in the boundary layer on both the Schmidt number and mass transfer parameter.  相似文献

The problem of natural convective heat transfer for a non-Newtonian fluid from an impermeable vertical plate embedded in a fluid-saturated porous medium has been analyzed. Non-Darcian, radiative and thermal dispersion effects have been considered in the present analysis. The governing boundary layer equations and boundary conditions are cast into a dimensionless form and simplified by using a similarity transformation. The resulting system of equations is solved by using a double shooting Runge–Kutta method. The effect of viscosity index n, the conduction–radiation parameter R, the non-Darcy parameter Gr*, the thermal dispersion parameter Ds and the suction/injection parameter fw on the fluid velocities, temperatures and the local Nusselt number are discussed.  相似文献

An analysis is presented to investigate the effects of thermophoresis variable viscosity on MHD mixed convective heat and mass transfer of a viscous, incompressible and electrically conducting fluid past a porous wedge in the presence of chemical reaction. The wall of the wedge is embedded in a uniform porous medium in order to allow for possible fluid wall suction or injection. The governing boundary layer equations are written into a dimensionless form by local non-similarity transformations. The transformed coupled nonlinear ordinary differential equations are solved numerically by using the R.K. Gill and shooting methods. Favorable comparison with previously published work is performed. Numerical results for the dimensionless velocity, temperature and concentration profiles are obtained and displayed graphically for pertinent parameters to show interesting aspects of the solution.  相似文献

The influence of thermal radiation on the flow and heat transfer within Newtonian liquid film over an unsteady stretching sheet with and without thermocapillarity is examined. The governing non‐linear partial differential equations describing the problem are reduced to a system of nonlinear ordinary differential equations using similarity transformation, which is solved numerically for different values of the thermal radiation parameter and the thermocapillarity parameter. The results show that the dimensionless velocity, the film thickness and the local Nusselt number increase as the thermocapillarity parameter increases, while the free surface temperature decreases with increasing the thermocapillarity parameter. Also, both the dimensionless temperature and the free surface temperature increase and the local Nusselt number decreases as the thermal radiation parameter increases. In this paper an analysis has been made to study heat and mass transfer in two-dimensional stagnation-point flow of an incompressible viscous fluid over a stretching vertical sheet in the presence of buoyancy force and thermal radiation. The similarity solution is used to transform the problem under consideration into a boundary value problem of nonlinear coupled ordinary differential equations containing Prandtl number, Schmidt number and Sherwood number which are solved numerically with appropriate boundary conditions for various values of the dimensionless parameters. Comparison of the present numerical results are found to be in excellent with the earlier published results under limiting cases. The effects of various physical parameters on the boundary layer velocity, temperature and concentration profiles are discussed in detail for both the cases of assisting and opposing flows. The computed values of the skin friction coefficient, local Nusselt number and Sherwood number are discussed for various values of physical parameters. The tabulated results show that the effect of radiation is to increase skin friction coefficient, local Nusselt number and Sherwood number.  相似文献

The Dufour and Soret effects on the unsteady two-dimensional magnetohydro-dynamics(MHD) double-diffusive free convective flow of an electrically conducting fluidpast a vertical plate embedded in a non-Darcy porous medium are investigated numeri-cally.The governing non-linear dimensionless equations are solved by an implicit finitedifference scheme of the Crank-Nicolson type with a tridiagonal matrix manipulation. The effects of various parameters entering into the problem on the unsteady dimension-less velocity, temperature, and concentration profiles are studied in detail.Furthermore, the time variation of the skin friction coefficient, the Nusselt number, and the Sherwoodnumber is presented and analyzed. The results show that the unsteady velocity,tem-perature,and concentration profiles are substantially influenced by the Dufour and Soreteffects. When the Dufour number increases or the Soret number decreases, both the skinfriction and the Sherwood number decrease, while the Nusselt number increases. It isfound that, when the magnetic parameter increases, the velocity and the temperaturedecrease in the boundary layer.  相似文献

This paper uses thermal non-equilibrium model to study transient heat transfer by natural convection of a nanofluid over a vertical wavy surface. The model used for the nanofluid incorporates the effects of Brownian motion and thermophoresis. Three-temperature model is applied to represent the local thermal non-equilibrium among the particle, fluid, and solid-matrix phases. Finite difference method is used to solve the dimensionless governing equations of the problem. The obtained results are displayed in 2D graphs to illustrate the influences of the different physical parameters on local skin-friction coefficient, local Nusselt numbers for fluid, particle and solid phases and local Sherwood number. The results for velocity component, nanoparticle volume fraction, fluid temperature, particle temperature and solid-matrix temperature are presented in 3D graphs as a function of the axial and transverse coordinates. All the obtained results are discussed.  相似文献

The free convection of non-Newtonian nanofluids along a vertical plate in porous medium is investigated numerically. It is assumed that the medium contains gyrotactic microorganisms along with nanoparticles and the plate is subjected to prescribed temperature, concentration of nanoparticles and density of motile microorganisms. It is further assumed that the plate is impermeable. The governing partial differential equations are reduced to nonlinear ordinary differential equations using similarity transformations. The nonlinear ordinary differential equations are then solved by a finite difference numerical method. The effects of controlling parameters on several dimensionless quantities and numbers of our interest are investigated. The numerical results are compared with the published data and an excellent agreement has been found. It is found that nanofluid and bioconvection parameters have strong effects on local Nusselt, Sherwood and density numbers.  相似文献
