Primal- und Dual-Algorithmen zur Optimierung von Markov-Prozessen

Zusammenfassung In dem folgenden Aufsatz sollen zwei Algorithmen zur Optimierung vonMarkov-Prozessen, die vonDantzig-Wolfe undHoward entwickelt wurden, diskutiert werden. Es kann gezeigt werden, daß der Algorithmus vonHoward ein Dualproblem behandelt, während beim Verfahren vonDantzig-Wolfe ein Primal-Problem zugrunde gelegt wurde. Beide Algorithmen weisen eine Schar von sich entsprechenden Vor- und Nachteilen auf, die miteinander verglichen werden.

Summary In the following paper two algorithms byDantzig-Wolfe andHoward dealing with the optimization ofMarkov processes are discussed. It can be shown thatHoward's algorithm is based on the dual formulation of the problem, whereasDantzig-Wolfe are treating the primal problem. Both algorithms have a host of corresponding advantages and disadvantages, which are compared.

Analytic Semigroups on C [0,1] Generated by Some Classes of Second Order Differential Operators

C [0,1], α > 0 in (0,1) and α(1), we consider the second order differential operator on C[0,1] defined by Au: = αu″ + βu′, where D(A) may include Wentzell boundary conditions. Under integrability conditions involving √α and β/√α, we prove the analyticity of the semigroup generated by (A,D(A)) on Co[0,1], Cπ[0,1] and on C[0,1], where Co[0,1]: {u∈ C[0,1]|u (1)} and Cπ[0,1]: = {u∈ C[0,1]| u (0) = u (1)}. We also prove different characterizations of D(A) related to some results in [1], where β≡ 0, exhibiting peculiarities of Wentzell boundary conditions. Applications can be derived for the case αx = x ^k (1 - x )^kγ(x )(k≥j/2, x∈ [0,1], γ∈ C{0,1}).

On a Product of Finite Monoids

m , we associate with a finite monoid S ₀ and m finite commutative monoids S ₁ ,...,S _m , a product ◊ _m (S _m , ..., S ₁ , S ₀ ). We give a representation of the free objects in the pseudovariety ◊ _m (W _m , ..., W ₁, W ₀) generated by these (m + 1) -ary products where S ₁ ∈W _i for all 0 ≤i≤m . We then give, in particular, a criterion to determine when an identity holds in ◊ _m (J ₁, ..., J ₁, J ₁) with the help of a version of the Ehrenfeucht-Fra?ssé game (J ₁ denotes the pseudovariety of all semilattice monoids.). The union U _{m > 0} ◊ _m (J ₁, ..., J ₁, J ₁) turns out to be the second level of the Straubing's dot-depth hierarchy of aperiodic monoids.

Sunto è noto cheDarboux, Weierstrass eCurtiss hanno dato tre differenti estensioni della formula del valor medio alle funzioni di variabile complessa. Nella presente Memoria si danno alcune estensioni dei risultati diCurtiss ad un'espressione (in cui compaiono i valori di una data funzione inn+1 punti) analoga a quella a cui recentemente il prof.Montel ha esteso le formule diDarboux e diWeierstrass. Lavoro eseguito nel Seminario Matematico della R. Scuola Normale Superiore di Pisa.     

A theorem on the absolute Cesàro summability of factored fourier series

Summary In this paper, the author proves a theorem on the absoluteCesàro summability of factoredFourier series. His theorem extends a theorem ofMatsumoto and generalizes a theorem ofPrasad andBhatt.     

Gaps in the Cardinalities of Row Spaces of Boolean Matrices
