We consider the majority rule renormalization group transformation with two-by-two blocks for the Ising model on a two-dimensional square lattice. For three particular choices of the block spin configuration we prove that the model conditioned on the block spin configuration remains in the high-temperature phase even when the temperature is slightly below the critical temperature of the ordinary Ising model with no conditioning. We take as the definition of the infinite-volume limit an equation introduced in earlier work by the author. We use a computer to find an approximate solution of this equation and verify a condition which implies the existence of an exact solution.  相似文献

The relation between a recently introduced dynamical real-space renormalization group and the fluctuation-dissipation theorem is discussed. An apparent incompatibility is pointed out and resolved.  相似文献

The tensor renormalization group (TRG) is a powerful new approach for coarse-graining classical two-dimensional (2D) lattice Hamiltonians. It uses the intuitive framework of traditional position space renormalization group methods-analyzing flows in the space of Hamiltonian parameters-but can be systematically improved to yield thermodynamic properties at much higher precision. We present initial results demonstrating that the TRG can be generalized to quenched random systems, applying it to obtain the phase diagram of a bond-diluted triangular lattice Ising ferromagnet. This opens a variety of potential future applications, most prominently spin glasses.  相似文献

We obtain a resolution of the identity operator, for functions on a latticeZ d, which is derived from the block renormalization group. We use eigenfunctions of the terms of the decomposition to form a basis forl 2(Zd) and show how the basis is generated from lattice wavelets. The lattice spacing is taken to zero and continuum wavelets are obtained.  相似文献

The field-theoretic renormalization group is used to derive scaling relations for the transport of passive scalars by an incompressible velocity field with a specified energy spectrum. Results are obtained with the analog of the expansion of critical phenomena and compared to exact results which are available for shear flows in two dimensions.A 1/N expansion is proposed for the regions in which the expansion fails.  相似文献

We discuss the generalization of a renormalization group technique developed previously for the study of ordering in unstable systems in the context of the ferromagnetic Ising model with spin-flip dynamics. Difficulties encountered in earlier work are eliminated through the use of new recursion relations dependent on a continuous spatial rescaling factorb 1. A more careful analysis and implementation of the approximation scheme is carried out. Our improved method allows the study of the anisotropy of the time-dependent structure factor and the pre-scaling behavior of the shape function.  相似文献

We review and extend in several directions recent results on the “asymptotic safety” approach to quantum gravity. The central issue in this approach is the search of a Fixed Point having suitable properties, and the tool that is used is a type of Wilsonian renormalization group equation. We begin by discussing various cutoff schemes, i.e. ways of implementing the Wilsonian cutoff procedure. We compare the beta functions of the gravitational couplings obtained with different schemes, studying first the contribution of matter fields and then the so-called Einstein-Hilbert truncation, where only the cosmological constant and Newton’s constant are retained. In this context we make connection with old results, in particular we reproduce the results of the epsilon expansion and the perturbative one-loop divergences. We then apply the Renormalization Group to higher derivative gravity. In the case of a general action quadratic in curvature we recover, within certain approximations, the known asymptotic freedom of the four-derivative terms, while Newton’s constant and of the cosmological constant have a nontrivial fixed point. In the case of actions that are polynomials in the scalar curvature of degree up to eight we find that the theory has a fixed point with three UV-attractive directions, so that the requirement of having a continuum limit constrains the couplings to lie in a three-dimensional subspace, whose equation is explicitly given. We emphasize throughout the difference between scheme-dependent and scheme-independent results, and provide several examples of the fact that only dimensionless couplings can have “universal” behavior.  相似文献

We present a detailed discussion of a novel dynamical renormalization group scheme: the dynamically driven renormalization group (DDRG). This is a general renormalization method developed for dynamical systems with non-equilibrium critical steady state. The method is based on a real-space renormalization scheme driven by a dynamical steady-state condition which acts as a feedback on the transformation equations. This approach has been applied to open nonlinear systems such as self-organized critical phenomena, and it allows the analytical evaluation of scalling dimensions and critical exponents. Equilibrium models at the critical point can also be considered. The explicit application to some models and the corresponding results are discussed.  相似文献

We discuss the Polyakov effective action for a minimally coupled scalar field on a two dimensional curved space by considering a non-local covariant truncation of the effective average action. We derive the flow equation for the form factor in , and we show how the standard result is obtained when we integrate the flow from the ultraviolet to the infrared.  相似文献

We present the first numerical application of a method that we have recently proposed to solve the Non Perturbative Renormalization Group equations and obtain the n-point functions for arbitrary external momenta. This method leads to flow equations for the n-point functions which are also differential equations with respect to a constant background field. This makes them, a priori, difficult to solve. However, we demonstrate in this paper that, within a simple approximation which turns out to be quite accurate, the solution of these flow equations is not more complicated than that of the flow equations obtained in the derivative expansion. Thus, with a numerical effort comparable to that involved in the derivative expansion, we can get the full momentum dependence of the n-point functions. The method is applied, in its leading order, to the calculation of the self-energy in a 3-dimensional scalar field theory, at criticality. Accurate results are obtained over the entire range of momenta.  相似文献

A fermionic version of Dyson's hierarchical model is defined. An exact renormalization group transformation is given as a rational transformation of two-dimensional parameter space. Two branches of nontrivial fixed points are described, one of which bifurcates from the trivial Gaussian branch. The existence of the thermodynamic limit for these branches of fixed points is investigated.  相似文献

In arXiv:1202.4298 gauge invariant interacting equations were written down for the spin 2 and spin 3 massive modes using the exact renormalization group of a world sheet theory. This is generalized to all the higher levels in this paper. An interacting theory of an infinite tower of massive higher spins is obtained. They appear as a compactification of a massless theory in one higher dimension. The compactification and consequent mass is essential for writing the interaction terms. Just as for spin 2 and spin 3, the interactions are in terms of gauge invariant “field strengths” and the gauge transformations are the same as for the free theory. This theory can then be truncated in a gauge invariant way by removing one oscillator of the extra dimension to match the field content of BRST string (field) theory. The truncation has to be done level by level and results are given explicitly for level 4. At least up to level 5, the truncation can be done in a way that preserves the higher-dimensional structure. There is a relatively straightforward generalization of this construction to (arbitrary) curved space–time and this is also outlined.  相似文献

We show that, in the low-scale type-I seesaw model, renormalization group running of neutrino parameters may lead to significant modifications of the leptonic mixing angles in view of so-called seesaw threshold effects. Especially, we derive analytical formulas for radiative corrections to neutrino parameters in crossing the different seesaw thresholds, and show that there may exist enhancement factors efficiently boosting the renormalization group running of the leptonic mixing angles. We find that, as a result of the seesaw threshold corrections to the leptonic mixing angles, various flavor symmetric mixing patterns (e.g., bi-maximal and tri-bimaximal mixing patterns) can be easily accommodated at relatively low energy scales, which is well within the reach of running and forthcoming experiments (e.g., the LHC).  相似文献

We present a new non-perturbative renormalization group for classical simple fluids. The theory is built in the Grand Canonical ensemble and also in the framework of two equivalent scalar field theories. The exact mapping between the three renormalization flows is established rigorously. In the Grand Canonical ensemble the theory may be seen as an extension of the Hierarchical Reference Theory [Adv. Phys. 44, 211 (1995)] but, however, does not suffer from its shortcomings at subcritical temperatures. In the framework of a new canonical field theory for the liquid state developed with that aim, our construction identifies with the effective average action approach developed recently [Phys. Rep. 363 (2002)].  相似文献

In this letter we employing the effective-field renormalization group (EFRG) to study the Ising model with nearest neighbors to obtain the reduced critical temperature and exponents ν for bi- and three-dimensional lattices by increasing cluster scheme by extending recent works. The technique follows up the same strategy of the mean field renormalization group (MFRG) by introducing an alternative way for constructing classical effective-field equations of state takes on rigorous Ising spin identities.  相似文献

The free energy of a thermodynamic system is known to be a concave function of the temperature. This fact is used, together with some results due to Fisher, to deduce bounds on the internal energy of the two-dimensional Ising model, given reasonably accurate upper and lower bounds on the free energy. These free energy bounds are derived from renormalization group transformations. Unfortunately, the numerical accuracy of the bounds on the internal energy is poor. The reasons for the failure are discussed.  相似文献

We analyze quantitatively the interplay between explicit and implicit renormalization in Nuclear Physics. By explicit renormalization we mean to integrate out higher energy modes below a given cutoff scale using the similarity renormalization group (SRG) with a block-diagonal evolution generator, which separates the total Hilbert-space into a model space and its complementary. In the implicit renormalization we impose given conditions at low energies for a cutoff theory. In both cases we compare the outcoming effective interactions as functions of the cutoff scale. We carry out a comprehensive analysis of a toy-model which captures the main features of the nucleon–nucleon (NNNN) SS-wave interaction at low energies. We find a wide energy region where both approaches overlap. This amounts to a great simplification in the determination of the effective interaction. Actually, the outcoming scales are within the expected ones relevant for the physics of light nuclei.  相似文献
