Peculiar properties of hermitian and positive n-times integrated C-cosine functions on Banach spaces are investigated. Among them are: (1) Any nondegenerate positiven -times integrated C-cosine function is infinitely differentiable in operator norm; (2) An exponentially bounded, nondegenerateC -cosine function on L p () (1L 1(), C0 , in case C has dense range) is positive if and only if its generator is bounded, positive, and commutes with C.  相似文献

For any distributive lattice L we construct its extension ((L)) with the property that every isotone compatible function on L can be interpolated by a polynomial of ((L)). Further, we characterize all extensions with this property and show that our construction is in some sense the simplest possible. This research was supported by the GA SAV Grant 1230/95.  相似文献

In this paper we study the positive resolvent values of positive operators respectively of positive elements in Banach lattice ordered algebras. In the matrix case these values are just the inverse M-matrices. One of the main results is the following: Let A be a Banach lattice ordered algebra. A positive invertible element xA is a resolvent value of a positive element yA if and only if the element x satisfies the negative principle: If aA, < 0 and xaa then xa 0.  相似文献

Let (c n) nZ be a double-sided sequence of complex numbers; if, for quasi-all (i.e. in the Baire sense) choices of signs ( n) nZ , ( n c n) nZ is a Fourier-Stieltjes sequence, then we prove that (c n) nZ l 2 (Z); this extends a result of Littlewood and at the same time provides a very simple proof of this result.  相似文献

A functorial filtration GL n =S–1L n S0L n S i L n E n of the general linear group GL n, n 3, is defined and it is shown for any algebra A, which is a direct limit of module finite algebras, that S–1 L n (A)/S0L n (A) is abelian, that S0L n (A) S1L n (A) is a descending central series, and that S i L n (A) = E n(A) whenever i the Bass-Serre dimension of A. In particular, the K-functors k 1 S i L n =S i L n /E n are nilpotent for all i 0 over algebras of finite Bass-Serre dimension. Furthermore, without dimension assumptions, the canonical homomorphism S i L n (A)/S i+1 L n (A)S i L n+ 1(A)/S i+1 L n + 1 (A) is injective whenever n i + 3, so that one has stability results without stability conditions, and if A is commutative then S0L n (A) agrees with the special linear group SL n (A), so that the functor S0L n generalizes the functor SL n to noncommutative rings. Applying the above to subgroups H of GL n (A), which are normalized by E n(A), one obtains that each is contained in a sandwich GL n (A, ) H E n(A, ) for a unique two-sided ideal of A and there is a descending S0L n (A)-central series GL n (A, ) S0L n (A, ) S1L n (A, ) S i L n (A, ) E n(A, ) such that S i L n (A, )=E n(A, ) whenever i Bass-Serre dimension of A.Dedicated to Alexander Grothendieck on his sixtieth birthday  相似文献

We prove L r estimates for the Dirichlet problem –div(a(x,u,Du))=f with f in L q for 1q+, where the operator satisfies (|s|)|| p a(x,s,), with p>1. These estimates are obtained without symmetrization and are sharp in some cases.  相似文献

Letk and be positive integers, andG a 2-connected graph of ordern with minimum degree and independence number. A cycleC ofG is called aD -cycle if every component ofG – V(C) has order smaller than. The graphG isk-cyclable if anyk vertices ofG lie on a common cycle. A previous result of the author is that if k 2, G isk-connected and every connected subgraphH ofG of order has at leastn +k 2 + 1/k + 1 – vertices outsideH adjacent to at least one vertex ofH, thenG contains aD -cycle. Here it is conjectured that k-connected can be replaced by k-cyclable, and this is proved fork = 3. As a consequence it is shown that ifn 4 – 6, or ifG is triangle-free andn 8 – 10, thenG contains aD 3-cycle orG , where denotes a well-known class of nonhamiltonian graphs of connectivity 2. As an analogue of a result of Nash-Williams it follows that ifn 4 – 6 and – 1, thenG is hamiltonian orG . The results are all best possible and compare favorably with recent results on hamiltonicity of graphs which are close to claw-free.  相似文献

We associate to any length function L on a group a space of rapidly decreasing functions on (in the l 2 sense), denoted by H L (). When H L () is contained in the reduced C*-algebra C r * () of (), then it is a dense *-subalgebra of C r * () and we prove a theorem of A. Connes which asserts that under this hypothesis H L () has the same K-theory as C r * (). We introduce another space of rapidly decreasing functions on (in the l 1 sense), denoted by H L 1, (), which is always a dense *-subalgebra of the Banach algebra l 1(), and we show that H L 1, () has the same K-theory as l 1().  相似文献

In this paper we introduce an algebraic concept of the product of Ockham algebras called the Braided product. We show that ifL i MS(i=1, 2, ,n) then the Braided product ofL i(i=1, 2, ,n) exists if and only ifL 1, ,L n have isomorphic skeletons.  相似文献

In the first part of this series, we prove that the tensor product immersionf 1 f 2k of2k isometric spherical immersions of a Riemannian manifoldM in Euclidean space is of-type with k and classify tensor product immersionsf 1 f 2k which are ofk-type. In this article we investigate the tensor product immersionsf 1 f 2k which are of (k+1)-type. Several classification theorems are obtained.  相似文献

If X is a smooth curve defined over the real numbers , we show that K n (X) is the sum of a divisible group and a finite elementary Abelian 2-group when n 2. We determine the torsion subgroup of K n (X), which is a finite sum of copies of and 2, only depending on the topological invariants of X() and X(), and show that (for n 2) these torsion subgroups are periodic of order 8.  相似文献

A collection of random variables {X(), } is said to be parametrically stochastically increasing and convex (concave) in if X() is stochastically increasing in , and if for any increasing convex (concave) function , E(X()) is increasing and convex (concave) in whenever these expectations exist. In this paper a notion of directional convexity (concavity) is introduced and its stochastic analog is studied. Using the notion of stochastic directional convexity (concavity), a sufficient condition, on the transition matrix of a discrete time Markov process {X n(), n=0,1,2,...}, which implies the stochastic monotonicity and convexity of {X n(), }, for any n, is found. Through uniformization these kinds of results extend to the continuous time case. Some illustrative applications in queueing theory, reliability theory and branching processes are given.Supported by the Air Force Office of Scientific Research, U.S.A.F., under Grant AFOSR-84-0205. This paper deals with group actions of one-dimensional formal groups defined over the ring of integers in a finite extension of the p-adic field, where the space acted upon is the maximal ideal in the ring of integers of an algebraic closure of the p-adic field. Given a formal group F as above, a formal flow is a series (t,x) satisfying the conditions (0,x)=x and (F(s,t),x)=(s,(t,x)). With this definition, any formal group will act on the disk by left translation, but this paper constructs flows with any specified divisor of fixed points, where a point of the open unit disk is a fixed point of order n if (x–) n |((t,x)–x). Furthermore, if is an analytic automorphism of the open unit disk with only finitely many periodic points, then there is a flow , an element of the maximal ideal of the ring of constants, and an integer m such that the m-fold iteration of (x) is equal to (,x). All the formal flows constructed here are actions of the additive formal group on the unit disk. Indeed, if the divisor of fixed points of a formal flow is of degree at least two, then the formal group involved must become isomorphic to the additive group when the base is extended to the residue field of the constant ring.  相似文献

We prove that, if f(x) L p [0,1], 1 < p < , f(x) 0, x [0,1], f 0, then there is a polynomial p(x) + n such that f - 1/p LP C(p)(f,n -1/2) LP where + n indicates the set of all polynomials of degree n with positive coeficients (see the definition (1) in the text).  相似文献

For a sequence of constants {a n,n1}, an array of rowwise independent and stochastically dominated random elements { V nj, j1, n1} in a real separable Rademacher type p (1p2) Banach space, and a sequence of positive integer-valued random variables {T n, n1}, a general weak law of large numbers of the form is established where {c nj, j1, n1}, n , b n are suitable sequences. Some related results are also presented. No assumption is made concerning the existence of expected values or absolute moments of the {V nj, j1, n1}. Illustrative examples include one wherein the strong law of large numbers fails.  相似文献

Let denote a bipartite distance-regular graph with diameter D 3 and valency k 3. Suppose 0, 1, ..., D is a Q-polynomial ordering of the eigenvalues of . This sequence is known to satisfy the recurrence i – 1 i + i + 1 = 0 (0 > i > D), for some real scalar . Let q denote a complex scalar such that q + q –1 = . Bannai and Ito have conjectured that q is real if the diameter D is sufficiently large. We settle this conjecture in the bipartite case by showing that q is real if the diameter D 4. Moreover, if D = 3, then q is not real if and only if 1 is the second largest eigenvalue and the pair (, k) is one of the following: (1, 3), (1, 4), (1, 5), (1, 6), (2, 4), or (2, 5). We observe that each of these pairs has a unique realization by a known bipartite distance-regular graph of diameter 3.  相似文献

The class of realn × n matricesM, known asK-matrices, for which the linear complementarity problemw – Mz = q, w 0, z 0, w T z =0 has a solution wheneverw – Mz =q, w 0, z 0 has a solution is characterized for dimensionsn <4. The characterization is finite and practical. Several necessary conditions, sufficient conditions, and counterexamples pertaining toK-matrices are also given. A finite characterization of completelyK-matrices (K-matrices all of whose principal submatrices are alsoK-matrices) is proved for dimensions <4.Partially supported by NSF Grant MCS-8207217.Research partially supported by NSF Grant No. ECS-8401081.  相似文献

It is proved that for every regular variety V of algebras, an interpretability type [V] in the lattice is primary w.r.t. intersection, and so has at most one covering. Moreover, the sole covering, if any, for [V] is necessarily infinite. For a locally finite regular variety V, [V] has no covering. Cyclic varieties of algebras turn out to be particularly interesting among the regular. Each of these is a variety of n-groupoids (A; f) defined by an identity , where is an n-cycle of degree n 2. Interpretability types of the cyclic varieties form, in , a subsemilattice isomorphic to a semilattice of square-free natural numbers n 2, under taking m n=[m,n] (l.c.m.).  相似文献
