When ?j ? 1 < α < ?j, where j is a positive integer, the Laguerre polynomials {Ln(α)}n = 0 form a complete orthogonal set in a nondegenerate inner product space H which is defined by employing an appropriate regularized linear functional on H(j)[[0, ∞); xα + je?x]. Expansions in terms of these Laguerre polynomials are exhibited. The Laguerre differential operator is shown to be self-adjoint with real, discrete, integer eigenvalues. Its spectral resolution and resolvent are exhibited and discussed.  相似文献

The odd-order differential equation (−1)nx(2n+1)=f(t,x,…,x(2n)) together with the Lidstone boundary conditions x(2j)(0)=x(2j)(T)=0, 0?j?n−1, and the next condition x(2n)(0)=0 is discussed. Here f satisfying the local Carathéodory conditions can have singularities at the value zero of all its phase variables. Existence result for the above problem is proved by the general existence principle for singular boundary value problems.  相似文献

Let xi ≥ 0, yi ≥ 0 for i = 1,…, n; and let aj(x) be the elementary symmetric function of n variables given by aj(x) = ∑1 ≤ ii < … <ijnxiixij. Define the partical ordering x <y if aj(x) ≤ aj(y), j = 1,… n. We show that x $?y ? xα$?yα, 0 $?α ≤ 1, where {xα}i = xαi. We also give a necessary and sufficient condition on a function f(t) such that x <y ? f(x) <f(y). Both results depend crucially on the following: If x <y there exists a piecewise differentiable path z(t), with zi(t) ≥ 0, such that z(0) = x, z(1) = y, and z(s) <z(t) if 0 ≤ st ≤ 1.  相似文献

The essential self-adjointness of the strongly elliptic operator L = ∑j,k=1n (?j ? ibj(x)) ajk(x)(?k ? ibk(x)) + q(x) acting on C0(Rn) is considered, where the matrix (ajk) is real and symmetric, bj and q are real, ajk and bj are sufficiently smooth, and q?Lloc2. It has been shown by Ural'ceva and also Laptev that if q is bounded below and n ? 3 the minimal operator may not be self-adjoint if the principal coefficients rise too rapidly. Thus a theorem of Weyl for ordinary differential operators does not extend to partial differential operators. In this paper it is shown that if q is bounded below and if the principal coefficients are “well behaved” within a sequence of closed shells which go to infinity, then the minimal operator is self-adjoint. It is also shown that a number of results which were known to be true when q is sufficiently smooth may be extended to include the case where q?Lloc2. The principal tools used are a distribution inequality due to Tosio Kato and a general maximum principle due to Walter Littman.  相似文献

Let Xj = (X1j ,…, Xpj), j = 1,…, n be n independent random vectors. For x = (x1 ,…, xp) in Rp and for α in [0, 1], let Fj1(x) = αI(X1j < x1 ,…, Xpj < xp) + (1 ? α) I(X1jx1 ,…, Xpjxp), where I(A) is the indicator random variable of the event A. Let Fj(x) = E(Fj1(x)) and Dn = supx, α max1 ≤ Nn0n(Fj1(x) ? Fj(x))|. It is shown that P[DnL] < 4pL exp{?2(L2n?1 ? 1)} for each positive integer n and for all L2n; and, as n → ∞, Dn = 0((nlogn)12) with probability one.  相似文献

Let ?1<α≤0 and let $$L_n^{(\alpha )} (x) = \frac{1}{{n!}}x^{ - \alpha } e^x \frac{{d^n }}{{dx^n }}(x^{\alpha + n} e^{ - x} )$$ be the generalizednth Laguerre polynomial,n=1,2,… Letx 1,x 2,…,x n andx*1,x*2,…,x* n?1 denote the roots ofL n (α) (x) andL n (α)′ (x) respectively and putx*0=0. Let f(x, y) be an indefinite binary quadratic form, d(f) its discriminant, m(f) the infimum of |f(x, y)| over all integers x, y not both zero, and put μ(f) = m(f)d(f)?12. In this paper we prove the existence of countably many disjoint open intervals Ij contained in 0 ≤ x ≤ 13 such that there is no f with μ(f) in Ij (j = 1, 2,…) and such that for any interval I containing two intervals Ij, Ik there is an f with μ(f) in I.  相似文献

Let Mn(F) denote the algebra of n×n matrices over the field F of complex, or real, numbers. Given a self-adjoint involution JMn(C), that is, J=J*,J2=I, let us consider Cn endowed with the indefinite inner product [,] induced by J and defined by [x,y]?Jx,y〉,x,yCn. Assuming that (r,n-r), 0?r?n, is the inertia of J, without loss of generality we may assume J=diag(j1,?,jn)=Ir-In-r. For T=(|tik|2)∈Mn(R), the matrices of the form T=(|tik|2jijk), with all line sums equal to 1, are called J-doubly stochastic matrices. In the particular case r∈{0,n}, these matrices reduce to doubly stochastic matrices, that is, non-negative real matrices with all line sums equal to 1. A generalization of Birkhoff’s theorem on doubly stochastic matrices is obtained for J-doubly stochastic matrices and an application to determinants is presented.  相似文献

This paper deals with the behavior of the nonnegative solutions of the problem $$- \Delta u = V(x)u, \left. u \right|\partial \Omega = \varphi (x)$$ in a conical domain Ω ? ? n , n ≥ 3, where 0 ≤ V (x) ∈ L1(Ω), 0 ≤ ?(x) ∈ L1(?Ω) and ?(x) is continuous on the boundary ?Ω. It is proved that there exists a constant C *(n) = (n ? 2)2/4 such that if V 0(x) = (c + λ 1)|x|?2, then, for 0 ≤ cC *(n) and V(x) ≤ V 0(x) in the domain Ω, this problem has a nonnegative solution for any nonnegative boundary function ?(x) ∈ L 1(?Ω); for c > C *(n) and V(x) ≥ V 0(x) in Ω, this problem has no nonnegative solutions if ?(x) > 0.  相似文献

Let L be a first order system where D0=∂/∂x0, Dj=∂/∂xj, y is a real vector parameter, I is the idendity 3×3 matrix and aj(y) is a 3×3 matrix-valued complex smooth function.Let L(y,ξ) be the symbol of L(y,D). We assume: ∀y, the real reduced dimension of L in y is 5 and L(y,ξ) is symmetrizable: ∃T(y) such that: T−1(y)L(y,ξ)T(y) is hermitian ∀ξ. We assume the nonexistence of some double characteristics depending on the reduced form of the system. Then: L(y,ξ) is smoothly symmetrizable ? ∃T(y) smooth (same smoothness as the coefficients) such that: T−1(y)L(y,ξ)T(y) is hermitian ∀ξ.  相似文献

We consider weak solutions to the nonlinear boundary value problem (r, (x, u(x)) u′(x))′ = (Fu)′(x) with r(0, u(0)) u′(0) = ku(0), r(L, u(L)) u′(L) = hu(L) and k, h are suitable elements of [0, ∞]. In addition to studying some new boundary conditions, we also relax the constraints on r(x, u) and (Fu)(x). r(x, u) > 0 may have a countable set of jump discontinuities in u and r(x, u)?1?Lq((0, L) × (0, p)). F is an operator from a suitable set of functions to a subset of Lp(0, L) which have nonnegative values. F includes, among others, examples of the form (Fu)(x) = (1 ? H(x ? x0)) u(x0), (Fu)(x) = ∫xLf(y, u(y)) dy where f(y, u) may have a countable set of jump discontinuities in u or F may be chosen so that (Fu)′(x) = ? g(x, u(x)) u′(x) ? q(x) u(x) ? f(x, u(x)) where q is a distributional derivative of an L2(0, L) function.  相似文献

Garsia-Haiman modules C[Xn,Yn]/Iγ are quotient rings in the variables Xn={x1,x2,…,xn} and Yn={y1,y2,…,yn} that generalize the quotient ring C[Xn]/I, where I is the ideal generated by the elementary symmetric polynomials ej(Xn) for 1?j?n. A bitableau basis for the Garsia-Haiman modules of hollow type is constructed. Applications of this basis to representation theory and other related polynomial spaces are considered.  相似文献

For certain generalized Bernstein operators {L n } we show that there exist no i, j ∈ {1, 2, 3,…}, i < j, such that the functions e i (x) = x i and e j (x) = x j are preserved by L n for each n = 1, 2,… But there exist infinitely many e i such that e 0(x) = 1 and e j (x) = x j are its fixed points.  相似文献

We consider the Sturm-Liouville operator L(y) = ?d 2 y/dx 2 + q(x)y in the space L 2[0, π], where the potential q(x) is a complex-valued distribution of the first order of singularity; i.e., q(x) = u′(x), uL 2[0, π]. (Here the derivative is understood in the sense of distributions.) We obtain asymptotic formulas for the eigenvalues and eigenfunctions of the operator in the case of the Neumann-Dirichlet conditions [y [1](0) = 0, y(π) = 0] and Neumann conditions [y [1](0) = 0, y [1](π) = 0] and refine similar formulas for all types of boundary conditions. The leading and second terms of asymptotics are found in closed form.  相似文献

In this paper we investigate the problem of the equiconvergence on T N = [-π, π) N of the expansions in multiple trigonometric series and Fourier integral of functions fL p (T N ) and gL p (? N ), where p > 1, N ≥ 3, g(x) = f(x) on T N , in the case when the “rectangular partial sums” of the indicated expansions, i.e.,– n (x; f) and J α(x; g), respectively, have indices n ∈ ? N and α ∈ ? N (n j = [α j ], j = 1,...,N, [t] is the integer part of t ∈ ?1), in those certain components are the elements of “lacunary sequences”.  相似文献

The authors consider irreducible representations π ? N? of a nilpotent Lie group and define a Fourier transform for Schwartz class (and other) functions φ on N by forming the kernels Kφ(x, y) of the trace class operations πφ = ∝Nφ(n)πndn, regarding the π as modeled in L2(Rk) for all π in general position. For a special class of groups they show that the models, and parameters λ labeling the representations in general position, can be chosen so the joint behavior of the kernels Kφ(x, y, λ) can be interpreted in a useful way. The variables (x, y, λ) run through a Zariski open set in Rn, n = dim N. The authors show there is a polynomial map u = A(x, y, λ) that is a birational isomorphism A: Rn → Rn with the following properties. The Fourier transforms F1φ = Kφ(x, y, λ) all factor through A to give “rationalized” Fourier transforms (u) such that ° A = F1φ. On the rationalized parameter space a function f(u) is of the form Fφ = f ? f is Schwartz class on Rn. If polynomial operators T?P(N) are transferred to operators T? on Rn such that F(Tφ) = T?(Fφ), P(N) is transformed isomorphically to P(Rn).  相似文献

In [2], Crandall and Evans show existence of mild solution to an abstract Cauchy Problem: u′(t)+Au(t)∋f(t), 0≤t≤T, u(0)=x0, where A is an accretive operator in a general Banach space X and f ε L1(0,T;X). Their method involves proving convergence in the L-norm of a sequence of step function approximations αn(σ, τ) to the solution of a first order partial differential equation. We consider a more general Cauchy Problem and show a.e. existence of mild solution by proving convergence of the step functions αn(σ, τ) in the L1-norm. Fundamental to the proof is a nonhomogeneous random walk in the plane.  相似文献

We consider boundary value problems for the equation ? x (K ? x ?) + KL[?] = 0 in the space R n with generalized transmission conditions of the type of a strongly permeable crack or a weakly permeable screen on the surface x = 0. (Here L is an arbitrary linear differential operator with respect to the variables y 1, …, y n?1.) The coefficients K(x) > 0 are monotone functions of certain classes in the regions separated by the screen x = 0. The desired solution has arbitrary given singular points and satisfies a sufficiently weak condition at infinity. We derive formulas expressing the solutions of the above-mentioned problems in the form of simple quadratures via the solutions of the considered equation with a constant coefficient K for given singular points in the absence of a crack or a screen. In particular, the obtained formulas permit one to solve boundary value problems with generalized transmission conditions for equations with functional piecewise continuous coefficients in the framework of the theory of harmonic functions.  相似文献
