A new spectrophotometric determination method of hexavalent chromium in waste water and plating baths is described based on the oxidation of beryllon III by chromium(VI) in 0.02M sulphuric acid medium. The decrease in the absorbance of beryllon III was measured at 482 nm with an apparent molar absorptivity of 5.15 x 10(4)1.mole(-1).cm(-1). Beer's law was obeyed for chromium(VI) over the range 0-25 mug/25 ml. After the oxidation of Cr(III) to Cr(VI) by ammonium persulphate, total chromium can be determined. Therefore, chromium(III) can be calculated by subtracting chromium(VI) from total chromium. The detection limit is 0.015 and 0.020 mug/25 ml for chromium(VI) and total chromium, respectively. A sensitive spectrophotometric method for trace Cr(III) and Cr(VI) in waste water and plating baths was developed with good precision and accuracy. The reaction is also discussed.  相似文献

Dibenzyldithiocarbamic acid (DBDC) exhibits the ability to speciate between chromium(VI) and chromium(III), since only the chromium(VI) will form complexes with DBDC. The complex is then extracted into an organic solvent and assayed using an ultraviolet-visible (UV-VIS) spectrophotometer at 498.8 nm. Using 250 ml of aqueous sample detection limits less than 1 ng/ml are possible, while the linear range extends to 500 gmg/ml when working at 498.8 nm. Oxidation of the chromium(III) to chromium (VI) using cerium (IV) enables the determination of total chromium and subsequently the chromium (III) in solution. Evaluation of the method with a standard reference material produced only 4.81 part per thousand error in the determination of chromium(VI).  相似文献

A simple and sensitive method has been developed for species selective determination of chromium(III) and chromium(VI) in water by electrothermal atomic absorption spectrometry. The procedure is based on selective absorption of Cr(III) on a cellulose micro column (pH 11, 0.5 mol L(-1) NaCl). Total chromium was subsequently determined after appropriate reduction of Cr(VI) to Cr(III). Recoveries of more than 97% were found. A concentration factor of 100 was achieved. The relative standard deviations (n=10) at the 40 ng L(-1) level for chromium(III) and chromium(VI) were 2.3% and 1.8% and corresponding limits of detection (based on 36) were 1.8 ng L(-1) and 5.1 ng L(-1), respectively. No interference effects have been observed from other investigated species and the method has been successfully applied to natural water samples.  相似文献

A new method for determining ultra-trace levels of hexavalent chromium in ambient air has been developed. The method involves a 24-h sampling of air into potassium hydroxide solution, followed by silica gel column separation of chromium (VI), then preconcentration by complexation and solvent extraction. The chromium (VI) complex was dissolved in nitric acid. The resultant chromium ions were determined by inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry (ICP–MS) using a dynamic reaction cell (DRC) with ammonia as the reactive gas to reduce polyatomic interferences. The interconversion of chromium in potassium hydroxide solution and air sample matrix were investigated under ambient conditions. It was found that there was no conversion of chromium (VI) into chromium (III) species. However, it was observed that some chromium (III) species were converted into chromium (VI) species. For a KOH solution containing 100 μg l−1 of chromium (III) species, the rate of conversion was found to be 3% after 24 h exposure, 8% after 48 h, 10% after 72 h and no further conversion was observed thereafter. However, in a solution containing air sample matrix, 9.3% of chromium (III) converted to chromium (VI) within 6 h, and during the course of a 11-day exposure period, 13% (range 8–17%) of chromium (III) converted to chromium (VI). The method detection limit (MDL) for chromium (VI) in potassium hydroxide solution (0.025 M) was found to be 2×10−2 μg l−1. This is equivalent to 0.2 ng m−3 (for 23 m3 air sampled into 200 ml of KOH solution over a 24-h period). The recovery of spiked chromium (VI) from solutions containing air sample matrix was 95±9% (n=8). Matrix related interferences were estimated to be less than 10% based on recovery studies. The concentration of airborne chromium (VI) in Sydney residential areas was found to be less than 0.2 ng m−3, however, in industrial areas the concentrations ranged from 0.2 to 1.3 ng m−3 using this analytical procedure.  相似文献

A new rapid and sensitive FI method is reported for spectrophotometric determination of trace chromium(VI) in electroplating waste water. The method is based on the reaction of Cr(VI) with sodium diphenylamine sulfonate (DPH) in acidic medium to form a purple complex (lambda(max) = 550 nm). Under the optimized conditions, the calibration curve is linear in the range 0.04-3.8 microg ml(-1) at a sampling rate of 30 h(-1). The detection limit of the method is 0.0217 microg ml(-1), and the relative standard deviation is 1.1% for eight determinations of 2 microg ml(-1) Cr(VI). The proposed method was applied to the determination of chromium in electroplating waste water with satisfactory results.  相似文献

A new matrix modifier composed of calcium and chromium[VI] was proposed for the determination of tributyltin (TBT) in toluene extract from sea water containing sediment by graphite furnace atomic absorption spectrometry (GFAAS). Fourteen inorganic and organic compounds (barium, calcium, chromium[VI], lanthanum, magnesium, nickel, palladium, strontium, calcium-chromium[VI], calcium-strontium, nickel isocaprylate, 5%-, 10%-aqueous solution of ascorbic acid and toluene-saturated solution of ascorbic acid) as a matrix modifier were comparatively studied and a matrix modifier composed from 5 microg of calcium and 1 microg of chromium[VI] was found to give the best performance. The interference effects of co-existing elements in sea water containing sediment (aluminium, iron, magnesium, sodium and strontium) were studied. TBT in eight toluene extracts was determined by GFAAS with the proposed matrix modifier. The relative standard deviation was 3.0% for 63 ng ml(-1) of TBT (n = 11). The recoveries were 88-104%. The characteristic mass was 7 pg. The linearity range was 0-250 ng mg(-1).  相似文献

A simple and convenient method has been developed for the speciation of chromium(III) and chromium(VI) in aqueous solutions using a sodium dodecyl sulphate coated alumina micro-column (1.5 cm x 5 mm i.d.) and graphite furnace-atomic absorption spectrometry (GF-AAS). Under the optimized conditions (pH 0.6, adjusted with hydrochloric acid; flow rate, 1 ml min(-1)) chromium(VI) is retained on the column and chromium(III) is collected and determined by GF-AAS. Total chromium is directly determined by GF-AAS and chromium(VI) is calculated by difference. The relative standard deviations (10 replicate analyses) at the 20 mug l(-1) level for chromium(III) and chromium(VI) and at the 40 mug l(-1) level for total chromium were 1.4%, 3.6% and 1.8%, and the corresponding limits of detection (based on 3sigma) were 0.57 mug ml(-1), 0.61 mug ml(-1) and 0.35 mug l(-1) respectively. No large interference effects have been observed from other investigated species and the method has been successfully applied to a range of water samples.  相似文献

Preconcentration method with collection of metal complexes on a chitin has been applied to the spectrophotometric determination of chromium(VI) in water. The chromium(VI) is collected as its 1,5-diphenylcarbazide(DPC) complex on a column of chitin in the presence of dodecyl sulfate as counter-ion. The Cr-DPC complex retained on the chitin is eluted with a methanol-1 M acetic acid mixture (7:3, v/v), and the absorbance of the eluent is measured at 541 nm. Beer's law is obeyed over the concentration range of 0.05-0.6 mug of chromium(VI) in 1 ml of the eluent. The apparent molar absorptivity is 3.5x10(4) dm(3) mol(-1) cm(-1). The tolerance limits for Fe(III) is low, i.e. ten times that of chromium(VI), but some metal ions and common inorganic anions do not interfere in concentration range of 100-10 000 times that of chromium(VI). The present method can be applied to the determination of chromium(VI) in natural water samples.  相似文献

A sensitive and inexpensive method of spectrophotometric determination of chromium(VI), based on the absorbance of its complex with malachite green and acetic acid at pH 2.5 is reported. The complex shows a molar absorptivity of 8 x 10(4) l.mole(-1) cm(-1) at 560 nm, using malachite green and acetic acid as reference solution. The effect of time, temperature, pH and reagent concentration is studied and optimum operating conditions are established. Beer's law is applicable in the concentration range 2.0-22.8 mug/ml chromium(VI). The resin beads act as a catalyst and as little as 1.6 mug of chromium(VI) is detected in the resin phase as compared to 4.1 mug in the solution phase. The standard deviation in the determinations is +/-0.40 mug/ml for a 10.35 mug/ml solution.  相似文献

A highly sensitive spectrophotometric method has been developed for determination of chromium(VI), based on oxidation of I(-) to I(-)(3) in acid medium, then formation of a 1:1 ion-association compound of I(-)(3) with a basic xanthene dye in the presence of poly(vinyl alcohol). The molar absorptivity is 1.79 x 10(5) 1.mole(-1).cm(-1) at 600 nm for the Rhodamine B system, 1.56 x 10(5) 1.mole(-1).cm(-1) at 600 nm with Ethylrhodamine B, 1.56 x 10(5) 1.mole(-).cm(-1) at 570 nm with Rhodamine 6G and 2.01 x 10(5) 1.mole(-1).cm(-1) at 590 nm with Butylrhodamine B, respectively. Preconcentration of chromium(VI) by an improved trioctylamine extraction procedure greatly increases the selectivity of the method and can be applied in the spectrophotometric determination of trace amounts of chromium(VI) in tap water, hot-spring water and river water.  相似文献

A novel method for the speciation of chromium(III) and chromium(VI) by in situ separation and sequential determination with electrothermal vaporization-inductively coupled plasma-atomic emission spectrometry (ETV-ICP-AES) was developed. The reaction conditions between Cr(III) and 8-hydroxyquinoline (8-Ox) and the vaporization behavior of the chelate formed were investigated in detail. It was found that the Cr(III)-8-Ox chelate could be formed at room temperature and vaporized from graphite furnace under controlled experimental conditions, therefore, an in situ separation of Cr(III) from Cr(VI) was achieved. The retained Cr(VI) in graphite tube was then determined by using fluorination vaporization ETV-ICP-AES with PTFE slurry as chemical modifier. Under optimum experimental conditions, the detection limits for Cr(III) and Cr(VI) are 8.6 ng/ml and 11.3 ng/ml, and the relative standard deviations (R.S.D.s) are 3.8% and 4.1% (c=0.1 μg/ml, n=6), respectively. The linear ranges of the calibration curve for both Cr(III) and Cr(VI) covered three orders of magnitude. The proposed method has been applied to the speciation of Cr(III) and Cr(VI) in water samples with the satisfactory results.  相似文献

A flow injection method is proposed for the determination of nanogram amounts of chromium(III) using a pyrogallol chemiluminescence system. It is based on its catalytic effect on the oxidation of pyrogallol with periodate at a neutral medium. The addition of 3-(N-morpholino)propanesulphonic acid to the reaction system increased the chemiluminescence signal for chromium(III). The present method allows the determination of 5-100ng/ml of chromium(III). The relative standard deviation of 2.2% (n = 10) was obtained at 20 ng/ml of chromium(III) and the detection limit (signal-to-noise ratio = 2) was 1 ng/ml with the sampling frequency of 25/hr.  相似文献

A new fluorogenic method for the selective and sensitive determination of chromium(VI) in acidic water using rhodamine B hydrazide was developed. This method was based on the oxidation of non-fluorescent rhodamine B hydrazide by potassium dichromate in acidic aqueous conditions to give rhodamine B, which was highly fluorescent, as a product. With the optimum condition described, the fluorescence enhancement at 585 nm was linearly related to the concentration of chromium(VI) in the range of 5.0 × 10−8 to 2.0 × 10−6 mol L−1 (2.60-104 ng mL−1) with a correlation coefficient of R2 = 0.9993 (n = 18) and a detection limit of 5.5 × 10−9 mol L−1 (0.29 ng mL−1). The R.S.D. was 2.2% (n = 5). The proposed method was also applied to the determination of chromium(VI) in drinking water, river water and synthetic samples.  相似文献

Dissoluble manganese supramolecule containing rhodamine 6G luminescent particles (M2) are synthesized, based on dissoluble manganese supramolecule (M1) doping rhodamine 6G (R.6G), by crystalline method. The particle diameters of M1 and M2 determined by ETM are both of micron degree. M1 and M2 can emit solid substrate room temperature phosphorescence (SS-RTP) on filter paper. The transition probability from the singlet state (S1) to triplet state (T1) of the luminescent molecules was greatly enhanced, based on the increment of luminescent molecules for each spot and the heavy atom effect of certain amount of Pb2+. As a result, the phosphorescence intensity (Ip) of M2 was increased sharply, and the enhancing value of phosphorescence intensity (DeltaIp) is directly proportional to the concentration of Pb2+. Thus, a new method of SS-RTP enhancing for the determination of trace lead is established based on manganese supramolecule containing rhodamine 6G luminescent particles. The linear range of this method is 0.0040-0.400 pg spot-1 of Pb2+ (corresponding concentration, 0.01-1.0 ng mL-1; sample volume, 0.4 microL spot-1), with a detection limit (LD) of 0.0011 pg spot-1 (corresponding concentration, 2.8x10(-12) g mL-1 of Pb2+, n=11). For the working solutions containing 0.0040 and 0.40 ng mL-1 of Pb2+, they were determined repeatedly for seven times, respectively. The R.S.D.s were 3.2 and 3.8%, respectively. This method has good repeatability, sensitivity and high precision. It has been applied to the determination of trace lead in human hair and tea samples with satisfactory results.  相似文献

The associate formed by triiodide ion and hexadecylpyridinium chloride (cetylpyridinium chloride (CPC)) micelles was used to enhance the kinetic spectrophotometric determination of W(VI) by its catalytic action on the oxidation of iodide with hydrogen peroxide in an acidic medium. The reaction was monitored spectrophotometrically by measuring the increase in absorbance of I(3)(-)-CPC associate at 525 nm by the fixed-time method of 3 min from initiation of the reaction. The micellar medium allowed the determination of W(VI) at concentrations between 4 and 90 ng ml(-1) with a detection limit of 2.4 ng ml(-1) (i.e. about 12-13 times lower than those of methods implemented in aqueous media). The relative standard deviation for nine replicate analyses was 0.03% for 76.6 ng ml(-1) of W(VI). The proposed method was applied to the determination of W(VI) in aqueous extracts of soil sample with no prior separation.  相似文献

A rapid and simple method has been developed for the separation of chromium (III) and Cr(VI) species in river and reservoir water. Chromium (III) can be chelated with 8-hydroxyquinoline immobilized polyacrylonitrile (PAN) fiber, whereas Cr(VI) cannot. Chelated Cr(III) can be eluted with 2 mol l(-1) HCl-0.1 mol l(-1) HNO(3). Cr(VI) in the filtrate and Cr(III) in the eluant were determined by inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry. The effect of pH, sample flow rate, eluant type and its volume on the concentration effectiveness of Cr(III) was investigated. The recommended method has been applied for the separation and determination of Cr(III) and Cr(VI) in river and reservoir water. The results indicated that the recovery of each individual Cr species ranged from 96 to 107% and the R.S.D. were found to be <10% at the level of ng ml(-1). The effect of HNO(3) added in the sampling procedure was also evaluated.  相似文献

A method is described for the determination of particulate chromium and dissolved chromium(III) and (VI) in water at μg l-1 levels. Particulate material is collected by filtration of the water sample through a membrane filter (0.4-μm pore-size). Chromium(III) and chromium(VI) are then coprecipitated, separately and in that order, with iron(III) hydroxide (at pH 8.5) and a cobalt—pyrrolidinedithiocarbamate carrier complex (at pH 4.0). Both precipitates are collected as thin films on membrane filters and, with the particulate material, analysed directly for chromium by x-ray fluorescence spectrometry. Detection limits, for a 100-ml water sample and counting times of 100 s, are 0.1 μg Cr l-1. The method is unaffected by sea salt and is applicable, without modifications, to river and estuarine waters.  相似文献

A new solid phase extraction (SPE) method has been developed for the speciation of Cr(III) and Cr(VI). This method is based on the adsorption of Cr(VI) on modified alumina‐coated magnetite nanoparticles (ACMNPs). Total chromium in different samples was determined as Cr(VI) after oxidation of Cr(III) to Cr(VI) using H2O2. The chromium concentration has been determined by flame atomic absorption spectrometric (FAAS) technique and amount of Cr(III) was calculated by substracting the concentration of Cr(VI) from total chromium concentration. The effect of parameters such as pH, amount of adsorbent, contact time, sample volume, eluent type, H2O2 concentration and cetyltrimethylammonium bromide (CTAB) concentration as modifier on the quantitative recovery of Cr(VI) were investigated. Under the optimal experimental conditions, the preconcentration factor, detection limit, linear range and relative standard deviation (RSD) of Cr(VI) were 140 (for 350 mL of sample solution), 0.083 ng mL?1, 0.1‐10.0 ng mL?1 and 4.6% (for 5.0 ng mL?1, n = 7), respectively. This method avoided the time‐consuming column‐passing process of loading large volume samples in traditional SPE through the rapid isolation of CTAB@ACMNPs with an adscititious magnet. The proposed method was successfully applied to the determination and speciation of chromium in different water and wastewater samples and suitable recoveries were obtained.  相似文献
