The present work examines the influence of magnetohydrodynamic field on natural convection phenomena inside a porous square enclosure with a pair of embedded hot circular cylinders. Numerical investigations are performed to understand the effects of interspacing distance between the embedded cylinders, Hartmann number, Rayleigh number and Darcy number on the thermal transport process and the total irreversibility generation. It is observed that the isotherm distribution is strongly affected by the presence of magnetic field although the distribution of streamlines remains independent of the strength of magnetic field. This underlines the fact that magnetic field strongly influences the heat transfer process and entropy generation characteristics. It reveals that the natural convection is suppressed in the presence of a higher magnetic field as evident from the reduction in Nusselt number. It is observed that an increase in the spacing between the cylinders increases the heat transfer rate, and moreover, the effect of the magnetic field on heat transfer is more pronounced at higher interspacing distance between the embedded cylinders. The heat transfer rate increases significantly with the increase in the permeability of the medium. The entropy generation rate is independent of the strength of applied magnetic field. Further, the contribution of the entropy generation owing to friction is found to be negligible in total irreversibility obtained at lower values of Rayleigh number irrespective of Darcy number. However, the contribution of irreversibility owing to heat transfer is found to be minimal at higher values of Rayleigh number.

The effects of a solvent on the two-photon absorption of microsolvated formaldehyde and liquid water have been studied using hybrid coupled-cluster/molecular mechanics (CC/MM) response theory. Both water and formaldehyde were considered solvated in water, where the solvent water molecules were described within the framework of molecular mechanics. Prior to the CC/MM calculations, molecular dynamics simulations were performed on the water/formaldehyde and water/water aggregates and many configurations were generated. By carrying out CC/MM response calculations on the individual configurations, it was possible to obtain statistically averaged results for both the excitation energies and two-photon absorption cross sections. For liquid water, the comparison between one- and two-photon absorption spectra is in good agreement with the experimental data available in the literature. In particular, the lowest energy transition occurring in the one-photon absorption spectrum of water only occurs with a relatively small strength in the two-photon absorption spectrum. This result is important for the interpretation of two-photon absorption data as these results show that in the absence of selection rules that determine which transitions are forbidden, the spectral profile of the two-photon absorption spectrum can be significantly different from the spectral profile of the one-photon absorption spectrum.  相似文献

We have studied the basis set and electron correlation effects on the ab initio calculations of two-photon absorption cross sections of water. Various series of correlation consistent basis sets up to triply augmented basis sets of valence pentuple zeta level as well as the popular 6-31G(d) basis set have been employed in combination with several coupled cluster, configuration interaction, and density functional theory methods. We find that it is very difficult to obtain converged values of the cross sections for even a small molecule such as water. Acknowledging these difficulties in obtaining a fully converged cross section for a given state, we also investigated the possibility of determining relative cross sections for a series of organic molecules. However, we did not find consistency between the relative cross sections calculated at the Hartree-Fock level and several coupled-cluster methods using the 6-31G(d) and aug-cc-pVDZ basis sets. However, we could reproduce the relative ordering of the two-photon absorption cross sections of the molecules studied at the Hartree-Fock level.  相似文献

A time-of-flight (TOF) electron spectrometer has been used to measure absolute total cross sections (TCS) scattered from helium and argon over the energy range from 1 to 50 eV. The TOF spectrometer and experimental procedure are described briefly, and experimental results are presented together with associated errors. Semi-relativistic approach is employed to compute the differential and integrated cross sections, spin polarizationP and the spin polarization parametersT andU for the scattering of electrons from barium and strontium atoms in the energy range from 2.0–300 eV. The projectile-target interaction is represented both by real and complex optical potential in the solution of Dirac equation for the scattered electrons. The real optical potential includes the static, a parameter free correlation polarization and a modified semi classical exchange potentials. Single crystalline tellurium (Te) nanotubes with triangular cross sections were successfully synthesized for the first time by a simple approach of vaporizing tellurium metal and condensing the vapor in an inert atmosphere onto a suitable substrate. Tellurium gas was evaporated by heating at 350 degrees C and was condensed on the Si (100) substrate at 150-200 degrees C, in the downstream of argon (Ar) gas at a flow rate of 25 sccm for 10 min. This led to the production of nanotubes of triangular cross section along with some hexagonal ones. The formation of the nanotubes was highly dependent upon the structure of the substrate surface, Ar gas flow rate, and the deposition temperature. When the substrate is Si (111) or sapphire (0001) or when the argon flow rate is increased to 500 sccm, nanowires and nanorods were exclusively formed. Irrespective of the morphologies, all the observed Te nanostructures grew in a regular [0001] direction. The facile approach to nanotubes with a triangular cross section may facilitate some new applications as well as stimulate theoretical studies pertaining to the stability of this high-energy configuration.  相似文献

The mass transfer in the electrolyte solution with three types of ions in the electrochemical cell of square section with vertical electrodes is studied. The mathematical model of the process involves the Navier-Stokes equations in the Boussinesq approximation, the equations of ionic transfer of electrolyte components, which is caused by diffusion, convection, and migration, and the condition of electroneutrality. It is shown that this problem corresponds to a special case of thermosolutal convection with regard for thermodiffusion (the Soret effect), where the cell boundaries are permeable to an impurity and the flux of impurity through the boundary is proportional to the heat flux. Using the numerical simulation, the distributions of concentration of ions, solution density, local and average mass-transfer rates are studied. The approximate analytical equations for the limiting current are obtained for typical electrochemical systems.  相似文献

Summary Excitation functions of proton induced nuclear reactions on natural Te were investigated up to 18 MeV. Cross sections for production of 121,123,124,126,128,130gI and 121gTe were measured. The new experimental data were compared with the results of ALICE-IPPE model calculations and with data found in the literature and measured on natural or enriched Te targets.
