Tea has been one of the most popular simulating beverages which is both heavily produced and consumed in Taiwan. The determination of minor or trace elements in drinking tea and tea leaves is therefore important for estimating the daily intake of Taiwanese considered as a safety indicator. In order to accurately and precisely determine the concentrations of trace elements in samples, several analytical methods such as AAS, NAA and ICP-AES are suggested. This paper attempts to utilize all three methods to determine the concentrations of minor or trace elements in different types of tea leaves and the extracts percolated from them. The influence of fermentation processes on the concentration levels of minor or trace elements in tea samples is investigated. Because only free metal ions are bioavailable for the human body, it is necessary to determine their concentrations in drinking tea. The dissolution of trace elements in drinking tea is therefore studied by simulating the common Chinese style of tea percolation. Concentrations of thirteen elements including Zn, Mn, Ca, Cu, Ni, Al, K, Mg, Cd, Pb, Na, Co and Sc are determined.  相似文献

The need for the preconcentration of trace and ultratrace amounts of uranium(VI) and thorium(IV) in conjunction with various detection techniques was clearly brought out in the introductory part. Subsequently, various off-line and on-line procedures developed for uranium(VI) and thorium(IV) prior to their analytical determination since 1990 were critically reviewed in terms of enrichment factor, retention/sorption capacity, validation using certified reference materials and application to complex real samples. The relative merits and demerits of various preconcentration and/or separation of uranium(VI) and thorium(IV) prior to quantitation by a plethora of analytical techniques are discussed in concluding part of the review article.  相似文献

Polycyclic aromatic sulphur heterocyclic (PASH) compounds, such as dibenzothiophene (DBT) and alkylated derivatives are used as model compounds in biodesulfurization processes. The development of these processes is focused on the reduction of the concentration of sulphur in gasoline and gas–oil [D.J. Monticello, Curr. Opin. Biotechnol. 11 (2000) 540], in order to meet European Union and United States directives.

The evaluation of biodesulfurization processes requires the development of adequate analytical techniques, allowing the identification of any transformation products generated. The identification of intermediates and final products permits the evaluation of the degradation process.

In this work, seven sulfurated compounds and one non-sulfurated compound have been selected to develop an extraction method and to compare the sensitivity and identification capabilities of three different gas chromatography ionization modes. The selected compounds are: dibenzothiophene (DBT), 4-methyl-dibenzothiophene (4-m-DBT), 4,6-dimethyl-dibenzothiophene (4,6-dm-DBT) and 4,6 diethyl-dibenzothiophene (4,6 de-DBT), all of which can be used as model compounds in biodesulfurization processes; as well as dibenzothiophene sulfoxide (DBTO2), dibenzothiophene sulfone (DBTO) and 2-(2-hydroxybiphenyl)-benzenesulfinate (HBPS), which are intermediate products in biodesulfurization processes of DBT [ A. Alcon, V.E. Santos, A.B. Martín, P. Yustos, F. García-Ochoa, Biochem. Eng. J. 26 (2005) 168]. Furthermore, a non-sulfurated compound, 2-hydroxybiphenyl (2-HBP), has also been selected as it is the final product in the biodesulfurization process of DBT [A. Alcon, V.E. Santos, A.B. Martín, P. Yustos, F. García-Ochoa. Biochem. Eng. J. 26 (2005) 168].

Since, typically, biodesulfurization reactions take place in a biphasic medium, two extraction methods have been developed: a liquid–liquid extraction method for the watery phase and a solid phase extraction method for the organic phase. Recoveries of the selected compound in both media were studied. They were in the range of 80–100% for the watery and in the range of 40–60% for the organic phase, respectively.

Gas chromatography coupled to mass spectrometry (GC–MS) has been employed for the identification of these selected compounds. Three different ionization modes were applied: conventional electron impact (EI); positive chemical ionization (PCI), using methane as the reagent gas; and a recently developed ionization mode known as hybrid chemical ionization (HCI), using perfluorotri-n-butylamine as the reagent gas. Limits of detection and identification capabilities have been compared between the three analytical techniques.

The sensitivity of the three analytical techniques was studied and LOD between 0.05 and 1, between 0.09 and 2 and between 0.001 and 0.043 were achieved for PCI, EI and HCI, respectively.

The developed method was applied in samples from a biodesulfurization process. The biodesulfurization reactions were conducted in resting cell operation mode, using Erlenmeyer flasks or an agitated tank bioreactor. The microorganism employed was Pseudomonas putida CECT 5279. The reaction was performed under controlled air flow, stirring and temperature conditions.  相似文献

Sorption and complexing properties of a modified adsorbent based on a maleic anhydride-styrene copolymer towards uranium(VI) are studied and the main quantitative characteristics of the metal ion sorption are determined. An adsorbent containing m-aminophenol fragments is proposed for the selective sorption of uranium(VI) from solutions. The optimal sorption conditions have been found. The recovery of uranium(VI) under the optimal conditions exceeds 95%. A procedure of the sorption photometric determination of uranium(VI) in sea water is developed.  相似文献

The synergistic extractions of uranium(VI) nitrate using HDEHP,* PMBP** and TBP*** have been studied from benzene media. A new method is proposed to calculate the equilibrium constants for such kinds of ternary synergistic extraction systems. The extraction reactions and their equilibrium constants were found. Models for the extraction mechanism are also discussed.  相似文献

A method is described for the determination of uranium by fluorimetry and spectrophotometry in samples of natural non-saline waters. After acidification with hydrochloric acid, the water sample is filtered and, following the addition of ascorbic acid and potassium thiocyanate, passed through a column of the strongly basic anion-exchange resin Dowex 1-X8 (thiocyanate form). On this exchanger uranium is adsorbed as an anionic thiocyanate complex. After removal of iron and other coadsorbed elements by washing first with a mixture consisting of 50 vol.% tetrahydrofuran, 40 vol.% methyl glycol and 10 vol.% 6 M hydrochloric acid, and then with pure aqueous 6 M hydrochloric acid, the uranium is eluted with 1 M hydrochloric acid. In the eluate, uranium is determined fluorimetrically or by means of the spectrophotometric arsenazo III method. The procedure was used for the routine determination of uranium in water samples collected in Austria.  相似文献

The design and characterization of an argon segmented-solid phase extraction system is described. A 200 ul volume micro-column has been constructed for the preconcentration of rare earth elements (REEs) from salt matrices containing uranium. An inductively coupled plasma atomic emission spectrometer has been utilized for simultaneous detection of Sr, Y and the REEs (namely Ce, Eu, La, Nd, Pr, Sm) at levels ranging from 5- to 2000 ppm in LiC1/KCl samples containing U. Preconcentration factors of 100 fold have been demonstrated. The precision, linear dynamic range and column performance of the system will be presented.  相似文献

In the paper are presented results of potassium, uranium, thorium and radium measurements performed on the natural marine sediment sample SD-N-1/2 in the framework of the IAEA-organized worldwide intercomparison exercise. Analytical methods applied in this exercise were evaluated for performance and significance of the observed discrepancies are discussed in the light of statistical and operative criteria. Possible sources of error have been identified in alpha and gamma spectrometric measurements and suggestions are given about how to avoid them. Well characterized reference materials based on natural matrices have been shown helpful in achieving better data comparability in low level measurements of environmental radioactivity.  相似文献

Nuclear analytical techniques namely fission track technique using solid state nuclear track detector (SSNTD) and instrumental neutron activation analysis (INAA) have been standardized and applied for quantification of low uranium concentrations in liquid samples such as feed, elute and brine and solid sorbent samples respectively. The quantification of uranium is required for its recovery study from seawater, which is one of the potential sources of uranium. The uranium concentration of a liquid sample obtained by SSNTD method was compared with the other well established conventional techniques like ICP-MS, ICP-AES, adsorptive stripping voltametry and alpha spectrometry. INAA was applied for uranium concentration determination in the radiation grafted polyamidoxime sorbent samples.  相似文献

The composition of essential oils of the leaves and stems of the Aegopodium podagraria growing wild in Estonia was determined using gas chromatography-flame ionization detector (GC-FID) and gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS). A total of 69 compounds representing over 95% of the total oil were identified. The oil from the stems of A. podagraria was rich in monoterpenes (92.0%). In the leaves oil mainly monoterpenes (43.8%) and sesquiterpenes (29.8%) were identified. The total and extractable content of six mineral elements and two trace elements of the leaves and stems of A. podagraria were determined by atomic absorption spectroscopy (AAS). Capillary electrophoresis (CE) was employed in the fingerprint analysis of A. podagraria extracts.  相似文献

As is well known ammunitions containing depleted uranium (DU) were used by NATO during the Balkan war. The paper deals with the determination of uranium alpha emitting radiosotopes in Kosovo soils by chemical separation and alpha spectrometry. The samples were collected by CISAM (Centro Interforze Studi ed Applicazioni Militari, S. Piero a Grado, Livorno) in the period November 1999-April 2000. The DU distribution in soil appeared very disomogeneous; the isotope weight percentages for U-238, U-235 and U-234 resulted 99.76, 0.24 and 7.24.10(-4) respectively; consequently the activity distribution was 86.42%, 1.31%, 11.63% and the isotope ratios were 1.52.10(-2) and 0.134 for U-235/U-238 and U-234/U-238 showing clearly the presence of DU. A small peak at 4.49 MeV (U-236) in the alpha spectrum indicated that the used DU was the by-product of exhausted uranium reprocessing. In order to determine the chemical and physiological solubility of uranium a fractionation study was carried out by using the Tessier method: 55% of uranium showed a fair solubility, but 45% was solubilized only by 8 M HNO3.  相似文献

The analytical properties of two compounds from a class of new complexing reagents for uranium have been investigated. The compounds, diacetylpyridine bis(furoylhydrazone) (H(2)dapf) and diacetylpyridine bis(pyridylhydrazone) (H(2)dapp), were synthesized and the extraction, resin sorption, and colorimetric properties of their metal complexes examined. The uranium-H(2)dapf complex forms in solutions at pH 3 and can be used to determine uranium colorimetrically. The system obeys the Lambert-Beer law between 0.72 and 10.8 ppm uranium with a molar absorptivity of 1.5 x 10(4) 1.mole(-1).cm(-1) at 400 nm and 3.5 x 10(4) 1.mole(-1).cm(-1) at 350 nm between pH 3 and 8. Interferences are masked with EDTA.  相似文献

Inks and paper are the main materials and components of library and archive collections. Since the Third century B.C. there has been a continual succession of ink recipes from all over the world, with varying levels of documentation of the recipes used; however, it was only in the 19th century that Europe became the main producer and industrial leader in the discovery of new products. The aim of this study is to find out more about this last historical period, when new inks were created that had never been known or used in the past. In this study we chose four inks: they belong to documents preserved in the archive of the Superintendence Beni architettonici per il paesaggio e per il patrimonio storico artistico ed etnoantropologico (BAPPDAD) of Venice Lagoon, held in the Palazzo Ducale (Ducal Palace) of Venice.Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy (ATR), Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM-EDS) and pyrolysis coupled to a gas chromatograph with mass spectrometric detector (Py–GC–MS) allowed us to obtain a qualitative characterization of organic and inorganic elements in three different ink typologies.  相似文献

An ion-exchange phase absorptiometric method with Arsenazo III has been developed for the determination of uranium (VI). A flow cell with 0.1 ml of anion exchange resin was employed to achieve a detection limit for uranium of 0.16 microg/l. in 100 ml of a seawater sample. The sensitivity is about 300 times higher than for corresponding solution spectrophotometry.  相似文献

Fluorine is a phytotoxic element that can reach the soil from various industrial activities. Fluorine sorption by soil is crucial to protect water and food chain from fluorine pollution. In Galicia (NW Spain), various activities emit fluorine into the atmosphere, mainly ceramic industries and an aluminium smelter. This study, aiming to investigate fluorine sorption by Galician soils, was conducted on natural soil horizons representative of the area. Most soils were acid and rich in organic matter and showed strong fluorine sorption. The lowest sorptions were exhibited by a near-neutral serpentinite-derived soil (1001 mg kg(-1)) and the B horizons of soils developed from quartz schist (989 mg kg(-1)), and the highest by the A horizons of amphibolite-derived soils (1783 mg kg(-1)). In soils developed from quartz schist, biotitic schist and amphibolite, A horizons sorbed more fluoride than the corresponding B horizons (average 1621 and 1324 mg kg(-1), respectively), while the opposite is true in granite-derived soils (average 1644 and 1324 mg kg(-1), respectively). In the A horizons, the F sorption significantly correlated to soil pH (r=-0.79), pH in NaF (r=0.83) and oxalate Al (r=0.81). In the B horizons, sorption correlated to soil pH (r=-0.78), oxalate Fe (r=0.71) and organic C (r=0.66). F sorption can be described by both the Langmuir and Freundlich equations. The concentration of free fluoride in the equilibrium solutions increased above pH 6.  相似文献

Two international intercomparisons on the determination of trace elements in geological-environmental materials as well as two similar intercomparisons with biological materials provided a large amount of data elucidating the relative significance of various analytical techniques in the process of certification. The data have been investigated concerning their frequency of use, agreement of results by various techniques, percentage of outliers and general performance of the methods. Because many laboratories supplied results for both biological materials and both materials of mineral origin, the analysis of data in the form of two-sample charts has also been presented. The significance of an adequate procedure for outlier rejection for the proper assigning of certified values is emphasized and the unique role of neutron activation analysis in the certification process has been demonstrated. The use of highly reliable (definitive) methods for the verification of recommended values has been demonstrated.  相似文献

Uranium is determined via its 239U nuclide (74.0 keV, t12 = 23.5 min) in natural waters down to 0.03 ng U ml-1 after preconcentration with activated carbon and oxine; 30-min irradiation and counting times are used. No preconcentration is required for samples containing more than 4 ng U ml-1 with 10-min irradiation and counting times. Uranium in urine can be determined under a boron shield at the 5 ng ml-1 level after 30-min irradiation and counting.  相似文献
