Relatively monodisperse and highly luminescent Mn(2+)-doped zinc blende ZnSe nanocrystals were synthesized in aqueous solution at 100 °C using the nucleation-doping strategy. The effects of the experimental conditions and of the ligand on the synthesis of nanocrystals were investigated systematically. It was found that there were significant effects of molar ratio of precursors and heating time on the optical properties of ZnSe:Mn nanocrystals. Using 3-mercaptopropionic acid as capping ligand afforded 3.1 nm wide ZnSe:Mn quantum dots (QDs) with very low surface defect density and which exhibited the Mn(2+)-related orange luminescence. The post-preparative introduction of a ZnS shell at the surface of the Mn(2+)-doped ZnSe QDs improved their photoluminescence properties, resulting in stronger emission. A 2.5-fold increase in photoluminescence quantum yield (from 3.5 to 9%) and of Mn(2+) ion emission lifetime (from 0.62 to 1.39 ms) have been observed after surface passivation. The size and the structure of these QDs were also corroborated by using transmission electron microscopy, energy dispersive spectroscopy, and X-ray powder diffraction.  相似文献

Fluorescence oscillation is observed in an ensemble of colloidal CdSe/ZnS core/shell quantum dots (QDs) dispersed in nonpolar solvent under continuous irradiation. The QDs dispersed in toluene gradually aggregate and change their fluorescence intensity, even in the dark. During the aggregation, the QD/toluene suspension is unstable, that is, overdispersed. The fluorescence oscillation is found only in this unstable state before the system reaches steady state. In addition, the aggregation rate is promoted by irradiation and strongly correlates with the oscillation amplitude. Our experimental results indicate that the dispersion instability plays an important role in both linear and nonlinear dynamics of the fluorescence. It is inferred from the experimental results and previous studies that the complex time evolution of fluorescence in the QD/toluene dispersion is possibly due to adsorption and desorption of surface ligand molecules over the course of QD aggregation.  相似文献

Type-II core/shell CdTe/CdSe quantum dots (QDs) were synthesized in aqueous medium by employing thiol-capped CdTe QDs as core template and CdCl(2) and Na(2)SeSO(3) as shell precursors, respectively. Compared with the original CdTe cores, the core/shell CdTe/CdSe QDs showed an obvious red-shifted emission with the color-tune capability to the near-infrared (NIR) wavelength, because of the formation of an indirect excitation. The prepared QDs exhibited high stability and moderate fluorescence quantum yields (10-20%), and their core/shell heterostructure was characterized by UV-vis absorption, steady-state and time-resolved fluorescence spectra, X-ray powder diffraction, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy and high-resolution transmission electron microscopy. The fluorescence of the core/shell QDs could be markedly quenched by Cu(II), and approximate concentrations of other physiologically important cations, such as Zn(II), Ca(II), Na(I) and K(I) etc., had no effect on the fluorescence. Based on this, a simple and rapid method for Cu(II) determination was proposed using the NIR CdTe/CdSe QDs as fluorescent probes. Under optimal conditions, the response was linearly proportional to the concentration of Cu(II) between 0.05 to 50.0 x 10(-6) mol L(-1), the limit of detection was 2.0 x 10(-8) mol L(-1). The developed method was successfully applied to the detection of trace Cu(II) in real samples.  相似文献

Nanocrystalline TiO2 solar cells sensitized with InAs quantum dots   总被引:2,自引:0,他引:2
We report nanocrystalline TiO2 solar cells sensitized with InAs quantum dots. InAs quantum dots of different sizes were synthesized and incorporated in solar cell devices. Efficient charge transfer from InAs quantum dots to TiO2 particles was achieved without deliberate modification of the quantum dot capping layer. A power conversion efficiency of about 1.7% under 5 mW/cm2 was achieved; this is relatively high for a nanocrystalline metal oxide solar cell sensitized with presynthesized quantum dots, but this efficiency could only be achieved at low light intensity. At one sun, the efficiency decreased to 0.3%. The devices are stable for at least weeks under room light in air.  相似文献

Type-II band engineered quantum dots (CdTe/CdSe(core/shell) and CdSe/ZnTe(core/shell) heterostructures) are described. The optical properties of these type-II quantum dots are studied in parallel with their type-I counterparts. We demonstrate that the spatial distribution of carriers can be controlled within the type-II quantum dots, which makes their properties strongly governed by the band offset of the comprising materials. This allows access to optical transition energies that are not restricted to band gap energies. The type-II quantum dots reported here can emit at lower energies than the band gaps of comprising materials. The type-II emission can be tailored by the shell thickness as well as the core size. The enhanced control over carrier distribution afforded by these type-II materials may prove useful for many applications, such as photovoltaics and photoconduction devices.  相似文献

We report the enhancement in the molecular ordering of ferroelectric liquid crystal (FLC) doped with CdSe/ZnSe graded core/shell (CZ) quantum dots (QDs) by using optical methods. Significant decrease in operating voltage and enhancement in optical brightness are assigned to the large primary order parameter (θ) and hence anchoring of FLC molecules by CZ QDs. The enhancement in photoluminescence is conjectured to be due to an increase in molecular alignment yielding higher absorption which is confirmed by excitation spectra. These observations would definitely offer a promising tool to get superior core/shell QD incorporated FLC-based display devices.  相似文献

The rates of multicarrier recombination are measured in colloidal quantum dots with and without hole surface trapping and with hole extraction in type II core/shell systems. We report that hole trapping or the physical separation of electronic and hole wavefunctions into different semiconductor domains of a type II system have an insignificant effect on the multicarrier recombination dynamics. These observations are inconsistent with the accepted Auger transition mechanism.  相似文献

Zinc sulfide quantum dots doped with Mn(II) ions and coated with a shell of zinc sulfide were prepared, and their surface was modified with iminodiacetic acid to form a QDs-conjugate (QDs-IDA). Such modification effectively improves the water-solubility and luminescence quantum yield of the quantum dots. The optical properties and structural features were characterized by photometry, 1H NMR and fluorescence spectroscopy. The results displayed that QDs-IDA selectively respond to Ag (I) ion in phosphate buffer solution (pH 7.3) in quenching the fluorescence of QDs-IDA. A good linear relationship exists in the concentration range from 5.0?×?10?7 mol·L?1 to 4.5?×?10?6 mol·L?1 and the detection limit is 2.6?×?10?7 mol·L?1. The sensing mechanism was assumed to result from complex formation between the iminodiacetic acid of QDs-IDA and silver (I) ion which promoted photo-induced electron transfer.

This paper describes a method for direct coating of fluorescent semiconductor nanoparticles with silica shell. The fluorescent semiconductor nanoparticles used were CdSe x Te1–x nanoparticles coated with ZnS and succeedingly surface-modified with carboxyl groups, or quantum dots (Q-dots). The Q-dots were silica-coated by performing sol–gel reaction of tetraethyl orthosilicate (TEOS) using NaOH as a catalyst in the presence of the Q-dots. Quasi-perfect Q-dots/silica core-shell particles were formed at 5.0 M H2O and 4.0 × 10−4 M NaOH. Under these concentrations of H2O and NaOH, the particle size of Q-dots/silica particles could be varied from 20.1 to 38.1 nm as the TEOS concentration increased from 2.5 × 10−4 to 50 × 10−4 M. The Q-dots/silica particles showed fluorescence as well as the uncoated Q-dots.  相似文献

CdSe quantum dot sensitized solar cells(QDSCs) modified with graphene quantum dots(GQDs) have been successfully achieved in this work for the first time. Satisfactorily, the optimized photovoltage(Voc) of the modified QDSCs was approximately 0.04 V higher than that of plain CdSe QDSCs, consequently improving the photovoltaic performance of the resulting QDSCs. Served as a novel coating on the CdSe QD sensitized photoanode, GQDs played a vital role in improving Vocdue to the suppressed charge recombination which has been confirmed by electron impedance spectroscopy as well as transient photovoltage decay measurements. Moreover, different adsorption sequences, concentration and deposition time of GQDs have also been systematically investigated to boost the power conversion efficiency(PCE) of CdSe QDSCs. After the coating of CdSe with GQDs, the resulting champion CdSe QDSCs exhibited an improved PCE of 6.59% under AM 1.5G full one sun illumination.  相似文献

Syntheses of CdTe/CdSe type-II quantum dots (QDs) using CdO and CdCl2 as precursors for core and shell, respectively, are reported. Characterization was made via near-IR interband emission, transmission electron microscopy (TEM), energy dispersive spectroscopy (EDX), and X-ray diffraction (XRD). Femtosecond fluorescence upconversion measurements on the relaxation dynamics of the CdTe core (in CdTe/CdSe) emission and CdTe/CdSe interband emission reveal that as the size of the core increases from 5.3, 6.1 to 6.9 nm, the rate of photoinduced electron separation decreases from 1.96, 1.44 to 1.07 x10(12) s(-1). The finite rates of the initial charge separation are tentatively rationalized by the small electron-phonon coupling, causing weak coupling between the initial and charge-separated states.  相似文献

A series of core/shell CdSe/Zn1-xMnxS nanoparticles were synthesized for use in dual-mode optical and magnetic resonance (MR) imaging techniques. Mn2+ content was in the range of 0.6-6.2% and varies with the thickness of the shell or amount of Mn2+ introduced to the reaction. These materials showed high quantum yield (QY), reaching 60% in organic solvent. Water-soluble nanoparticles were obtained by capping the core/shell particles with amphiphilic polymer, and the QY values in water reached 21%. These materials also demonstrated high relaxivity with r1 values in the range of 11-18 mM-1 s-1 (at room temperature, 7 T). Both optical and MR imaging were performed on nanoparticles in aqueous solution and applied to cells in culture. The results showed that the QY and manganese concentration in the particles was sufficient to produce contrast for both modalities at relatively low concentrations of nanoparticles.  相似文献

The size dependence of optical and electronic properties of semiconductor quantum dots (QDs) have been extensively studied in various applications ranging from solar energy conversion to biological imaging. Core/shell QDs allow further tuning of these properties by controlling the spatial distributions of the conduction-band electron and valence-band hole wave functions through the choice of the core/shell materials and their size/thickness. It is possible to engineer type II core/shell QDs, such as CdTe/CdSe, in which the lowest energy conduction-band electron is largely localized in the shell while the lowest energy valence-band hole is localized in the core. This spatial distribution enables ultrafast electron transfer to the surface-adsorbed electron acceptors due to enhanced electron density on the shell materials, while simultaneously retarding the charge recombination process because the shell acts as a tunneling barrier for the core localized hole. Using ultrafast transient absorption spectroscopy, we show that in CdTe/CdSe-anthraquinone (AQ) complexes, after the initial ultrafast (~770 fs) intra-QD electron transfer from the CdTe core to the CdSe shell, the shell-localized electron is transferred to the adsorbed AQ with a half-life of 2.7 ps. The subsequent charge recombination from the reduced acceptor, AQ(-), to the hole in the CdTe core has a half-life of 92 ns. Compared to CdSe-AQ complexes, the type II band alignment in CdTe/CdSe QDs maintains similar ultrafast charge separation while retarding the charge recombination by 100-fold. This unique ultrafast charge separation and slow recombination property, coupled with longer single and multiple exciton lifetimes in type II QDs, suggests that they are ideal light-harvesting materials for solar energy conversion.  相似文献

The interband and intraband spectra of colloidal II-VI CdS and CdSe quantum dot cores and CdSZnSe, CdSCdSe, CdSeCdS, and CdSeZnSe core/shell systems are reported. Infrared absorption peaks between 0.5 and 0.2 eV are observed. The slope of the intraband energy versus the first interband absorption feature is characteristic of the relative band alignments of the materials constituting the core and the shell and it is analyzed within an effective mass model. The analysis provides a new estimate of the band gap of zinc blende CdSe as well as the band offsets in zinc blende and wurtzite CdSe, CdS, and ZnSe.  相似文献

Core/shell nanocrystals (NCs) integrate collaborative functionalization that would trigger advanced properties, such as high energy conversion efficiency, nonblinking emission, and spin–orbit coupling. Such prospects are highly correlated with the crystal structure of individual constituents. However, it is challenging to achieve novel phases in core/shell NCs, generally non-existing in bulk counterparts. Here, we present a fast and clean high-pressure approach to fabricate heterostructured core/shell MnSe/MnS NCs with a new phase that does not occur in their bulk counterparts. We determine the new phase as an orthorhombic MnP structure (B31 phase), with close-packed zigzagged arrangements within unit cells. Encapsulation of the solid MnSe nanorod with an MnS shell allows us to identify two separate phase transitions with recognizable diffraction patterns under high pressure, where the heterointerface effect regulates the wurtzite → rocksalt → B31 phase transitions of the core. First-principles calculations indicate that the B31 phase is thermodynamically stable under high pressure and can survive under ambient conditions owing to the synergistic effect of subtle enthalpy differences and large surface energy in nanomaterials. The ability to retain the new phase may open up the opportunity for future manipulation of electronic and magnetic properties in heterostructured nanostructures.

We report transient absorption saturation measurements on lead sulfide colloidal nanocrystals at the first and second exciton energies and fit the results to a model incorporating intraband and interband relaxation processes. We study in detail the Auger recombination from the first excited state, which takes place when more than one electron-hole pair is excited in a dot. We find an Auger coefficient of 4.5 x 10(-30) cm6/s for dots of 5.5 nm diameter, and observe saturation of the absorption bleaching when the (8-fold degenerate) first level is filled. We develop a model for the absorption dynamics using Poisson statistics and find a good fit with our experimental measurements.  相似文献
