In this paper, a multi-item inventory model for perishable items is developed, where the demand rates of the items are stock dependent, two-level trade credit is adopted and the restriction of inventory capacity is also considered. The major objective is to determine the optimal cycle time and order quantities such that the total profit is maximized. The existence and uniqueness of the optimal cycle is discussed by Lagrange approach, and line search algorithms are developed to find the optimal solution of the model. Furthermore, numerical examples are given to illustrate the methods. The sensitivity of the solution to changes in the values of different parameters is also discussed.  相似文献

This paper discusses the optimum order quantity of the EOQ model that is not only dependent on the inventory policy but also on firm’ credit policy. Here, the conditions of using a discounted cash-flows (DCF) approach and trade credit depending on the quantity ordered are discussed. We consider that if the order quantity is less than at which the delay in payments is permitted, the payment for the item must be made immediately. Otherwise, the fixed trade credit period is permitted.  相似文献

In 2007, Huang proposed the optimal retailer’s replenishment decisions in the EPQ model under two levels of trade credit policy, in which the supplier offers the retailer a permissible delay period M, and the retailer in turn provides its customer a permissible delay period N (with N < M). In this paper, we extend his EPQ model to complement the shortcoming of his model. In addition, we relax the dispensable assumptions of N < M and others. We then establish an appropriate EPQ model to the problem, and develop the proper theoretical results to obtain the optimal solution. Finally, a numerical example is used to illustrate the proposed model and its optimal solution.  相似文献

In a supplier-retailer-buyer supply chain, the supplier frequently offers the retailer a trade credit of S periods, and the retailer in turn provides a trade credit of R periods to her/his buyer to stimulate sales and reduce inventory. From the seller’s perspective, granting trade credit increases sales and revenue but also increases opportunity cost (i.e., the capital opportunity loss during credit period) and default risk (i.e., the percentage that the buyer will not be able to pay off her/his debt obligations). Hence, how to determine credit period is increasingly recognized as an important strategy to increase seller’s profitability. Also, many products such as fruits, vegetables, high-tech products, pharmaceuticals, and volatile liquids not only deteriorate continuously due to evaporation, obsolescence and spoilage but also have their expiration dates. However, only a few researchers take the expiration date of a deteriorating item into consideration. This paper proposes an economic order quantity model for the retailer where: (a) the supplier provides an up-stream trade credit and the retailer also offers a down-stream trade credit, (b) the retailer’s down-stream trade credit to the buyer not only increases sales and revenue but also opportunity cost and default risk, and (c) deteriorating items not only deteriorate continuously but also have their expiration dates. We then show that the retailer’s optimal credit period and cycle time not only exist but also are unique. Furthermore, we discuss several special cases including for non-deteriorating items. Finally, we run some numerical examples to illustrate the problem and provide managerial insights.  相似文献

This paper explores the inventory replenishment policy for deteriorating items in which the supplier provides a permissible delay to the purchaser if the order quantity is greater than or equal to a predetermined quantity. As a matter of fact, the inventory system discussed by this paper is the same as that of Chang et al. [C.T. Chang, L.Y. Ouyang, J.T. Teng, An EOQ model for deteriorating items under supplier credit credits linked to ordering quantity, Appl. Math. Model. 27 (2003) 983–996]. However, their approach in solving the problems needs further analysis. This article deals with an alternative approach to present a simple procedure in order to determine the optimal ordering policy when the supplier provides a permissible delay in payments linked to order quantity. Numerical examples reveal that the solution algorithm described in this paper is accurate and rapid.  相似文献

In 1994, professors Jaggi and Aggarwal presented the economic ordering policies of deteriorating items in the presence of trade credit using a discounted cash-flows (DCF) approach. This paper discusses the same problem as that of Jaggi and Aggarwal and indicates that some approximations to the optimal cycle times proposed by Jaggi and Aggarwal are inappropriate sometimes. A theorem is derived out to find the optimal cycle time. With that theorem, a simple algorithm is developed to locate the optimal cycle time.  相似文献

In the classical inventory economic order quantity (or EOQ) model, it was assumed that the supplier is paid for the items immediately after the items are received. However, in practices, the supplier may simultaneously offer the customer: (1) a permissible delay in payments to attract new customers and increase sales, and (2) a cash discount to motivate faster payment and reduce credit expenses. In this paper, we provide the optimal policy for the customer to obtain its minimum cost when the supplier offers not only a permissible delay but also a cash discount. We first establish a proper model, and then characterize the optimal solution and provide an easy-to-use algorithm to find the optimal order quantity and replenishment time. Furthermore, we also compare the optimal order quantity under supplier credits to the classical economic order quantity. Finally, several numerical examples are given to illustrate the theoretical results.  相似文献

In this paper, we establish and analyze three EOQ based inventory models under profit maximization via geometric programming (GP) techniques. Through GP, we find optimal order quantity and price for each of these models considering production (lot sizing) as well as marketing (pricing) decisions. We also investigate the effects on the changes in the optimal solutions when different parameters are changed. In addition, a comparative analysis between the profit maximization models is conducted. By investigating the error in the optimal price, order quantity, and profit of these models, several interesting economic implications and insights can be observed.  相似文献

Recently, Min et al. [18] established an inventory model for deteriorating items under stock-dependent demand and two-level trade credit and obtained the optimal replenishment policy. Their analysis imposed a terminal condition of zero ending-inventory. However, with a stock-dependent demand, it may be desirable to order large quantities, resulting in stock remaining at the end of the cycle, due to the potential profits resulting from the increased demand. As a result, to make the theory more applicable in practice, we extend their model to allow for: (1) an ending-inventory to be nonzero, (2) a maximum inventory ceiling to reflect the facts that too much stock leaves a negative impression on the buyer and the amount of shelf/display space is limited.  相似文献

The main purpose of this paper is to investigate the optimal retailer’s replenishment decisions under two levels of trade credit policy within the economic production quantity (EPQ) framework. We assume that the supplier would offer the retailer a delay period and the retailer also adopts the trade credit policy to stimulate his/her customer demand to develop the retailer’s replenishment model under the replenishment rate is finite. Furthermore, we assume that the retailer’s trade credit period offered by supplier M is not shorter than the customer’s trade credit period offered by retailer N (M ? N). Since the retailer cannot earn any interest in this situation, M < N.  相似文献

In the classical inventory economic order quantity (or EOQ) model, it was assumed that the purchaser must pay for the items received immediately. However, in practices, the supplier usually is willing to provide the purchaser a permissible delay of payments if the purchaser orders a large quantity. As a result, in this paper, we establish an EOQ model for deteriorating items, in which the supplier provides a permissible delay to the purchaser if the order quantity is greater than or equal to a predetermined quantity. We then characterize the optimal solution and provide an easy-to-use algorithm to find the optimal order quantity and replenishment time. Finally, several numerical examples are given to illustrate the theoretical results.  相似文献

The main purpose of this paper is to investigate the retailer’s optimal cycle time and optimal payment time under the supplier’s cash discount and trade credit policy within the economic production quantity (EPQ) framework. In this paper, we assume that the retailer will provide a full trade credit to his/her good credit customers and request his/her bad credit customers pay for the items as soon as receiving them. Under this assumption, we model the retailer’s inventory system as a cost minimization problem to determine the retailer’s optimal inventory cycle time and optimal payment time under the replenishment rate is finite. Then, an algorithm is established to obtain the optimal strategy. Finally, numerical examples are given to illustrate the theoretical results and obtain some managerial phenomena.  相似文献

A firm receives orders that will be required at an uncertain time given by an Erlang distribution, and over time observes the associated independent exponential events. The firm, in turn, places orders at a linear cost from a supplier with fixed lead time l and has the option of converting (expediting) each order, at a cost, over a certain time interval after the order is originally placed. A converted order arrives le < l units of time after it is converted. We show that a threshold policy is optimal. Under such a policy the firm places an order after a certain number of exponential events have been observed. An order is converted the first time, if any, when the residual lead time exceeds a time threshold related to the number of exponential events realized since the order was placed.  相似文献

This paper investigates the economic order quantity (EOQ) — based inventory model for a retailer under two levels of trade credit to reflect the supply chain management situation in the fuzzy sense. It is assumed that the retailer maintains a powerful position and can obtain the full trade credit offered by the supplier yet the retailer just offers a partial trade credit to customers. The demand rate, holding cost, ordering cost, purchasing cost and selling price are taken as fuzzy numbers. Under these conditions, the retailer can obtain the most benefits. Study also investigates the retailer’s inventory policy for deteriorating items in a supply chain management situation as a cost minimization problem in the fuzzy sense. The annual total variable cost for the retailer in fuzzy sense is defuzzified using Graded Mean Integration Representation method. Then the present study shows that the defuzzified annual total variable cost for the retailer is convex, that is, a unique solution exists. Mathematical theorems and algorithms are developed to efficiently determine the optimal inventory policy for the retailer. Numerical examples are given to illustrate the theorems and the algorithms. Finally, the results in this paper generalize some already published results in the crisp sense.  相似文献

This paper extends the notions of perishable inventory models to the realm of continuous review inventory systems. The traditional perishable inventory costs of ordering, holding, shortage or penalty, disposal and revenue are incorporated into the continuous review framework. The type of policy that is optimal with respect to long run average expected cost is presented for both the backlogging and lost-sales models. In addition, for the lost-sales model the cost function is presented and analyzed.  相似文献

In this paper, we consider inventory models for periodic-review systems with replenishment cycles, which consist of a number of periods. By replenishment cycles, we mean that an order is always placed at the beginning of a cycle. We use dynamic programming to formulate both the backorder and lost-sales models, and propose to charge the holding and shortage costs based on the ending inventory of periods (rather than only on the ending inventory of cycles). Since periods can be made any time units to suit the needs of an application, this approach in fact computes the holding cost based on the average inventory of a cycle and the shortage cost in proportion to the duration of shortage (for the backorder model), and remedies the shortcomings of the heuristic or approximate treatment of such systems (Hadley and Whitin, Analysis of Inventory Systems, Prentice-Hall, Englewood Cliffs, NJ, 1963). We show that a base-stock policy is optimal for the backorder model, while the optimal order quantity is a function of the on-hand inventory for the lost-sales model. Moreover, for the backorder model, we develop a simple expression for computing the optimal base-stock level; for the lost-sales model, we derive convergence conditions for obtaining the optimal operational parameters.  相似文献

In real life situation, it is observed that demand of an item depends on the length of the credit period offered by the retailer to his customers which has a positive impact on demand of an item. But the impact of credit period on demand has received a very little attention by researchers. Furthermore, by allowing shortages as backlogging, the impact on the cost from the decay of the products can be balanced out. A profitable decision policy between a supplier and the retailers can be characterized by an agreement on the permissible delay in payments. Recently, Jaggi et al. (Eur J Oper Res 190:130–135, 2008) have investigated the impact of credit linked demand on the retailer’s optimal replenishment policy. The objective of this study is to extend Jaggi et al. (Eur J Oper Res 190:130–135, 2008) model by incorporating deterioration and backlogging. That is, we formulate a two-echelon inventory model for deteriorating items with credit period dependent demand including shortages under two-level trade credit financing and determine the retailer’s optimal replenishment policy when both the supplier as well as the retailer offers the credit period to stimulate customer demand. Furthermore, we establish some useful theorems to characterize the optimal solution and provide an easy and useful computational algorithm with the help of computer code using the software Matlab 7.0 to determine the optimal shortage point, cycle length, ordering quantity and credit period. A numerical example is included to illustrate the solution procedure for the mathematical model developed. Finally, we implement sensitivity analysis of the optimal solution with respect to the major parameters of the system and obtain some important managerial insights.  相似文献

In practice, to attract new buyers and to avoid lasting price competition, a seller frequently offers its buyers a permissible delay in payment (ie, trade credit). However, the policy of granting a permissible delay in payment adds an additional dimension of default risk to the seller. In contrast to previous researchers for finding optimal solutions to buyers, we first propose an economic order quantity model from the seller's prospective to determine its optimal trade credit and order quantity simultaneously. In addition, we incorporate the important and relevant fact that trade credit has a positive impact on demand rate but a negative impact on receiving the buyer's debt obligations. Then the necessary and sufficient conditions to obtain the seller's optimal trade credit and order quantity are derived. An algorithm to determine the seller's optimal trade credit is also proposed. Finally, we use some numerical examples to illustrate the theoretical results and to provide some managerial insights.  相似文献
