Szemerédi's theorem states that given any positive number B and natural number k, there is a number n(k, B) such that if n ? n(k, B) and 0 < a1 < … < an is a sequence of integers with an ? Bn, then some k of the ai form an arithmetic progression. We prove that given any B and k, there is a number m(k, B) such that if m ? m(k, B) and u0, u1, …, um is a sequence of plane lattice points with ∑i=1m…ui ? ui?1… ? Bm, then some k of the ui are collinear. Our result, while similar to Szemerédi's theorem, does not appear to imply it, nor does Szemerédi's theorem appear to imply our result.  相似文献

The Dirichlet problem for elliptic systems of the second order with constant real and complex coefficients in the half-space  k + = {x = (x 1,…,xk ): xk > 0} is considered. It is assumed that the boundary values of a solution u = (u 1,…,u m) have the form ψ 1 ξ 1 + · · · + ψ n ξ n, 1 ≤ nm, where ξ 1,· · ·,ξ n is an orthogonal system of m-component normed vectors and ψ 1,· · ·,ψ n are continuous and bounded functions on ? k +. We study the mappings [C(? k +)] n ? (ψ 1,…,ψ n) → u(x) ?  m and [C(? k +)] n ? (ψ 1,…,ψ n) → u(x) ?  m generated by real and complex vector valued double layer potentials. We obtain representations for the sharp constants in inequalities between |u(x)| or |(z, u(x))| and ∥u| xk =0∥, where z is a fixed unit m-component vector, | · | is the length of a vector in a finite-dimensional unitary space or in Euclidean space, and (·,·) is the inner product in the same space. Explicit representations of these sharp constants for the Stokes and Lamé systems are given. We show, in particular, that if the velocity vector (the elastic displacement vector) is parallel to a constant vector at the boundary of a half-space and if the modulus of the boundary data does not exceed 1, then the velocity vector (the elastic displacement vector) is majorised by 1 at an arbitrary point of the half-space. An analogous classical maximum modulus principle is obtained for two components of the stress tensor of the planar deformed state as well as for the gradient of a biharmonic function in a half-plane.  相似文献

We first give an extension of a theorem of Volkonskii and Rozanov characterizing the strictly stationary random sequences satisfying ‘absolute regularity’. Then a strictly stationary sequence {Xk, k = …, ?1, 0, 1,…} is constructed which is a 0?1 instantaneous function of an aperiodic Markov chain with countable irreducible state space, such that n?2 var (X1 + ? + Xn) approaches 0 arbitrarily slowly as n → ∞ and (X1 + ? + Xn) is partially attracted to every infinitely divisible law.  相似文献

For an atomic domain R the elasticity ρ(R) is defined by ρ(R) = sup{m/n ¦ u1u m = v 1 … vn where ui, vi ∈ R are irreducible}. Let R 0 ? ? R l be an ascending chain of domains which are finitely generated over ? and assume that R l is integral over R 0. Let X be an indeterminate. In this paper we characterize all domains D of the form D = R 0 + XR1 + … + XlRl[X] whose elasticity ρ(D) is finite.  相似文献

In this paper, the so-called(p, φ)-Carleson measure is introduced and the relationship between vector-valued martingales in the general Campanato spaces Lp,φ(X) and the(p, φ)-Carleson measures is investigated. Specifically, it is proved that for q ∈ [2, ∞), the measure dμ := ||dfk||~qdP ? dm is a(q, φ)-Carleson measure on ? × N for every f ∈ L_q,φ(X)if and only if X has an equivalent norm which is q-uniformly convex; while for p ∈(1, 2], the measure dμ :=||dfk||~pdP ? dm is a(p, φ)-Carleson measure on ? × N implies that f ∈ L_p,φ(X)if and only if X admits an equivalent norm which is p-uniformly smooth. This result extends an earlier result in the literature from BMO spaces to general Campanato spaces.  相似文献

Let X be a convex subset of a finite-dimensional real vector space. A function M: X k → X is called a strict mean value, if M(x1,…, xk) lies in the convex hull of x1,…, xk), but does not coincide with one of its vertices. A sequence (xn)n∈ ? in X is called M-recursive if xn+k = M(xn, xn+1,…, xn+k?1) for all n. We prove that for a continuous strict mean value M every M-recursive sequence is convergent. We give a necessary and sufficient condition for a convergent sequence in X to be M-recursive for some continuous strict mean value M, and we characterize its limit by a functional equation. 39 B 72, 39 B 52, 40 A 05.  相似文献

The set S of distinct scores (outdegrees) of the vertices of ak-partite tournamentT(X 1, X2, ···, Xk) is called its score set. In this paper, we prove that every set of n non-negative integers, except {0} and {0, 1}, is a score set of some 3-partite tournament. We also prove that every set ofn non-negative integers is a score set of somek-partite tournament for everynk ≥ 2.  相似文献

ABSTRACT

The circulant graph Cp > a1,…, ak < with 0 > a1 >…> ak >(pt1)/2 has p vertices labeled 0,1,…,p-1 and x and y are adjacent if and only if x—y = ± ai (mod p) for some i. We prove the following regarding the chromatic index of a circulant: if d = gcd (a1,…, ak, p), then x' (Cp > al,…,ak) = Δ(C p > a1,…,ak) if and only if p/d is even.  相似文献

In this paper, we investigate the following problem: give a quasi-Boolean function Ψ(x 1, …, x n ) = (aC) ∨ (a 1C 1) ∨ … ∨ (a p C p ), the term (aC) can be deleted from Ψ(x 1, …, x n )? i.e., (aC) ∨ (a 1C 1) ∨ … ∨ (a p C p ) = (a 1C 1) ∨ … ∨ (a p C p )? When a = 1: we divide our discussion into two cases. (1) ?1(Ψ,C) = ø, C can not be deleted; ?1(Ψ,C) ≠ ø, if S i 0 ≠ ø (1 ≤ iq), then C can not be deleted, otherwise C can be deleted. When a = m: we prove the following results: (mC)∨(a 1C 1)∨…∨(a p C p ) = (a 1C 1)∨…∨(a p C p ) ? (mC) ∨ C 1 ∨ … ∨C p = C 1 ∨ … ∨C p . Two possible cases are listed as follows, (1) ?2(Ψ,C) = ø, the term (mC) can not be deleted; (2) ?2(Ψ,C) ≠ ø, if (?i 0) such that \(S'_{i_0 } \) = ø, then (mC) can be deleted, otherwise ((mC)∨C 1∨…∨C q )(v 1, …, v n ) = (C 1 ∨ … ∨ C q )(v 1, …, v n )(?(v 1, …, v n ) ∈ L 3 n ) ? (C 1 ∨ … ∨ C q )(u 1, …, u q ) = 1(?(u 1, …, u q ) ∈ B 2 n ).  相似文献

Let S(n, k, v) denote the number of vectors (a0,…, an?1) with nonnegative integer components that satisfy a0 + … + an ? 1 = k and Σi=0n?1iaiv (mod n). Two proofs are given for the relation S(n, k, v) = S(k, n, v). The first proof is by algebraic enumeration while the second is by combinatorial construction.  相似文献

The initial value problem on [?R, R] is considered: ut(t, x) = uxx(t, x) + u(t, x)γu(t, ±R) = 0u(0, x) = ?(x), where ? ? 0 and γ is a fixed large number. It is known that for some initial values ? the solution u(t, x) exists only up to some finite time T, and that ∥u(t, ·)∥ → ∞ as tT. For the specific initial value ? = , where ψ ? 0, ψxx + ψγ = 0, ψR) = 0, k is sufficiently large, it is shown that if x ≠ 0, then limtTu(t, x) and limtTux(t, x) exist and are finite. In other words, blow-up occurs only at the point x = 0.  相似文献

We study properties of the polynomials φk(X) which appear in the formal development Πk ? 0n (a + bXk)rk = Σk ≥ 0φk(X) ar ? kbk, where rkl and r = Σrk. this permits us to obtain the coefficients of all cyclotomic polynomials. Then we use these properties to expand the cyclotomic numbers Gr(ξ) = Πk = 1p ? 1 (a + k)kr, where p is a prime, ξ is a primitive pth root of 1, a, bl and 1 ≤ rp ? 3, modulo powers of ξ ? 1 (until (ξ ? 1)2(p ? 1) ? r). This gives more information than the usual logarithmic derivative. Suppose that p ? ab(a + b). Let m = ?ba. We prove that Gr(ξ) ≡ cp mod p(ξ ? 1)2 for some cl, if and only if Σk = 1p ? 1kp ? 2 ? rmk ≡ 0 (mod p). We hope to show in this work that this result is useful in the study of the first case of Fermat's last theorem.  相似文献

Given a probability space (X, μ) and a bounded domain Ω in ?d equipped with the Lebesgue measure |·| (normalized so that |Ω| = 1), it is shown (under additional technical assumptions on X and Ω) that for every vector-valued function u ∈ Lp (X, μ; ?d) there is a unique “polar factorization” u = ?Ψs, where Ψ is a convex function defined on Ω and s is a measure-preserving mapping from (X, μ) into (Ω, |·|), provided that u is nondegenerate, in the sense that μ(u?1(E)) = 0 for each Lebesgue negligible subset E of ?d. Through this result, the concepts of polar factorization of real matrices, Helmholtz decomposition of vector fields, and nondecreasing rearrangements of real-valued functions are unified. The Monge-Ampère equation is involved in the polar factorization and the proof relies on the study of an appropriate “Monge-Kantorovich” problem.  相似文献

Let Xj (j = 1,…,n) be i.i.d. random variables, and let Y′ = (Y1,…,Ym) and X′ = (X1,…,Xn) be independently distributed, and A = (ajk) be an n × n random coefficient matrix with ajk = ajk(Y) for j, k = 1,…,n. Consider the equation U = AX, Kingman and Graybill [Ann. Math. Statist.41 (1970)] have shown UN(O,I) if and only if XN(O,I). provided that certain conditions defined in terms of the ajk are satisfied. The task of this paper is to delete the identical assumption on X1,…,Xn and then generalize the results to the vector case. Furthermore, the condition of independence on the random components within each vector is relaxed, and also the question raised by the above authors is answered.  相似文献

Let R+ be the space of nonnegative real numbers. F. Waldhausen defines a k-fold end structure on a space X as an ordered k-tuple of continuous maps xf:XR+, 1 ? j ? k, yielding a proper map x:X → (R+)k. The pairs (X,x) are made into the category Ek of spaces with k-fold end structure. Attachments and expansions in Ek are defined by induction on k, where elementary attachments and expansions in E0 have their usual meaning. The category Ek/Z consists of objects (X, i) where i: ZX is an inclusion in Ek with an attachment of i(Z) to X, and the category Ek6Z consists of pairs (X,i) of Ek/Z that admit retractions XZ. An infinite complex over Z is a sequence X = {X1 ? X2 ? … ? Xn …} of inclusions in Ek6Z. The abelian grou p S0(Z) is then defined as the set of equivalence classes of infinite complexes dominated by finite ones, where the equivalence relation is generated by homotopy equivalence and finite attachment; and the abelian group S1(Z) is defined as the set of equivalence classes of X1, where XEk/Z deformation retracts to Z. The group operations are gluing over Z. This paper presents the Waldhausen theory with some additions and in particular the proof of Waldhausen's proposition that there exists a natural exact sequence 0 → S1(Z × R)→πS0(Z) by utilizing methods of L.C. Siebenmann. Waldhausen developed this theory while seeking to prove the topological invariance of Whitehead torsion; however, the end structures also have application in studying the splitting of a noncompact manifold as a product with R[1].  相似文献

At first Cauchy-problem for the equation: \(L[u(X,t)] \equiv \sum\limits_{i = 1}^n {\frac{{\partial ^2 u}}{{\partial x_1^2 }} + \frac{{2v}}{{\left| X \right|^2 }}} \sum\limits_{i = 1}^n {x_i \frac{{\partial u}}{{\partial x_i }} - \frac{{\partial u}}{{\partial t}} = 0} \) wheren≥1,v—an arbitrary constant,t>0,X=(x 1, …, xn)∈E n/{0}, |X|= =(x 1 2 +…+x n 2 )1/2, with 0 being a centre of coordinate system, is studied. Basing on the above, the solution of Cauchy-Nicolescu problem is given which consist in finding a solution of the equationL p [u (X, t)]=0, withp∈N subject the initial conditions \(\mathop {\lim }\limits_{t \to \infty } L^k [u(X,t)] = \varphi _k (X)\) ,k=0, 1,…,p?1 and ?k(X) are given functions.  相似文献

We show that, for a broad class of symmetric spaces on [0, 1], the complementability of the subspace generated by independent functions f k (k = 1, 2,…) is equivalent to the complementability of the subspace generated by the disjoint translates $\bar f_k (t) = f_k (t - k + 1)\chi _{[k - 1,k]} (t)$ of these functions in some symmetric space Z X 2 on the semiaxis [0,∞). Moreover, if Σ k=1 m(supp f k ) ? 1, then Z X 2 can be replaced by X itself. This result is new even in the case of L p -spaces. A series of consequences is obtained; in particular, for the class of symmetric spaces, a result similar to a well-known theorem of Dor and Starbird on the complementability in L p [0, 1] (1 ? p < ) of the subspace [f k ] generated by independent functions provided that it is isomorphic to the space l p is obtained.  相似文献

Let (X, Y) be a pair of normed spaces such that X ? Y ? L 1[0, 1] n and {e k } k be an expanding sequence of finite sets in ? n with respect to a scalar or vector parameter k, k ∈ ? or k ∈ ? n . The properties of the sequence of norms $\{ \left\| {S_{e_k } (f)} \right\|x\} _k $ of the Fourier sums of a fixed function fY are studied. As the spaces X and Y, the Lebesgue spaces L p [0, 1], the Lorentz spaces L p,q [0, 1], L p,q [0, 1] n , and the anisotropic Lorentz spaces L p,q*[0, 1] n are considered. In the one-dimensional case, the sequence {e k } k consists of segments, and in the multidimensional case, it is a sequence of hyperbolic crosses or parallelepipeds in ? n . For trigonometric polynomials with the spectrum given by step hyperbolic crosses and parallelepipeds, various types of inequalities for different metrics in the Lorentz spaces L p,q [0, 1] n and L p,q*[0, 1] n are obtained.  相似文献

We study the well-posedness of the second order degenerate integro-differential equations(P2):(Mu)(t)+α(Mu)(t) = Au(t)+ft-∞ a(ts)Au(s)ds + f(t),0t2π,with periodic boundary conditions M u(0)=Mu(2π),(Mu)(0) =(M u)(2π),in periodic Lebesgue-Bochner spaces Lp(T,X),periodic Besov spaces B s p,q(T,X) and periodic Triebel-Lizorkin spaces F s p,q(T,X),where A and M are closed linear operators on a Banach space X satisfying D(A) D(M),a∈L1(R+) and α is a scalar number.Using known operatorvalued Fourier multiplier theorems,we completely characterize the well-posedness of(P2) in the above three function spaces.  相似文献
