A quality management system has been designed for process analyses in wastewater plants. The quality management concept consists of a quality manual, quality control charts used together with certified reference materials, and proficiency testing. Certified reference materials have been used to eliminate basic analytical errors. Proficiency testing has been conducted by VKI, the Reference Laboratory for Environmental Chemistry, subcontracted by the Danish Environmental Protection Agency. In the first proficiency test the analytical quality was comparable in general to the quality of routine environmental laboratories. One of the simplified analytical systems resulted, however, in a low recovery of nitrate in wastewater. The COD results reported in the proficiency test were slightly higher than the theoretical values.  相似文献

This paper describes useful procedures to monitor quality of chloride and nitrate ions analysis in plant samples by ion chromatography. The use of certified reference materials (CRMs) provided an efficient way to verify the accuracy of the method. Data generated by the method of analysis for chloride compared favourably with certified values. The quality system included also the systematic analysis of an internal reference sample in each batch of samples routinely analysed. The performance of the method, including extraction and measurement, over a period of 3 years was reported with control charts. The yearly variation coefficients were less than 6.5% for chloride and nitrate ions. Finally, the analytical method was evaluated through the participation of laboratory to an international proficiency testing scheme. Found results were not significantly different from published medians.  相似文献

Besides their role as an external quality control tool, PT results or samples could be used as an alternative to fulfil some of the quality assurance requirements such as analytical precision, uncertainty assessment, and internal quality control. This additional use of proficiency testing could help laboratories to reduce the financial impact of their quality assurance process. The purpose of this paper is to highlight some practical uses of PT results or samples in the environmental analytical field, which have been implemented at ISSeP (Institut Scientifique de Service Public), either for method validation or for internal quality control.Presented at the Eurachem PT Workshop September 2005, Portorož, Slovenia  相似文献

Nucleic acid based clinical genetic testing has undergone explosive growth in recent years due in large part to the human genome project. Characterization of the human genome has led to a molecular understanding of the pathogenesis of many human diseases, and ultimately to clinical molecular tests becoming routinely used to diagnose a wide diversity of diseases. This rapid growth in clinical molecular genetic testing coupled with the complexity of the analytical procedures underscores the necessity for proficiency testing (i.e. external quality assessment) to allow laboratories offering such services the ability to evaluate their analytical procedures via inter-laboratory comparisons. The American College of Medical Genetics (ACMG) in partnership with the College of American Pathologists (CAP) have been offering proficiency testing for clinical molecular genetics laboratories since 1995, and presently have more than 230 laboratories from 11 countries enrolled in this program. This paper describes the evolution of this program and several challenges encountered in the delivery of a proficiency testing program for laboratories offering clinical molecular genetic services. A reliable determination of natural and anthropogenic radionuclides in environmental samples is necessary to comply with the radiation protection and environmental regulations. This paper presents the results of the characterisation of massic activities of natural and anthropogenic radionuclides in soil and water matrices produced as test items to conduct the proficiency test ERAD-PT-2013. The proficiency test ERAD-PT-2013 was designed to investigate analytical performance in analysing both natural and anthropogenic radionuclides, to assist laboratories to identify analytical problems, and to improve the quality of measurement results. The proficiency test items, their spectral interferences and the activity concentration levels of the analytes were designed in a way to enable identification of potential analytical problems. Methodologies, data evaluation approach and evaluation of proficiency test results for each radionuclide are described and discussed.  相似文献

The use of rapid and inexpensive nonlaboratory-based screening tests for drug quality assessments is recommended as a component of a drug quality assurance program in poor resource settings. We have established routine Minilab test procedures to screen product quality and a proficiency testing program to determine the competency of the inspectors and reliability of results. Samples for the proficiency testing were prepared by pulverizing a standard reference tablet of the appropriate drug and making serial dilutions with starch to obtain concentrations of 0, 40, and 100%. The samples, which were labeled only with the drug name and an identifying letter, were given to inspectors for quality screening using Minilab procedures. In round 1 of the proficiency test, only 3 of 28 substandard samples were correctly identified. Round 2 of the proficiency test, which was administered after a performance qualification test for the analytical method, showed much improvement: 19 of 27 substandard drugs were correctly identified, while 5 out of 9 inspectors made the correct inference on the quality of 45 samples. However, in both rounds, 2 inspectors failed to identify substandard samples, indicating that their technical competencies need to be improved for the reliability of the results. Although the thin-layer chromatography screening methods provide a rapid means for drug quality assessment, they need to be put in the hands of competent users. The inclusion of a proficiency test in the screening program provides a measure of determining competency of the personnel and reliability of the results.  相似文献

Two Beta-Agonist Interlaboratory Studies, 5/96 and 11/97, were designed and evaluated according to the International Harmonised Protocol for the Proficiency Testing of (Chemical) Analytical Laboratories (ISO/REMCO N 280) jointly elaborated by ISO, IUPAC and AOAC. In the sense of proficiency testing, interlaboratory studies are part of external quality assurance systems. The Beta-Agonist Interlaboratory Studies 5/96 and 11/97 were intended to offer laboratories in the EU Member States an opportunity to check objectively their routine methods for the detection of beta-agonists and to demonstrate the reliability of their analytical results; 48 and 44 laboratories, respectively, all involved in official residue control, participated in the studies. Irrespective of the large number of satisfactory results achieved at higher concentration levels according to the z-score evaluation, the number of false negative results is still unsatisfactory. The results of both Beta-Agonist Interlaboratory Studies confirmed that comparability of analytical results is not yet ensured within the European residue control system.  相似文献

After 7 years of successful operation, the database of the proficiency testing (PT) scheme for water analysis organized by the Institute for Agrobiotechnology (IFA), Tulln contains nearly 4,000 data sets from over 300 interlaboratory comparison samples. About 70 analytical parameters (major ions, metals, trace ions, herbicides, volatile halogenated hydrocarbons, organochlorine pesticides and polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons) were covered by the PT scheme. The data were evaluated using robust statistics in order to determine a set of coefficients of variation (CV) for each analytical parameter. Concentration and time dependence of the CV were checked. The CV were combined to obtain standard deviations for proficiency assessment (Z-score criteria). Furthermore, a viewer program was designed to facilitate monitoring of the analytical performance of participating laboratories.  相似文献

In 1999 the Food Microbiology laboratory of the Istituto Zooprofilattico Sperimentale delle Venezie (IZSVe) started an interlaboratory comparison program for food microbiological tests, known as “Aqua, interlaboratory comparisons for quality assurance”. Aqua produces the test samples, applies statistical methods to estimate homogeneity and stability, processes and evaluates the results. The proficiency testing results allow to evaluate the performance of the laboratories, to identify possible differences and non-conformity, to demonstrate the competence and the quality of results, in order to take suitable corrective and/or preventive action after the individuation of the causes. Moreover, elaborating the results of several proficiency testing by using the control chart method, it is possible to evaluate the trend of the laboratory and to verify that the results are in statistical quality control.  相似文献

Point-of-care (POC) testing of glucose (glucometers) represents a convenient alternative to monitor glycemia since the measurement procedure is performed without delay after sampling of the capillary blood, thereby avoiding the metabolism by the blood cells of glucose present in plasma. Likely because of sample instability, there is no proficiency test provider in Brazil for this type of POC sample. In this context, this study aimed to evaluate the analytical performance of glucometers used in a tertiary care hospital. The glucometers used were the Accu-Chek Performa® model from Roche Diagnostics, which use the principle of amperometry. The reference method was the reaction with modified hexokinase/glucose-6-phosphate in a Dimension® device. The stability evaluation of the control samples showed that it can be performed up to 90 min after the collection of whole blood samples. In the two rounds performed, only one result of the 17 glucometers evaluated was out of the threshold of two standard deviation. Thus, this method for control of glucometers met the expectations and enabled comparing the glucometers in a hospital. Given the current quality guidelines, daily internal quality control of glucometers is recommended, besides at least two annual comparisons between the results of the glucometers and the reference method and one EQA every 3 months.  相似文献

A new composite score for the evaluation of performance of proficiency testing participants is proposed. The score is based on a combination of the z-score, uncertainty of a participant’s measurement result and uncertainty of the proficiency testing scheme’s assigned value. The use of such a composite score will allow evaluation not only of the participant’s ability to determine an analyte in corresponding matrix, but also their understanding of the uncertainty in the obtained analytical result. The score may be helpful for the laboratory’s quality system and for laboratory accreditation according to ISO 17025.  相似文献

As a laboratory certified to ISO 9001:2000 and accredited to ISO 17025, rtech laboratories has incorporated an overall system for technical and quality management, which results in benefits observed in daily laboratory practices. Technical requirements were updated to include the addition of formal personnel training plans and detailed records, method development and validation procedures, measurement of method uncertainty, and a defined equipment calibration and maintenance program. In addition, a stronger definition of the sample preparation process was documented to maintain consistency in sampling, and a more rigorous quality control monitoring program was implemented for chemistry and microbiology. Management quality improvements focused on document control to maintain consistent analytical processes, improved monitoring of supplier performance, a contract review process for documenting customer requirements, and a system for handling customer comments and complaints, with continuous improvement through corrective and preventive action procedures and audits. Quarterly management review of corrective actions, nonconforming testing, and proficiency testing aid in determining long-term trending. The practical benefits of these technical and management quality improvements are seen on a daily basis in the laboratory. Faster identification and resolution of issues regarding methods, personnel or equipment, improved customer satisfaction, meeting quality requirements of specialized customers, and overall increased laboratory business are all the result of implementing an effective quality system.  相似文献

It is now well recognised that the quality control (QC) of all types of analyses, including environmental analyses depends on the appropriate use of reference materials. One of the ways to check the accuracy of methods is based on the use of Certified Reference Materials (CRMs), whereas other types of (not certified) Reference Materials (RMs) are used for routine quality control (establishment of control charts) and interlaboratory testing (e.g. proficiency testing). The perception of these materials, in particular with respect to their production and use, differs widely according to various perspectives (e.g. RM producers, routine laboratories, researchers). This review discusses some critical aspects of RM use and production for the QC of environmental analyses and describes the new approach followed by the Measurements & Testing Generic Activity (European Commission) to tackle new research and production needs.  相似文献

The interlaboratory variability in the quantification of adsorbable organically bound halogens (AOX) in industrially contaminated soil is presented. Three consecutive rounds of a proficiency testing scheme, in which between 88 and 119 routine laboratories participated, yielded relative reproducibility standard deviations between 7 and 20% at AOX contents between 10.9 and 268 mg kg−1. Nineteen laboratories with established proficiency were invited to participate in the certification of the AOX content in three soil reference materials meant for the internal quality control in analytical laboratories. The certified values are (1349 ± 59) mg kg−1, (80 ± 7) mg kg−1 and (102 ± 8) mg kg−1, respectively.  相似文献

The proficiency testing program in food microbiology (Réseau d'Analyses et d'Echanges en Microbiologie des Aliments; RAEMA), created in 1988, currently includes 440 participating laboratories. The program establishes proficiency in detection of Salmonella and Listeria monocytogenes, as well as quantitation of aerobic microorganisms, Enterobacteriaceae, coliforms, Escherichia coli, Clostridium perfringens, coagulase-positive Staphylococcus, and Listeria monocytogenes. Twice a year, 5 test samples are sent to participants to assess their precision and trueness for enumeration and detection of microorganisms. Results show an increasing involvement of food microbiology laboratories in quality assurance programs and use of standard and validated analytical methods. However, the percentage of laboratories obtaining questionable and unsatisfactory microbiological results remains relatively constant.  相似文献

Proficiency testing as a means of external quality assessment plays the role of independent evidence of laboratories’ performance. To enable laboratories to fulfil the requirements stated in legislation, methodology for evaluation of laboratories’ performance in proficiency testing schemes should incorporate principles of measurement results which are fit for intended use and incorporate evaluation of laboratories’ performances based on independent reference value. A proficiency testing scheme was designed to support Drinking Water Directive (98/83/EC) specifically. The methodology for performance evaluation, which takes into account a “fitness for purpose”-based standard deviation for proficiency assessment, is proposed and discussed in terms of requirements of the Drinking Water Directive. A ζ′-score, modified by application of target uncertainty was developed in a way that fulfils requirements defined in the legislation. As an illustration, results are reported for nitrate concentration in water. The approach presented can also be applied to other fields of measurements.  相似文献

Three different techniques, energy dispersive X-ray fluorescence, total reflection X-ray fluorescence and particle induced X-ray emission were used to initiate an evaluation program on quality assurance (QA) procedures applied to X-ray spectrometry for chemical analysis. The use of standard methodologies to assure the statistical control of measurement data is the main objective of this work. Certified Reference Materials were used and up to 15 certified elements were analyzed to carry out the QA procedures. For the internal quality control, z-scores were calculated and control charts were produced. The plotted elemental data illustrate statistically controlled methodologies for the majority of the determinations. Even the cases where the control charts exhibit values out of control limits, the z-scores are below 3 in absolute value, indicating satisfactory results. Concerning external quality control the statistical methods applied showed that the results obtained for the three techniques are comparable, although some significant differences occur, mainly due to sample preparation. Therefore, the techniques are traceable to certified reference materials and the data gathered so far, enable to initiate a database for QA procedures.  相似文献

Proficiency testing schemes monitor laboratory performance and provide a stimulus for improvement in accuracy. Where several schemes operate in the same analytical sector, there are risks that assessments of performance may be in conflict. Performance assessment for the determination of trace elements such as aluminum in serum is particularly important due to the high risk of contamination and therefore erroneous results. The objectives of this work were (1) to compare several mathematical models to establish a predefined standard deviation for proficiency assessment and (2) to evaluate the influence of instrumental methods and proficiency testing scheme on the assessment of performance for serum aluminum measurements. For this purpose, three samples were sent to the participants of four proficiency testing schemes. Assigned values were calculated according to algorithm A according to ISO 13528 and standard deviation for proficiency assessment according to three methods based on individual variability, state of the art or previous proficiency testing results. The method based on individual variability produced a more stringent standard deviation compared to analytical imprecision based on the state of the art. The instrumental methods gave similar results, whereas significant differences were observed between the four proficiency testing schemes indicating that harmonization of the standard deviation for proficiency assessment fails to allow transferability from one proficiency testing scheme to another and that additional factor(s) contribute to variability in performance assessment.  相似文献
