A generalized flat extension theorem for moment matrices

In this note we prove a generalization of the flat extension theorem of Curto and Fialkow (Memoirs of the American Mathematical Society, vol. 119. American Mathematical Society, Providence, 1996) for truncated moment matrices. It applies to moment matrices indexed by an arbitrary set of monomials and its border, assuming that this set is connected to 1. When formulated in a basis-free setting, this gives an equivalent result for truncated Hankel operators.      

A multilinear operator for almost product evaluation of Hankel determinants

In a recent paper we have presented a method to evaluate certain Hankel determinants as almost products; i.e. as a sum of a small number of products. The technique to find the explicit form of the almost product relies on differential-convolution equations and trace calculations. In the trace calculations a number of intermediate nonlinear terms involving determinants occur, but only to cancel out in the end.In this paper, we introduce a class of multilinear operators γ acting on tuples of matrices as an alternative to the trace method. These operators do not produce extraneous nonlinear terms, and can be combined easily with differentiation.The paper is self contained. An example of an almost product evaluation using γ-operators is worked out in detail and tables of the γ-operator values on various forms of matrices are provided. We also present an explicit evaluation of a new class of Hankel determinants and conjectures.     

Asymptotic Toeplitz and Hankel operators on the Bergman space

In this paper the concept of asymptotic Toeplitz and asymptotic Hankel operators on the Bergman space are introduced and properties of these classes of operators are studied. The importance of this notion is that it associates with a class of operators a Toeplitz operator and with a class of operators a Hankel operator where the original operators are not even Toeplitz or Hankel. Thus it is possible to assign a symbol to an operator that is not Toeplitz or Hankel and hence a symbol calculus is obtained. Further a relation between Toeplitz operators and little Hankel operators on the Bergman space is established in some asymptotic sense.     

On a Toeplitz determinant identity of Borodin and Okounkov

In this note we give two other proofs of an identity of A. Borodin and A. Okounkov which expresses a Toeplitz determinant in terms of the Fredholm determinant of a product of two Hankel operators. On the Inverse and Determinant of Certain Truncated Wiener-Hopf Operators

The solution of a problem arising in integrable systems requires sharp asymptotics for the inverses and determinants of truncated Wiener-Hopf operators, both in the regular case (where the non-truncated Wiener-Hopf operator is invertible) and in singular cases. This paper treats two cases where the symbol of the Wiener-Hopf operator has Fisher-Hartwig singularities, one double zero or two simple zeros. We find formulas for the inverse that hold uniformly throughout the underlying interval with very small error, and formulas for the determinant with very small error.     

Hankel matrices for the period-doubling sequence

We give an explicit evaluation, in terms of products of Jacobsthal numbers, of the Hankel determinants of order a power of two for the period-doubling sequence. We also explicitly give the eigenvalues and eigenvectors of the corresponding Hankel matrices. Similar considerations give the Hankel determinants for other orders.

Hankel operators, the Segal-Bargmann space, and symmetrically-normed ideals

Starting with the Segal-Bargmann space, we investigate the Hankel operators with symbol functions in a certain linear space. Given an appropriate symbol function, we consider the associated Hankel operator together with the Hankel operator associated with that symbol function's complex conjugate. We give a necessary and sufficient condition for the simultaneous membership of these two operators in the symmetrically-normed ideal associated with any given symmetric norming function.     

A note on p-supersolvable groups

The notion of Hankel operators associated with analytic crossed products were introduced and researched in [2]. In this paper, we study the adjoint of Hankel operators and give necessary and sufficient condition that the adjoint of a Hankel operator is again a Hankel operator. A commutator method for the diagonalization of Hankel operators

A method for the explicit diagonalization of some Hankel operators is presented. This method makes it possible to give new proofs of classical results on the diagonalization of Hankel operators with absolutely continuous spectrum and obtain new results. The approach relies on the commutation of a Hankel operator with a certain second-order differential operator.     

Hankel convolution operators on entire functions and distributions

In this paper we study the Hankel convolution operators on the space of even and entire functions and on Schwartz distribution spaces. We characterize the Hankel convolution operators as those ones that commute with Hankel translations and with a Bessel operator. Also we prove that the Hankel convolution operators are hypercyclic and chaotic on the spaces under consideration.     

Asymptotic and Partial Asymptotic Hankel Operators on $$H^2(\mathbb{D}^n)$$ H 2 ( D n ) )

In this paper, we generalize the concept of asymptotic Hankel operators on H²(D) to the Hardy space H²(Dⁿ) (over polydisk) in terms of asymptotic Hankel and partial asymptotic Hankel operators and investigate some properties in case of its weak and strong convergence. Meanwhile, we introduce i^th-partial Hankel operators on H²(Dⁿ) and obtain a characterization of its compactness for n > 1. Our main results include the containment of Toeplitz algebra in the collection of all strong partial asymptotic Hankel operators on H²(Dⁿ). It is also shown that a Toeplitz operator with symbol φ is asymptotic Hankel if and only if φ is holomorphic function in L^∞(Tⁿ).     

A note onC P estimates for certain kernels

For a certain class of operators defined by integral kernels, a necessary and sufficient condition is given for the belonging to the Schatten-von Neumann idealsC _P. The operators considered generalize the classical Hankel operators; the results thus extend Peller's characterization of the Hankel operators in a classC _P.

Little Hankel operators on the half plane

In this paper we consider a class of weighted integral operators onL ² (0, ) and show that they are unitarily equivalent to Hankel operators on weighted Bergman spaces of the right half plane. We discuss conditions for the Hankel integral operator to be finite rank, Hilbert-Schmidt, nuclear and compact, expressed in terms of the kernel of the integral operator. For a particular class of weights these operators are shown to be unitarily equivalent to little Hankel operators on weighted Bergman spaces of the disc, and the symbol correspondence is given. Finally the special case of the unweighted Bergman space is considered and for this case, motivated by approximation problems in systems theory, some asymptotic results on the singular values of Hankel integral operators are provided.     

On generalized hankel operators induced by sums and products

Vectorial Hankel operators are studied, in particular the ranges of Hankel operators induced by sums and products of matrix functions defined on the unit circle are determined. The analytical tools involve factorization theorems for operator valued analytic functions and the spectral analysis of operators that intertwine restricted shifts.

Generalized inversion of finite rank Hankel and Toeplitz operators with rational matrix symbols

The goal of the paper is a generalized inversion of finite rank Hankel operators and Hankel or Toeplitz operators with block matrices having finitely many rows. To attain it a left coprime fractional factorization of a strictly proper rational matrix function and the Bezout equation are used. Generalized inverses of these operators and generating functions for the inverses are explicitly constructed in terms of the fractional factorization.     

Block diagonalization and LU-equivalence of Hankel matrices

This article presents a new algorithm for obtaining a block diagonalization of Hankel matrices by means of truncated polynomial divisions, such that every block is a lower Hankel matrix. In fact, the algorithm generates a block LU-factorization of the matrix. Two applications of this algorithm are also presented. By the one hand, this algorithm yields an algebraic proof of Frobenius’ Theorem, which gives the signature of a real regular Hankel matrix by using the signs of its principal leading minors. On the other hand, the close relationship between Hankel matrices and linearly recurrent sequences leads to a comparison with the Berlekamp–Massey algorithm.     

Remarks on product

Well known results related to the compactness of Hankel operators of one complex variable are extended to little Hankel operators of two complex variables. Critical to these considerations is the result of Ferguson and Lacey (2002) characterizing the boundedness of the little Hankel operators in terms of the product BMO of S.-Y. Chang and R. Fefferman (1985), (1980).
