On the Spectral Distribution of Gaussian Random Matrices

We consider the empirical spectral distribution （ESD） of a random matrix from the Gaussian Unitary Ensemble. Based on the Plancherel-Rotaeh approximation formula for Hermite polynomials, we prove that the expected empirical spectral distribution converges at the rate of O（n^-1） to the Wigner distribution function uniformly on every compact intervals [u,v] within the limiting support （-1, 1）. Furthermore, the variance of the ESD for such an interval is proved to be （πn）^-2 logn asymptotically which surprisingly enough, does not depend on the details （e.g. length or location） of the interval, This property allows us to determine completely the covariance function between the values of the ESD on two intervals.     

On the Norm of a Self-Adjoint Operator and a New Bilinear Integral Inequality

In this paper, the expression of the norm of a self-adjoint integral operator T ： L^2（0, ∞） → L^2 （0, ∞） is obtained. As applications, a new bilinear integral inequality with a best constant factor is established and some particular cases are considered.

On the Distribution of Sums of Independent Exponential Random Variables Via Wilks’ Integral Representation

In this note we consider an alternative approach to compute the distribution of the sum of independent exponential random variables. In particular, by considering the logarithmic relation between exponential and beta distribution functions and by considering the Wilks’ integral representation for the product of independent beta random variables, we provide a closed-form expression for the distribution of the sum of independent exponential random variables. The expression we obtain is simpler than the ones previously obtained in the literature.

Positive and Nontrivial Solutions for the Urysohn Integral Equation

We establish new criteria for the existence of either positive or nonzero solutions of the Urysohn integral equation. We also discuss the existence of an interval of positive eigenvalues and sufficient conditions for the existence of at least a positive eigenvalue with a nonzero or positive eigenfunction for the Urysohn integral operator. Among others, we employ techniques based on fixed point index theory for compact maps, which are new for this type of equation.     

On the action of the Iwahori–Hecke algebra on modular invariants

We compute the action of the modular Iwahori–Hecke algebra on the ring of invariants of the mod p cohomology of elementary p-groups under Borel subgroup of the general linear group. Applications include a direct proof of the structure of the universal Steenrod algebra and a new proof of a key result on the structure of the Takayasu modules.

On the Approximation of Riemann–Liouville Integral by Fractional Nabla h-Sum and Applications

First of all, in this paper, we prove the convergence of the nabla h-sum to the Riemann–Liouville integral in the space of continuous functions and in some weighted spaces of continuous functions. The connection with time scales convergence is discussed. Second, the efficiency of this approximation is shown through some Cauchy fractional problems with singularity at the initial value. The fractional Brusselator system is solved as a practical case.     

On the Uniformity of Distribution of the Naor–Reingold Pseudo-Random Function

We show that the new pseudo-random number function, introduced recently by M. Naor and O. Reingold, possesses one more attractive and useful property. Namely, it is proved that for almost all values of parameters it produces a uniformly distributed sequence.
