Stokes dynamics in stimulated Brillouin scattering generated in optical fibers is analyzed over a wide range of nonlinear refractive indices under a no feedback condition. The Stokes fluctuation becomes complicated as the nonlinear refractive index increases. Chaotic behavior appears without external feedback at a large nonlinear refractive index of 1×10-19 m2/V2 with pump power larger than 0.3 W.  相似文献

Nonlinear dynamics in optical fiber ring resonators (OFRRs) can be applied to the estimation of the nonlinear refractive index of optical fibers. The output power of the OFRR becomes convergent, periodic, and chaotic with an increase in the input power. In this study, the dependence of the output power on the nonlinear refractive index is analyzed numerically. The critical input power at which the convergent state changes to the periodic state decreases smaller as the nonlinear refractive index increases. In addition, the maximum oscillation width of the output power decreases monotonically with the nonlinear refractive index. These dependences are sensitive to the parameters of the OFRR. The estimation of the nonlinear refractive index can be realized effectively using the maximum or minimum critical input power, and the maximum oscillation width of the output power even under a subtle fluctuation in the optical fiber ring length.  相似文献

A large change in the refractive index originating in the transition absorption of erbium ions is induced in an Er3+-doped fiber. It is shown that the Er3+-doped fiber exhibits the nonlinear refractive index of n2=7.4 × 10−15 m2/W, which is 105−106 times larger than that caused by the optical Kerr effect in a usual silica fiber at the pumping, wavelength of 514.5 nm. The large nonlinear refractive index occurred in a fiber directional coupler fabricated with the Er3+-doped fiber optically changes the coupling condition. The coupling ratio changes up to 0.16 by increasing the pumping power up to 0.7 mW.  相似文献

The method to pump the FBG written into an Er3+-doped optical fiber is proposed to decrease or increase the group velocity of a probing pulse based on the fact that a pump-induced process changes the refractive index and dispersion associated with the 4I15/2-4I13/2 transition in Er3+-doped optical fiber. The system equations are derived. The group velocity modification is numerically demonstrated and discussed with the effects of an optical pump power, fiber Bragg grating length, doping concentration of Er3+ ions, and modulation amplitude of the grating.  相似文献

In this work, both the intersubband optical absorption coefficients and the refractive index changes are calculated exactly in a quantum box. Analytical expressions for the linear and nonlinear intersubband absorption coefficients and refractive index changes are obtained by using the compact-density matrix approach. Numerical results are presented for typical GaAs/AlxGa1−x As quantum box system. The linear, third-order nonlinear and total absorption and refractive index changes are investigated as a function of the incident optical intensity and structure parameters such as box-edge length and stoichiometric ratio. Our results show that both the incident optical intensity and the structure parameters have a great effect on the total absorption and refractive index changes.  相似文献

在光纤纤芯中掺入适量GeO2有利于增加纤芯非线性折射率,提高光纤的非线性系数。利用有限元法设计了一种带宽为1.45 μm的宽反常色散掺杂光子晶体光纤,其光纤可以利用低泵浦功率产生任意波长的光孤子。分析结果显示,当脉冲脉宽TFWHM取300 fs时,产生基阶光孤子需要的最高平均泵浦功率为0.001 695 W,而产生五阶光孤子需要的最高平均泵浦功率仅0.042 38 W。  相似文献

对于大功率激光单模光纤远距离传输, 采用传统的受激拉曼散射(SRS)阈值作为注入光纤激光功率值取值过大。本文对单模光纤远距离传输过程中泵浦光和拉曼斯托克斯光(Stokes)光功率随注入光纤激光功率的变化进行仿真与理论分析。根据光纤中SRS产生的机理, 提出以拉曼Stokes光在单模光纤中传输的光功率变化曲线曲率极大值点对应的注入激光功率为限值, 对注入单模光纤光功率限值随着光纤长度变化进行仿真, 通过曲线拟合得出注入单模光纤激光功率限值公式, 并搭建实验系统进行验证。结果表明, 提出的注入单模光纤激光功率限值适用于大功率激光远距离单模光纤传输。  相似文献

利用掺铒光纤环形激光器非线性克尔效应模型,研究抽运功率和非线性系数对激光器输出混沌信号带宽的影响.研究表明:在非线性系数一定的情况下,混沌带宽随着抽运功率的增加先增大后减小;固定抽运功率为01 W,当非线性系数增加到45 W-1km-1时,掺铒光纤激光器输出的混沌带宽达到最大值(153 GHz),非线性系数继续增加,输出混沌的带宽将逐渐减小. 关键词: 克尔效应 掺铒光纤激光器 混沌 带宽  相似文献

A novel method for measuring the nonlinear refractive index of an optical fiber using a spectral ratio between the modulation frequency and a harmonic component in a modulated optical fiber ring resonator (OFRR) is proposed. The spectral ratio between the modulation frequency and the 2nd-harmonics generated by phase-modulation through the OFRR is increased with increasing the input light power and has peaks above 5 W input power, however, the peaks was shifted to the lower input power below 1 W by averaging taken into account of the phase distribution. A experimental setup consisted of an OFRR system and an Ar-laser as a pump light source was used to determine the nonlinear refractive index of an optical fiber. In the experimental results, the peaks of the spectral ratio as a function of the input power was found out at 0.8 W and 0.45 W of the input power corresponding to the input source line at 488.0 nm and 514.5 nm, respectively. The profile was similar to that obtained by the simulation and the nonlinear refractive index of a optical fiber was determined as 1.0 × 10−22 m2/V2 by a relationship between the input power giving the peak and the nonlinear refractive index.  相似文献

We theoretically investigate the dynamics of stimulated Brillouin scattering (SBS) in a short fiber Fabry-Perot resonator with reflection mirrors. The analysis is based on the coherent six-wave model including an optical Kerr effect and the linear cavity detunings for the pump and created Stokes waves are taken into account in the formulation. The instabilities including periodic, quasi-periodic and chaotic oscillations can occur owing to the Kerr effect even if the fiber resonator is so short as to ensure a single longitudinal-mode operation. The threshold power for SBS and the boundary power between the stable and unstable regions are numerically calculated as a function of the amplitude reflectance of mirrors for different cavity detunings. The dynamics of SBS and these two critical powers depend on the amplitude reflectance and the cavity detuning. Although an increase in the mirror reflectance decreases the threshold power for SBS, it may limit the utility of SBS since the stable region is narrow and the output power levels of the pump and Stokes waves are low.  相似文献

A new method of measuring optical nonlinearity for resonant nonlinear optical fibers is proposed. A long-period fiber grating (LPG) pair was used to measure the nonlinear refractive index n(2) of a Yb(3+)/Al (3+) codoped optical fiber, which was spliced between the two LPGs, as the fiber was pumped with a laser diode. The nonlinear refractive index of the Yb(3+)/Al (3+) codoped fiber near 1580 nm depended on the pump power. As the pump power increased, the nonlinear refractive index decreased. At launched pump powers of 2-8 mW, the nonlinear refractive index of the Yb(3+)/Al (3+) codoped fiber near 1580 nm was ~7.5x10(-15)m (2)/W .  相似文献

We demonstrate a nonlinear fiber-optic strain sensor, which uses the shifts of four-wave mixing Stokes and anti-Stokes peaks caused by the strain-induced changes in the structure and refractive index of a microstructured optical fiber. The sensor thus uses the inherent nonlinearity of the fiber and does not require any advanced postprocessing of the fiber. Strain sensitivity of -0.23 pm/με is achieved experimentally and numerical simulations reveal that for the present fiber the sensitivity can be increased to -4.46 pm/με by optimizing the pump wavelength and power.  相似文献

The characteristics of a wavelength tunable vertical cavity surface emitting laser diode (VCSEL) with an external short cavity are analyzed, in which the oscillation wavelength can be changed over several tens of nanometers with a nearly constant optical power by slightly altering the external cavity length. Analysis is based on rate equations for the optical power and carrier density, taking the effect of carrier-induced refractive index change into consideration, together with the study of behaviors of a complex resonator. The reflection coefficient r2 of a laser facet facing the external mirror is shown to affect notably the characteristics of wavelength tuning, optical power and carrier density for a change of the external cavity length. It is also noticed that the wavelength change for this length becomes slower with relatively larger r2 due to an increasing contribution of the effect of carrier-induced refractive index change, within the optical gain spectrum of the laser diode.  相似文献

基于暗脉冲的布里渊时域分析仪系统中泵浦光和探测光的功率较高,相互作用强烈,严重限制了系统的有效传感距离。而现有的系统众多采用利用多段具有不同布里渊散射频率的光纤相互连接延长传感距离的方法,降低每段光纤上的受激布里渊散射效应,延长有效传感距离,但这种方案会增加的系统的复杂度,影响实际应用.本文提出一种简单的暗脉冲光布里渊时域分析仪的结构,可在满足高空间分辨率的条件下,有效的延长系统的传感距离,取代通常的利用多段具有不同布里渊散射频率的光纤相互连接延长传感距离的方法.利用基于光抑制载波的技术,产生具有两个边带的斯托克斯光.斯托克斯光的两个边带和泵浦光相互作用,同时激发布里渊散射增益和衰减效应,在接收端利用两者接收信号的差,可抵消原有暗脉冲泵浦信号中准连续光对传感距离的影响,从而有效地延长系统的传感距离,并利用数值仿真的方法验证了此方法的有效性.  相似文献

We experimentally and numerically demonstrate the chaotic dynamics of the erbium-doped fiber laser with a nonlinear optical loop mirror. When the polarization controllers are fixed at an appropriate orientation, we observe that the fiber laser exhibits a period-doubling route to chaos with increasing the pump power in the experiment and simulation. The numerical simulation shows a good agreement with the experimental results. The results show experimentally and numerically that the chaotic dynamics of the erbium-doped fiber laser is related to the polarization state and the pump power of light in the cavity.  相似文献

近年来,随着分布式光纤传感技术在各大基础设施健康监测领域的广泛应用,人们对能够实现毫米量级精准定位和监测技术的需求日益增长.本文提出了一种基于宽线宽混沌激光的高分辨率分布式光纤测温技术.实验通过改变光反馈混沌源的偏振匹配态和反馈强度等外部参数,产生了–3 dB线宽约为7.5 GHz的宽线宽混沌激光,并在300 m传感光纤实现了空间分辨率为7.05 mm的分布式温度测量.同时,为了抑制光源线宽增加造成的布里渊增益谱恶化,在泵浦路中引入了时间门控技术,其中经脉冲调制后的泵浦光峰值功率提高了约9.5 dB,同时脉冲调制使混沌互相关锁定于脉冲持续时间内,从而布里渊增益谱的信号背景噪声比由约2.28 dB提升为4.55 dB,最终实现了空间分辨率为3.12 mm的分布式温度测量.  相似文献

Stimulated Brillouin scattering (SBS) of a cw-pump in a long optical fiber ring cavity generates for a given gain G, below a critical feedback Rcrit, a backward soliton Stokes pulse at the roundtrip repetition rate, through resonant three-wave interaction between the optical pump wave and backward Stokes wave, and a high frequency (GHz) axial acoustic wave. In Part I, we perform a systematic experimental and numerical exploration of the whole soliton localisation domain for a large set of (GR) parameters, in a polarization-maintaining Brillouin fiber ring laser in the best conditions of stability and coherence, and we confirm the excellent quantitative agreement of the coherent three-wave model and the experiments.  相似文献

The generation of short light pulses (1 ns) in single mode fibers under pumping by wide laser pulses (of a microsecond duration) due to the backward stimulated Brillouin scattering (SBS) is numerically investigated. The influence of the acoustic diffraction is taken into account. The cases of acoustic waveguide and anti-waveguide fibers are considered. For an acoustic anti-waveguide fiber, a dependence of overlap integral S on the acoustic mode number n has a sharp peak in the region of n 100. Computer simulations have demonstrated the energy conversion of the pump wave into short pulses of the signal (Stokes) wave in the case of synchronous pumping. The optimal length of the fiber should be approximately equal to the half-length of the pump pulse. The bypass time of the Stokes pulse of the optimal circuit fiber and the feedback loop must be equal to the repetition period of the pump pulse. An importance of acoustic mode structure of the fiber for the process of forming pulse train in shown. We have found that the acoustic anti-waveguide fibers with a small core (a < 3 m) can be preferable for obtaining the stable train of compressed pulses.  相似文献

Fe2O3 thin films were deposited by Successive Ionic Layer Adsorption and Reaction (SILAR) method onto glass substrates at different cycle numbers to investigate structural, linear and nonlinear optical properties. X-Ray Diffraction (XRD) analysis revealed that the Fe2O3 thin films have a non-crystalline nature. The morphological properties of the films were investigated by Field Emission-Scanning Electron Microscopy (FE-SEM) and the results show that the films’ surfaces are porous. The linear and nonlinear optical parameters were evaluated and analyzed by using transmittance and absorbance measurements. For these measurements, UV–Vis spectroscopy at room temperature was used. The refractive index values were calculated in the range of 1.45–3.23 for visible region (400–700 nm). Obtained results reveal that direct optical band gap changed between 2.62 and 2.68 eV and indirect optical band gap changed between 1.67 and 1.77 eV. Additionally, optical electronegativity, optical dielectric constants, surface and volume energy loss functions, nonlinear refractive index, linear optical susceptibility, third-order nonlinear optical susceptibility, optical and electrical conductivity, and loss tangent values were calculated and discussed in detail. It was found that each parameter studied is dependent on the cycle numbers. Also, it can be stated that Fe2O3 thin films are promising candidate for solar cells and optoelectronic device technology.  相似文献
