We investigated waveguides in acoustic band-gap materials consisting of steel cylinders in a liquid with viscous damping. Numerical results show that when the viscous penetration depth is comparable to the structural length scale, linear defect states fall in complete acoustic band gaps forming waveguides. It is also found that the magnitude of the viscosity in the liquid has an influence on the frequency of waveguides, that large viscous damping can make the defect modes ascend. An expected frequency of waveguides can be obtained by modulating the viscous damping parameter θ.  相似文献

The elastic coupling between the a-SiO2 spheres composing opal films brings forth three-dimensional periodic structures which besides a photonic stop band are predicted to also exhibit complete phononic band gaps. The influence of elastic crystal vibrations on the photonic band structure has been studied by injection of coherent hypersonic wave packets generated in a metal transducer by subpicosecond laser pulses. These studies show that light with energies close to the photonic band gap can be efficiently modulated by hypersonic waves.  相似文献

Theoretical analysis of sound wave propagation in structures indicates considerable amplitude reduction during transmission through a bent joint, while some build-up can be observed in front of the bend. Every type of transmitted wave (longitudinal and flexural in plane frames) is found to combine with other forms of sound propagation as a result of the deflection of the axis of the wave guide. The screening effect of the bend, in solids with arbitrary viscoelastic properties, is evident even under highly simplified assumptions, such as compatibility and equilibrium. By solving several practical problems, the attenuation due to folding of the structure is compared to the damping effect of the material, with the conclusion that the former contribution is the larger of the two. A pair of examples of insulation analysis of structures is worked out, and the results yield the particle velocity—the first step in determining the radiation pattern. The influence of dense columns in walls, of beams in plates, and of coupling effects in bent structures are examined.  相似文献

We demonstrate 25% all-optical modulation with <20 photons, i.e., a few attojoules of energy, using nondegenerate two-photon absorption in rubidium atoms confined to a hollow-core photonic band-gap fiber. An attenuation of up to 3 dB is induced on an optical field with a switching energy density of less than one photon per (λ(2)/2π). We show that the temporal response of the system is determined by the 5-ns transit time of the atoms across the optical mode of the fiber, which results in a modulation bandwidth up to 50 MHz.  相似文献

The paper presents recent results of the research on strain solitary wave (soliton) evolution in elastic wave guides with different types of inhomogeneities. We analyze in calculations, numerical simulations and in experiments how physical or geometrical inhomogeneities affect the parameters of a density soliton propagating in it. In our experiments strain solitons are produced in a wave guide from an initial shock wave generated in the surrounding water by laser evaporation of a metallic target immersed into it nearby the input edge of the wave guide. Strain solitons are recorded in a desired part of the wave guide by means of holographic interferometry that allows to visualize the whole process and to obtain the complete set of data at different stages of the wave evolution.  相似文献

We report the use of low dielectric constant materials to form two-dimensional microwave band-gap structures for achieving high gap-to-midgap ratio. The variable parameters chosen are the lattice spacing and the geometric structure. The selected geometries are square and triangular and the materials chosen are PTFE (ε = 2.1), PVC (ε = 2.38) and glass (ε = 5.5). Using the plane-wave expansion method, proper lattice spacing is selected for each structure and material. Recently developed continuum mixture theories are extended to study the propagation of horizontally polarized shear waves in a trilaminated wave guide. A specific composite model is considered which resembles the case in which one of the materials acts as a bonding agent for the other two materials. Dispersion relations are derived and compared with exact predictions. Good correlation is shown for significant frequency ranges, especially for the lowest two modes.  相似文献

When a magnetic fluid is subjected to a magnetic field, a part of the magnetic particles in the fluid agglomerates to form chains. Thus, the ferrofluid becomes optically anisotropic. In this work we describe optically observed patterns in some magnetic fluid films in applied parallel magnetic fields and optical effects of these, especially the optical transmittance. The most interesting experimental observation is that concerning the time dependence of relative transmittivity . For kerosene base ferrofluids relax rapidly at coupling and decoupling magnetic field, but for a transformer-oil magnetic fluid the relaxation times can attain (5–10) minutes, depending on the intensity of applied magnetic field.  相似文献

An integral conservation law for wave numbers is considered. In order to test the validity of the proposed conservation law, a complete solution for the reflection and transmission of an acoustic wave impinging normally on a material interface moving at a constant speed is derived. The agreement between the frequency condition thus deduced from the dynamic equations of motion and the frequency condition derived from the jump condition associated with the integral equation supports the proposed law as a true conservation law. Additional comparisons such as amplitude discontinuities and Snells' law in a moving media further confirm the stated proposition. Results are stated concerning frequency and wave number relations across a shock front as predicted by the proposed conservation law.  相似文献

We have generated a frequency-modulated laser beam by use of cross-phase modulation between orthogonally polarized beams in a polarization-preserving optical fiber. This frequency modulation is based on the temporal intensity beating of the drive beam that is caused by another beam that has a slightly different wavelength. Moreover, we have demonstrated generation of a special frequency-modulated laser beam with temporally changing modulation frequency by use of cross-phase modulation in conjugation with self-phase modulation.  相似文献

Possible variational principles for excitation of an electromagnetic field in a wave guide are discussed. Our emphasis is not on the calculation of the modal shapes, which is common in previous art, but rather on the calculation of modal amplitude evolution, which are important in electron devices such as free electron lasers and gyrotrons. Variational principles have considerable importance in theoretical physics and are used among other things to derive numerical solution schemes, conservation laws via the Noether theorem and correct boundary conditions for the derived equations including the important effects of the backward waves amplitudes.  相似文献

The effect of the application of an ac external electromagnetic field to a long Josephson junction is studied by analyzing the spectrum of the radiation emitted by the junction. In the absence of the external field the junction, biased on a dc current singularity of the current-voltage characteristic, emits radiation at a frequency ƒ0 in the X-band of the microwaves. The application of an external ac field having a frequency ƒm of the order of several megahertz gives rise to the appearance of spectral components at frequencies ƒ0±nƒm, with n integer. 运用直线法对含有不同参数支撑介质的平面型电磁带隙(EBG)结构进行了分析.概述了算法的实现过程,使用周期边界条件隔离出一个结构单元作为计算区域,并利用直线法得到了位函数在各层介质界面间的传输方程.通过联立场分量与位函数的变换关系和界面处切向场分量的连续性条件,建立了本征方程, 得到了表征该EBG 结构表面波带隙的本征模频带图.同时,使用该方法对含有不同介电常数、不同厚度支撑介质的表面波带隙进行了计算.通过对计算结果的分析,得到了支撑介质对平面型EBG 结构带隙特性影响的六条结论,为平面型EBG 结构的设计 关键词: 超媒质 光子带隙 周期结构 表面波  相似文献

We present the principle of optical frequency modulation via the Doppler effect obtained by rapidly stretching an optical fiber and thus modifying the optical path of the light propagating in the fiber. This procedure creates a pure frequency shift, with no degradation of the spectrum. Moreover, the effect is wavelength independent and can therefore be applied to any type of light source. We show an experimental realization in which a frequency excursion of ~100 MHz was obtained with a bobbin vibrating at 180 Hz.  相似文献
