In the biased guest-host photorefractive polymer, the Manakov equations can be used to describe the optical soliton propagation and interaction. Hereby for such equations, via the Hirota method and symbolic computation, analytic soliton solutions in the bright-dark and dark-dark forms are obtained. Based on the choice of photorefractive polymer parameter and incident-optical-beam parameter, the bright-dark and dark-dark solitons as well as their interaction can occur in the polymer when the total intensity is much lower than the background illumination, and our analysis indicates that the incident light with different polarization directions influence little on the soliton propagation. γ, representing the soliton intensity far away from the soliton center, determines the appearance of bright or dark soliton under the background illumination. Through the graphic and asymptotic analysis on the two-soliton solutions along with the different γ, we find that there exist the elastic and inelastic interactions between the bright-dark solitons, while the interactions between the dark-dark solitons are always elastic.  相似文献

The coupled equations for the incoherently coupled soliton pairs in biased photorefractive polymer are provided. It is shown that the coupled soliton equations reduce to Manakov equations when the total intensity of two coupled solitons is much lower than the background illumination. The bright-bright, dark-dark, and grey-grey soliton pair solutions of these Manakov equations are obtained, and the characteristics of these Manakov solitons are also discussed.  相似文献

This paper predicts that bright-dark self-coupled vector solitons are possible in biased two-photon photovoltaic photorefractive crystals under steady-state conditions. The solutions of these vector solitons can be determined by use of simple numerical integration procedures. When the photovoltaic effect is neglectable, these vector solitons are bright-dark vector screening solitons. When the external bias field is absent, these vector solitons degenerate the bright-dark vector photovoltaic solitons.  相似文献

We present a theoretical study on incoherently coupled soliton pairs in two-photon centrosymmetric photorefractive crystals under steady-state conditions. It is shown that the bright-bright, dark-dark and bright-dark Manakov soliton pairs can be generated in two-photon centrosymmetric photorefractive crystals when the total intensity of two soliton components is much lower than the dark irradiance.  相似文献

The exact solutions for two color, Manakov vector solitons in strongly nonlocal media are obtained. For such solitons to exist, the ratio of the square of the beam widths must be inversely proportional to the ratio of the wave numbers. The sum of the incident powers must also be equal to a critical value. The evolution of the beam widths is also discussed when the two-color, Manakov vector solitons undergo periodic oscillations.  相似文献

Bright and bright-dark type multisoliton solutions of the integrable N-coupled nonlinear Schrödinger (CNLS) equations with focusing, defocusing and mixed type nonlinearities are obtained by using Hirota’s bilinearization method. Particularly, for the bright soliton case, we present the Gram type determinant form of the n-soliton solution (n:arbitrary) for both focusing and mixed type nonlinearities and explicitly prove that the determinant form indeed satisfies the corresponding bilinear equations. Based on this, we also write down the multisoliton form for the mixed (bright-dark) type solitons. For the focusing and mixed type nonlinearities with vanishing boundary conditions the pure bright solitons exhibit different kinds of nontrivial shape changing/energy sharing collisions characterized by intensity redistribution, amplitude dependent phase-shift and change in relative separation distances. Due to nonvanishing boundary conditions the mixed N-CNLS system can admit coupled bright-dark solitons. Here we show that the bright solitons exhibit nontrivial energy sharing collision only if they are spread up in two or more components, while the dark solitons appearing in the remaining components undergo mere standard elastic collisions. Energy sharing collisions lead to exciting applications such as collision based optical computing and soliton amplification. Finally, we briefly discuss the energy sharing collision properties of the solitons of the (2+1) dimensional long wave-short wave resonance interaction (LSRI) system.  相似文献

We show that bright-dark vector solitons are possible in biased two-photon photorefractive crystals under steady-state conditions. The analytical solutions of these vector solitons can be obtained if the intensities of the two vector components are approximately equal. When the intensities of the two vector components differ, the vector soliton pair solutions can be determined using simple numerical integration procedures. The effect of polarization mode dispersion (PMD) on Manakov solitons and dispersion managed solitons is treated analytically and by numerical simulation. In the analytic approach the internal motion of the Manakov soliton is represented as a damped harmonic oscillator. The PMD functions as a white noise source driving the oscillations. It is shown that the solitons can withstand PMD up to a certain instability threshold for which an analytic expression is obtained. This threshold is also evaluated for dispersion managed solitons. It is shown theoretically that the dark–dark, bright–bright and dark–bright Manakov soliton pairs can exist in biased photorefractive materials with both the linear and quadratic electro-optic effect under steady-state conditions. These soliton pairs can be generated provided that the total intensity of the two mutually inherent, with the same wavelength optical beams is much lower than the sum of the background intensity and the dark irradiance. It is also found that the intensity full width at half maximum of these Manakov solitons is inversely proportional to the square root of a quadratic polynomial of the external bias field. Moreover, the linear and quadratic electro-optic effects can be enhanced, decreased, even offset under appropriate conditions.  相似文献

We present experimental results on one-dimensional (1-D) spatial solitons in AlGaAs waveguides. Three distinct types of spatial solitons have been observed: namely the fundamental soliton, the Manakov soliton, and the vector soliton. The fundamental soliton is the simplest form of 1-D soliton which consists of a single polarization. The properties of waveguiding and ‘robustness’ are experimentally studied. Vector solitons which result from the complex interplay between the two orthogonally polarized beams due to self-phase modulation, cross-phase modulation, and four-wave mixing effects are studied. The complex beam dynamics and polarization behaviour of the vector solitons are experimentally studied. Manakov solitons which are a special case of the vector soliton exist when the ratio between the self-to-cross-phase modulation is one and the four-wave mixing effects becomes zero are demonstrated experimentally and the basic properties discussed. Finally, some soliton interactions such as trapping and dragging are reported and possible applications of soliton interactions are discussed.  相似文献

Analytical expressions are presented for Manakov solitons perturbed by polarization mode dispersion (PMD). Comparison is made with computer simulations. Dispersion-managed solitons are also studied. It is concluded that at high bit rates solitons are superior to linear return-to-zero propagation with regard to PMD.  相似文献

The authors show the formation of slow temporal vector optical solitons in a cold lifetime-broadened four-level inverted-Y atomic system. We demonstrate that Maxwell’s equations for describing two orthogonally polarised components of a low intensity signal field can evolve into two coupled nonlinear Schr?dinger equations, which results in various distortion-free temporal vector optical solitons, such as bright-bright or dark-dark vector solitons. These results are produced from the correct balance between dispersion, self- and cross-phase modulation (SPM and XPM) effects. We also show that the integrable Manakov model can be realised by adjusting the corresponding SPM, XPM and dispersion effects of this inverted-Y atomic system.  相似文献

为了得到闭路光折变有机聚合物中存在非相干耦合亮-暗光伏空间孤子对,采用数值模拟的方法,对稳态情况下两束互不相干的光束,在闭路光伏光折变有机聚合物中的传播进行了研究。结果表明,具有相同偏振和相同波长的两束互不相干的光束,可在光伏光折变有机聚合物中形成非相干耦合亮-暗光伏孤子对。在给定适当参量或扰动不太大的情况下,孤子对中的亮孤子和暗孤子都能在光伏光折变有机聚合物中稳定传播。研究结果可为光折变有机聚合物空间孤子理论的发展提供理论依据。  相似文献

The general bright-dark mixed N-soliton solution of the two-dimensional Maccari system is obtained with the KP hierarchy reduction method. The dynamics of single and two solitons are discussed in detail. Asymptotic analysis shows that two solitons undergo elastic collision accompanied by a position shift. Furthermore, our analysis on mixed soliton bound states shows that arbitrary higher-order soliton bound states can take place.  相似文献

It is shown theoretically that three types of separate soliton pairs: bright-bright, bright-dark, and dark-dark, can be established in a biased series circuit consisting of two centrosymmetric photorefractive crystals and the two solitons in a separate soliton pair can affect each other by the light-induced current. Coupled nonlinear Schrödinger equations (CNLS) very often represent wave propagation in optical media such as multicore fibers, photorefractive materials and so on. We consider specifically the pulse propagation in integrable CNLS equations (generalized Manakov systems). We point out that these systems possess novel exact soliton type pulses which are shape changing under collision leading to an intensity redistribution. The shape changes correspond to linear fractional transformations allowing for the possibility of construction of logic gates and Turing equivalent all optical computers in homogeneous bulk media as shown by Steiglitz recently. Special cases of such solitons correspond to the recently much discussed partially coherent stationary solitons (PCS). In this paper, we review critically the recent developments regarding the above properties with particular reference to 2-CNLS.  相似文献

The vector-coupled nonlinear Schrödinger equation, which can be applied to describe the propagation of Thirring optical solitons in birefringent ?bers with Kerr law nonlinearity, detuning, intermodal dispersion and spatiotemporal dispersion, has been studied analytically.
