We theoretically demonstrate that an electrically tunable polarizer can be obtained using a periodic array of graphene ribbons supported on a dielectric film on top of a thick piece of metal. The polarizing mechanism originates from anisotropic absorption of the graphene ribbons. The results of fullwave numerical simulations reveal that absorption of 0.0075 for one polarization and 0.9986 for another polarization can be obtained at normal incidence in the THz range. For circular incidence polarization, the corresponding polarizing extinction ratio increases to 65 dB.  相似文献

A new method for implementing graphene ribbons using selective graphene growth on metal-sidewall by chemical vapor deposition has been proposed. In this method, Ni catalyst is pre-patterned before chemical vapor deposition, and graphene film is selectively grown on the sidewall of the nickel for graphene ribbons. The graphene ribbons were confirmed by TEM image and Raman spectroscopy, and the fabricated graphene ribbon transistors showed well gate-modulated output characteristics. We believe this sidewall-graphene could be useful for applications such as graphene sensors which require high surface area of graphene.  相似文献

This study uses the tight-binding model to examine the ballistic transport of short and infinitely long bilayer nano-graphite ribbons for different stacked structures, AA and AB, under perpendicularly applied gate and magnetic fields. In the small bias region, the conduction of the AB-stacked ribbon is better than for the AA. Under a gate field with small bias, the AB-stacked ribbon exhibits a significant current peak at the zero gate field point, similar to the graphene ribbon. On the contrary, this current peak is not found in the AA-stacked case. Under a perpendicular magnetic field with small bias, the magnetoresistance ratio in both stacked graphene ribbons are proportional to the square of the magnetic field.  相似文献

A polarization diversity receiver scheme is presented for improving efficiency of balance homodyne detection. The proposed scheme may mitigate polarization fluctuation between signal and local oscillator field. With simple linear optical component and electronic processing circuit, the noise caused by differential phase and polarization mode between signed and local oscillators may be significantly decreased. To track the polarization fluctuation, a novel algorithm based on polarization diversity receiver which can achieve better performance in terms of linear quantum optics principle is proposed.  相似文献

The polarization‐independent enhanced absorption effect of graphene in the near‐infrared range is investigated. This is achieved by placing a graphene square array on top of a dielectric square array backed by a two‐dimensional multilayer grating. Total optical absorption in graphene can be attributed to critical coupling, which is achieved through the combined effect of guided‐mode resonance with the dielectric square array and the photonic band gap with the two‐dimensional multilayer grating. To reveal the physical origin of such a phenomenon, the electromagnetic field distributions for both polarizations are illustrated. The designed graphene absorber exhibits near‐unity polarization‐independent absorption at resonance with an ultra‐narrow spectrum. Moreover, the polarization‐independent absorption can be tuned simply by changing the geometric parameters. The results may have promising potential for the design of graphene‐based optoelectronic devices.  相似文献

A single evolution equation is established to treat the mechanisms of fluorescence and the laser effect, using a mixed representation, classical for the electromagnetic field and quantum for the dipoles. The model approach takes advantage of the principle of conservation of energy for the system of electromagnetic field and dynamic dipole. A resulting nonlinear differential equation is derived and is shown to sustain two fixed points associated with fluorescence and laser emission. The existence of a pumping threshold is confirmed for the laser effect. In particular the pumping rate determines whether light will be emitted by fluorescence or by the laser effect, and there is no pumping that engenders fluorescence and laser emission simultaneously. The initial physical conditions, chosen to integrate the evolution equation in time, assume a nonvanishing electric polarization of the emitting dipole rather than a nonvanishing electromagnetic field. The distribution function accounting for the thermal fluctuations of the random initial polarization is also calculated.  相似文献

An interaction mechanism between graphene and magnetic film in cavity is presented in this work. The pseudospin in graphene can indirectly interact with the spins in magnetic film by the media of a circularly polarized photons under the conditions of high temperature and intense laser field. The interaction energy as well as the average values of pseudospin and spin components are calculated according to a generating functional approach. This interaction mechanism provides a scheme of detecting the pseudospin polarization effect.  相似文献

An original mathematical model of the interaction of terahertz (THz) electromagnetic waves with periodic gratings of graphene micro- and nanoribbons is based on the solution to the boundary-value problem of diffraction for the Maxwell equations with electrodynamic boundary conditions and material equations. The electrodynamic calculations of the transmission coefficients of the TEM wave versus frequency are performed for the 2D grating of graphene micro- and nanoribbons at several chemical potentials, grating periods, and geometrical sizes of ribbons. The results of the calculations show that the transmission spectrum exhibits a minimum in the THz range if the electric field of the wave is perpendicular to the graphene ribbons. The minimum is due to the plasmon resonance of the fundamental mode in graphene, and the absorption peaks at higher frequencies in the upper part of the THz range are related to the highorder plasmon modes.  相似文献

We propose a terahertz hybrid metamaterial composed of subwavelength metallic slits and graphene plasmonic ribbons for sensing application. This special design can cause the interaction between the plasmon resonances of the metallic slits and graphene ribbons, giving rise to a strong coupling effect and Rabi splitting. Intricate balancing in the strong coupling region can be perturbed by the carrier concentration of graphene, which is subject to the analyte on its surface. Thereby, the detection of analyte can be reflected as a frequency shift of resonance in terahertz transmission spectra. The result shows that this sensor can achieve a theoretical detection limit of 325 electrons or holes per square micrometer. Meanwhile, it also works well as a refractive index sensor with the frequency sensitivity of 485 GHz/RIU. Our results may contribute to design of ultra-micro terahertz sensors.  相似文献

Vector soliton operation of erbium-doped fiber lasers mode locked with atomic layer graphene was experimentally investigated. Either the polarization rotation or polarization locked vector dissipative solitons were experimentally obtained in a dispersion-managed cavity fiber laser with large net cavity dispersion, while in the anomalous dispersion cavity fiber laser, the phase locked nonlinear Schrödinger equation (NLSE) solitons and induced NLSE soliton were experimentally observed. The vector soliton operation of the fiber lasers unambiguously confirms the polarization insensitive saturable absorption of the atomic layer graphene when the light is incident perpendicular to its 2-dimentional (2D) atomic layer.  相似文献

We investigate theoretically the transmission of electrons through a pair of δ-function magnetic barriers in graphene in presence of external monochromatic, linearly polarized and CW laser field. The transmission coefficients are calculated in the framework of non-perturbative Floquet theory using the transfer matrix method. It is noted that the usual Fabry–Perot oscillations in transmission through the graphene magnetic barriers with larger inter barrier separation takes the shape of beating oscillations in presence of the external laser field. The laser assisted transmission spectra are also found to exhibit the characteristic Fano resonances (FR) for smaller values of the inter barrier separation. The appearance of the perfect node in the beating oscillation and the asymmetric Fano line shape can be controlled by varying the intensity of the laser field. The above features could provide some useful and potential information about the light - matter interactions and may be utilized in the graphene based optoelectronic device applications.  相似文献

It is shown that a graphene ribbon, a ballistic strip of carbon monolayer, may serve as a quantum wire whose electronic properties can be continuously and reversibly controlled by an externally applied transverse voltage. The electron bands of armchair-edge ribbons undergo dramatic transformations: The Fermi surface fractures, Fermi velocity and effective mass change sign, and excitation gaps are reduced by the transverse field. These effects are manifest in the conductance plateaus, van Hove singularities, thermopower, and activated transport. The control over one-dimensional bands may help enhance effects of electron correlations, and be utilized in device applications.  相似文献

采用分子动力学模拟方法研究了graphene条带上生长硅纳米结构的过程,分析了不同温度下硅原子在graphene条带边沿生成的新型纳米结构.研究表明,随机分布的硅原子吸附到锯齿型graphene条带边沿在不同的温度T下可生成不同类型的硅纳米结构:300K≤T<2000K时形成无规则的团簇,2000K≤T≤2800K时形成单原子链结构,2800K<T<3900K时形成含缺陷的硅链结构,T≥3900K时硅原子逐渐替代条带边沿的碳原子直至graphene条带破坏.而硅原子吸附到扶手椅型graphene条带边沿在300K≤T<3000 K内仅能形成非链状的不定型的硅纳米结构. 关键词: graphene 硅 纳米结构 分子动力学模拟  相似文献

We investigate the neutron polarization induced by interfering pseudospins between two graphene sheets inserted into a cavity with a circularly polarized photon field. We find that only when two graphene sheets are located at the coordinate positions of some antinodes of standing photon field, the neutron polarization is most remarkable. This is caused by an interference effect of pseudospins between two graphene sheets induced by photons and neutron. This neutron polarization mechanism has potential application on neutron polarization device.  相似文献

We investigate the influence of edge chirality on the electronic transport in clean or disordered graphene ribbon junctions. By using the tight-binding model and the Landauer-Büttiker formalism, the junction conductance is obtained. In the clean sample, the zero-magnetic-field junction conductance is strongly chirality-dependent in both unipolar and bipolar ribbons, whereas the high-magnetic-field conductance is either chirality-independent in the unipolar or chirality-dependent in the bipolar ribbon. Furthermore, we study the disordered sample in the presence of magnetic field and find that the junction conductance is always chirality-insensitive for both unipolar and bipolar ribbons with adequate disorders. In addition, the disorder-induced conductance plateaus can exist in all chiral bipolar ribbons provided the disorder strength is moderate. These results suggest that we can neglect the effect of edge chirality in fabricating electronic devices based on the magnetotransport in a disordered graphene ribbon.  相似文献

The effects of an anomalous biaxiality and a residual-stress field in basal-plane-faceted single-crystal sapphire ribbons were studied by an optical polarization method using a conoscopic light beam. Formulas that relate the difference between the principal stresses to the angle of optical-axis divergence are obtained. It is shown that the central regions of the ribbons undergo compressive stresses whereas their edges undergo tensile stresses. As compared to block-free ribbons, the stresses in block-containing ribbons increase more intensely with distance from the seed.  相似文献

通过建立石墨烯的光学布洛赫方程, 研究了弱光场下的单层石墨烯超快动态光学性质. 理论研究表明在太赫兹辐射光场下由于泡利不相容和能量守恒原理使得石墨烯系统建立动态非平衡载流子并达到饱和的时间是20–200 fs, 能够在1 ps之内迅速产生光电流. 研究发现√2evF E0 t<0 和ω 分别对应入射光的强度和频率, t为时间, vF是石墨烯狄拉克点附近电子的费米速度. 研究发现光子能量?ω越大, 电极化强度以及光电流越强. 我们的理论研究结果与已有的众多实验结果一致, 表明石墨烯在超快动态光学领域尤其是太赫兹领域拥有重要的研究和应用价值.  相似文献

An interesting transition between low spatial frequency laser-induced periodic surface structure(LIPSS) and high spatial frequency LIPSS(HSFL) on the surface of nickel is revealed by changing the scanning speed and the laser fluence. The experimental results show the proportion of HSFL area in the overall LIPSS(i.e., K) presents a quasi-parabola function trend with the polarization orientation under a femtosecond(fs) laser single-pulse train.Moreover, an obvious fluctuation dependence of K on the pulse delay is observed under a fs laser dual-pulse train.The peak value of the fluctuation is found to be determined by the polarization orientation of the dual-pulse train.  相似文献
