The paper studies unbounded reflexive *-derivations δ of C*-algebras of bounded operators on Hilbert spaces H whose domains D(δ) are weekly dense in B(H and contain compact operators. It describes a one-to-one correspondence between these derivations and pairs S,L, where S are symmetric densely operators on H and L are J-orthogonal π-reflexive lattices of subspaces in the deficiency spaces of S. The domains D(δ) of these *-derivations are associated with some non-selfadjoint reflexive algebras Aδ of bounded operators on HH. The paper analyzes the structure of the lattices of invariant subspaces of Aδ and of the normalizers of Aδ-the largest Lie subalgebras of B(HH) such that Aδ are their Lie ideals.  相似文献

Let K be a real but not totally real field of degree three over Q, and let A be an ideal in K. It is proved that the reduced numbers in A (i.e., numbers α with α > 1 and ?1 < Re α(j) < 0 for all conjugates α(j)α) are dense in a set of intervals of constant length, and no reduced numbers in A occur in the gaps between these intervals. In fact, the intervals are determined explicitly, and criteria are given for when the reduced numbers in A actually are dense in the whole of [1, ∞).  相似文献

Sufficient conditions are given so that all solutions of the nonlinear differential equation u″ + φ(t, u, u′)u′ + p(t) gf(u) g(u′) = h(t, u, u′) are continuable to the right of an initial t-value t0 ? 0. If K is a proper cone in Rn, then the cone of all linear operators that preserve K, denoted by π(K), forms a semiring under usual operator addition and multiplication. Recently J.G. Horne examined the ideals of this semiring. He proved that if K1, K2 are polyhedral cones such that π(K1) and π(K2) are isomorphic as semirings, then K1 and K2 are linearly isomorphic. The study of this semiring is continued in this paper. In Sec. 3 ideals of π(K) which are also faces are characterized. In Sec. 4 it is shown that π(K) has a unique minimal two-sided ideal, namely, the dual cone of π(K1), where K1 is the dual cone of K. Extending Horne's result, it is also proved that the cone K is characterized by this unique minimal two-sided ideal of π(K). The set of all faces of π(K) inherits a quotient semiring structure from π(K). Properties of this face-semiring are given in Sec. 5. In particular, it is proved that this face-semiring admits no nontrivial congruence relation iff the duality operator of π(K) is injective. In Sec. 6 the maximal one-sided and two-sided ideals of π(K) are identified. In Sec. 8 it is shown that π(K) never satisfies the ascending-chain condition on principal one-sided ideals. Some partial results on the question of topological closedness of principal one-sided ideals of π(K) are also given.  相似文献

By the Shepherd-Leedham-Green-McKay theorem on finite p-groups of maximal nilpotency class, if a finite p-group of order p n has nilpotency class n?1, then f has a subgroup of nilpotency class at most 2 with index bounded in terms of p. Some counterexamples to a rank analog of this theorem are constructed that give a negative solution to Problem 16.103 in The Kourovka Notebook. Moreover, it is shown that there are no functions r(p) and l(p) such that any finite 2-generator p-group whose all factors of the lower central series, starting from the second, are cyclic would necessarily have a normal subgroup of derived length at most l(p) with quotient of rank at most r(p). The required examples of finite p-groups are constructed as quotients of torsion-free nilpotent groups which are abstract 2-generator subgroups of torsion-free divisible nilpotent groups that are in the Mal’cev correspondence with “truncated” Witt algebras.  相似文献

We study harmonic sections of a Riemannian vector bundle EM when E is equipped with a 2-parameter family of metrics hp,q which includes both the Sasaki and Cheeger-Gromoll metrics. For every k>0 there exists a unique p such that the harmonic sections of the radius-k sphere subbundle are harmonic sections of E with respect to hp,q for all q. In both compact and non-compact cases, Bernstein regions of the (p,q)-plane are identified, where the only harmonic sections of E with respect to hp,q are parallel. Examples are constructed of vector fields which are harmonic sections of E=TM in the case where M is compact and has non-zero Euler characteristic.  相似文献

We study the diameters of sections of convex bodies in RN determined by a random N×n matrix Γ, either as kernels of Γ* or as images of Γ. Entries of Γ are independent random variables satisfying some boundedness conditions, and typical examples are matrices with Gaussian or Bernoulli random variables. We show that if a symmetric convex body K in RN has one well bounded k-codimensional section, then for any m>ck random sections of K of codimension m are also well bounded, where c?1 is an absolute constant. It is noteworthy that in the Gaussian case, when Γ determines randomness in sense of the Haar measure on the Grassmann manifold, we can take c=1.  相似文献

In this paper, exact number of solutions are obtained for the one-dimensional p-Laplacian in a class of two-point boundary value problems. The interesting point is that the nonlinearity f is general form: f(u)=λg(u)+h(u). Meanwhile, some properties of the solutions are given in details. In the paper a single machine time-dependent scheduling problem is considered. The processing time pj of each job is described by a function of the starting time t of the job, pj=1+αjt, where the job deterioration rate αj?0 for j=0,1,…,n and t?0. Jobs are nonpreemptable and independent, there are no ready times and no deadlines. The criterion of optimality of a schedule is the total completion time.First, the notion of a signature for a given sequence of job deterioration rates is introduced, two types of the signature are defined and their properties are shown. Next, on the basis of these properties a greedy polynomial-time approximation algorithm for the problem is formulated. This algorithm, starting from an initial sequence, iteratively constructs a new sequence concatenating the previous sequence with new elements, according to the sign of one of the signatures of this sequence.Finally, these results are applied to the problem with job deterioration rates which are consecutive natural numbers, αj=j for j=0,1,…,n. Arguments supporting the conjecture that in this case the greedy algorithm is optimal are presented.  相似文献

Let D be a quasi-symmetric design with block intersection numbers 0 and y. For any fixed block B of D, let DB denote the incidence structure whose points are the points of D not in B and whose blocks are the blocks of D disjoint from B. If D is an extension of a symmetric design, Cameron showed that DB is a design and the parameters of D are exactly one of four types. A nested orthogonal array is an OA(N,k,s,g) which contains an OA(M,k,r,g) as a subarray. Here r<s and M<N. Necessary conditions for the existence of such arrays are obtained in the form of upper bounds on k, given N, M, s, r and g. Examples are given to show that these bounds are quite powerful in proving nonexistence. The link with incomplete orthogonal arrays is also indicated.  相似文献

Let M(A) denote the comparison matrix of a square H-matrix A, that is, M(A) is an M-matrix. H-matrices such that their comparison matrices are nonsingular are well studied in the literature. In this paper, we study characterizations of H-matrices with either singular or nonsingular comparison matrices. The spectral radius of the Jacobi matrix of M(A) and the generalized diagonal dominance property are used in the characterizations. Finally, a classification of the set of general H-matrices is obtained.  相似文献

Upper and lower bounds are given for the genus, γ(G1 × G2), of the Cartesian product of arbitrary graphs G1 and G2, in terms of the genera γ(G1) and γ(G2). These bounds are then used to obtain asymptotic results for the cases in which G1 and G2 are both regular complete k-partite graphs.  相似文献

Let P be an n-dimensional, q?1 neighborly simple convex polytope and let M2n(λ) be the corresponding quasitoric manifold. The manifold depends on a particular map of lattices λ:ZmZn where m is the number of facets of P. In this note we use ESP-sequences in the sense of Larry Smith to show that the higher derived functors of the primitive element functor are independent of λ. Coupling this with results that appear in Bousfield (1970) [3] we are able to enrich the library of nice homology coalgebras by showing that certain families of quasitoric manifolds are nice, at least rationally, from Bousfield?s perspective.  相似文献

Enumeration of arrays whose row and column sums are specified have been studied by a number of people. It has been determined that the function that enumerates square arrays of dimension n, whose rows and columns sum to a fixed non-negative integer r, is a polynomial in r of degree (n ? 1)2.In this paper we consider rectangular arrays whose rows sum to a fixed non-negative integer r and whose columns sum to a fixed non-negative integer s, determined by ns = mr. in particular, we show that the functions which enumerate 2 × n and 3 × n arrays with fixed row sums nr(2, n) and nr(3, n), where the symbol (a, b) denotes the greatest common divisor of a and b, and fixed column sums, are polynomials in r of degrees (n ? 1) and 2(n ? 1) respectively. We have found simple formulas to evaluate these polynomials for negative values, - r, and we show that for certain small negative integers our polynomials will always be zero. We also considered the generating functions of these polynomials and show that they are rational functions of degrees less than zero, whose denominators are of the forms (1 ? y)n and (1 ? y)2n?1 respectively and whose numerators are polynomials in y whose coefficients satisfy certain properties. In the last section we list the actual polynomials and generating functions in the 2 × n and 3 × n cases for small specific values of n.  相似文献

Let f 1,…,f h be h≥2 germs of biholomorphisms of ? n fixing the origin. We investigate the shape that a (formal) simultaneous linearization of the given germs can have, and we prove that if f 1,…,f h commute and their linear parts are almost simultaneously Jordanizable, then they are simultaneously formally linearizable. We next introduce a simultaneous Brjuno-type condition and prove that, in case the linear terms of the germs are diagonalizable, if the germs commute and our Brjuno-type condition holds, then they are holomorphically simultaneously linearizable. This answers a multi-dimensional version of a problem raised by Moser.  相似文献

Let G(n,k) be a graph whose vertices are the k-element subsets of an n-set represented as n-tuples of “O's” and “1's” with k “1's”. Two such subsets are adjacent if one can be obtained from the other by switching a “O” and a “1” which are in adjacent positions, where the first and nth positions are also considered adjacent. The problem of finding hamiltonian cycles in G(n,k) is discussed. This may be considered a problem of finding “Gray codes” of the k-element subsets of an n-set. It is shown that no such cycle exists if n and k are both even or if k=2 and n?7 and that such a cycle does exist in all other cases where k?5.  相似文献

A map φ:XX induces a linear operator T:C(X)→C(X) by composition: Tf(x)=f°φ(x). T and φ are termed weakly almost periodic if the sequence {Tn} is precompact in the weak operator topology. Using general structure theorems for weakly almost periodic operators, the properties of these point maps are studied from the viewpoint of dynamical systems. The structure of individual minimal sets and of the union M of all minimal sets of φ are investigated. One key result is that, if X is compact, then φ is a strongly almost periodic (i.e., has uniformly equicontinuous iterates) homeomorphisms of M and M is a retract of X. These and other general results are applied to the case where X is a manifold. Several results in which weak implies strong almost periodicity are obtained.  相似文献

The Stirling number of the second kind S(n, k) is the number of ways of partitioning a set of n elements into k nonempty subsets. It is well known that the numbers S(n, k) are unimodal in k, and there are at most two consecutive values K n such that (for fixed n) S(n, K n ) is maximal. We determine asymptotic bounds for K n , which are unexpectedly good and improve earlier results. The method used here shows a possible strategy for obtaining numerical bounds such that in almost all cases K n can be uniquely determined.  相似文献
