We show that in the dual of Weak L1 the subspace of all rearrangement invariant continuous linear functionals is lattice isometric to a space L1(μ) and is the linear hull of the maximal elements of the dual unit ball. We also show that the dual of Weak L1 contains a norm closed weak* dense ideal which is lattice isometric to an 1-sum of spaces of type C(K). Helmut H. Schaefer in memoriam

We characterize the surjective isometries of a class of analytic functions on the disk which include the Analytic Besov spaceB p and the Dirichlet spaceD p . In the case ofB p we are able to determine the form of all linear isometries on this space. The isometries for these spaces are finite rank perturbations of integral operators. This is in contrast with the classical results for the Hardy and Bergman spaces where the isometries are represented as weighted compositions induced by inner functions or automorphisms of the disk.

Abstract

Kadec and Pelczýnski have shown that every non-reflexive subspace of L 1 (μ) contains a copy of l 1 complemented in L 1(μ). On the other hand Rosenthal investigated the structure of reflexive subspaces of L 1(μ) and proved that such sub-spaces have non-trivial type. We show the same facts to hold true for a special class of non-reflexive Orlicz spaces. In particular we show that if F is an N-function in δ2 with its complement G satisfying limt→∞ G(ct)/G(t) = ∞, then every non-reflexive subspace of L*F contains a copy of l 1 complemented in L*F. Furthermore we establish the fact that if F is an N-function in δ2 with its complement G satisfying limt→∞ G(ct)/G(t) = ∞, then every reflexive subspace of L*F has non-trivial type.

We study several properties of the Banach lattices Lp (m) and Lpw (m) of p-integrable scalar functions and weakly p-integrable scalar functions with respect to a countably additive vector measure m. The relation between these two spaces plays a fundamental role in our analysis. This research has been partially supported by La Consejería de Educatión y Ciencia de la Junta de Andalucía.

Extensions for Sobolev mappings between manifolds
We consider two compact Riemannian manifoldsM andN, such thatM has a boundary (but notN). We address the extension problem in the Sobolev class, namely, we investigate the question: foru W 1–1/p,pM,N is there a mapV inW 1/p(M,N) such thatV=u on M. Various results are given, and an emphasis is put on the special (simple) caseN=S 1.

In this paper we show that the closure of the space BMOA of analytic functions of bounded mean oscillation in the Bloch spaceB is the image P(U) of space of all continuous functions on the maximal ideal space ofH under the Bergman projection P. It is proved that the radial growth of functions in P(U) is slower than the iterated logarithm studied by Makarov. So some geometric conditions are given for functions in P(U), which we can easily use to construct many Bloch functions not in P(U).

We give necessary conditions and sufficient conditions for sequences of reproducing kernels (kΘ(·, λn))n ≥ 1 to be overcomplete in a given model space KΘp where Θ is an inner function in H, p ∈ (1, ∞), and where (λn)n ≥ 1 is an infinite sequence of pairwise distinct points of Under certain conditions on Θ we obtain an exact characterization of overcompleteness. As a consequence we are able to describe the overcomplete exponential systems in L2 (0, a).

LetC(X,E) andC(Y,F) denote the spaces of continuous functions on the Tihonov spacesX andY, taking values in the Banach spacesE andF, respectively. A linear mapH:C(X,E)C(Y,F) isseparating iff(x)g(x)=0 for allx inX impliesHf(y)Hg(y)=0 for ally inY. Some automatic continuity properties and Banach-Stone type theorems (i.e., asserting that isometries must be of a certain form) for separating mapsH between spaces of real- and complex-valued functions have already been developed. The extension of such results to spaces of vector-valued functions is the general subject of this paper. We prove in Theorem 4.1, for example, for compactX andY, that a linear isometryH betweenC(X,E) andC(Y,F) is a “Banach-Stone” map if and only ifH is “biseparating (i.e,H andH −1 are separating). The Banach-Stone theorems of Jerison and Lau for vector-valued functions are then deduced in Corollaries 4.3 and 4.4 for the cases whenE andF or their topological duals, respectively, are strictly convex. Let K be a compact subset in the complex plane and let A(K) be the uniform closure of the functions continuous on K and analytic on . Let μ be a positive finite measure with its support contained in K. For 1 ≤ q < ∞, let Aq(K, μ) denote the closure of A(K) in Lq(μ). The aim of this work is to study the structure of the space Aq(K, μ). We seek a necessary and sufficient condition on K so that a Thomson-type structure theorem for Aq(K, μ) can be established. Our theorem deduces J. Thomson’s structure theorem for Pq(μ), the closure of polynomials in Lq(μ), as the special case when K is a closed disk containing the support of μ.  相似文献

We prove a representation theorem for Hausdorff locally convex (M)-lattices which are Dedekind σ-complete, and whose topologies are order σ-continuous and monotonically complete. These turn out to be the weighted spaces c0(T, H), defined in the paper for T ≠ and H T+. We also characterize the dual of c0(T, H), as the space l1 (T, H) defined in the last section. The known representation (on c0(T)) of Banach (M)-lattices with order continuous norm follows as a particular case. We obtain these results by first proving a new general isomorphism theorem, which seems to be of independent interest. Our notion of “monotonic topological completeness” is weaker than the usual completeness and seems to be very convenient in the framework of topological ordered vector spaces.

It is proved that a functionuL m,p (R n ) (which coincides with the Sobolev spaceW 1,p (R n ) ifm=1) coincides with a Hölder continuous functionw outside a set of smallm,q-capacity, whereq<p. Moreover, ifm=1, then the functionw can be chosen to be close tou in theW 1,p -norm.

This paper is concerned with sequences inL 1 which converge weakly. Young's measures theory permits us to give sufficient conditions insuring the strong convergence and to understand the behaviour of the sequences which do not converge strongly.

We prove that under the extended Carleson’s condition, a sequence (xn) ? BH is linear interpolating for H(BH) for an infinite dimensional Hilbert space H. In particular, we construct the interpolating functions for each sequence and find a bound for the constant of interpolation.

We use interpolation methods to prove a new version of the limiting case of the Sobolev embedding theorem, which includes the result of Hansson and Brezis-Wainger for W n k/k as a special case. We deal with generalized Sobolev spaces W A k , where instead of requiring the functions and their derivatives to be in Ln/k, they are required to be in a rearrangement invariant space A which belongs to a certain class of spaces “close” to Ln/k. We also show that the embeddings given by our theorem are optimal, i.e., the target spaces into which the above Sobolev spaces are shown to embed cannot be replaced by smaller rearrangement invariant spaces. This slightly sharpens and generalizes an, earlier optimality result obtained by Hansson with respect to the Riesz potential operator. In memory of Gene Fabes. This paper is concerned with numerical integration on the unit sphere Sr of dimension r≥2 in the Euclidean space ℝr+1. We consider the worst-case cubature error, denoted by E(Qm;Hs(Sr)), of an arbitrary m-point cubature rule Qm for functions in the unit ball of the Sobolev space Hs(Sr), where s>, and show that The positive constant cs,r in the estimate depends only on the sphere dimension r≥2 and the index s of the Sobolev space Hs(Sr). This result was previously only known for r=2, in which case the estimate is order optimal. The method of proof is constructive: we construct for each Qm a `bad' function fm, that is, a function which vanishes in all nodes of the cubature rule and for which Our proof uses a packing of the sphere Sr with spherical caps, as well as an interpolation result between Sobolev spaces of different indices.

We study extension of operators T: EL0([0, 1]), where E is an F–function space and L0([0, 1]) the space of measurable functions with the topology of convergence in measure, to domains larger than E, and we study the properties of such domains. The main tool is the integration of scalar functions with respect to stochastic measures and the corresponding spaces of integrable functions. We study integral operators on (−1, 1) with kernels k(x, t) which may have weak singularities in (x, t) with xN1, tN2, or x=t, where N1,N2 are sets of measure zero. It is shown that such operators map weighted L–spaces into certain weighted spaces of smooth functions, where the degree of smoothness is the higher the smoother the kernel k(x, t) as a function in x is. The spaces of smooth function are generalizations of the Ditzian-Totik spaces which are defined in terms of the errors of best weighted uniform approximation by algebraic polynomials.
