Polysaccharides have been isolated from the epigeal and hypogeal organs ofAcanthophyllum pungens and their qualitative presence and quantitative compositions have been determined. Methanolic extraction ofDicentra spectabilis L., collected in the flowering period in the botanical garden of Pyatigorsk Pharmaceutical Institute, has yielded 0.17% of combined alkaloids from the epigeal part and 0.25% from the roots. By the separation of these materials, dihydrosanguinarine, sanguinarine, scoulerine, cheilanthifoline, corydine, and protopine have been obtained.Dicentra peregrina Rudolph, collected in the flowering period on the island of Sakhalin, has yielded 1.8% of combined alkaloids from the epigeal part and 1.51% from the roots. Summary The combined alkaloids of the epigeal part and roots ofDelphinium biternatum have been investigated. From the epigeal part, in addition to the iliensine detected previously, acomonine, browniine, dehydrobrowniine, delphatine, anthranoyllycoctonine, and three new bases for which the structures of 10-dehydroiliensine, 10-benzoyliliensine, and 10-benzoylbrowniine have been established, have been isolated.From the roots have been isolated browniine, delphatine, and a new base, delbiterine. A study has been made of the phenolic compounds ofGeranium sanguineum. One tannin of the hydrolyzable series has been isolated from the epigeal part, and for this the structure of 1,3-bis-O-digalloyl-2-O-galloyl-4,6-(hexahydroxydiphenoyl)--D-glucose is proposed. The total flavonoids have been isolated from the epigeal part ofThermopsis alterniflora andTh. dolichocarpa, and the roots and rhizomes ofVexibia alopecuroides, andRhaponticum carthamoides the compositions of the flavonoids present in each of the total extracts have been determined. It was found that the total flavonoid extracts investigated exhibited different degrees of hypolipidemic activity in relation to normal animals and animals with experimental hyperlipidemias. Summary The amounts of water-soluble polysaccharides in various organs ofPolygonatum sewerzowii in different vegetation periods have been determined and their polysaccharide compositions have been established.The maximum amount of water-soluble polysaccharides is present in the leaves and stems in the fruit-bearing period, in the roots at the time of budding, and in the rhizomes at the time of flowering. The quantitatively predominating component in the polysaccharides of the stems is galactose, and in the leaves, roots, and rhizomes, mannose. The roots ofDelphinium tamarae Kem. Nath., collected in the period of the withering of the epigeal part of the environs of the village Bakuriani (Georgian SSR) have yielded 2.02% of combined alkaloids. When the combined material was separated, methyllycaconitine, lycoctonine, and anthranoyllycoctonine were isolated, together with a new base having mp 286°C which has been called norsongoramine. Water-soluble polysaccharides and pectin substances have been isolated from various organs ofA. neglectus and their quantitative amounts and monosacchardie compositions have been determined. Native acetylated glucomannans (A, B, and C) containing 13, 15, and 20% of acetyl groups and being homogeneous according to the results of gel chromatography have been isolated from the roots. Summary 1. In a study of the carbohydrates ofEremurus regeli Vved., according to the period of development of the plant, it has been found that in the leaves the maximum amount of pectin substances is present in the period of the ripening of the seeds. In the tuber roots, water-soluble polysaccharides form the main component and they are present in maximum amount after the withering of the epigeal part.2.
